The cold wind blew piercing her skin like steel knives, Aurora shrunk into her jacket as she looked out into the distance. Eight hours of straight hiking in the blistering cold and fierce winds; she finally made it to the summit and boy was it a sight to behold. Standing 12,388 feet about sea level Aurora marveled at the view before her, the sky was so blue and the whistling winds blew the clouds beneath her over the snow covered peaks, looking out even further she can see the snow covered valleys below. It looked like something out of one of Friedrich's works, now what was that painting called? 'Wonder above a sea of fog'? Yes, that was it. Aurora smiled at the sheer accuracy of it all, she was a wonderer standing above a sea of "fog". How long will she continue to wonder? Who knows and who cares! As long as it took for her to be completely satisfied with the wonderings that this world has to offer.
So here she is, standing at the top of a dormant volcano, the mountain of fire and ice, one of Japan's holiest mountains. Aurora desperately wanted to capture this scene in her sketch pad but there was no way she would be able to hold the charcoal properly. Her fingers would simply freeze off and the wind blew so ferociously she had no chance of steadying the pages. Oh well, only thing she can do, just simply sit and enjoy.
Aurora made herself comfortable (or as comfortable as she could get in this cold) and sat near a distinguished Shinto shrine. She sat in silence drinking in the scene, trying to ingrain the sight in her mind in hopes that she will be able to draw from memory later.
The wind picked up, howling ferociously. Perhaps hiking up the mountain in March was not the brightest idea but she was already in the country so waste not. Aurora smirked to herself, had she gone back a two years ago and told herself that she would become extremely unpredictable and "unstable" she would never have believed it. Funny how life works like that, nothing is ever constant. It's only natural for humans to change and develop, sometimes for the best or for the worst; it really was a matter of perspective. Personally she thinks that she had changed for the better, however those that she left behind probably would not agree. Irresponsible, selfish, ph! She's spent her entire life with irresponsible selfish people, who were they to criticize?
Standing up and brushing snow off her pants Aurora decided it was time to go. It was getting dark and her fingers and toes felt as if they were about to fall off. She can finally cross 'climb Mt. Fuji' off her bucket list, but where to next…
Bangkok sounds like a good destination.

"Bloody idiot…" Wyatt mumbled to himself as he stormed away from his friend once again. They've only been in Boston two days and they've done nothing but argue nonstop. One would think that Draco would be a bit more sensible since he was the friend that had his head on straight and was reasonably more responsible. Wyatt was the one in their duo who constantly joked that he had a few screws loose up in his noggin. But now it seems as if they have done a complete swap. Draco has completely lost his head, boozing and getting off with the next pretty witch that came his way and Wyatt, for the first time in years, has decided to abstain from women for the time being. There were more pressing matters than getting a good shag; Draco, however, seems to think otherwise.
The nerve of that bloody git! They were here looking for Aurora and after that fight they had in the park where the hell does he find him? In a bar snogging some chick from god knows where! Does he not have any shame?!
"I'm going home!" Draco called after him.
Wyatt stopped and turned to face the bloody idiot. "Do me a favor! I can't believe I actually thought that brining you along was a good idea!"
"Oh please, it's not like you were doing me any favors! If anything, you've inconvenienced me beyond expression."
"Inconvenience?-You came on your own accord, dumbass!"
"You berated me into coming with you!"
"I did no such thing!"
"Yes you did."
Wyatt looked around and noticed they were attracting quite a bit of attention, he grabbed Draco by the elbow and dragged him out of the bar.
"Get off!" Draco struggled but Wyatt tightened his grip.
Once they were outside he let go. "Listen, I am in no mood to make a fool of myself in front of a bunch of strangers-
"That never stopped you before."
"Ever since we got here," Wyatt continued evenly ignoring Draco's statement, he was clearly trying to get a rise out of him. "You've been doing nothing but complain and drink. I'm sick of it!"
"And I'm sick of you nagging me like some old mammy, I'm a grown man!"
"You know what fine!" Wyatt threw is hands up in frustration, "if drinking and whoring around is all you care about, go! Go back to New York and resume your sordid activities!"
