Well the issue of the duel is solved, however another problem I've noticed is that Naofumi has absolutely no power-up methods. In the Canon he has Trust, which made him stronger based on people trusting him, having Raphtalia made him stronger but he doesn't have Raphtalia now.
BOOM
Naofumi was teleported to the outskirts of a village in a flash of light.
Naofumi looked up, the sky tore into several green vortexes, the sky turned a chaotic blood red with bits of violet. Monsters began to poor out make their way towards the village.
'So kill the monsters and save the villagers, simple.'
Naofumi ran at the village, shooting down what monsters he could.
He began to cut down any monsters that got too close and shoot down those he saw. He even slashed at a bee before kicking it at the direction of a whole swarm, basically creating a bomb that killed the swarm.
"Urrggghhh..." Naofumi turned around to see a zombie before he blocked it's sword strike with his [NI - 19 Kagatsuchi shield, it may of been a gun shield but it was still a shield.
Naofumi proceeded to butcher the zombie within a second.
The undead revealed themselves after that, but merely died by blade, bullet or explosive blast.
"AAAAHHHH!!" a women screamed, Naofumi decapitated a zombie before running towards the voice.
He turned a corner to see a bunch of villagers being attacked.
'I don't get it, why aren't they evacuated, I saw knights on the way here! WHERE ARE THEY GODDAMMIT!!?' Naofumi thought in fury at the absurdity of the situation.
Naofumi began to spin rapidly, before leaping forward, cutting down the monsters one by one before reaching the people.
"[Rolling barrier]!" the skill activated. A green glowing barrier appeared around them, stopping the monsters. The barrier began to spin, not allowing the monsters to get a grip and constantly slipping off.
Naofumi turned to the people. "This things not gonna last forever, I'll try to clear a path, just keep close to me!" he demanded.
The villagers nodded vigorously.
The barrier broke down and Naofumi cut down the monsters that got too close.
"MOVE NOW!!" he yelled.
Naofumi began to spam his firebullets, running and making his way towards the local mine, that's where the people had evacuated to.
As Naofumi and the villagers made their way to the mine, Naofumi could see a man, a farmer, being attacked by a locust and a zombie.
He pulled out a new item from his inventory. It was a buckler shield, but it was triangle shaped and featured a front blade, several spikes and the handle was also vertical.
Naofumi threw it towards the zombie. The moment the blade pierced through the zombies armor, the shield let out a powerful explosion.
The brand new Blast Bucklers were a strong weapon he had recently cooked up. When then impacted or pierced a target, they would explode. They could even return to him after being thrown, which it did when it floated to and attached to his side.
"GET OVER HERE!!" Naofumi roared to the saved farmer.
The man quickly joined the other people. Unbelievably he was able to push away the bees and locusts effectively just using a hoe.
'That's one less person to worry about.'
Naofumi looked towards the mine. 'THAT LOOKS LIKE A 100 METERS AWAY!! THIS IS A LITERAL SHITSTORM!!'
Naofumi began to power through a 100 meter long horde of monsters. The amount of demons seemed to just get denser as time went on.
When the distance had shortened to 85 meters, Naofumi looked as he could sense something amiss. Several huge fireballs appeared on the sky, over the poor people.
'HOLY SHIT!'
"[ROLLING BARRIER]!" the spinning barrier appeared above the villagers as Naofumi equipped the [Enchanted lightmetal alloy shield]. A property of [Rolling barrier] was that it mimicked the defense rating of the current shield equipped.
The barrier blocked the fireballs with little effort. The villagers being protected. The SP cost from the covering so many people was high though.
Naofumi turned towards the sound of metallic steps. A group of knights approached, arrogant looks on their faces.
"Looks like the shield hero is tougher than expected, or maybe it's the strange armor-" the commanderwas cut off by one of Naofumi bucklers flying towards his chest.
This one type of buckler wasn't explosive, however, it was incredibly sharp and would carve through opponents. The obsidian bucklers were to the blast bucklers what a sniper is to a shotgun.
A soldier moved their sword in the way of the incoming blade, only to have cut right through it. Luckily, it through the mini shield off course to pierce right through a nearby building.
"You literally tried to kill me and everyone around, GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON I SHOULDN'T CHOP YOUR HEAD IN THE NAME OF SELF DEFENSE!!?"
"A criminal like you has no right to talk of the law! You even assaulted me!" the captain yelled incredulously, raising his sword.
Naofumi growled glaring through his visor at captain. Yet he ultimately just crossed his arms and stared, as if waiting. The knights looked confused until they realized why he was like that.
The captain heard heavy stomping as well as the ground rumbling. He turned around to see a huge juggernaut zombie, axe ready to chop the piece of trash in half.
