It's been 3 days now since my friends and I got stuck on the highway. I wish we had known what was happening rapidly in the world during our camping trip.

Zack, Erin and I are currently stuck up in a tree by the little camp we had made in the woods. Our friends are now dead and what is left of them is currently walking around the base of the tree we're stuck in.

The things the people on the highway were saying about this sickness is true. Once you've been bitten, even if you manage to get away, you still get sick and die from the fever. What's worse is after you die you don't stay dead.

3 Days Prior

Morgan's fever was uncontrollable, Sarah had done many cold water compresses and given him fever medicine. Nothing seemed to have helped, and Kyle's fever was well on the same course.

Their bite wounds weren't doing much better either. Besides being bad to look at they had become horribly infected as well. The girls had given them some antibiotics from the med kits when they had bandaged their wounds but it wasn't working.

We had all foolishly gone to sleep not long after treating the boys and setting up camp. I had been feeling uneasy and couldn't sleep well, so I decided to get up and sit by what was left of the fire. I started to hear rustling from the other tent and figured that maybe one of the injured boys might need checked on.

So I went back to the main tent and woke Sarah and Anna up to see if they would check on their boyfriends. I know they preferred looking after their respective men.

Unfortunately I accidentally woke Zack, Jacob, and Erin up as well. So we all leave the tent and the girls and Jacob went over to the smaller tent.

Anna unzipped the tent door and entered."Boys how you feeling?" She asked, No answer. You can hear some rustling before her horrified scream rings out and we all come running. "Omg he's dead! What the fuck!"Anna screams holding him to her.

Sarah kneels down to check on her boyfriend. He breathing but only just barely. "He's breathing but very faintly. His fever is outrageous right now" Sarah says worried.

"Oh man this is so fucked up! He must have died from that fever" Zack asks kneeling down to put his hand on Anna's shoulder. "I think I'm going to puke" Erin says running back out the tent.

"Erin wait"Jacob says moving to follow her. "Wait Jacob, let me check on her. Sometimes a woman's touch is a little better" I say leaving the tent to follow Erin.

I found Erin a little ways away by a stream leaned up against a tree puking. "Erin hun, let me help hold your hair" I ask walking up beside her out of her fire zone. She just nods weakly. After about 5 minutes she finally calms down some and the puking stops.

"You don't have to go back in the tent but at least come back to camp. Jacob's worried sick about you" I say helping her move away from the ick puddle. "Ok" she mutters weakly. We get back to find Zack and Jacob by the campfire. We can hear both girls in the tent sobbing.

The look on both boys faces is very somber. "Kyle didn't make it. The fever got him too" Zack says look down at his feet. "Oh my God" I breathe helping Erin sit on a log before quickly doing the same.

"This can't be happening. This has got to be a nightmare" I say looking down at my hands. I knew I felt something bad was going to happen but I didn't expect this.

Eventually after about an hour the girls come out of the tent, tear streaked and weary looks on their faces. They both just plopped down on a log defeated.

We all just sat in somber silence for a while. "I feel like we should do something for their bodies at least? One of us is gonna have to make the walk back to our cars anyway to see if they ever got the road clear."Zack said determinedly. "Yeah I hate seeing them like that but we can't leave them like that either" Jacob said in agreement.

"I can make the trip back to the cars. Jacob will you help with Morgan and Kyle's bodies" Zack asks. "Yeah I can help it's the least I can do" Jacob said getting up. "I wanna help too that is my boyfriend" Sarah said getting up.

We never could have expected what happened next. Zack had already taken off towards the highway. "I can't watch this will you help me fetch some water from the little stream we were by earlier" Erin asked me. "Yeah sure. You gonna be okay Anna?" I ask standing up.

"Huh? Oh yeah sorry. I'm probably gonna help Sarah and Jacob with the boys bodies" Anna mutters after breaking out of her daze. "Ok if you're sure" I said looking at her doubtfully.

She got up and walked towards the tent to join the others. I walked over to bigger tent to get one of the larger canteens before proceeding to go with Erin to the stream.

We were headed back to camp when we heard Jacob's screams. Erin and I looked at each other before running back to camp.

The sight we got back to was horrific. Morgan was leaned over Jacob's bloody stomach. His hands covered in blood as he was eating what looked like entrails.

Poor Sarah was laying lifeless face down with part of her left side torn open exposing blood and her ribs.

Anna was leaned against a log by the fire with Kyle chewing skin that came from her neck and shoulder.

"Oh my God" Erin said crying at the sight. Morgan looked up and with a growl got up and started towards us. "Run Erin" I yelled pointing towards the woods.

I ran past Sarah's body to grab two of the camping bags before dodging Morgan's outstretched arms to follow Erin into the woods. I caught up to her pretty quickly but I could hear the growls and moans from Morgan and Kyle chasing after us.

Out of nowhere Zack comes running through the woods from a different side sees us and comes kind of to a stop before he changes direction and runs towards us while dodging around Kyle.

"We have to get somewhere they can't get us" he yells. "What about a tree?" I ask panting. "That should work" Zack says looking back to see how close Morgan and Kyle were to us.

"They're a decent distance away if we hurry we could make it up a tree real quick. There that one" Zack yells pointing to a tree with several thick limbs we could all climb decently easy.

We ran to the tree and Zack and I helped Erin up first onto a limb before Zack and I jumped into the tree to find a limb of our own.

Morgan and Kyle made it to the bottom of the tree and were groaning and reaching for us but were not able to get us thankfully. And so we sat in this tree waiting.
