Chapter 3: Republic City

Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Wow over 50 followers and only two chapters. I know you all have many questions but yes at some point Koji will learn Combustion bending. I hope you like what I have planned next. Please Review and Enjoy.

9 Years had gone by since Koji's first visit to Republic City and since then Korra had come a long way in her Avatar training.

Koji had come a long way to, but to this day he could never figure out how he was able to do airbending as well so decided to keep it on the down-low, but whenever he was assigned to work with Tenzin and his family he would join them and watch their training and participate in the meditation.

Tenzin thought this was just Koji's idea of being able to bond with the family and help them which he didn't mind.

When in actuality, Koji was another one of Tenzin's students and Tenzin didn't even know it.

We find ourselves at the South Pole, where Korra was facing two firebenders in her firebending final test and she was wiping the floor with them.

"She's strong." Katara said.

"She lacks restraint." A White Lotus member said.

One firebender fired a powerful stream of flames but Korra smirks as she ran through the flames and blasted them to the ground.

"Whoo! Oh yeah! I win!" Korra said.

"Not so fast Korra." Katara said getting her attention. "You still have one opponent left."

"Who?" Korra asks when Koji wearing a red fire nation sparing outfit came out.

"Me." Koji grins taking a fighting stance

"Oh this is gonna be fun." Korra grins as Koji jumps down and faces her in the middle. "Don't think for a second I'm holding back."

"You said that the last time we fought and I kicked your butt up and down this arena." Koji said.

"Oh you are gonna get it now." Korra said cracking her knuckles.

"Now this is a fight." Katara smiles as both of them faced off.

Korra went on the attack first shooting balls of fire at him but Koji kept his stance sharp as he bobbed and weaved before swinging his foot knocking Korra to the ground.

Looking up Korra sees Koji dive down with a flaming fist.

Rolling out of the way Korra dodges the attack but Koji kept the fire going forcing Korra to go on the defense.

"Impressive." The White Lotus said.

"Not really, those two have been training together since they were little. You can bring in the best firebenders around but Koji is the only here who can really provide Korra with the challenge she needs." Katara said.

Blows of fire shot out as Korra and Koji exchanged blow after blow trying to get the edge of one another.

Locking hands Koji and Korra grapple trying to push the other back.

"You're not gonna win this time Korra." Koji growls.

"Yes I am." Korra growls as she fires a powerful blast at him but Koji parts the flames before charging in and kneeing Korra in the chest knocking her back.

Korra looks and saw Koji was not backing down. She needed something to trip him up she got an idea.

Flames surrounded Koji's fist as he was about to move in and win this.

"Hey Koji wanna kiss me?" Korra asks stopping him mid-attack.

"What?!" Koji said surprised as Korra uses this opening and blasts him.

Koji falls to the ground but before he could get up Korra grabs his arms and pins him to the ground.

Looking up Koji saw Korra on top of him with a smirk on her face.

"Looks like I win." Korra teases.

"Low blow." Koji growls.

"How many times have those two fought?" The White Lotus asks.

"Right now it's 51- 50 with Korra just getting the lead." Katara said.

"Admit it, you didn't hate the idea." Korra teases.

"I'll get you for that." Koji as they walked over to Katara and the White Lotus.

"Well if I didn't pass before I definitely did beating Koji. 3 Elements down, 1 to go." Korra said.

"Not so fast Korra, we haven't decided if you past your firebending test yet." Her firebending master said.

"Ever since you were a little girl you've excelled at the physical side of bending but have completely ignore the spiritual side." A White lotus member said.

"I know, but it just doesn't come as easy." Korra admits.

"But even so I've studied with Tenzin for a long time. He's the expert in all things spiritual." Koji adds.

"What do you think, Master Katara?" He asks.

"Yes, if anyone can teach her it's Tenzin." Katara agrees.

"Very well Korra, you will begin your airbending training at once." He said.

"Thank you all for believing in me." Korra said as she and Koji walked away.

