Chapter Ten: The Amazon Problem - Queen's Ludi

Beta: ShadowofAxios

The Amazons' coliseum where the duel between Pyrrha and Tabitha was to be fought was a scaled down replica of the famous Flavian Amphitheater at its height during the Roman Empire. The only difference was that unlike the original, the Amazons' version was underground. Not that the Amazons' needed to seat fifty thousand, that their coliseum could seat a thousand was more than enough as evidenced by the plenty of empty seats that Pyrrha saw as she walked out into the arena. Though thoughts about the venue quickly fled her mind as she took her spot on the sand across from Tabitha.

"You're not wearing the Belt of Hippolyta?" Pyrrha noted with a cocked eyebrow as she eyed her opponent up and down even as she drew her labrys and wand from Akoúo̱ (Listen)'s hammerspace. "Isn't that the badge of office of the Queen of the Amazons?"

"I don't need it." Tabitha declared cockily as she idly swung the head of her flail. Her medieval weapon clashing immensely with the gleaming, clearly magical, hoplite armor she was wearing. "All it does is enhance my strength. What need would I have for that? As a daughter of Bia, I can already do that and to a far greater extent than the Belt ever could. It is just a fancy accessory for me. It's why I rarely wear it, much less use it."

"Explains why I don't think I've ever seen you with it." Pyrrha whispered under her breath before raising her voice and continuing at a normal volume. "Isn't it, like I said, the official badge of the Queen of the Amazons? How can you even call yourself their queen if you don't think wearing it is worth it?"

Tabitha shrugged. "I wear it on formal occasions, like mundane monarchs do with their crowns. I don't need it for anything else. Much less to prove myself as queen."

"We'll see about that."

"Yes, we will." Tabitha agreed before turning to the coliseum's equivalent of the actual Colosseum's Imperial box and Hylla, who as her chief advisor was serving as the event's officiant. "Start the match!"

Hylla nodded and turned to look at Pyrrha questioningly.

The daughter of Ares was busy exchanging a look with her 'Kaidy who sat beside the Latina Amazon. One that was at once conspiratorial and reassuring. But as she noticed Hylla's look, Pyrrha nodded in reply. She was ready to kick Tabitha's ass.

Hylla nodded back before turning to the expectant crowd of spectators filled with both Amazons and their slaves, before raising her voice to address them.

"My fellow Amazons, my sisters," she said before turning to nod at 'Kaidy. "And honored guests," Upon receiving an acknowledging nod from Pyrrha's wife, she returned her attention to the crowd. "We are gathered here to observe this formal duel between Tabitha, Queen of the Amazons and daughter of Bia and Pyrrha Branwen-Potter, Diplomat of Olympus and daughter of Ares. I will not bore you with any details beyond that, we Amazons are beyond such trivialities. Let the match begin! May the best warrior win!"

Hylla had barely finished speaking before Tabitha threw the mace head of her flail at Pyrrha, using her powers as the daughter of the goddess of forces to transform it into something more akin to a lightning bolt in terms of speed than a simple throw.

Sadly for her, it wasn't a lightning bolt and Pyrrha had plenty of time to spin on her heel and Apparate out of the way. Thus the throw merely slammed into the ground, where it proceeded to impact with enough force to throw up a massive dust cloud and create an impressive crater.

"Silence," Pyrrha incanted, casting the spell she'd learned from her wife specifically to counter Tabitha the moment she rematerialized.

Looking distracted by wondering how she'd missed and blinded by the dust cloud her attack had thrown up, Tabitha didn't even seem to notice as the curse settled on her and sealed off her supernatural abilities. Sadly, unlike Alkaid, she couldn't fully duplicate the spell's effects and had to suffer through continuing to hear Tabitha's grating voice.

"Stop hiding in the dust, you coward!" The Queen of the Amazons shouted indignantly. "Are you a daughter of Ares or not? Come and face me like a proper warrior!"

"A proper warrior knows how to fight smart," Pyrrha retorted as she shifted her labrys into its rarely used spear shape. With her wand in her left hand, she couldn't use her labrys, a two-handed weapon, as effectively as she normally would and whilst her spear was also a two-handed weapon, it was a much more manageable one when used one handed. And she needed her wand. If for no other reason than to renew the Silence spell on Tabitha should it fade.