"I'm leaving because I have rotations tomorrow morning…"
"How the hell do you plan on making it through your rotations if you're smashed all the time?! Or do you just plan on being sober for just part of the day?"
"…"
"You know, I always thought better of you. I never in my life would have imagined that you would end up like this."
"It's none of-"
"You're my best mate, man! So I beg to differ, it so is my business."
Draco remained silent, this was exhausting. They haven't spent much time here but it was already clear that Aurora had been in the city and that Laveau woman was just as clueless as they were. She had admitted that Aurora had indeed been to the school to visit but left quickly afterwards headed to San Francisco. That was two months ago, now she was god knows where, honestly this was pointless. Bottom line was she was here and now she's not. And Wyatt was constantly breathing down his neck. Why did he even bother coming in the first place? What an utter waste of time, they haven't found anything useful!
"Listen, if you want to go, go. I'm staying here." Wyatt signed pinching the bridge of his nose.
"What for, she's not here?"
"There's something else I'd like to see here."
"Fine." Draco prepared to Disapparated when Wyatt addressed him once more.
"You better behave yourself, I'm going to come and check on you as soon as I'm don't here."
Draco waved dismissively and was gone the next moment, Wyatt shook his head. Draco Malfoy was one nasty piece of work, perhaps he should send Ramona to keep an eye on him. If there was anyone that Draco was mildly afraid of it would be her. Ramona wasn't as understanding as he was, she also lacked constraint, she wasn't afraid to tell it like it is or reprimand disreputable behavior. Better yet, she'd probably yell at him in front of an audience.
A total of 14 days in the city and Wyatt had finally found what he was looking for, he had heard rumors of the existence of an ancient underground city here in Boston from the alchemists that worked for his father. Naturally it peaked his curiosity, however, it was no walk in the park locating it. But that's what provoked his interest in the first place, it wouldn't be a secret society if everyone knew about it.
Stuffing the map into his pocket he opened the door and entered the church. He made his way to the front of the building looking around. Wyatt coughed watching dust particles floating in the air illuminated by the sunrays beaming from the musty windows. Was this the right place? This building had clearly been abandoned years ago. He stopped when he spotted the mosaic of the Ouroboros in the center of the floor. A catlike smirk played at his lips, yup this was it, the famous Ouroboros symbol that graced so many of Cleopatra the Alchemist's works. He bent down on one knee and ran his hand over the tiles, so this was the entrance, the only question was how would he be able to get in?
A shiver ran down his spine when he felt something cold press against the back of his neck.
"The fact that you were able to find this place means that you have some knowledge as to what lies below." Spoke the delicate voice of a female.
Wyatt tried to discreetly reach for his wand but it was no use.
"Put your hands up slowly! No sudden movements or I'll curse you!" Her voice was now demanding and harsh. Wyatt did as he was told. "Now slowly stand up, and turn facing me." He obeyed and was shocked to find who held him at the point of a wand.
"Lujain?"
Lujain's eyes were wide with shock and suspicion. "Yes? How do you know my name?"
"It's me! Wyatt!"
"…"
"We, met in the park about two weeks ago…There's no way I could ever forget those incredible eyes." He put on his most charming smile
Lujain's cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. "…Oh yes, I remember." She stepped closer pressing her wand to his throat. "How did you find out about this place? People like you shouldn't even be able to enter the building?"
"Hey! Easy!" He leaned back slightly still keeping his hand up showing her that he meant no harm. "Forgive me," he began, "if I had known you were a witch upon our first meeting I would have revealed myself to you."
"You're not a Muggle?"
"Of course he isn't!" Shouted an amused voice behind her. "I swear Lulu, for someone so smart you can be very slow." Alejandro entered nonchalantly finishing a slice of pizza.
She turned her head to get a look at her colleague. "Do you want to finish that and help me here food-boy!"
"Por qué? He's the one who looks like he needs help." Alejandro cackled at his own joke and finished the rest of his pizza with one swift bite
"This isn't funny! We can't keep having strangers coming into the city!"
"Relax, it wasn't a big deal the last time we had a guest."