The second the two of them were out of sight the two of them smiled and cheered.

"I did it! Koji I did it!" Korra cheers.

"Fire bending is officially over!" Koji said as they high fived.

"One more element and I'm an official Avatar." Korra smiles.

"Don't get too cocky. I've been sitting through Tenzin's lectures and trust me. You'll need a spiritual side to be able to sit through all that." Koji warns.

"Oh man what am I gonna do? I am so excited." Korra said.

"I have an idea to help you chill out." Koji said.

"How?" Korra said when he trips her and she falls into the snow. "Hey! What was that?!"

"Payback!" Koji laughs as he runs off.

"Where are you going? Get back here!" Korra yells chasing after him. "Oh you think you're funny Koji!"

As Kya was at her place sipping tea enjoying the peace and quiet she suddenly heard a familiar noise.

Looking over she saw Koji running through the snow as fast as he could.

"Hi Mom! Bye Mom!" Koji said running past her.

"Hey Koji what's the rush?" Kya asks.

"Can't talk now! She's after me!" Koji said as he shot flames into the ground launching him into the air.

"You can't run forever Koji!" Korra yells.

Kya looks over to see Korra riding her polar bear dog Naga chasing after him.

"Those two will never change." Kya laughs sipping her tea and enjoying the show.

A few days later, Korra walks out in her normal water tribe clothes while Koji walked out in his own modified version of the White Lotus clothes. He wore a dark blue and blue patterned shirt with two wrist guards on his arms, the White Lotus symbol on a sash around his waist, blue pants and boots.

Looking up they saw Tenzin and his family flying in on his Sky Bison.

"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? It looks like we're here. I know it. Are we here yet? Are we here yet? Ooh, please tell me we're here!" Tenzin's daughter Ikki said.

"Yes, Ikki as I've been saying for the past 15 minutes we are finally here." Tenzin said relieved as Jinora and Ikki jumped off and his son Meelo was still on his shoulders as Katara walks up to them. "Hello mother, I can't tell you how happy I am to see you. Please help me." He begs as Katara grabs Meelo.

"Unhand me strange woman!" Meelo said.

"That's your grandmother, Meelo." Tenzin said as Koji walks up and helps Tenzin's wife Pema off the bison.

"Hi Aunt Pema." Koji said as she gave him a hug.

"Koji you look so handsome." Pema smiles as Tenzin walks over.

"I see you've decided to change the White Lotus uniform." Tenzin narrowing his eyes.

"What's wrong with it? I like it this way." Katara said walking over.

"Thanks grandma." Koji smiles as Katara put a hand to Pema's pregnant belly.

"I see another airbender in your future." Katara said much to Pema's disappointment.

"I just want a nice nonbender like me. One who doesn't jump around blowing wind in my face every 5 minutes." Pema said.

"Mommy look I'm a snowbender!" Meelo said bursting out of a snowman to emphasize her point.

"We're Tenzin and his siblings ever like this?" Pema asks.

"Kya and Bumi were but Tenzin was always been rather serious." Katara said.

"Mother please." Tenzin said before noticing Korra. "Korra?"

"Hey Tenzin." Korra smiles walking over.

"Look at you, so big and strong. Koji's been writing to us about your progress. You've become quite the Avatar." Tenzin smiles.

"Oh does he say anything else about me?" Korra asks looking to Koji with a smirk.

"Sorry not talking." Koji said zipping his lips.

"Master Tenzin I'm so glad you're here I can't wait to get started." Korra said.

"Yes…about that." Tenzin said regretfully.

"You're gonna have to tell her sooner or later." Pema said.

"Tell me what?" Korra asks.

"You're not staying." Katara realized.

"I'm afarid not. We're only staying for the night, if anything I need to take Koji back with me." Tenzin said.

"Me?" Koji said surprised.

"Yes, you." Tenzin said.

"What? No you're supposed to move here, you're supposed to teach me airbending." Korra said.

"I'm sorry Korra, but your training is going to have to wait." Tenzin said.

