Chapter 2: White Lotus Trainee

Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Wow I'm impressed with how much everyone likes that it inspired me to get to writing on this. Now many of you were wondering what kind of bender Koji is and what half of Vaatu inside him means. Well, let's just say after this chapter you'll be surprised. Please Review and Enjoy.

It had been 4 years since the Red Lotus attack and since Koji had been adopted by Kya and since then so much has happened.

Running alongside the glaciers was an 8-year-old Koji. His black hair had grown a little and he was wearing blue water tribe clothes.

At the end of the glacier, Koji looks up to see a White Lotus flag at the top of it.

Koji runs up to it and tries to climb it but slips on the ice landing back down.

"Hmm." Koji pauses to think as he looks to the top before getting an idea. Jumping back Koji fires a blast of fire at the base of the glacier knocking the flag down and into his hands. "Yes!" Koji pumps his fist.

At the White Lotus training compound, Kya was sitting on the stairs watching Katara train Korra in Waterbending.

"Alright Korra, remember waterbending is not only used for attacking but also healing." Katara said as she bent water into her hands and they glowed.

Korra moved her hands mimicking her. "How do I know if it works?" Korra asks.

Katara looks up to see Koji running in with the flag before he tripped on the ice and fell. "I think we just had our first test."

"Ugh ice can be such a pain sometimes." Koji groans picking himself up and using the flag as a walking stick before walking back.

"I keep telling you not to run so fast on ice." Kya smiles walking over.

"I know mom I know. I just keep forgetting." Koji said as she helped over. "Hello Korra, grandma."

"Hello Koji." Katara smiles.

"Check it out. I got it. That means I'm in. I'm gonna be a White Lotus." Koji said gesturing to the flag before wincing in pain.

"Hold on Mr. Future White Lotus, get over here." Katara said as she sat Koji down. "Korra why don't you try using what I just taught you."

Korra walks over and bends the water before healing Koji's twisted ankle causing him to wince in pain before sighing in relief. "Wow that's amazing."

"It's not like firebending that's for sure." Kya said.

"Yeah but when Korra has to learn firebending that gives an excuse to beat her." Koji smirks looking at her.

"Oh please Koji I can kick your butt up and down this whole compound." Korra smirks.

"Is that a challenge?" Koji asks.

"Easy you two." Kya said as she and Katara stopped them.

"No fighting…yet." Katara smirks when a White Lotus member walks over.

"Well Koji I see you got the flag." He said.

"Yep, does this mean I can train with you guys?" Koji asks.

"Not yet. Right now you're only a White Lotus Trainee. In order to be considered to be a member you must assist you need the recommendation from one more person." He said.

"But my mom and grandma are training the Avatar who else do I need to convince you guys?" Koji asks.

"If I may, I think I know who can help you Koji." Katara smirks.

A few days later Koji was riding on a sky bison with Tenzin to Republic City.

"This is gonna be fun Koji. We'll meditate for hours at Air Temple Island, you'll come with me to meetings and you can help babysit Jinora she just turned 3. We're gonna have lots of fun together." Tenzin smiles.

"Yeah…sounds great." Koji cringes. 'How did I get myself into this?'

Flashback:

"Republic City?!" Koji gasps standing with the White Lotus, Kya and Tenzin.

"Yes, if you want to be a member of the White Lotus you need Tenzin's recommendations as well." The White Lotus member said.

"But since I'm very busy in Republic City, you'll have to stay with me until I believe you have what it takes." Tenzin said.

"What exactly would I be doing?" Koji asks.

"I will be teaching you the spiritual side to bending and have you learn to focus and understand your abilities." Tenzin said.

Koji looks to Kya asking approval but she smiles at him.

"Go ahead." Kya nods.

Grabbing his bag, Koji walks out to see Korra waiting for him.

"I can't believe you get to leave while I'm stuck here all by myself." Korra said.

"Don't let Naga hear you say that." Koji said causing her to smirk.

"Fair enough." Korra chuckles before putting her hand on his shoulder. "But what am I supposed to do while my best friend is out in the city having fun?"

"Well you could practice your moves so when I get back I don't beat you like last time." Koji smirks.

"You did not beat me I slipped on some ice." Korra said.