"That's because Madam Laveau vouched for her, I don't even know who this guy is or if he has any connections that will keep him safe!"
Wyatt's eyes grew to the size of saucers. "Madam Laveau? She vouched for your latest guest?"
Both Lujain and Alejandro turned to face him.
"Yes, what is it to you?" Lujain asked coolly.
"The one who Madam Laveau vouched for, did it happen to be anyone by the name of Aurora Pontellier by any chance?"
"Yes…How do you know her?"
"She's a close childhood friend of mine!" Wyatt slowly reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a photo of him and Aurora sitting in the university court yard engaged in a profound conversation some sort, he really couldn't say what they were talking about. It was taken months ago, in May to be specific.
"Yes, that's her." Alejandro confirmed. "She spent New Year's with us, she can't handle her liquor."
Wyatt chuckled. "Tell me about it! The little bird can't even handle a mimosa!"
Alejandro joined in on the laughter. "I know! When we took her to the discoteca she had only two shot of tequila and was wobbly on her feet. Kept falling on me on the dance floor!"
"You took her to a dance club?!" Wyatt threw is head back hardly able to contain himself. "Oh, what I would have given to see that girl in a club!" No longer caring about Lujain's wand he bent over clutching his side laughing, this was too funny. What were the odds that out of all the people he would bump into in this city, it would be the same young lady he met in the park and it turned out that she and her buddy over there knew Aurora and by some miracle were able to drag Miss Proper to a club.
"I'm glad you find this all amusing but that doesn't explain how you were able to find this place, and incidentally it's very dangerous for you to be here." Lujain grabbed Wyatt by the lapels of his coat and dragged him out of the church. "Alejandro you can go on without me." She called back. "I'll only be a moment."
Alejandro only shrugged before they were finally outside and she shut the door hiding him from view.
"You know, for such a soft spoken delicate looking creature you are really aggressive." Wyatt rubbed his neck.
"I have to be, otherwise I'll get taken advantage of."
"Strong woman, I like that." Wyatt smirked.
"How did you find this place?" Lujain was getting sick of asking the same question, she was beginning to feel like a broken record, and that fact that this guy had the nerve to flirt with her wasn't doing anything for her patients.
"I asked around…"
"Who?"
"No one in particular, the alchemists who work for my father would whisper about this place all the time. For the longest time I thought it was just a myth until two hooded blokes came out of nowhere and took Yara. She came back three weeks later with no recollection of the whole incident until we called an Auror to come and break the memory spell that was cast on her."
"Yes, our HR department is comprised of a very charismatic bunch." Lujain smiled.
Wyatt returned the smile and reached into his coat pocket pulling out a silver case, he opened it a pulled out a cigarette. "Do you part take?" He asked as he offered it to Lujain.
"No, so you're father has alchemists working for him?"
Placing the cigarette between his lips, he lit and it took a deep drag. "Yeah, my father is a potioneer and with the lab that he owns he has a potions department and an alchemist department, says the two tend to go hand in hand."
"I see…"
"So, the other day when you said that you were a chemist, you actually meant alchemist didn't you?"
"Yes."
"What specialty."
"Gold."
Wyatt's jaw dropped to his chest causing his newly lit cigarette to fall to the ground quickly being extinguished by the snow. "You can transmute materials into gold?!"
"Yes, it is what I was trained in."
"That's incredible! Such a talent is so rare! Man, dad would love to take you on as an employee!"
Lujain blushed and looked down at her shoes. "It's nothing really-"
"Are you kidding?! A lot of alchemists from all over the world have come to work for my father, and I mean a lot, and I have yet to meet a single person that is able to transmute anything into gold. And you," You moved is hands gesturing towards her. "You're so young and you can do it!"
Lujain looked up at him then quickly averted her eyes, he was really cute wasn't he? Especially when he got excited. So what, she can transmute gems into gold? It wasn't that big of a deal. Her colleagues' abilities were way more impressive than hers. Fayza can turn water into gold and Alejandro can do the same but with soil and on top of that, he can turn diamonds into tequila! In all honesty, that was way more impressive than gold transmutation.
"How did you come to work here?" Wyatt asked curiously lighting another cigarette.