"I better go get Kya and tell her to come over." Katara said walking away with Tenzin and Pema.

"Give me a hug you three." Koji said as Jinora, Ikki and Meelo ran over and hugged him tight. "How are my favorite cousins?"

"Koji we're you're only cousins." Jinora smirks.

"Which automatically makes us #1." Ikki smiles.

"Yes it does." Koji said.

"Koji if you're coming back to Republic City can we play games? Run around the island? Ooh can you us cookies like you did last time?" Ikki asks excited.

"Your Chocolate chips are the best." Meelo smiles.

"Sure thing." Koji smiles causing them to cheer.

That night, Kya, Korra, Tenzin, Koji and her White Lotus instructors were sitting together.

"So how long before you can teach me airbending? A week? A month?" Korra asks.

"It could be much longer." Tenzin said.

"I don't understand. Why are you making me wait?" Korra asks.

"And while we're at it. Why do you need me?" Koji asks.

"Tired of getting your tea by yourself?" Kya asks.

"I have a duty to Republic City as one of its leaders and the situation there is unstable. Right now, I need Koji to come backs and be my assistant again to help me work to put an end to this problem." Tenzin explains.

"But you also have a responsibility to teach airbending. I'd love to find another airbending master to teach me but you're the only one. It's not like there's another airbender in this room." Korra said as Koji adjusts his jacket nervously.

"Wait. I might have an idea." Koji said getting everyone's attention. "Since Tenzin has to go to Republic City why doesn't she just come with us that way you can work and train her."

"Yes! Koji that's perfect!" Korra smiles.

"Absolutely not, the city is far too dangerous." The White Lotus said.

"Yet you guys seem to have no problem sending my son there 3 months a year." Kya glares causing them to cringe.

"Koji is different. He is a White Lotus and Avatar Aang tasked us with making sure Korra is safe." He said.

"But I don't think he meant keeping me locked up in this compound." Korra said.

"I'm sorry Korra, but it's just not the right time." Tenzin said.

"Whatever." Korra said standing. "Just bring me a box of snacks like you always do when you get back." Korra sighs looking to Koji before she leaves.

"That girl." Tenzin sighs.

"What did you expect? She's been here her whole life, Tenzin. The only friends she has are Koji and her Polar bear dog." Kya said.

"Koji, I really need your help." Tenzin said turning to his nephew.

"Okay, I'll come." Koji said as his Uncle smiles patting him on the shoulder.

"Don't worry, with you by my side we'll be done in no time." Tenzin said.

"I hope so." Koji said before turning to his mom.

"I expect you to still call and keep in contact with me." Kya said.

"I will mom." Koji said hugging her. "I love you."

"Love you too Koji." Kya said.

The next morning Koji climbed onto Oogi and looks to see Katara and Kya waving goodbye.

"Bye mom, bye grandma." Koji said as they took off.

Little did he know Korra and Naga were watching him fly away and she would be joining him shortly.

A few days later on Air Temple Island, Tenzin was walking into the main room to see Pema reading in her chair.

"Pema, have you seen Koji?" Tenzin asks.

"He went out." Pema said.

"Already?" Tenzin asks.

"Come on Tenzin, whenever that boy comes back to the city, he always goes to have lunch at his favorite restaurant. Nothing wrong with that." Pema said.

"I know, but I was really hoping we could go to the council today." Tenzin said when the phone started to ring. Walking over Tenzin picked it up. "Hello Councilman Tenzin speaking…what?! Are you serious? I'll be right there." Tenzin said hanging up.

"What's wrong sweetie?" Pema asks.

"I got to get Koji. I need his help right now." Tenzin said running out to his sky bison.

At a place called Elemental Noodles, Koji was sitting down and enjoying a bowl, but he wasn't alone. Sitting across from him was an 18-year-old Asami Sato who was eating with him.

"Mmm, never get tired of coming to this place." Asami said slurping up some noodles.