"Still counts." Koji said as Korra punches his shoulder.

"Just for that you have to bring me and Naga back a souvenir." Korra said.

"You drive a hard bargain Avatar, but you got a deal." Koji said.

"Get back soon okay?" Korra asks walking.

"You got it." Koji smiles happily.

Flashback End:

Koji's happy smile had changed to a bored expression as he was standing with Tenzin at the Council Meeting.

"So reports of the Triad groups have spread throughout the city and the Police are struggling to find a way to stop them." Tenzin said.

"Yes but the Agni Kais, Triple Threat, Red Monsoon and Terra Triads seem to be one step ahead of the law. They're somehow avoiding capture." A woman in fire nation clothes said.

"Can't we issue more metalbenders to help put a stop to this?" A man in earth kingdom clothes asks as Koji lets out yawn which a man with brown hair and water tribe clothes noticed and chuckles. This was Tarrlok.

"You find something amusing about all this Tarrlok?" Tenzin raises an eyebrow.

"Not at all, but I think all our talk is putting your assistant to sleep." Tarrlok points as everyone looks to Koji who immediately stood up straight.

"Koji behave yourself. Please forgive me nephew he's new to the city." Tenzin said.

"Sorry." Koji said rubbing the back of his head embarrassed.

"It's quite alright. Sometimes I get bored at these meetings too." Tarrlok said.

"It's not that I'm not interested it's just I don't really know what you all are talking about." Koji admits.

"Well Koji you see there are some benders in this city who are attacking nonbenders and we're trying to put a stop them." Tarrlok said.

"Unfortunately, it's proving to be quite difficult." Tenzin said.

When the meeting ended, Koji and Tenzin were walking down the hall as Tenzin was looking at his schedule.

"Alright Koji just one more thing to do and we can head home." Tenzin said.

"Is it another meeting?" Koji cringed.

"Not a big one. I'm meeting with the family of Hiroshi Sato." Tenzin said surprising him.

"Wait the guy who invented the Satomobile?" Koji asks.

"Yes, he's asked me to stop by his mansion. He's trying to get a new warehouse built and he needs the council stamp of approval first." Tenzin said as they headed over to the estate but little did they know some other people had the same idea.

At the Sato estate, Koji looked at the huge mansion in awe as Tenzin knocked on the door to reveal the Butler.

"Ah Councilman Tenzin, we've been expecting you." Butler said letting them in. "Mr. Sato is with his family in the main room."

Walking to the main room, Koji and Tenzin look to see Hiroshi Sato posing for a picture with his wife Yasuko and their daughter Asami.

"Alright and…perfect." The Photographer said snapping the photo.

"Sorry if we're interrupting." Tenzin said as they walked over.

"Tenzin, so glad you could make it." Hiroshi said when he noticed Koji. "And who is this young man?"

"This is my nephew Koji. He's staying with me for a little bit." Tenzin said.

"Well I don't see any reason to drag him along with us. Perhaps he can stay down here with my family?" Hiroshi suggests.

"I suppose." Tenzin said.

"Asami." Hiroshi said as the young girl walked over. "Would mind keeping this young boy company?"

"Sure. Nice to meet you." Asami said holding out her hand.

"Koji."

"Asami." Both of them shook hands as Yasuko led them away.

"We'll leave you boys to your business." Yasuko said.

"Love you sweetie." Hiroshi said kissing her on the lips before leading Tenzin to his office.

Little did any of them realize 5 shadowy figures had climbed the fence to the mansion and made their way to it.

"You search the rest of the place for the family while we go have a talk with Mr. Sato." The leader said as one of them nodded before splitting up.

Walking around the house, Asami and Yasuko led Koji to their indoor pool.

"Wow, you guys are really rich." Koji said.

"Yes although sometimes it can be a pain when you wake up late for a drink of water." Yasuko giggles.

"Where are you from Koji?" Asami asks.

"The South Pole. We don't have anything like this, but love it there." Koji said.

"Nothing wrong with that at all." Yasuko said when they heard footsteps. "You can't be done already, Hiroshi?" Yasuko turns around and gasps.

Turning around Asami and Koji looked to see an Agni Kai Triad member walking towards them.

