Billy and Mandy's Digital Chronicles Chapter 5

Just as a heads up. Sperg's Digimon is BlackAgumon/Agumon (Black). But since I have BlackGatomon, I feel it might be confusing having two Digimon with Black in their name, so I'm just gonna refer to BlackAgumon as Agumon from now on so it doesn't make any potential confusion, it's just up to you to remember that it's the black variation.

Though to be fair, it's colour will eventually not matter. You'll see.

The train sped across the open fields, carrying the gang, to their next destination. A small town that's twelve miles away, with not many leads other than Billy must have taken the previous train, and they are behind him, by hopefully a few hours given what Andromon had said.

Mandy had kept herself to the train's engine room, watching the scenery go by from the front windows. Staring intently forward, hoping to see any trace of another train. So far no such luck. She sighed as she rubbed her eyes slightly due to staring intently for so long, they had been travelling for six hours, at least according to the clock on her Digivice, which she learned about by herself once she found out that Pud'n was using the Digimon scanner back at the factory, motivating her to give the Digivice a try.

Mandy soon looked behind her to see BlackGatomon was sleeping on the chair in the corner, she had been sleeping there since they left. She huffed quietly again, still feeling annoyed to be forced to be partnered with an annoying cat, even if she did help her against Andromon. She turned back around to look out the front window to spot anything out of the ordinary.

"S-S…"

Mandy looked back over to BlackGatomon; she could see her twitching as she slept and mumbling very quietly.

"Sss…"

Mandy tilted her head slightly; she became curious what BlackGatomon could be dreaming about. So carefully she walked up to her, while trying to make as little noise as she could. Once she was close enough, she kneeled down slightly and tilted her head to keep her ear close to BlackGatomon, she also slowed down her breathing to listen easier.

"S-S… Sis…"

'Sis?' Mandy thought. 'As in… sister…?'

"Sis… Sis…" BlackGatomon continued to mumble quietly. She sounded distressed, as if she was having a nightmare. "No… sis…" BlackGatomon continued to twitch more violently, making a kick on the back of the chair that pushed her a few inches forward and inches from falling off the chair.

Given that BlackGatomon had helped her out, from the Diatrymon, to Aquilamon and even Andromon, even if she could take care of them herself, she at least knew that BlackGatomon was in turmoil. A part of her just wanted to ignore her, but another part of her wanted to help, in a way, it was kinda like Billy, how when he did something stupid, she would always bail him out, whether she wanted to or not, Mandy felt inclined to wake her up from her nightmare, but she also didn't want to give the impression she cared. So, an alternative came to mind.

Mandy stood up properly, and grabbed BlackGatomon by the scruff of her neck forcefully and lifted her up. The force of it caused her to wake up in a surprise, snorting slightly. "Huh!? What!?"

Mandy stared at the somewhat disoriented BlackGatomon in the eye. "My legs are tired; I want that chair." Mandy then dropped BlackGatomon on the ground which she landed on her feet perfectly. Mandy then grabbed the chair and moved it to the front of the train and sat on it while looking out the window.

"Whatever." BlackGatomon mumbled quietly as she walked up to the door, opened it, and went into the first carriage. Mandy looked behind her seeing BlackGatomon leaving and closing the door behind her. Mandy simply sighed quietly as she looked forward.

Both carriages have the exact same designs. On the right side, is a series of tables with long chairs for people to sit and watch the view, and the tables for placing anything on them like food or devices, etc. But on the right side is a series of bunkbeds five total, and each bed is big enough to fit two people, so ten people can sleep in one carriage. And finally, in the back corner to the right is a bathroom stall.

The first carriage has Pud'n, Gazimon, Sperg and Agumon. Pud'n had his shoes off and was lying on one of the bunk beds, he looked over to Gazimon who sat on all fours on top of one of the tables, watching the scenery go by, occasionally his tail wagged gently, implying there were things he saw that did seem to excite him, though no one could see what it was.

Sperg was on a different chair playing games on his cell phone, while calling people didn't seem to work, games and other apps seem to work just fine, which was good as they didn't have much in the way of activities while they wait to arrive at their destination. Agumon was fast asleep on the top bunk of a different chair, snoring away while drooling on the pillow.

Mindy and Aruraumon weren't here, they were in the second carriage. Mindy made it exceptionally clear that she wanted her space from everyone else, especially Mandy and to not bother her until they arrive at their destination.