"A proper warrior doesn't need to!" Tabitha countered as she threw the head of her flail at Pyrrha, somehow having discerned her position.

The daughter of Ares could've teleported away with Apparition, but didn't. Instead, she used another spell.

"Protego," the witch incanted as with a flick of her wand, she conjured an invisible barrier that briefly flashed silver as it deflected the strike.

"That- How?" Tabitha murmured in surprise as she frowned at the sight.

Pyrrha didn't let her opponent's distraction go to waste and charged her, firing off a Blasting Curse from her wand as she did. The fiery orange beam of the spell hurtling towards her snapped Tabitha out of her daze and she threw herself out of its way, narrowly avoiding the powerful blast it created upon impact with the ground where she'd been standing. An explosion that had the crowd erupting in excited cheers.

Though I'm not sure whether that's because of how flashy it is or because it almost hit Tabitha. Considering how hated she is generally, it could quite likely be the latter.

Speaking of the Queen of the Amazons, she rolled with her landing and was back on her feet in seconds whereupon she promptly turned to face Pyrrha once more.

"You've cursed me. Locked away my powers." She accused Pyrrha even as she hurled her flail at her.

Not wanting to take chances with getting hit by the heavy mace head, the force behind it supplemented or not, Pyrrha snapped her wand in its direction and cast another Shield Charm, deflecting it in a burst of silver light. This slowed her advance somewhat but she continued to close on Tabitha, fully intent to beat the shit out of the psycho at close quarters.

"Yup, I did." Pyrrha confessed easily. There was no reason to lie about something so obvious and which everybody had already figured out.

"Well, it won't help you!" Tabitha declared defiantly as she began swinging her flail around her such that the fast spinning mace prevented Pyrrha from closing the last few feet and into the range she wanted, at least not without risking a painful blow.

I could deflect it with another Shield Charm. Pyrrha concluded. But let's not become a one trick pony.

"Expelliarmus!" Pyrrha incanted, sending a scarlet beam shooting from her wand that slammed into the spinning flail. The Disarming Charm worked just as its name suggested it would and with a shocked gasp, the weapon abruptly flew out of Tabitha's hands.

"T-That isn't enough!" Tabitha shouted angrily as she pulled a mace out of what must have been a magical bag at her waist. "None of your petty magic tricks will be! I will kill you and claim Alkaid Potter for my own!"

Pyrrha broke out into a laugh even as Tabitha charged her, doing for her what she had been trying to do the whole fight and closing the distance between them. Something that had the crowd erupting once more in excited cheers. It seemed that like Pyrrha, they wanted to see this fight get upfront and personal.

"Even if you manage that and you won't," Pyrrha replied even as she stabbed out with her spear at Tabitha only for the Amazon to spin around her thrust and get within her guard.

"'Kaidy is stronger than both of us." The daughter of war pointed out as she fired off a Knockback Jinx at Tabitha, the red beam of which struck home and sent the Amazon Queen flying back. "She'd sooner kill you than let you 'claim' her and that isn't even taking into account what our daughters or the House of Hades will do to you."

To her credit, Tabitha recovered well. Once more rolling with the landing of her latest impromptu flight, she was back on her feet in seconds and once more pressing the attack.

"That is not a problem! I will find a way around Alkaid Potter's magic!" Tabitha insisted as she jumped up into the air in an attempt to bring her mace down on Pyrrha in a powerful overhead strike.

"Like you're doing with mine?" Pyrrha asked with a raised eyebrow as she used the Shield Charm to deflect Tabitha's attack, sending the Amazon flying back in a flash of silver as she impacted the otherwise invisible barrier the spell conjured.

"I will!" Tabitha ranted as she recovered from her latest tumble and ran towards Pyrrha again, her mace raised to deliver a powerful blow.

This is boring. Father's voice suddenly filled Pyrrha's mind. A voice that was accompanied by the mental smell, as it were, of alcohol. Great. Tabitha has no way around your magic without her powers. She can't muster up enough force to break even your Shield Charms and that doesn't even take into account the other spells you can use against her.

I know. Pyrrha agreed. That's the point. The Amazons fear Tabitha for her strength. If we want to dethrone her permanently, we need to shatter that fear. We need to teach them how to beat her. Otherwise, even if I beat her today and we appoint a new queen, it's only a matter of time before Tabitha regains the Belt by beating whoever we do.