"Hello Mrs. Sato, would you and your little girl like to come with me for a ride? The Agni Kais would love to have a word with you." He asks.

"Mom?" Asami asks as her mother pulled her close.

Koji looks at the Agni Kai and remembered in the meeting he was at Tenzin said the names of these triads and Agni Kai was one of them.

"Y-You're a triad." Koji realized.

"That's right little boy, so what do you say we make this easier for everyone?" He asks when Koji fires a blast of fire at his feet causing the man to fall backwards into the pool.

"RUN!" Yasuko said grabbing Asami and Koji before running for her life.

Growling the Agni Kai pulls himself out of the water and chases after them.

In Hiroshi's office, Tenzin was reviewing the plans.

"What do you think?" Hiroshi asks.

"Well Hiroshi I am not seeing anything wrong with these plans. I'm sure this new warehouse will generate much more jobs for the people." Tenzin said handing him back the plans.

"I hope so." Hiroshi smiles putting the plans away when they heard a knock at the door.

"Uh Mr. Sato." The butler said as the other side of the door.

"Come in." Hiroshi said when they saw the 4 Agni Kais holding the Butler hostage as they entered the office.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Hiroshi asks standing up.

"Don't worry Mr. Sato we're not asking for much just a simple donation." The leader said.

"Don't do it Mr. Sato!" The Butler said.

"Hiroshi don't lower yourself to these people." Tenzin said.

"I'd be careful what you do or else your wife and daughter might pay the price." The leader said causing Hiroshi's eyes to widen.

"You wouldn't." Tenzin glares.

"Alright Mr. Sato we'll make this quick. Don't try anything funny." The Agni Kai said.

"I wouldn't dream of it." Hiroshi said pressing a button under his desk setting off an alarm.

Using this opening the Butler eblows his capture and breaks free.

"Hiroshi duck!" Tenzin said firing a large blast of air knocking the four Agni Kais into the wall.

"Call the police!" Hiroshi orders as the Butler ran to the phone. "We have to find my family!"

"We will." Tenzin said as they ran out.

Running down the halls of the mansion, Yasuko, Koji and Asami were running for their lives as the Agni Kai member chased after them.

"This way!" Yasuko grabs the kids and takes them out back just as a fireball flew past them.

"You guys have a racetrack?!" Koji asks as they ran down the back hill to it.

"Is now really the time to ask?!" Asami asks.

"We just have to get to one of the Satomobiles and we can get away!" Yasuko said when the Agni Kai member burst out of the windows with a stream of fire and lands in front of them.

"Going somewhere?" He smirks.

Koji steps forward and flames appeared in his hands as he took a fighting stance. "You want them you'll have to go through me."

"That can be arranged." The Agni Kai said launching a fireball at Koji who deflects before attacking.

Sweeping his legs Koji made a whip forcing the Agni Kai to jump. Using this opening Koji leaps forward and kicks the older man in the gut knocking him onto his back.

Koji charges forward and flames surround his feet as he delivers an axe kick down on the man causing to gasp in pain, but before Koji could pull back the Agni Kai grabbed his leg.

"I have come too far to be stopped by a little boy!" He roars slamming Koji into the ground before punching him in the face repeatedly.

"Koji!" Yasuko gasps.

Asami froze, this kid who she had just barely met was risking his life to save her. Tightening her fist Asami did the only thing she could think of.

"Let him go!" Asami yells as she tackles the Agni Kai knocking the three of the down the hill.

"Asami!" Yasuko gasps as she ran after them.

Landing at the bottom Asami and Koji groan in pain as the Agni Kai stood and glared the two children down.

"You are gonna pay for that." He growls as flames appeared in his hand as he lunged forward ready to take their lives.

"NOOO!" Yasuko screams as she pushes the children out of the way and takes the attack herself.

"MOM!" Asami screams as her mother fell to the ground with a massive wound on her chest.

Koji's eyes widen as Asami ran to her mother sobbing her eyes.

"What was a waste." The Agni Kai said getting Koji's attention. "All she had to do was listen to me and now she threw her life away."

"Shut up." Koji growls standing up.

"Huh?" The Agni Kai looks to Koji who turned to him with glowing red eyes.

"I said SHUT UP!" Koji roars as a ring or air shot out blasting the Agni Kai onto the track.