"It's not one those fancy high-end places you always go to with your dad, but at least we always have fun." Koji said.

"So how long do you think you'll be in the city for this time?" Asami asks.

"Probably a decent chunk of time. Uncle Tenzin needs me as his assistant again to help him out with work from the council." Koji said.

"Well I'll have to make sure to stop by as often as I can and say hi." Asami said.

"Don't worry I'll still make time to swing by your mansion." Koji said.

"You know Koji, my dad is a big business meeting in a couple of days." Asami said putting her hand on top of his. "He'll be gone for almost two days."

"Would you like it if I came over and kept you company?" Koji asks.

"Very much." Asami said as she leaned in and kissed him on the lips which he happily kissed back.

Ever since Asami lost her mom, Koji would visit her every time he was in Republic City and when he went back to the South Pole, he would right her letters just so they could keep in contact. Asami really enjoyed having him around. Koji quickly became her best friend and up until 2 years ago, they both realized they had feelings for each other.

As both of them separate they look into each other's eyes happy to be there when Koji's eyes widen to see Tenzin walking in the front door.

"Uncle Tenzin?" Koji said as he moved back.

"Koji." Tenzin said walking over and notices. "Oh Ms. Sato, a pleasure to see you again."

"Hello Tenzin." Asami waves.

"I'm sorry to interrupt your lunch but I need to borrow Koji, it's very important." Tenzin said.

"What's wrong?" Koji said.

"Korra's in the city and the police just arrested her." Tenzin said surprising him.

"What? How did she get here?" Koji asks.

"I have no idea, but I could really use your help right now." Tenzin said.

"Uh Asami." Koji said looking to her.

"Go ahead, your Uncle needs you." Asami said as he took out his wallet and paid for lunch.

"You're the best." Koji said kissing her on the cheek before running out with Tenzin.

Looking down at her noodles Asami sighs. "Always so eager to help others…but that's why I love him."

At the Police Station, Korra was in an interrogation room as a woman with gray hair a scar on her cheek and a police uniform walked in, this was Lin Beifong.

"Multiple counts of destruction of private and city property, not to mention evading arrest. You're in a lot of trouble young lady." Lin said.

"But there were some thugs threatening a helpless shopkeeper, and I had it…"

"Can it!" Lin interrupts. "You should have called the police and stayed out of the way."

"But I couldn't just sit by and do nothing. It's my duty to help people. You see, I'm the Avatar." Korra said.

"Oh I am well aware who you are and your Avatar title may impress some people, but not me." Lin said.

"Fine, then I want to talk to whoever's in charge." Korra said.

"You're talking to her. I'm Chief Beifong." Lin declared.

"Wait, Beifong? Lin Beifong? You're Toph's daughter." Korra realized.

"What of it?" Lin asks.

"Well then, why are you treating me like a criminal? Avatar Aang and your mother were friends. They saved the world together." Korra explains.

"That's ancient history. And it's got diddly-squat to do with the mess you're in right now. You can't just waltz in here and dole out vigilante justice like you own the place!" Lin said when a cop opens a small opening.

"Chief. Councilman Tenzin is here." He said.

"Send him in." Lin said annoyed.

The door opens to reveal Tenzin and Koji.

"Hey guys, I got a little sidetracked on my way to see you." Korra said.

Tenzin sighs before turning to Lin. "Lin you are looking radiant as usual."

"Cut the garbage, Tenzin. Why is the Avatar in Republic City? I thought you were supposed to be moving down to the South Pole to train her." Lin said.

"Sadly he only came to get me." Koji said.

"Funny I thought you finished your yearly visits." Lin smirks.

"Turns out I needed a 4th visit. The Avatar, on the other hand, will be heading back to the South Pole immediately, where she will stay put." Tenzin said.

"If you would be so kind as to drop the charges against Korra, I will take full responsibility for today's regrettable events and cover all the damages." Tenzin offers.

"I'll even bring 2 boxes of doughnuts tomorrow for you guys." Koji offers trying to sweeten the deal.