Yes, I know. It is a plan worthy of your wife. Father said as Pyrrha once more tried to stab Tabitha with her spear, only for the Amazon to evade the thrust and slip into her guard. Only for the witch to once more hit her with a spell, this time a Disarming Charm and send her flying, with her mace falling out of her hand as she did. But you have done what you set out to do already, daughter. This has dragged on long enough to have become boring. Finish this!

As her Father finished speaking, Pyrrha suddenly found herself surrounded by a blood red aura and her body flooded with supernatural strength. A sight that had Tabitha looking at her warily even as she drew a new mace from her magical bag and the spectating crowd gasped.

Father, you granted me your blessing? Pyrrha asked, sharing in the audience's surprise.

I never liked Tabitha. Father replied gruffly before quickly adding. Now finish her!

His order dripped with bloodthirstiness and Pyrrha almost succumbed to it. She would have if she was younger. But ever since the traumatic events of her trip to the Fae Court of Titania and Oberon, since she'd come to realize what her dedication to the more bloody aspects of her Father's nature had cost her, she'd worked hard on her self-control. And it took everything she'd learned to tamp down on the urge to spill Tabitha's blood that now flooded her veins. As satisfying as gutting the psycho bint was, it wasn't the plan and would likely cause more trouble than it was worth. They didn't need disgruntled Amazons loyal to her causing trouble.

That didn't mean she didn't make use of Father's blessing though. Tapping into it, she launched herself toward Tabitha, a move that had the spot she had stepped off from exploding in reaction to the sheer amount of force she'd created.

Her speed was such that Tabitha didn't have time to register that she was in danger before Pyrrha was already landing on top of her and her spear was plunging itself through her stomach. Said landing also shattered the ground beneath them, even as the daughter of war's spear pinned her opponent like an insect on a corkboard within the center of said crater.

Wow! That was a lot more strength than I wanted to use. Pyrrha thought with a frown even as she pulled her spear out of Tabitha, who was remarkably still conscious. Though the way the hoplite armor she was wearing seemed to lose its shine, probably explained why. Thank the gods whatever magic Tabitha's armor has absorbed most of the force.

"C-Cheater!" Tabitha said as she spat blood at Pyrrha's face. "R-Relying on a g-god's blessing to b-beat me? P-Pathetic!"

Pyrrha shrugged. "I didn't need to. I was winning quite soundly before Father stepped in, but he was getting bored and decided it was time I beat the shit out of you. This is his way of incentivizing me to do it, I guess."

"I-It changes n-nothing!" Tabitha said, still defiant as she struggled to her feet. "I-I will s-still be-beat you!"

Pyrrha just looked at Tabitha like she was stupid. The blonde had a hole through her gut, was bleeding out and was still insisting she could somehow win!?

"Okay, whatever." Pyrrha said with a sigh. "Let's see how long it takes before you inevitably yield shall we?"

"N-Ne-"

Pyrrha didn't bother to let Tabitha finish her latest defiant statement, instead opting to use the Mobilicorpus spell to pick the Amazon up and begin tossing her around like a rag doll, slamming her into the ground and the walls of the arena repeatedly.

"You done?" Pyrrha asked boredly as released the spell after a good minute or two.

"I c-can sti-still fi-"

Pyrrha just shot a look at Hylla, who shook her head. Right, these duels could only end if one person either yielded or died.

This might take a while.

Just kill her already. Father suggested, his words causing a surge of supernatural bloodthirstiness to surge through Pyrrha's mind. One she once more struggled against and only barely contained. Your wife can adapt her plans to account for Tabitha's death.

Oh, just be patient, Father. Pyrrha replied with a sigh as she swung her spear in wide arcs in the direction of Tabitha and channeling a little of her magic through the water element gem socketed into it, unleashed the Tidal Slash spell which in turn conjured cutting waves that slammed into the unsteady Amazon. The waves cut deep, sending gallons of blood flying, and it was only Pyrrha's precise control that stopped them from amputating Tabitha's limbs completely. They nevertheless managed to paralyze them and send her toppling to the ground.

"Still want to keep going?" Pyrrha asked as she cautiously advanced on Tabitha, casting a new Silence curse on her just in case.

Tabitha growled in anger and struggled to move her limbs, but they just twitched in response.