"Same as your father's employee Yara, only difference is I accepted the job."
"I see."
"Listen," Lujain began looking around making sure that they cannot be overheard. "I don't know you, but you seem like a nice guy and I'm going to be forward with you. You need to leave and not come back."
"Why?"
"Because it isn't safe! You're not even supposed to know about the existence of this place!"
"What are they going to do? Oblivate me?"
"If the chieftess is feeling generous, yes. But her generosity has its limits. I can already tell you that I was already pushing my luck when I brought Aurora here and I don't think she'll be too pleased if I brought another guest."
"How did you meet Aurora?" Wyatt asked no longer interested in Lujain's warning.
"We met on the train coming up from Briarcliff."
"Before she left Boston, did she say anything about where she would go next?"
"Why?"
"Because I'm looking for her!"
"Is she the friend that you said ran off?"
He nodded vigorously. "Has she said anything to you?"
"No, I wasn't too concerned for her reasons being here. I didn't ask. However…" Lujain reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a folded envelope. "I did receive a letter from her two weeks ago."
Wyatt's eyes widened, finally a clue! He reached for the letter and then paused, "may I?"
"Go for it!"
He gentled pulled the envelope out of her hand and opened it pulling out the letter. He read it at least three times before smiling. "Good, she's safe!"
"It appears so, if you ask me, it looks like she's having the time of her life." Lujain peered over the letter.
"She does, doesn't she?" Wyatt agreed looking fondly at the neatly penned parchment. Okay so it wasn't the girl herself, but here was tangible proof that she was well and blooming. He could almost hear her voice in the words that she had penned, she was happy.
"If you don't mind," Lujain held out her hand and Wyatt returned the letter to her. "I have to get going, and you need to get lost."
Wyatt shot Lujain a quizzical look.
"I mean it! You can't be here and if you honestly think I'm going to let you enter the city you have another thing coming!"
"Alright, alright, fine." He straighten out his coat and reached out to shake her hand. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Ms."
"It was a pleasure meeting you too, Mr." Lujain winked.
"Before I go, I was wondering if you can do me a favor."
"Well, that depends…"
"Whenever Aurora writes to you, can you keep me updated in her movements? You see, when she left she didn't tell a single soul. Not even her personal house elf knows where she's gone and it would help me, as well as her family sleep better at night if we at least knew what country she's in."
"Sure." Lujain shrugged. "Just don't tell her that I'm helping you keep tabs on her, she may not like it."
"Of course, in fact I don't even planning on telling anyone from her immediate family except for her eldest brother, he's more…understanding than the rest."
Lujain nodded and turned to walk back into the church. "It was really nice meeting you."
"Same here doll." Wyatt winked.
Lujain giggled and entered the church shutting the door behind her. Funny guy, that one. She really liked him, hopefully they'll cross paths soon. Walking up to the mosaic she pulled out her dragger and performed the entrance ritual. The Ouroboros released its tail and the floor parted, back to another 14 days below the surface, this was bound to be fun. Lujain let out a long sigh as she took her first reluctant step down the stairs into the dark, 14 days-she took another step, 336 hours- a few more steps- 20160 minutes…She was finally at the bottom and the entrance began to close as she dragged her feet through the tunnel. Why the hell did she decide to work here? The Cleopatra Alchemists Federation was a very prestigious organization to work for but what was the payoff? Working underground being cut off from society as well as being forced to a pact of secrecy, no, that that final bit did not apply to her but still, she would like to live a normal life. How many relationships was she forced to end because of her line of work. She would like to get married and have children one day, but how was any of that even plausible if she was under the earth most of the time, literally living under a rock-
Before she knew it she lost her footing and was knocked to the ground with something heavy laying on top of her.
"What the-"
"Sorry love, it seems I added too much speed to that dive. I had to get in before the entrance closed off on me."
"Wyatt?!"
"Yes?" Wyatt climbed off of her pulled her to her feet.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"A lot of things darling, a lot of things." Wyatt chuckled brushing the dust off of his slacks. "It's very gloomy down here isn't it?"
"You're not supposed to be here! Oh god! We're both dead!"