Pud'n, Gazimon and Sperg notice BlackGatomon walking in and jumping onto one of the spare beds, she stretched for a moment, made puddings on the blanket before making a few circles and curling up to go to sleep.

Sperg ignored this and goes back to his phone. "C'mon high score." He grumbled quietly. He was playing a rhythm game that required pressing the buttons at the right time to the music. Thankfully the music on his phone wasn't loud enough to bother the others.

Pud'n and Gazimon looked over to BlackGatomon, before turning back to what they were doing. Soon Pud'n gave a quiet sigh as he got off the bed and sat on the chair connected to the table Gazimon sat on.

Gazimon turned to him. "Something on your mind, Pud'n?" he asked calmly, now that they were in much safer environment, Gazimon felt calmer and more open.

"Yeah, while we were at that factory, I recall you having levels and virus thingies. Could you tell me more about them, please?"

Gazimon turned to Pud'n. "Sure. So, every Digimon has a Level and Attribute. There are six levels and three attributes. With levels… there's Fresh, In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate and Mega. And for Attributes, there's Vaccine, Data and Virus."

Pud'n nods. "I remember when I scanned that Andromon, it said he was an Ultimate Level?"

Gazimon nods. "Yeah. Fresh and In-Training are the infant stages of Digimon. Rookies, like me, Agumon, Aruraumon and BlackGatomon are what you would call the young adult stages."

"Do these levels only work with age?" asked Pud'n.

"Yes and no. You see, Digimon don't necessarily grow older, they mature. Fresh and In-Training will eventually Digivolve into Rookie Levels, but they could spend the rest of their lives without ever Digivolving further."

"So… what are the last three levels?"

"Champion is what Aruraumon became, there they become much stronger, but Ultimate is much, MUCH stronger, and you can probably guess what Mega is. But each Level becomes much harder to get to the further you go."

Pud'n nods. "So, you were once a Fresh or In-Training Digimon, who then Digivolved into what you are now."

"Yep. Though I've never Digivolved into a Champion before, and no one in my pack ever Digivolved either yet either."

"So do you think you'll ever Digivolve like Aruraumon?"

"Hope so, I'd like the extra power, but we need to figure out how it was even done."

Pud'n had his suspicion on how it worked but kept silent for now. "So, what about these Attribute thingies?"

"Plain and simple, they part of our data that gives us advantages and disadvantages. Vaccine is stronger than Virus, Virus is stronger than Data, and Data is stronger than Vaccine."

"So, like Rock, Paper, Scissors?"

"What's that?"

"A game, Rock beats Scissors, Scissors beats Paper, Paper beats Rock."

Gazimon thinks for a moment, then speaks up. "Yeah, that's pretty accurate."

Pud'n shrugs a bit. "So… if Andromon was an Ultimate Level, and a Vaccine, that was why you struggled so much since most of you are Viruses?"

Gazimon nods. "Yeah, Aruraumon was a Data, and became a stronger Data when she Digivolved into Kiwimon, so it gave her an edge, but honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that Andromon was being controlled by another Champion, we wouldn't have stood a chance, even if Kiwimon had the Attribute Advantage, the power difference between Levels is usually night and day. So, we should consider ourselves lucky we got off easy like that."

Pud'n soon looked out the window. "Yeah, in my hometown, we've gone through so many dangers. Pandora's Box was just one of many dangers that persisted in my hometown, but… I think this Digital World may be way more dangerous than what I've been through so far. So, I'm lucky to have you."

Gazimon was startled slightly by the surprise compliment but shrugged it off. "T-Thanks." He then turned back to looking out the window. "Anything else you wanna know?"

"I think that's it." He then proceeded to look out the window too, watching the scenery go by.

In the second carriage, which mirrored the first carriage exactly, Mindy and Aruraumon were on their own, but instead of relaxing, the two were looking at each other intently, while standing approximately six feet from each other. Mindy held her Digivice tightly as she bends her legs slightly.

"Alright. Let's try again." Said Mindy, she then moved her Digivice closer to Aruraumon and tried to focus.

Aruraumon flexed slightly as she began to focus intently. "Aruraumon… Digivolve to!" she began to focus even harder than before, but there was no trace of a golden or red light from either Aruraumon or Mindy's Digivice. Soon Aruraumon falls onto her backside feeling exhausted. She looked up at Mindy who sighed and slumped slightly. "Mindy? Can we take a break? We've been at this for three hours now."