"I-I yield!" The Amazon shouted through gritted teeth.

Her concession was met with joyous cheers from the spectators.

"And with that the duel is decided!" Hylla declared, shouting over the raucous crowd. "And with it, by the right of conquest, we have a new Queen of the Amazons! All hail Queen Pyrrha!"

"All hail!" The crowd echoed, though Pyrrha ignored them as she continued walking towards Tabitha whilst conversing telepathically with her father.

You did well, daughter. Father said even as Pyrrha pulled a bottle of Ambrosia milkshake out of Akoúo̱'s hammerspace. Tabitha didn't look happy accepting her help, but nevertheless opened her mouth and let the daughter of war pour the milkshake containing the food of the gods within down her throat. I am impressed by how you resisted the bloodlust I tried to force on you. For that, I think you deserve a reward.

A reward? Pyrrha thought as she blinked in surprise.

Father just sent her a mental smirk before the blood red aura that still surrounded her suddenly shot into the air in front of her where it proceeded to coalesce into a blood red diamond. One that Pyrrha caught in her hand as it finished forming and began to fall to the ground.

Tabitha, down in the dirt, could only stare at the blood red diamond in Pyrrha's hand in disbelief. Fingers curling into the ground, the blonde tried to rise, but as powerful as Ambrosia was, it needed time to work a miracle and she only managed to struggle into a sitting position.

"A spoil? For a duel!?" The former queen muttered.

Gently tossing the diamond in the air, the redhead looked at it with a bloodthirsty grin. "Thank you for the gift, Father. I can't wait to socket it into my weapon. You really know what to give a girl."

The true daughter of Ares turned to leave. Yet, her ears picked up the snarl, the bitterness in Tabitha's voice as she shouted in her direction.

"Don't you turn your back on me!" The daughter of Bia cried out, fist punching the ground. "We will fight again! And again, until I win! I won't lose!"

"Divine Shooter."

Tabitha's head lurched back, a sphere of emerald magic blowing it back and knocking out the humiliated and defeated Amazon.

"What a sore loser." 'Kaidy huffed, as she teleported to Pyrrha's side and laced her arms around one of the daughter of war's own. "Come on, dear, let's get you cleaned up. I have to inspect you for injuries."

Oh that was going to be a fun time. At least she was already sweaty.

After a rather lengthy inspection from her lovely wife in their quarters, and an equally thorough cleaning, the couple finally left their suite. As much as they wanted to spend more time together celebrating the long awaited and much deserved beatdown Pyrrha had delivered to Tabitha, they had a plan to enact.

And much to Alkaid's expectation and satisfaction, as they opened their suite's door, they were met by Hylla and a group of Amazons waiting for them. All of whom bowed and took a knee in reverence of their new queen.

"What's this about?" Pyrrha asked with a grunt of genuine annoyance, Things might be going according to plan, but Alkaid knew full well that her wife disliked this part of it in particular.

"Queen Pyrrha, for defeating Tabitha in single combat, you now are in charge of the Amazons. We have already drafted several ideas for your consi-"

"Pfft!" Pyrrha scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Please, I've already got a queen."

The redhead pulled Alkaid flush against her, stealing her lips and locking them into a deep, heavy kiss for all her temporary minions to witness.

Okay, this isn't part of the plan. But I like this improvisation. Alkaid thought as she melted into the kiss. Improv more, Py~!

"That is no problem at all!" One of the younger Amazons said, face pink. "As your consort, Lady Alkaid is naturally more than welcome within the Amazon Nation."

"Hm, no way." The daughter of war dismissed. "I like my life as is. Becoming an Amazon sounds like a pain, much less being queen."

"Que-Lady Pyrrha." Hylla quickly corrected herself at the stern look the redhead gave her. "Without a Queen, we cannot change our stance in the Titanomachy. That is to say, without one, you cannot carry out the original mission you and your wife came here to achieve."

"Yeah? So, you're gonna blackmail me into becoming your queen? Be your queen and you'll give me my own army for the war or something?"

"To be frank? Yes."

Hmm… Does Hylla really want Pyrrha as queen? Or is this an act? Alkaid pondered as she looked at the Latina curiously. Not that it matters either way. The plan should deal with either option. Speaking of the plan, I think it's time to implement the next step.