"Really? Because from my point of view we both seem to be well and healthy!"
"Oh shut up! You know what I mean! If anyone sees you here we'll be in big trouble!"
"Not to worry love, I'll just cast a Disillusionment charm on myself and it'll be like I was never here."
"Or you can just go back up to the surface and pretend like you've never even heard of this place."
"And what, miss out on an adventure? I think not!"
Lujain let out an exasperated sigh. "Is there really no convincing you to go back?"
"None what so ever."
"Okay, fine. But you stay close to me and stay quiet."
"Not to worry love, quiet is my middle name!"
"Somehow I find that very hard to believe. You are a very exuberant fellow."
"Am I really? My sisters find me a bit dull."
"Dull in what context?" Lujain smirked gesturing to her head.
"Oh ha, ha. Funny."
"Come on and cast the damn charm already. I haven't got all day, I need to check in with the chieftess."
"Right, right." Wyatt quickly cast the charm making him vanish from view.
"Remember what I told you, stay close and be quiet." Lujain instructed once more as she pulled out her wand producing a light at the tip. She walked down the network of tunnels swiftly, each step taking her closer and closer to Arzit's office. Was this really going to work? Would a simple Disillusionment charm throw Arzit off? Probably not, that woman was as sharp as a razor! What would happen if she did sniff Wyatt out? The consequence of that would be even worse than her just inviting him in!
She took a deep breath, they were finally at the city boundaries, she can see countless of people below in their uniforms bustling about. Lujain said a silent prayer before descending down the stairs entering the city. She moved quickly and avoided eye contact, if she could at least slip in and contact her superior without any detours then everything should be okay. All she had to do was see Arzit, exchange a quick hello and then smuggle her guest to her apartment. Yes, this should work, she quickened her steps. They entered the long corridor that led to Arzit's office, almost there, just a few more steps, a quick hello then bam they're out-
"Lulu! Welcome back!"
Lujain gasped and looked up at her greeter. "Devora! Hey!" A tall red haired woman about her age stood before her.
"Did you enjoy your time in the sun?" Devora winked.
"You bet!"
"I'm actually on my way up."
"Are you now?"
"Yeah, I'm actually going to be gone for two months. That's the deal I struck with Arzit I told her I'll stay down here for a month and a half only if she let me have two months off and she agreed."
"That's nice! Are you going to visit family?"
"You bet! I'm missing my boyfriend like crazy!" Devora check her watch. "I have to go pack, I'm dying to get out of this rock. I'll see you around okay!" She waved goodbye and rushed past her. Lujain held her breath hoping that she didn't accidently bump into Wyatt. Another moment past and Lujain took another deep breath and continued walked to Arzit's office. Her heart was beating so fast it felt as if it was about to burst out of her ribcage, her stomach kept on doing one summersault after another, even her hands became a bit clammy.
And there it was the giant double doors with the Ouroboros adorned on them. Lujain closed her eyes, 'Okay there's nothing to worry about, just go in, say hi and then you're homefree…' She knocked on the door and waited a moment.
"Enter." Arzit's voice was muffled behind the door.
Lujain entered without further ado, and found Arzit preoccupied with a large pile of paperwork.
"Hello." Lujain greeted meekly. "I can tell you're busy so I'm just here to say hi and I'll get out of your way." She tried to exit has quickly as she entered.
"What, you're not going to stay and tell me how your break was?"
"Um…you just seem a bit busy-"
"Nonsense, come have a seat."
"…okay…" Lujain wanted nothing more than to run in the opposite direction but she couldn't refuse her boss. She sat in the armchair that was stationed in front of the desk and Arzit rang for tea. Immediately a house elf appeared holding a tray.
"You can leave the tray here Sivvy."
"Yes ma'am." The elf did was he was told and disappeared leaving them alone again.
Lujain took her cup and began to sip her tea nervously and noticed that every so often Arzit would glance back at her paperwork.
"Are you sure you want me to stay? You seem a bit preoccupied."
"Yes, it's fine."
"Anything interesting?" Lujain motioned her head gesturing to the pile of papers.
"Nah." Arzit shook her head. "Although it seems that the government is due for a new reform."
