Chapter 590

"Do you think Lucien found Helion?" Nera asked as Elain walked purposefully down the hallway. "It's been a while."

"Hmm…" Elain reached gently for the bond. Not hard enough to tug or alert her mate to the fact that she was feeling him out, but enough to get a general sense of him. Frustration and impatience reached her and she shook her head. "I don't think he has yet."

"What do we do, then?" The other female asked, "Do we find him ourselves?"

Thinking about it, Elain bit her lip. Was it worth heading into the city to look for Helion when Lucien had done just that. Would they even have better luck than her mate had? What if they just ran around aimlessly wasting time when Lucien had then found Helion and was now looking for her? Elain ran her hands over her face and groaned. "I don't know." She paused when her ears began to ring and she held her breath when her vision shifted.

Looking at herself standing in the hallway, Elain blinked. She was looking at herself standing beside Nera like she had been for the past several minutes, and it took her a moment to figure out that she must be seeing herself through someone else's eyes. Watching as Nera reached out, touching a hand to her shoulder, Elain's vision moved as if she were walking closer. She could not hear what her friend was saying, but she could see the concern on Nera's face. A moment later she appeared to be moving away and Elain looked down at herself. Her hands, now clearly male, startled her a little, and she glanced at the rest of herself. Guard's uniform, she noted, before a wall blocked her view of Nera and herself in the hallway.

"Ugh…" Elain blinked, coming back to herself. She looked at her hands, relieved that they were her own once again. "Weird…"

"What just happened?" Nera sounded a little panicked, and Elain turned her way.

"Just a little vision." She replied, and Nera's eyes widened.

"Oh, I did know you are a Seer." There was a little awe in her voice now. Elain turned her attention back up the hallway in the direction from which she had seen them in her vision.

"Yes…" Quickly she hurried that way, as quietly as she was able to avoid giving any notice to whoever was there. She did not expect to come face to face with Kaii, and she was rather pleased to note the utter shock on his face. Evidently, he had not expected to be found. Elain smiled winningly at him. "Hello…"

"Lady…" He inclined his head, bowing at the waist slightly as Etiquette required he greet her as the mate of the heir to the Court. Elain smiled more widely.

"Are you following us?" She knew that he was.

Kaii straightened, his eyes wide, and he glanced around them. Elain watched the male looking everywhere but at her. "Uh…" he did not wish to lie, she could see that. "Yes, Lady."

"Hmm…" Elain tilted her head, pretending to mull the situation over. She could guess why one of her mate's favourite guards would be keeping an eye on her. "And Siv?" She asked, "Is he nearby also?"

"Indeed, Lady."

"What is it that you are hoping to see?"

"Nothing, to be honest." Kaii told her, "We're here just in case." He gave her a charming smile, looking a little more relaxed when he apparently decided that she wasn't going to be angry with him. "Ideally, there would be nothing to see and nothing to do…"

"Other than watch Nera and I."

"Exactly." Kaii grinned for a moment and then the grin faded as he looked a little more closely at her, "…which you are less than pleased about…?"

"It depends." Elain began, thinking quickly. If Lucien had not yet found Helion in the library as he had suspected he would, then it stood to reason that the High Lord might not be doing what her mate had thought he might be. "Are you aware of places in the city the High Lord frequents?"