"Yeah, we'll have to try and figure this out another time." Aruraumon gets up and climbs onto one of the beds while Mindy sits on one of the chairs. "I just don't get it, we did it before, why can't we do it now?"

Aruraumon sighed a bit, trying to get her energy back. "Well… we know it happened because you tried to protect me…"

"And… I did it because you were in danger, and really hurt… maybe… maybe we can only do it if we're in danger?"

"I don't know…" Aruraumon yawns a bit. "I… could use a nap, sorry."

"Yeah, alright." Mindy huffs quietly, feeling a bit annoyed but understood, she was feeling a bit tired herself. Mindy looked back up to Aruraumon to see she was already sleeping. She sighed a bit and just went to look out the window for a little bit, seeing the scenery go by, and then went to looking at her Digivice and began to fiddle with it more.

Mindy knew that the Digivice had a scanner function, a map function, and a date/time system while also telling the weather. As she was fiddling with it, she unintentionally brought up a new holographic screen. This screen had a blank list, a keyboard, and a code on the top right showing her name above it.

"What's this?" mumbled Mindy. She pondered for a moment, but then she realised it was a contacts list. "Oh, we can use this instead of our cell phones."

Without hesitation, she got off the chair and made her way to the first carriage. As she opened the door, she saw Sperg on his phone, Agumon sleeping on one of the tops of the bunkbeds, Pud'n and Gazimon looking out the window, and BlackGatomon sleeping on the bottom bunk of another bed. As she entered, Sperg, Pud'n and Gazimon turned to see her.

Mindy spoke up using her typical spoiled princess attitude. "Alright, listen up losers. Thanks to my flawless brilliance, I just discovered our Digivices have a contact list, so we can communicate with each other without the need of our cell phones."

"Oh, that's good, in case we get separated." Said Pud'n as he took out his Digivice.

"So how do we do it?" asked Sperg as he put his phone down and took out his Digivice.

As Mindy was giving the instructions, Mandy was back in the front of the train looking out front, but her attention was soon diverted to the monitor below making a beeping noise. On the monitor, it shown the track and the fields and trees around it, in the same blue styled map the Digivices do, but there was a red dot on the tracks with a text box saying, 'Potential blockade on tracks, the train will stop soon.'

Mandy looked forward through the window and saw that there was indeed something on the tracks, but it was so far away she couldn't make it out, but she began to feel the train starting to slow down on its own. Mandy let out a frustrated sigh, she would've rather not have any delays, but she knows that when Billy is involved, she never gets anything her way.

As the train slowed more, she could see what was blocking the tracks, to her surprise, it was a pile of gigantic rocks, how they got there didn't seem possible as there were no mountains near the tracks. Soon the train came to a complete halt just twenty feet from the pile of rocks. Mandy let out a sigh as she was about to make her way to the door, but before it could reach for it, it already opened revealing Pud'n.

"Uh, Mandy, why did we stop?"

"Blockage." Mandy tilted her head towards the window. Showing the pile of rocks. "We're gonna have to clear them before we can go forward."

Pud'n looked at the rocks and turned back to Mandy. "Oh boy. Anyway, we learned how to add people to contacts with our Digivices, so we should do it in case we get separated."

"Whatever." Mandy takes out her Digivice and Pud'n quickly teaches her how.

After Mandy got Pud'n, Mindy and Sperg into her contacts list and vice-versa, the gang got out of the train and made their way towards the pile of rocks. Mandy and BlackGatomon were at the front looking at the rocks, these rocks looked about six feet tall and wide, and were about ten or twelve of them all piled up on the tracks, from Mandy's analysis, the tracks looked a bit bend and cracked, which implied that the rocks fell onto the tracks from a considerable distance.

As Mandy turned back to the Digimon, she notices BlackGatomon looking up at her with her usual annoying smug face, Agumon walking out of the train with a pillow in his mouth, Gazimon looked normal as usual, but Aruraumon wasn't there at all.

Mandy turned to Mindy. "Where's your Plant?"

"Her name is Aruraumon, and she's sleeping right now!" Said Mindy, taking offense at Mandy's comment.

"Well get her, we need the Digimon to move these rocks!"

"You want us to move them!?" asked Gazimon. "They're gigantic!"

"You're the one with the powers, we saw how you fought against Andromon."

"Yeah, and we were losing, badly." Said Gazimon, with the faintest sound of growling.