"Fine. Get her out of my city." Lin said.

"Always a pleasure Lin. Let's go Korra." Tenzin said when Lin grabs Koji.

"I want some with jelly in them." Lin said.

"Got it." Koji said walking out.

In the waiting room, Koji and Tenzin were talking to Korra.

"I wanna say I can't believe you did this, but…honestly I can't." Koji said.

"Tenzin please, don't send me back home." Korra begs.

"You blatantly disobeyed my wishes and the orders of the White Lotus." Tenzin said.

"Katara agreed with me that I should come. She said my destiny is in Republic City." Korra said.

"Don't bring my mother into this!" Tenzin said red with anger.

"Tenzin if grandma thinks she belongs here maybe we should give her a chance." Koji said.

"Look, I can't wait any longer to finish my training. Being cooped up and hidden away from the world isn't helping me become a better Avatar. I saw a lot of the city today, and it's totally out of whack. I understand now why you need to stay. Republic City does need you. But it needs me, too." Korra said.

"Give her a chance Tenzin. What have we got to lose?" Koji asks.

"He's right, you got nothing to lose." Korra agrees.

"You…ah." Tenzin sighs in defeat knowing they were right when a cop walked out with Naga.

"Is this your polar bear dog, miss?" He asks.

That night, as the sun was setting Tenzin was looking up at a statue of Avatar Aang before seeing Koji sitting with Korra.

"I always hoped one day you would come here. I'd show you the sights, eat some good food, have fun." Koji said.

"Yeah, sounds amazing." Korra sighs. "I wish I could stay."

"Well if you do have to leave." Koji reaches into his bag and pulls out a box. "For the ride home?"

"No way, you got them?" Korra asks as she opens it to reveal sweets. "Oh man Koji you are the best." Korra said eating one.

"I do what I can." Koji smiles.

At Air Temple Island, Ikki, Jinora and Meelo fly in and meet them.

"Korra!" The three of them smile hugging her.

"Are you coming to live with us?" Ikki asks.

"No, I'm sorry Ikki but I have to go home." Korra said.

As Korra walks to the boat, she gives Koji a big hug. "

"Wait." Tenzin said getting their attention. "I have done my best to guide Republic City toward the dream my father had for it, but you're right. It has fallen out of balance since he passed. I thought I should put off your training in order to uphold his legacy, but you are his legacy. You may stay and train airbending here with me. Republic City needs its Avatar once again." Tenzin said causing Korra to gasp.

"Yes! Thank you! You're the best!" Korra said pulling everyone into a big group, even Naga joins in on it.

The next day at City Hall, a large crowd had gathered to see Korra in the front of all of it.

"Hello, I'm Korra the new Avatar." Korra said and all the reporters went crazy with the questions.

"Does this mean you've moved to Republic City?"

"Were you trying to send a message to the Triads yesterday?"

"Will you be fighting crime or the Anti-bending Revolution, or both?"

"Will you be working with Chief Beifong and the police?"

"Uh ... yes, I am definitely here to stay, but honestly I - I don't exactly have a plan yet. See, I'm still in training, but, look, all I know is Avatar Aang meant for this city to be the center of peace and balance in the world, and I believe we can make his dream a reality. I look forward to serving you!" Korra said as the crowd went crazy.

"I hope this means you won't helping us from time to time?" Koji asks looking to Lin.

"It's gonna take a lot more than please and thank you to get my help, Koji." Lin said when Koji pulls out the two boxes of doughnuts he promised. "Just make sure it's not something stupid." Lin said taking a jelly doughnut.

"No promises." Koji chuckles as all the police took some.

In an unknown location, we see someone listening to Korra on the radio.

"I'm so happy to be here. Thank you, Republic City!" Korra said when a man turned off the radio.

"Amon, how do you want to handle this?" He asks a man wearing a hood and a mask over his face.

"The Avatar has come earlier than we thought. It looks like we'll have to accelerate our plans." Amon declared.
