Note: A CHARACTER IS GENDER-SWAPPED IN THIS STORY.

KAGUYA KUWABARA

Now, imagine Kazuma Kuwabara having been born as a girl, but his life as a female resembled the life we already know it to be in the series.

COULD THIS BE A HIEI X KUWABARA ROMANCE STORY?

We think it's a perfect recipe for one.

The story picks up where Yoshihiro Togashi left off at the end of Volume 19 in the manga.

Synopsis:

After the dangerous cult members tried to destroy the world, Team Urameshi tries to moves onto better things... Meanwhile, Kuwabara and Hiei come to a better understanding of each other.

"How can I decide what's right?

When you're clouding up my mind
I can't win your losing fight
All the time
Nor could I ever own what's mine
When you're always taking sides
But you won't take away my pride

No, not this time
Not this time

How did we get here
When I used to know you so well?
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

The truth is hiding in your eyes
And it's hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood
But you think that I can't see
What kind of man that you are
If you're a man at all
Well, I will figure this one out

On my own
(I'm screaming, I love you so)
On my own
(But my thoughts you can't decode)

How did we get here?
When I used to know you so well?
Yeah, how did we get here?
Well, I think I know

Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves

Yeah, yeah

How did we get here
When I used to know you so well? Yeah
How did we get here
When I used to know you so well?

I think I know
I think I know

There is something I see in you
It might kill me, I want it to be true..."

THE STRAY CHILD

Kuwabara smiled as she watched as her friends Kurama, Botan, and Yukina walked into her apartment.

Kurama and Botan both assisted Yukina by helping her lug in her belongings.

"Need any help?" Kaguya offered.

"No, we've got it." Botan assured.

"The room is to your right, by the way." Kuwabara instructed as she lead them toward the room.

After setting down her bags inside her new room itself, Yukina smiled and embraced Kaguya rather warmly, albeit being an ice apparition she always felt chilly to the touch. The hug was brief but genuine.

Kaguya had mirrored her actions.

"I'm so glad to be here, Kaguya." Yukina expressed.

"I am, too, Yukina-san." Kaguya responded truthfully. "Say, are any of you hungry?"

"Mmm, a little." Yukina answered.

Kurama looked at Kuwabara after moving the luggage to a sensible location, then looked her up and down, eying her as he read her thoroughly.

Kaguya blinked at him. "Is there something the matter?" She swallowed, feeling cold sweats as she became nervous.

"Kuwabara... You're metamorphosing."

Kaguya blinked, having not expected that comment from him. "Metamorphosing?"

"What I mean is that you're changing, transforming, from what I can gather... Into what I have no clue, but you're going through a transitioning, like a rebirth, a form of awakening. That is what I came here to tell you." Kurama explained to her in a rather sympathetic tone of voice. "I went through your records kept on file at Spirit World, and what I could find in regards to your current predicament is that you're going through a transitioning in regards to a form of awakening that I'm left clueless about. Odd as it may sound, most of your records I could not locate at all, in fact, the only information I could gather up about you is this current life that you're experiencing now in your waking hours, ...all of your other records have gone missing, which is truly bizarre I must say. I don't know what else to tell you in the slightest bit. I'm sorry. It is truly peculiar I must admit, though, that this is the conundrum you're in. Why those who run Spirit World would dispose of or hide your information from prying eyes I have yet to figure out the reasons, but... I also discovered that the records concerning your early childhood are likewise missing. I could find nothing about your birth or your parentage. Uncannily, the only records I could find on file concerning your life only goes back as far to that date where you had met both Hiei and I when all four of us had fought against The Four Saint Beasts."

Kaguya sighed in annoyance. "So, I'll never learn who my actual father is. Thanks."

"I'm afraid not, at least not for now." Kurama responded. "Kuwabara, I don't know who would go so far as to hide your records, but this sort of outlandish behavior is rather disconcerting coming from The Official Over Lord of Spirit World. Sadly, as to why he would go so far as to dispose of your files I am left at a quandary for I have no answers to give to you as to what his reasons are, but I do find it all to be far too unsettling. It doesn't feel right, in fact, it isn't."

"I myself couldn't find anything either." Botan spoke up. "If it's any consolation, I went to Lord Koenma himself in regards towards the matter and he refused to cooperate. In all my days, I haven't received such backlash for trying to help a friend before until that moment. I mean, I found out from Kurama about your circumstances concerning about the man who had adopted you, but I cannot see why that could be the reason why your files are missing when the files on the other demons Mr. Kuwabara had kept for trafficking are kept fully intact and not hidden at all in the slightest. I'm with Kurama on this, something strange is going on."

Yukina covered her mouth in a response to shock, then her eyes shifted about as they shined, watering up from both sadness and dread.

"Well, the old man bestowed upon me before his passing that my mother was a wolf demon." Kuwabara informed Botan.

"Be that it may, I wouldn't rely on your late adoptive father's information in regards towards your case if I were you." Kurama advised. "Even though he was heavily involved in trafficking of other worldly creatures, in short, all of this seems far too suspicious."

The bedroom door had made a groaning noise just then.

Everyone in the room turned their eyes immediately toward that precise direction.

Standing in the doorway was none other than Hiei himself.