BlackGatomon walked up to the rocks and looked at it for a moment, then looked at her claws and then did a quick swipe at the rocks, which barely left a scratch. She then walked back to Mandy. "No good, I won't be able to break these."

Mandy huffs as she turned to Mindy. "Get your damn plant, she's the one that can do that transforming thing."

"Yeah, but she can't right now! We've been practising to do it for hours now and she can't!" said Mindy.

"So, your usefulness was just a fluke? Big surprise there!"

"Hey! If you think it's so easy, then why don't you and your stupid cat do it then!?"

Mandy turns to BlackGatomon and stares at her, there was a silence between the two. "Well?" Mandy asks.

BlackGatomon smugly shrugs. "Hey, I don't know how it works either."

Mandy huffs. "So, what do we do now, then?"

Everyone looks around to see if there's anything they can use. Mindy looks to her right and points forward. "There!" Everyone looks to see where Mindy is pointing to, and there thy can see smoke in the distance, as well as a tall windmill, it looked like a small town of sorts.

"A town? Perfect." Said Mandy, she then turned to the others. "Ok, one of us should stay and guard the train while we're gone, just in case."

Mindy nods. "I'll stay, Aruraumon needs her rest anyway."

Gazimon ponders for a moment and looks at Pud'n. "We should probably stay behind too, just in case Aruraumon can't activate her Digivolution."

Pud'n nods. "I'd like to visit the town, but we need the train too, we'll stay."

Mandy soon starts to walk off. "Ok, Sperg, come on." BlackGatomon followed behind.

"Whatever, let's go Agumon." Sperg walks off, Agumon then coughs out the pillow he was chewing on and followed Sperg.

Pud'n picks up the damp pillow and looks at it with disgust. "Hopefully we can get a washing machine installed."

"Agreed." Said Mindy.

It took roughly fifteen minutes to walk to the town they saw, it was surrounded by an twelve-foot stone wall, likely to protect from intruders from any side besides the front, which had two centaur-like Digimon guarding the entrance.

"Welcome to Autumn Village." Said one of the centaurs. "Please behave yourselves while you're here."

Mandy nods as she enters. Sperg takes out his Digivice to activate the scanner.

- Centarumon, Champion Level, Animal Type, Data Attribute. -

- Its body is protected by a hard substance secreted onto the surface from its insides, and its right arm has fused to become one with its weapon. The ducts extending from its back spout high-pressure vapor, allowing it to move at near-sonic speed, though only for an instant. It has outstanding defence, attack, and speed. It's Special Attack is Solar Ray which launches from the cannon on it's right arm. -

Once they entered, they saw that the town looked like something out of an old village from the early 1900s, stone brick houses, some roofs had either tiling or straw, there looked to have been no technology here at all, there were some buildings being constructed, and it was all done by hand, there was a tall windmill that moved slowly and a massive well in the centre of the village.

But what got Mandy's surprise the most, was that this town had both Digimon, and humans. In fact, there were just as many humans as there were Digimon, she recalled the Syakomon they met earlier today mentioning they saw humans as well, but she assumed they meant the other kids like Billy, Sperg, Junior and Irwin.

The humans ranged from kids to adults, and all of them seemed fairly well, the kids were playing various old-fashioned games like hopscotch, hide and seek, etc, while the adults worked in farms, constructions, and shops. All of them had Digimon partners too, and each of them looked very diverse in shapes, sizes and humanoid and animal-like, some even robot-like or blob-like. Despite the old-fashioned like village, the clothes the humans wore ranged from two decades ago to present day.

As Mandy, Sperg and their Digimon walked through the village on the old stone pathway, the humans and Digimon living here took notice of them but didn't seem interested as they quickly went back to what they were doing. Either way, Mandy felt the need to speak up, so she made her way to the nearest person.

This person was a mid-fifties man sitting on a park bench reading a newspaper, he wore a blue cotton shirt, light brown shorts, and boat shoes, he also wore a fishing hat with several hooks on them. And next to him on the park bench was a large green caterpillar with large green antenna, eight stubby feet with purple spikes, and a purple zig-zagged mouth that opens sideways. This caterpillar was eating a large croissant-like food.

Sperg took out his Digivice to scan the Digimon next to the fisherman.

