Chapter 594
Lifting a hand to shield his eyes from the afternoon sun, Lucien let out a sigh as he and Tisia stepped back out onto the street. They had checked three libraries together looking for the High Lord, but had not found any evidence that he had even been there.
"Wasn't he meant to be with Queen Vassa?" Tisia asked, frowning as they surveyed the street. "Where else would he have gone with her?"
"I don't know." Lucien replied, "He told me he was meant to work with her this afternoon, but he didn't say when or where." Honestly, he didn't know if his father had even met Vassa yet or not. Perhaps things had not gone to plan, and he was now wasting his time looking for them out here.
"Maybe they finished their research and got something to eat." Tisia suggested, now also shading her own eyes from the sun. "It has been a long time since breakfast, and if they were not in the Palace for lunch they might not have eaten since this morning."
"I've not been to the city with him for food." Lucien told her, glancing up and down the street for nice looking reputable establishments that a High Lord might favour. "I do not know where he would have gone for that." Surely, it would have been somewhere that he could show off his Court to Vassa as a visitor from elsewhere. She, no doubt, would have enjoyed an experience like that. She did like the finer things, even living as she had been for a while now.
"I think it depends on his mood." Tisia replied, "He frequents many different places from time to time."
"I had assumed as much." Lucien said, as they began up the street together. "I don't' think any of the other High Lords spend as much time as he does out among the citizens of their Courts."
"Do they not?"
"No. Most stay close to their palaces, really."
"I had not realised that."
"Have you not seen the other Courts?"
"Once," she said softly, "when I was a youngling, I went with my mother to the Dawn Court."
"What did you think of it?"
"It was nice." Tisia shrugged, "Not so different from the Day Court, really."
"Yes," Lucien smiled at her, "You should visit the Winter Court."
"Nesta is planning to." Tisia said, "Perhaps I might go when she does."
"It sounds like it's going to be a whole expedition." Lucien chuckled.
"Perhaps it can be." The dark-haired female mused, "When everything is back to normal and it all settles down."
"I feel like much of the dramatics lately have been due to me." He gave her an apologetic smile this time. "I'm sure you didn't have to deal with all these disruptions before Elain and I arrived."
"The attempted Coup of the High Lord's Throne had nothing to do with you." Tisia shrugged, "They had been making those plans for a long time. Long enough to send spies into the Court…"
"Hmm." Lucien knew that being named Heir had been a catalyst for all of that coming to a head, but he let it pass.
"Besides, the High Lord having a son and heir is worth it. Elain, too. I think she will be good for the Court."
"I think she will, too." Lucien murmured, before gently reaching for the bond. He had thought Vassa would be with Helion, wherever he was, but now he began to wonder what it would mean if she were not. He had somewhat been hoping that he would find his father alone and be free to speak with him, but now he began to wonder where Vassa would be on her own if she was not under the watchful eyes of the High Lord. He knew that he had left Elain protected with Kaii and Siv, but if Vassa had been studying magic enough to threaten him with some binding spell, what else would she know? Would Elain be safe?