The captain screamed and raised his sword as the beast let its axe drop.
CLANG
Surprisingly, the captain held strong, dropping to his knee but otherwise stopping the swing with his sword.
Naofumi rolled his eyes. He shot a few fire bullets at the juggernaut, putting holes in it and making it back pedal.
He jumped into the air and began to spin and brought down his blades upon juggernaut. He landed on his feet easily.
The juggernaut didn't move, but then suddenly multiple explosions activated. The huge zombie was blown to pieces, zombie bits flying everywhere.
"Either you guys stop being bitches and actually fight the wave or just fuck off so I can work and you can do some arson somewhere else!"
"As if we'll do what you say!"
"LEAVE OR FIGHT DAMN IT!!" Naofumi roared, killing a dozen bees and locusts in just 3 seconds.
Naofumi has been training, doing everything from push - ups and squats to jumping jacks and jogs. He's been doing this ever since he discovered the [Compound crossbow shield]. His training has been mostly focusing on Stamina, strength and agility. He has grown flexible, strong and fast.
Naofumi looked at his radar, several more undead juggernauts were in his sight.
Naofumi turned to one which was behind a building.
He decided to use a secret feature of his armor. He points his arm at a building, a cable shot out and attached itself to the building. Using his strength and retraction of the cable, Naofumi flew high into the sky before swinging downwards, in one swift motion he cut the juggernaut in half.
Naofumi then threw three blast bucklers at another juggernaut, impaling it multiple times, then blowing it to pieces.
Naofumi was stacking bodies like a god-damn war veteran, but sadly he wasn't getting experience because he was so close to those damn idiots.
With 2 left, Naofumi easily obliterated them with his 2 new weapons. What those weapons were was unknown as the shield hero busted them out and put them away at lightning speed.
Naofumi then spent the next couple minutes killing the leftover monsters as the villagers went to safety. Strangely, and fortunately, he found some knights fighting the monsters too.
"GGGRRRRR..."
Naofumi turned to his side to look at the source of the horrific growl.
What he looked at was what looked like a Sibirian tiger with golden fur and red eyes, 2 pairs of bat wings on its back, a scorpion tail and horns on its head.
"Are you a mini boss?" Naofumi asked, barely intimidated by the ferocious looking beast.
It let out a roar before charging at him. Naofumi blocked the charge with ease.
He kicked the beast away before slashing it. It countered by using it's own claws.
It then began to furiously strike with its scorpion tail, all of it's attempts being blocked.
Then struck out with its claws while Naofumi was distracted, hitting him right in the gut.
CLANG
Naofumi flew back but landed on his feet. He threw a blade buckler at it, striking it front leg and making it growl.
It's wings flapped as it flew into the air. It loomed over him with its crimson eyes glaring down at him. It then dived bombed him with it's claws, Naofumi easily blocked and deflected the strikes.
Naofumi then shot through it's wings, tearing them and letting the beast fall to the ground.
It picked itself off the ground before looking towards and roaring at Naofumi.
Naofumi threw multiple Blast Bucklers at the beast's feet.
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
They detonated but the tiger jumped away before it could be seriously burned, but received strong burns. Naofumi then began to throw all of his throwing weapons, when one was thrown there would be another to take it's place until the first returned.
But sadly this damn thing was fast as hell!
"FUCK IT!"
Naofumi raised his arm. A metal cable shot of his arm, the spiked end stabbed and attached to a building. Using his own strength and the cable retraction, Naofumi launched forward.
As he flew at incredible speed he slashed at the tiger, cutting the beast. However there was no explosion.
He landed on the wall, it almost caved in from the impact. Using the hydraulics on his boots, Naofumi launched off the wall and punched the tiger on his way.
He landed on the ground. He shot his grappling hook at the ground between him and the mini-boss.
He launched himself upwards via his boots, because of hook on the ground, he flew in arc before slamming his blades into the monster's back. It roared in pain, and did so again when the explosion went off.
The beast was now bleeding, damaged, burned and haggered. It ran away, hoping continue the fight another day, or trying to run away from the mass monster killer.
Naofumi would not allow that.
"TRICK SHOT TIME!!"
As the beast ran past a lamp post, Naofumi shot his grappling hook at a spot in front of the monster.
Using his pure strength, the leg hydraulics and [Mad charge]; Naofumi shot himself like a bullet to the side.
The cable hooked on to the post, he flew in another arc, rapidly approaching the running tiger. He sliced the tiger's head off in one swift motion.
Naofumi stopped his momentum with his feet and retracted his grappling hook, breathing a sigh of relief as he sat on a bench.
After a minute or so the sky began to return to normal. The wave was over.
Naofumi walked over to the dead animals body and absorbed it into his shield. 'I'll butcher it later.'