- Wormmon, Rookie Level, Larva Type, No Attribute. -

- It has a timid, cowardly personality. It's a descendant of an ancient species, so it is able to perform special Armor Digivolutions, but since Wormmon is powerless when by itself, it can't possibly match up to larger Digimon. It's Special Attack is Sticky Net, which spits out the threads of a tough, adhesive net, completely restricting the opponent's movements. -

"Hey old man." Said Mandy. Getting the man's attention.

The man turned to Mandy with a raised eyebrow. "Can I help you kid?" Wormmon slowly crawled backwards trying to hide.

"We're looking for a strong Digimon capable of destroying rocks. Know any?"

The old man shrugs a bit. "The Drimogemon in Drill Tunnel might be of assistance, but why do you need rocks breaking?"

"There's some blocking the train tracks and our train can't move."

The old man raised an eyebrow at her. "A train? You kids came here by train?"

Mandy nods. "Yeah. Is that strange?"

"Yeah, no one runs any trains except for employees at Columbus Incorporated."

"Columbus Incorporated?" asked Mandy, tilting her head slightly.

"It's the biggest company in the entire Digital World." Said BlackGatomon. "They've provided technology, roads, buildings, electricity, everything to make the lives of humans and Digimon much better."

The old man nods. "Your cat-friend is correct. But they only provide the best for humans and Digimon if you can actually afford to live in one of their many cities." He shrugs a bit as he turns a page in his newspaper. "But that life isn't for an old fart like me, I'd rather stay in this quaint little town. It works better for me and Wormmon here too."

They notice Wormmon nodding. "Too much noise and the air is bad."

"Hm…" Mandy recalls the Syakomon mentioning about an organisation that polluted their sea, it could be this, but she wasn't sure. And even then, she hardly cared. "So, we need to find this Drill Tunnel and find these Drimogemon to help, do you know where it is?"

The old man shrugs again. "Beats me, I'm just a fisherman. But I know a buncha Drimogemon come by and deliver some rocks, bricks, clay, and other stuff. I'd say ask anyone at the construction site." He then points his thumb to the building being constructed.

Mandy nods. "Thanks." She and BlackGatomon walk off towards the builders.

Sperg stays behind and looks at Wormmon. "So… you're a fisherman and your partner is a worm?"

"He's not bait if that's what you're asking." Said the old man raising an eyebrow at him. Sperg and Agumon look at each other, then walk off.

As Mandy was walking forward, BlackGatomon spoke up as she walked next to Mandy. "So, surprised to see other humans in the Digital World?"

"No, those clam things told us."

"Hm, well it's been happening for years. Humans just stumble upon this world… never to return."

Mandy's eyes opened slightly, she stopped and turned to BlackGatomon. "Never to return?"

BlackGatomon nods. "Yep. I've seen hundreds of humans to arrive here and never finding a way out."

Mandy froze for a second, then she crossed her arms. Realising that it's all well and good if they find Billy and Pandora's Box, but how to get home was something she never thought about until now. There was Grim who could open portals, but he never came with them to the camp, and he would have no idea where they were, or even cared. Soon Mandy made a realisation. The mummy-like man they fought must also be a Digimon given his weird powers and knowing how to get into the Digital World, in addition to his train he used to bring them all in.

"There might be a way, that mummy man who brought us here must know a way out, he used a train to do so."

BlackGatomon nods smugly. "And what did that fisherman say?"

"That the only ones who uses trains are Columbus Employees."

"Exactly."

"So, in other words, our target should be to find the headquarters of the company." Mandy soon gives BlackGatomon a scowl. "That is assuming that mummy is even part of that company."

BlackGatomon shrugs. "Well, we don't have any other leads."

"I suppose so…" Mandy turned to Sperg and Agumon who just caught up with her. "That mummy guy who stole Pandora's Box and brought us here might be working for that Columbus Company that old man mentioned."

"Oh cool!" Sperg punches his fists together. "So now we have a target!"

Mandy nods. "While I go and negotiate with the construction crew, you go ask around for any info on this company, preferably where their main headquarters are."

Sperg pouts. "Argh, I hate learning."

"Me too, I prefer eating." Said Agumon pouting.

"Just do it!"

"Awwww!" Sperg and Agumon said in unison as they both walk off pouting.

Mandy then looks at BlackGatomon. "You. Follow them and make sure they don't cause trouble."

"So, you really need my help then?" BlackGatomon said smugly.

"Just do it!" BlackGatomon shrugs again and walks off, following Sperg and Agumon. "Frickin cats." She grumbled.