"The magical government?"
"Yes."
"Oh god, what's happened now? Another scandal? I swear we've had way too many of those. The wizarding community around the world is laughing at us because our own sovereign powers can't even get their shit together! How many magical coup d'états have happened since its conception? 3?"
"Try 2, however it may look like 3 soon."
"What are you going to do?"
"Absolutely nothing, it doesn't concern me what they do on the surface. Remember, this city is a self-sustaining country of its own. Their rules don't apply to us."
"Right…"
"You know, I think Marie has the right idea. What need is there for a magical government? Just look it, it's a complete shit show, run by nothing but a bunch of clowns if you ask me."
"Maybe you should run for Minister-excuse me, President I mean. Can't keep up with all their new reformed titles and what not. But hey, who knows what the next leader will be called?"
"My guess is probably Führer."
"Good lord, is it really that bad?"
"And to think that you would know better than I do since you go up the surface every two weeks, yes the 'reformers' as they fashion themselves want to do away with freedom of press."
"What? Why?"
"To protect the 'integrity' of the magical government."
"Ph, please! So they don't like journalists and reports to call them out on their shit, taking bribes and what not from the Sluts of Salem.
Arzit let out a hardy laugh. "Is that they call themselves these days?"
"No, that's just what I like to call them. But it's true! Show me a politician and I will show you a Sister of Salem in his or her bed!"
"I don't doubt it." Arzit took a sip from her tea. "How is that buddy of yours, Alejandro, is he better?"
"Yes, he's in much better spirits now, why? He didn't stop by when he came in?"
"No, probably forgot. I'll let it slide this time but be sure to remind him that he needs to check in with me."
"Okay, I will." Lujain stood from her seat. "It's been great chatting, but I have to get going."
"Of course."
Lujain turned and walked to the door as soon as she placed her hand on the doorknob she heard Arzit address her again.
"By the way, tell that pal of yours nice try but no."
Lujain froze, her heart began to race once more. "I-I don't what you are talking about."
"Child please, I am centuries old. Do you honestly think I'd miss a trick like that?"
"Um…"
Arzit brandished her wand and exposed Wyatt standing next to Lujain. "Also, you should probably cut down the cigarettes honey." She shot Wyatt a knowing smile. "Those things will kill you." She turned her attention to Lujain. "Dear, you never struck as the type to be smuggling in a boy. Handsome too…"
Lujain blushed furiously and Wyatt smiled quiet pleased with himself, he got more than just his father's brains, he also got his devilishly good looks.
"What's your name friend?" Arzit walked over to Wyatt instinctively adjusting his tie.
"Wyatt Belby ma'am."
"Belby?" Arzit examined him for a moment, where had she heard that name before…ah of course Belby was the surname of one of Marie's girls. Also the father of said girl was a very accomplished potioneer, Democles Belby, yes. He has become very famous over the years. "Would you happen to know anyone by the name of Democles Belby?"
"Yes, ma'am, he's my father."
"Ah, so that would make Ramona-"
"My twin sister."
"I see that good looks run in the family."
"Don't tell my sister that, she's vain enough as it is."
"Oh trust me boy, I know."
"If I may ask, how did you come to be acquainted by my sister?"
"Same way I became acquainted with you, Mr. Belby, she snuck in back when she was still a student at Metis Academy. It was a dare of some sort, tried to steal my Khat." Arzit pointed at her headdress.
"Really?"
"Yes, quite an attitude on that one. She has a temper of a dragon on a war path."
Wyatt let out a snort of laughter. "Try dueling her, she's quiet formidable. Although I can't help but wonder why she never told me about the existence of this place."
"Probably because I threatened to personally end her if she so much as uttered a word. And trust me, I have the best informants in the world, I'd find out in no time."
"Ah, and I assume the same rule would apply to me too?"
"You got that right kiddo."
"Fair…"
"You are only allowed to stay here until tomorrow, and you better keep that Disillusionment charm intact at all times." Arzit turned to Lujain. "Listen kid, I've been more than generous with you, stop bringing people down here! I told you that you were already on thin ice!"