"What?" The Agni Kai looks to see Koji walking towards him. In one hand a powerful flame and in the other hand was a sphere of air. "B-But that's impossible! You can't do that!"

"I just did." Koji said with a dark tone to his voice that shook the Agni Kai to the core.

Firing a blast of fire and air the two attacks slam into the Agni Kai backwards.

Getting back up he fired streams of fire at Koji who makes a sphere of air blocking the attacks.

"This is for Mrs. Sato!" Koji roars as a powerful blast of fire and air sent him smashing into the stands.

Koji panted heavily as he looked down at the unconscious man.

"Take his life. You know you want to." A dark voice inside of Koji said.

"N-No it's not right." Koji said.

"He attacked you, raided this home and struck that woman down. He would end all your lives in a second so why should you hesitate to end his?" The voice asks.

Koji was about to attack when he suddenly heard sobbing snapping him out of it. As his eyes returned to normal, he saw Asami crying as she hugged her mother.

Realizing what was going on Koji ran back to them and saw Yasuko was bleeding.

Koji walks over to and helps Asami off before moving to her mother.

"Mrs. Sato hang in there." Koji said ripping off part of his shirt to stop the bleeding. "Alright you're gonna be okay. Help will be here soon."

"K-Koji." Yasuko coughs getting his attention. "The Agni Kai? Asami?"

"It's okay I stopped him before he could hurt her. Your daughter is safe." Koji assured.

"Thank you." Yasuko smiles.

"I'm so sorry. If I was stronger, I could have stopped him and you wouldn't have had to throw yourself in front of me." Koji said as tears ran down his eyes. "I'll never be a White Lotus."

"Yes you will." Yasuko said cupping his cheek. "You're a kind boy and you want to help the world. You protected the most precious thing in the world to me. I wish more benders were like you."

"Don't talk like that. You have a daughter! Asami need you!" Koji said.

"She'll be much safer…with you." Yasuko said as her hand dropped and she closed her eyes.

"No…No! NO!" Koji said trying to shake her awake but Yasuko Sato laid dead in front of him and Asami.

"MOM!" Asami screams as Hiroshi and Tenzin ran out with the Police to see the situation.

"No." Hiroshi said hurt beyond words before tightening his fist in rage.

A few days later, at Yasuko's funeral many had come to mourn.

As Koji walked around, he saw Asami sitting on a porch swing outside.

"You wanna be alone?" Koji asks as Asami shook her head. "I'm really sorry."

"I miss her so much." Asami sniffles.

"Your mom was amazing. She saved our lives." Koji said.

"So what?!" Asami snaps. "My mom is dead! Everyone says she's in my heart but I don't want her in my heart! I want her here!"

Bursting into tears Asami covers her face. Moving over Koji wraps his arms around her and hugs her close. "Let it all out. It's okay."

Hugging him back Asami cries into his shoulder. "Koji I'm scared." She admits.

"Me too, maybe we can be scared together." Koji said getting her attention. "This is a cruel and dangerous world, maybe having someone by your side can help."

"Will you?" Asami asks.

"Absolutely." Koji nods.

From his office Hiroshi looked at them through the window. "Benders…I hate them." Hiroshi declared.

At Air Temple Island, Koji arrived back to see Tenzin and his wife Pemma waiting for him.

"How is Hiroshi's family?" Tenzin asks.

"Mr. Sato was too busy to talk but Asami will get better." Koji said.

"I'm sorry you had to deal with that and at such a young age." Tenzin said.

"Uncle Tenzin, during that fight I wanted to. I wanted to take that man's life so badly." Koji admits.

"But you didn't?" Tenzin asks.

"No. I just couldn't." Koji admits.

"Anyone can take a life, but it takes something to spare one." Tenzin said.

"Thanks…uh I'm gonna go for a little walk." Koji said.

"Of course." Tenzin said as Koji walked away.

"What do you think Tenzin?" Pemma asks.

"I think he's gonna make an amazing White Lotus someday." Tenzin smiles softly.

As Koji walked up the air temple training ground, he opened his hands and some air appeared along with his firebending.

"How is this possible? Only the Avatar can bend more than one element." Koji asks when he remembered the dark voice. "Who was that?"