As Sperg and Agumon walked to find someone to ask about Columbus Incorporated. BlackGatomon's ears twitched violently for a second as she turned to the right, then strayed off from the two without them noticing, and made her way to the big well in the centre of the village, she jumped onto it and looked down intently.

The well was completely dried up, and the bottom can't be seen, there was a ladder going down, but the well was sealed off by a square grate to prevent anyone from falling in, but the gaps were big enough for her to squeeze through if she wanted to.

BlackGatomon's ears and whiskers began to twitch violently again, she then stared down the well intently, her smirk soon turned into a big toothy grin.

"Oh… goody…"

Soon she was distracted by the feeling of a tiny hand brushing against her back, she jumped slightly and turned to see a very young girl petting her back. "Super soft kitty." She spoke softly with a sweet smile, but soon a Tentomon flew in and gently took her other hand.

"Mary. Please don't touch other people's Digimon." Said the Tentomon as he and the girl walked off.

BlackGatomon scratched the back of her ear with her back paw once she left, and then she poked her head through the grate gap to look further down. But before she could do anything else, she felt a large metal claw grab and pick her up, she jumped again and looked to see another Centarumon picking her up.

"Ma'am, I'm afraid the well is off limits until further notice. Please make your way back to your partner."

The Centarumon gently put her down and patted her backside to make her walk away, which she did. As she made her way towards where Sperg and Agumon went, she looked around to see more Centarumon patrolling, as well as plenty of people and Digimon who could notice her. She huffed slightly, but she soon smiled, coming up with a devious idea.

Sperg and Agumon were talking to a mid-forties woman outside a pottery shop, and next to her was a Gaomon. The woman was busy polishing one of her pots while the Gaomon was trying to make one using a pottery wheel.

"Columbus Incorporated?" the woman asked.

"Yup, do you know where their biggest building is?" asked Sperg.

"I'm afraid I don't know. We don't get anyone from there often, I think it was years since we got anyone."

"Darn… do you know anyone who-"

SMASH!

Sperg, Agumon, the woman and Gaomon all looked over to see BlackGatomon was on a table with a lot of pots and one of them was on the ground smashed to pieces.

"W-What are you doing!?" shouted Sperg.

"I wanted to see if it would bounce… it didn't." BlackGatomon then turned to the other vase. "Maybe this one?" She pushed it off with her paw, Agumon leapt to try and catch the other pot but misses badly and that pot smashes to pieces too.

Sperg angrily marches up to BlackGatomon and grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and takes her off the table. He turns to the woman and notices her furious expression, and her Gaomon looked ready to throw hands, though not before patting the clay off his gloves.

"Is that cat with you!?" the woman asked angrily.

"Uhhh… she's… a partner to a friend of mine so…"

The woman than grabs Sperg's ear. "Both of those were worth a thousand Digi-Bits each! I trust you can pay for those damages!?"

"Ow! I don't even know what Digi-Bits are!"

"Oh really!?" The woman turns her head to the left. "GUARDS!"

Soon two Centarumon ran up to them. "What's the problem ma'am?"

"This young boy and his Digimon destroyed two of my vases and can't pay for the damages!"

"I see, you leave this to us, we'll ensure you're compensated." The Centarumon then walked up to Sperg, as the woman lets go, the two Centarumon place their hands on Sperg and Agumon's shoulders. "Lad, you're going to escort us to the other Digimon's partner." Sperg grumbled as he and Agumon walked with the Centarumon, while BlackGatomon was still being carried by Sperg.

"To think we're supposed to be defending this town and we're dealing with some kid vandal." Said one of the Centarumon.

The other responded. "Jobs a job, besides, barely anything happens in this town to begin with, so this'll be far more interesting than just patrolling."

"I guess."

Meanwhile, Mandy was speaking to a mid-thirties man with a big bushy black beard, he was alongside a Gammamon, both of them were busy constructing a new house alongside a small crew but he stopped to speak to Mandy about the Drimogemon.

Mandy responds. "So, the Drimogemon can help us clear the tracks for free?"

The man nods. "That's right, they'll be over in about two hours I'd say. I can talk to them for you."

The Gammamon then nudges the man on the leg with a smug look. "If you can remember that is."

"Oh, come on." The man responds. "My memory isn't that bad."

"You couldn't remember what you had for breakfast."

"One time!" The two chuckle a bit before looking back to Mandy who rolled her eyes at them.

"By the way." Mandy spoke up. "I'm also looking for a boy my age."