"I didn't mean to! You said it yourself! This guy just snuck in, I told him to get lost but he ended up following-"
Arzit held up her hand halting Lujain's rant. "Listen, I don't care. I'm going to say this for the last time. If this happens again your ass is grass. And I don't mean a simple slap on the wrist like when you brought Aurora down here, I mean expulsion from the federation. The tribe elders are already furious with you and you're lucky that I'm covering up this incident, but I can't continue to lie for you kid. Can you understand that?" Lujain looked down at her shoes in shame, she knew that Arzit has done so much to protect her and she keeps botching it up.
"I'm sorry ma'am."
"You know I would hate to see you go, you are very talented and bright. I don't want anyone messing with that brain of yours. But it looks like it's going to head towards that route if this keeps happening."
"I understand."
"Good, now cast the Disillusionment charm and your boyfriend better be gone by tomorrow morning. Hell, I'll even give you an extra week on the surface if you'd like."
"What?"
"I know of that love affair you have with the sun, so just go spend another 7 days. Get your shit together then come back, alone."
Lujain wasn't sure why Arzit was being so generous, considering how she's broken a bunch of rules already, but if there was one thing she had learned in her young life was to never question a good thing.
"This is quite a place you got here." Wyatt undid the Disillusionment charm, kicked off his shoes and made himself comfortable on the couch. He shot Lujain his most alluring smile that usually made girls swoon but he got no such response from Lujain. Instead she looked like she had just eaten a lemon, her expression was as sour as his mother's when she was discontent with his father.
"What's wrong, love?" He as innocently.
"You almost got me fired." Lujain stated evenly.
"Oh come on, it wasn't that bad."
"Yeah, but imagine if it was 'that bad'. I would have lost my job and my memories to boot." She placed her hands on her hips. "You're the son of brilliant potioneer so this shouldn't be too hard for you to figure out, how much do you think I value my brain?"
Wyatt smiled amused, he was expecting her to yell at him but she did no such thing. Lujain's voice remained calm and docile. Making him feel guilty for placing her in this predicament, it would have been better if she just yelled at him. Aurora would have certainly yelled. "Probably more than your life, I'd say."
"Exactly, and what do you think would have happened if they Obliviated me?"
"Lose your memory, probably have long lasting side effects that will compromise the functions of your brain."
"In the words of my friend Alejandro, no bueno!"
"Why focus on what could have been, when you can focus on what is now! Look you still have your job and you can stay an extra week out on the surface!"
Lujain sighed. "Listen, come tomorrow morning you and I are leaving the city. In the meantime don't do anything that will draw attention."
"Yes, okay no problem."
Lujain nodded satisfied that he will no long give her any more trouble. With a lazy wave of her wand the tea pot that was stored in the cabinet flew out and placed itself under the sink where the tap began to run filling it.
"Tea?"
"Yes please."
The teapot placed itself on the stove where a flame sprang to life underneath it.
"Now, since you are here with me for the next 24 hours," Lujain moved and made herself comfortable next to Wyatt. "Tell me about yourself."
"What would you like to know?"
"Everything!"
"Everything?"
"Yes, everything. Start with your birth!"
"Er-okay, well" He cleared his throat. "I was born in Scotland in a castle near the sea."
"Really?"
"Yes, the estate belongs to my mother's family, not sure if you're familiar with the Darrows but that's my mum's family."
"Interesting, did you grow up in Scotland?"
"Yes, however in more recent years my father acquired property in England so we currently reside there now. But nothing can beat Darrows Castle! It's magnificent! It stands on a cliff overlooking the sea. My sister Ramona and I used to ride our horses along the beach."
"Do you only have one sister?"
"No, I have another sister. Eisley, she's more agreeable than Ramona." Wyatt cackled, oh sweet kind Eisley, she was the complete opposite of her older siblings. Where Ramona would stamp her foot and stand her ground Eisley would nod and comply, where Wyatt would get over exuberant she would just smile in felicity. Finally a child that would never test their good mother's nerves. It was probably their fault the poor woman began to go grey in the first place.