Calling on her all her acting ability, Alkaid let out a put upon sigh and wrapped her arms around Pyrrha before speaking up on her behalf. "If that's the case, mayhaps a compromise is in order?"

"And what would that be, Lady Alkaid?" Hylla asked, looking slyly curious.

Has she caught on to what we intend? Or is she just jumping on the opportunity?

Alkaid honestly didn't know Hylla well enough to be sure which was the more likely option. She however tended to favor the former. Either way though, it spoke well of Hylla's ability as a politician and their choice of her as the frontrunner for the next Queen of the Amazons.

Setting aside her ponderings on Hylla for later, Alkaid offered the Amazons a sly smile and offered the compromise she'd promised. "Simple, my lovely wife will act as a queen for now, but only so she can pick a proper and reliable successor."

Once more, they had gathered the Amazons in their underground coliseum. This time though, Pyrrha wasn't down in the arena but instead seated in the Royal box, which was what the Amazons called their version of the Imperial box apparently, with 'Kaidy and a small group of Amazon guards. She wished the latter weren't there but since she was their queen, at least for now, it couldn't be helped.

"Everyone is gathered like you ordered, your majesty." One of the Amazons said and Pyrrha nodded before letting out a tired sigh.

She knew this was all part of the plan and all, but this whole queen thing was exhausting! She was so going to make 'Kaidy pay her back for all the hard work she put in for the sake of her plan.

With her mind full of happy thoughts about what she'd make her wife do for her to repay all her hard work, Pyrrha stood and walked to the front of the box so she could address the assembled Amazons. Most were seated in the stands of the amphitheater but about two dozen or so were standing in the arena below.

"Okay, I'm not one for fancy words. That's more my wife's thing." Pyrrha began, shooting her 'Kaidy a playful wink that had the daughter of Hades rolling her eyes. "So I'll just get right to it. We all know why we're here: to have a tournament to decide who gets to be your next queen. But until that's done, I'm your queen. And I want to use that power."

As expected, the gathered Amazons began murmuring at that. She had promised she wouldn't exercise her power beyond helping to select her successor after all.

"That's not what you promised!" Tabitha, now healed thanks to ample use of Ambrosia, shouted from down in the arena.

"Tough breaks." Pyrrha said with a shrug. "I'm queen ain't I? By right of conquest and all that? Well, that means I make the rules don't I? Regardless of whatever I did or didn't promise?"

The murmuring among the Amazons increased to a fever pitch and Pyrrha was just starting to get nervous when Hylla spoke up from her spot in the arena.

"Queen Pyrrha is correct. By right of conquest, she is our queen and her word is law."

The Amazons' chattering died down but quite a few of them still looked unhappy.

Maybe they think we're going to free all their slaves or something radical like that. Pyrrha mused. The thought had indeed crossed her mind, but she didn't need to check in with Alkaid to know it was a bad idea. They simply couldn't afford the risk of the Amazons descending into civil war like the United States had over slavery during the American Civil War.

Thankfully, what she intended was, hopefully, a lot less controversial.

Well, let's see if what I have to say will change things, shall we?

"Good. Now that that's settled, here's my decree. By my authority as Queen of the Amazons, I hereby exile Tabitha from the Amazon Nation. She's toxic and should not be allowed to poison the Amazons with her presence."

Much to her satisfaction, Pyrrha's declaration was met with cheers. It seemed she and Alkaid were right, Tabitha really was hated by most of her sisters. Though not all of them.

"You can't do that!"

"That's an abuse of power!"

These and a dozen variants thereof were shouted by Tabitha's supporters.

"Didn't you hear what Hylla said?" Pyrrha asked these dissidents. "My word is law."

This just inflamed Tabitha's lackeys even more.

"You are no queen of ours!"

"Tear down the false queen!"

Oh, they're pulling out weapons. So scary~! Pyrrha thought with a roll of her eyes even as behind her she could already sense Alkaid priming her magic. Come on and out yourself, you idiots. It'll just make the job of hunting you down easier.

Her wife didn't get a chance to use her magic however. As like a bolt from the blue, an unexpected voice spoke up to defuse the situation.

"Enough!" Tabitha shouted, shocking everyone. "I accept my exile."

Everyone turned to look at the blonde in disbelief.

