"What was Hogwarts like?" Aurora asked looking up at Draco.
"Well, it's an old castle located in Scotland-"
"Oh come on! Even I could have told you that!" Aurora scoffed. "What is the school system like?"
"Well, when you're about 11 you receive your Hogwarts letter, which is basically an acceptance letter."
"Everyone got a letter?"
"Yes."
"Even muggle-borns?"
"Yes, how did the enrollment processes work at Metis Academy?"
"Well, only purebloods were accepted…well I shouldn't say accepted. If you were pureblood you were eligible to sit for the entrance exam."
"Being pureblood wasn't enough?" Draco questioned.
"Heavens no! The school has a reputation to uphold, they can't just accept anyone regardless of how pure their ancestry is. There's a reason why it's the most prestigious witchcraft academy in the country." Aurora adjusted herself so she was sitting with her legs crossed on the couch facing Draco. "When you turn 11 you receive a letter saying that you are eligible to take the exam."
"And I'm assuming if you pass you get accepted and if you fail-"
"You, better find yourself a new school." Aurora chuckled. "But it doesn't just end there."
"Really?"
"Yeah, you see even if you got accepted that doesn't mean that your spot was guaranteed. It was very competitive, we had to take progress exams every three years. Fail the progress exam you get booted out, and these exams were no walk in the park, they were graded on a bell curve."
"Seriously? You guys were graded against each other?"
"Yes, it was brutal. It seemed like the professors would deliberately start to push you out; weed out the weak if you will. I'm sure you're very familiar with that processes being a medical student and all."
Draco sniggered. "Oh, you have no idea."
"So, tell me more about Hogwarts."
"Well, there's a housing system."
"I think I remember Emerson tell me something about that. How does the housing system work?"
"In your first year you get sorted by the sorting hat based on certain qualities you possess. You could either get sorted into Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff."
"What house were you in?"
"Slytherin. My house values ambition, cunning, leadership, and resourcefulness."
"Very interesting, what house do you think I would have been sorted into if I had attended?"
Draco paused for a moment eyeing her. "That's a good question…I think you would have been sorted into Ravenclaw."
"Ravenclaw?"
"Yes, actually you would have fit in well there. Ravenclaw house values intelligence, creativity, learning, and wit."
"Hmmmm, I think I like that house." Aurora laughed. "What house were my brothers in?"
"Slytherin."
"What about Wyatt and Ramona? I remember Ramona did attend Hogwarts before transferring to Metis Academy."
"Ramona was also in Slytherin and Wyatt was in Ravenclaw."
"Did you have any hobbies?"
"I played Quidditch, I was on the house team."
"What position?"
"I was a seeker."
"Really? Cool! You know, I've never been to a Quidditch game."
"Really?!" Draco was stunned, how is that even possible?! "Oh Aurora!" He exclaimed aghast. "You poor deprived child!"
"What?"
"How could you have gone your whole life without attending as much as one Quidditch game? Not even a junior league match?"
"None."
"Ohhhhhh." Draco dramatically clutched at his chest and leaned back into the couch as if to faint. "This hurts my heart!"
Aurora cocked an eyebrow. "I didn't take you to be such a Quidditch fanatic."
"You learn something new every day." Draco smile sitting back up. "Actually, back when my father was at Hogwarts he wanted to become a professional Quidditch player."
Aurora let out a snort of laughter. "Are you serious?!"
"Yeah, mother said he was quite the athlete back in his day. She also said that he was the biggest dunderhead she had ever met."
Aurora laughed until her eyes watered. "I love your parents! I wish my parents were a bit more like them."
"Your parents are nice people."
"Yeah they're nice, but that's all I can say for them. I wish I knew them the way you know your parents." Aurora stated with a melancholy tone.
Draco noticed how quickly Aurora's mood had changed. He didn't like seeing her unhappy like this. Someone as beautiful as she shouldn't be sad.
"One time in my third year at Hogwarts, this kid threw a crocodile heart at me and it hit me right in the face." Draco blurted out suddenly.
Aurora paused and looked at him as if he had gone mad and then the room was instantly filled with her laughter. Draco didn't care that he had just revealed some embarrassing fact about himself, as long as it made Aurora happy. He loved the way her nose wrinkled when she laughed and the delightful sound of her voice. Draco would spend days telling her about all of his embarrassing moments if it would make her laugh the way she is now. He looked over and found Aurora doubled over still laughing with tears in her eyes.
"I-I-"Aurora gasped desperately trying to catch her breath. "-what? Are you serious?"
"Absolutely."
"Why?! And where did he even get the crocodile heart?!"
"It was during potions class."
"Oh, that explains it, so why did he throw it at you?"
"I was making fun of his friend…"
"You what?"
"Yeah, I wasn't really the nicest bloke in school." Draco stated sheepishly. "I was a bit of an arsehole."
"Oh my God! You were a bully?"
"Uh…yes…I'm not even going to deny it."
"Wow…that's really funny though. I can't believe some kid nailed in you the face with a crocodile heart. What was his name?"
"Ronald Weasley."
"What is he doing now?"
"No idea."
"I'm very impressed, and he did it right in the middle of class."
"Yes."
Aurora shook her head. "Now I kind of wish I was there to witness it."
"Well, you can ask Ramona all about it because she was there."
"Really?!"
"Yes."
Aurora leaned her head on the head of the couched and looked at Draco affectionately. "You are probably the only person that can make me laugh this hard. Thank you for being an idiot in your younger days, because if you weren't you wouldn't have any stories to tell me."
"Well, I'm happy to know that you are laughing at my expense." Draco exclaimed playfully. "I should have never told you that story. You're never going to let it go are you?"
Aurora shook her head. "As long as there's still air in my lungs I will never forget the crocodile heart story!"
Draco shook his head and then looked at his watch and noticed that it was 7pm.
"Aurora?"
"Yes?"
"Listen, I have to go. I have to finish up a report for work tomorrow."
"Oh." She stated mildly disappointed that he had to leave, and they were having such a great time too!
"Look, I don't have work the following day so I promise I'll come back tomorrow after my shift ends."
"Okay!"
Aurora stood up to walk Draco out. Just before he left she gave him a hug goodbye and Draco began to make his way down the hallway.
"I'll see you tomorrow!" Aurora called after him.
Draco waved in way of response, once he turned the corner he was out of sighed and Aurora stepped back into her apartment and shut the door.