He remembers the day she was born quite vividly. He was in his second year at Hogwarts and it was a warm May afternoon, he was sitting by the lake writing an easy for old Minerva when Ramona tapped him on the shoulder to inform him that they have a new sister now. It was a bit surreal at first until they were allowed to leave the school for the day to see the little tyke. She was so small! With little tuffs of blonde her sitting on her head. Even Ramona who wasn't impressed by anything was enchanted by her.
Their mother let them do the honor of naming her, Wyatt originally thought that Nunnally was a good name for her but Ramona let him know exactly what she thought of the name with a 'yuck' and suggested the name Delaney and he scuffed 'that's an unfortunate name! Do you want people to pick on the poor kid?!' A half an hour of arguing and they were able to agree on the name Eisley.
"Eisley." Lujain said slowly. "That's a beautiful name. How old is she?"
"12."
"Aw that's cute. There's quiet an age gap between you two isn't there?"
"Yes, I guess my parents didn't like the thought of being empty nesters since Ramona and I attended a boarding school. What about you? Do you have any siblings?"
"Yes, just a younger sister. Her name is Selah, she's 3 years younger than I am."
"Lujain and Selah." Wyatt nodded in approval. "Beautiful names."
"Oh stop."
"No I mean it. So where were you born?"
"I was born in Beirut, Lebanon. My sister, however, was born in Istanbul."
"You're Lebanese?"
"Yes, well half. My mother is Lebanese and my father is Turkish."
"Interesting background. I take that you've done a lot of traveling between the two countries."
"Yes, visiting family mostly. We moved to the United States when I was 11. When I was very young my father got a student visa to study in the United States."
"Really? What did he study?"
"He went into aeronautical engineering."
Wyatt shot her a quizzical, what the hell is aeronautical engineering? Lujain took this as a sign that he had no idea what she was talking about.
"Astronautical engineering," she began slowly. "Is a field of engineering that has to do with the development of aircrafts that operate outside of the earth's atmosphere. It's a branch of aerospace engineering."
"So like what? Satellites and rockets and what not?"
"Yeah, my father works for NASA actually. It was the reason why we moved here.
"Why did he pursue a Muggle career?"
"Isn't obvious? My dad is a Muggle."
"Is he really?"
"Yes. My mother is a witch and my sister and I inherited our magic from her."
"What is your sister doing? Is she studying alchemy like you?"
"Selah? Oh no." Lujain smiled shaking her head. "She's actually attending a Muggle university, she wants to follow in our father's footsteps. Ever since we were children she's dreamt of nothing other than working for NASA. I'm certain she has the signature blue spacesuit hidden somewhere." Lujain started laughing at the mere thought of her sister dressed in one of those. "She's such a dork, I swear! But I love her all the same."
Wyatt watched her, highly amused, Lujain was even more charming when she laughed. He didn't miss the sparkle in her eyes when she spoke of her family, especially when she spoke of her father. It was obvious that she venerates the man, he sounds like a very impressive person, considering his line of work. He's a NASA employee! Wyatt could only imagine the type of projects this man was involved in.
"Is your sister studying astronautical engineering like your father?"
"No, she's studying nuclear engineering with a concentration in physics."
Wyatt let out a low whistle. "Quite impressive relations you've got there, and I'm assuming that your mother is some master potioneer or something?"
"Close," Lujain giggled "My mother actually runs her own apothecary shop, family tradition. Enough about my kindred," she waved dismissively. "Tell me about yours!"
"I thought I already did."
"You're the son of the much celebrated Democles Belby, the man who invented Wolfsbane potion. What must that be like being related to someone so…accomplished?"
Wyatt shot her a devilish smirk. "Oh sweet heart, I'm sure you understand what that's like. We both have very impressive relations, so I'm sure you can agree that it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes."
Lujain opened her mouth to retort when she smelt something burning. "Shit!" She jumped off the couch and ran to the kitchen. "I forgot the tea!"
Wyatt let out a hearty laugh. "Bravo." He applauded her mockingly following her into the kitchen. "The alchemist who burnt water."
Lujain glared up at him but immediately softened her expression once she saw that goofy smile on his face. She shook her head and smile back, he was right. She was an alchemist not a chef.
