There was a medical room. Owen's relief clear as he went over things and saw that although not top of the line, they were operational.
"Right. First thing's first. Get up there!" Owen pointed to the table, turning to face Ianto "Come on. You know I am talking to you. You are missing two months of scans now. And medications… come on. Then a deliberate Overdose of same said shit to protect Tosh. You spewed most of it back up back there… not long enough to do much except swim around in the blood stream. Don't fuck with me… get up. Let's see what is happening."
"No, Tosh is more important, that little bean. Come on Owen, we both know this is not going to alter anything… why find out? I don't want to piss into the wind just yet" Ianto said gently, as he patted his friend's shoulder "Come on. We all want to see that baby"
Owen nodded as he knew Ianto was right.
There was nothing he could do anyway, why go through the motions if it just caused upset?
.
.
"So… I can't believe it" Toshiko said as she lay there watching the screen "Look at her. She's perfect!"
"She's big." Ianto agreed sagely, glancing at Owen who was clearly thinking the same thing, his eyes moving over the image hungrily.
"Looks… well I know it sounds stupid as we all know this little spark if two months along but… it looks more like three… three and a half?" Owen frowned.
"That's what I was thinking too" Toshiko admitted "It's a big baby."
Ianto reached out to trace the screen image with a finger "Well… maybe this is part of it? Whatever was used to ensure the pregnancy also quickened it? Like… advanced growth or something?"
Owen had stepped closer to the screen, as had Ianto's Aunty Francine. The mother of Martha and Tish. She was a OBGYN ya know… right? How about that? She also agreed that the growth was accelerated somehow but added "It's a lovely healthy looking little baby. I see nothing to indicate that she is in anyway altered from this."
"Wicked" Ianto said as he tried to lighten the mood "If this is right, I calculate… this baby will be born … ah… in four months? There abouts?"
"Yeah… looks like a solid calculation" Toshiko agreed once her shock had worn off. "She's healthy, right?"
"Prefect love" Owen assured her.
.
.
"So this is everything?"
"Yes Ianto, this is everything I downloaded from their servers before we left. It would have set off alarms all over the place and they would have known someone was creeping about but I was sure to over my tracks. They have no idea what we have, or what we left behind." Toshiko assured him "My Trojan Horse Program is still working."
"So anything internally posted with 'babies' in the title is being gleaned into this folder?"
"Yes and I am reading everything, then passing it on you all of you. Nothing so far helps, but it is comforting to know that the other mothers are about the same as me" she agreed.
Ianto sat back and considered, his fingers drumming on the desktop as he stared at the other screen fill of folders, then he reached out to tap one "What's this?"
"Unrelated. That is from the first dump off their main servers. That what I took from, what's left is the overflow. Things that have no bearing on us. Logistical confirmations, budgets. Weird stuff like that. I trimmed the fat there so I didn't spend too much time focusing on things that did not help us."
"Good idea" Ianto nodded with a gentle pat on her knee "We seem to have this feeling of impending doom, you and I. We need to focus on what we can, and let go of what is not relevant or helpful."
"Exactly. We are always in sync, you and me."
"I know… freaks right?"
With a giggle she turned back to her screen and Ianto turned to his. Maybe he would simply print out all this crap for a rainy day read.
Right?
.
.
"There you both are, hungry?"
"Yes Aunty" Ianto flopped into a chair as Francine clucked around Toshiko a bit, then settled to watch plate of cookies disappear. She knew Ianto could not resist peanut brownies.
"So. While the others were tending to the animals, working in the gardens so we would have fresh vegetables tonight with our meal and some of us worked to help prepare said meal… what were you two doing? Every day you lock yourselves in that room with all that electronic equipment to pour over words on a screen. Does that help us? Does that make a difference? Do you not think a little sunshine would be good for that baby too?"
Ianto was used to her ranting when annoyed so he ignored her completely but Toshiko did not, her anger flaring "I know you care and want the best but I am a grown woman, about to be a mother. Please do not think I need a mother to tell me what to do, my mother is dead."
Francine was surprised and leaned back, before admitting "I am sorry, I guess I was sort of scolding you. Just… can you limit your time in there at least? Your men miss you and really... is it changing anything?"
"Aunty Fran is right" Ianto admitted as he sat back and joined the conversation "we have all the time in the world to find answers… or more than likely not find the ones we need. For all we know the important shit was never passed that way. Might have been hard copy Eyes Only kinda shit."
"Watch your language young man, there will be a baby here soon enough" Francine scolded.
"Aunty… you HAVE met Owen right? Shit is not far off likely being the first world she speaks anyway" Ianto admonished gently.
With soft laughter they agreed.
This little girl would be a spitfire.