"I know when I am beaten." She said with a shrug as she turned to leave. "And whatever else, I am an Amazon. I will not see my sisters kill each other on my account. But know this, Pyrrha Branwen! I will have my revenge! You will rue the day you became my enemy!"

"We'll see about that." Pyrrha shot back with a smirk.

Tabitha shot Pyrrha one last glare before turning and marching out of the coliseum and the Amazon Nation.

The daughter of Ares waited until she was out of sight before picking up where she'd left off.

"Okay, now onto the main show!" She said, ignoring how a number of Tabitha's supporters moved to join their leader. That wasn't her problem. The next Queen of the Amazons could handle it. "Time for the tournament to pick your next queen!"

This announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from the Amazons who remained.

"Combatants, get into your positions!" Pyrrha ordered as she looked down at the Amazons in the arena, who proceeded to scramble into the various marked out rings spread out across the sand for the first round of the tournament.

She waited for everyone to be paired up before continuing. "Fight!"

At her order, the tournament commenced and the crowd erupted into rapturous cheers.

"I yield." Pyrrha said theatrically as she offered a smile to Hylla as they stood across from each other on the stage of the Amazons' Throne Room in a mock duel.

As much as everyone understood what was going on, the forms still needed to be followed. It wasn't the first time one of their queens wanted to hand over the Belt to someone but their successor couldn't or wouldn't defeat them. Amazon Queens could only be succeeded by losing a trial by combat, hence the farce of a duel. It was apparently something the Amazons had come up with to deal with situations like this.

"And I accept your surrender." Hylla, the winner of the tournament to pick Pyrrha's successor, said with a smile as she sheathed her drawn sword.

"And with that the duel is decided!" Alkaid declared formally as she stepped forward. "And with it, by the right of conquest, we have a new Queen of the Amazons! All hail Queen Hylla!"

"All hail!" The gathered Amazons chorused.

"Congratulations, Hylla." Pyrrha said with a genuine smile as she helped secure the Belt of Hippolyta, the Amazon Queen's badge of office, around Hylla's waist. "You'll be a great queen."

"We can't do worse than Tabitha." Hylla replied with a smile. "Thank you for removing her and helping me gain the Belt."

"Can't take credit for the latter. You won that tournament fair and square." Pyrrha told her honestly.

Hylla just nodded and offered her a disbelieving smile.

Great! Now she thinks we set her up as queen. How are we going to get her to realize she earned it fair and square? Pyrrha thought, shooting her wife a pleading look.

For her part, Alkaid just shrugged.

Just run with it!? Really!? The daughter of war thought in disbelief as she read her wife's non verbal reply. They'd been together long enough that they could have simple conversations like this by reading each other's body language alone.

Even as they had this non-verbal discussion though, Hylla had stepped to the front of the stage and began addressing her Amazon sisters.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank my predecessor and sister, Pyrrha. I swear upon this girdle that I will honor this position properly! That I will fulfill my duties as queen with all the diligence due to the position and as expected of me by my subjects."

The Amazons cheered. A cheer worthy of the warrioress' they were. A mighty roar that was accompanied by the stamping of their feet. A cheer loud enough to shake the earth.

"And, to live up to my promise, as my first act as queen, I declare that we, the Amazon Nation, side with Olympus in the Second Titanomachy! Let us honor our gods and goddesses! Let us be the blade to their foes and show why the Amazons are to be feared!"

The cheer that erupted in response to her declaration of war was thunderous enough that Pyrrha swore it could be heard all the way up on both Mount Olympus and Mount Othrys.

Done and done! Thanks to Nameless and Axios as always!

And so, the lady wife of Fair Alkaid and her deranged stalker finally meet in an honorable battle. Really, it was a blast to think up. Silence really turned Tabitha into a lesser foe with how reliant on her powers she is. Yet she still is a good fighter. She'd have to be. Of course the ending was hilarious to us with how Pyrrha literally Yeeted the Girdle to Hylla. Priceless.

Nameless: So we decided not to cover the Queen Selection Tournament™, hope you guys don't mind. We honestly thought about writing it out but decided that doing so would just be padding. The only potential recurring character involved is Hylla, and we've no plans for her to return anytime soon at this moment, so writing it out would've just been needless. Hence, why we skipped it. Besides, with all the foreshadowing and with canon as a guide, did anyone not realize Hylla was gonna win?