The man chuckled. "Well, I have a son, but I doubt you'd be his type."

Mandy blushed a felt a bit stunned. "What!? No! I mean someone I know! He has a red cap, a white shirt and has a big pink nose, seen anyone like him?"

The man chuckles a bit as he shakes his head. "Sorry, no one like that came here."

"I figured as much."

"So come to think of it, I noticed your Digimon isn't with you."

Mandy shrugs. "I just let her do her own thing. I-"

She soon noticed Sperg carrying BlackGatomon, Agumon and two Centarumon walking towards them, though soon four more arrived from the left. The man and Gammamon walked away to get back to work.

"Young lady? Is this your partner?" one of the Centarumon asked.

Mandy sighed. "What did she do?"

"Broke two vases and now we owe the lady two thousand Digi-Bits." Said Sperg with a very annoyed voice, he then dropped BlackGatomon which she landed on her feet just fine.

Mandy had a surprised look but turned to anger as she looked down at her. "What the hell were you thinking!?"

BlackGatomon shrugged. "I thought they could bounce."

One of the Centarumon spoke up again. "I'm afraid you are prohibited from leaving until you can pay back. We'll escort you to some odd jobs."

Mandy raised an eyebrow. "And if we refuse?"

"You'll face jailtime, and if you resist, we may have to use force."

Mandy growled angrily as she turned to BlackGatomon who was just grooming herself, she didn't want to waste any time doing pointless tasks, especially since it wasn't even her fault, but she'd rather not get into unnecessary fights this time since they need the Drimogemon's help. She then sighed. "Can I call for some assistance, to help with the odd jobs?"

Centarumon nods. "That seems fair."

Mandy got her Digivice out and opened the contact list to message Mindy and Pud'n.

Twenty minutes later, Pud'n and Gazimon arrived to assist, Mindy was informed but she made an excuse to guard the train, in reality, she just didn't want to help Mandy, but her excuse works regardless.

Mandy, BlackGatomon, Sperg, Agumon, Pud'n and Gazimon were made to split up and were escorted by two Centarumon each to various locations to earn money.

Sperg was taken to a chicken farm, which took him by surprise realising that ordinary animals have also been brought into the Digital World, though he was more baffled by the woman who owns the chicken farm to be allergic to chickens, though her father runs the farm but he's sick, so Sperg is made to do all the tasks. And while Sperg was doing fine for the most part, some of the chickens were quite violent to him and he even got chased by a few, going around in circles for three minutes. With the woman and the two Centarumon just watching.

"Betcha five Bits the orange one gets him first."

"Deal."

Pud'n was taken to a blacksmith's shop, where Pud'n was met with the owner who looked like a stereotypical dwarf from Dungeons and Dragons, short, red beard with a braided moustache and spoke in the thickest Scottish accent. Thankfully Pud'n didn't have to do much other than polish the weapons since it wouldn't be right for him to handle hot metal, but the temperature was really high, so Pud'n had to have his jumper off. The two Centarumon who were supposed to watch him kept outside due to the heat and lack of space.

Gazimon was taken to the graveyard where he's been asked to assist the grave keeper to help dig up holes for coffins, and even some holes for planting flowers, the grave keeper simply cleaned up the holes and planted the flowers when the smaller holes were ready. There was a point however where they looked away for a moment only to discover Gazimon was gone, but the moment the two Centarumon were about to look around, one of them suddenly fell in a pitfall Gazimon made, he soon popped out of another hole with a cheeky grin.

"Sorry, all work and no paly, you get me?" Gazimon said.

"And you're gonna have to fill that hole back up you made!" said the Centarumon as he was pulling the other one out of the hole.

"Worth it."

Agumon was taken to the Doctor's office to test various experimental medicines, he drank one that turned his scales pink for a few seconds, one that gave him a curly moustache before it simply dropped off, and one that turned him into ToyAgumon for five seconds. Ten more tests have passed since then.

"Can we stop soon?" asked a distressed Agumon. "This is not doing well for my everything."

"No, no, no." said the doctor with a wide creepy smile. "We've got twenty more to go."

The two Centarumon were watching this from the window.

"We should probably report this to the chief."

"Or at least check his medical license."

"We should do both."

"Both is good."

Mandy was seen at the windmill, where she was helping to clean up the floor from excess straw, dust and dirt using a broom. It was boring, but easy to do, but she imagined smacking BlackGatomon with this broom a lot for what she did, regardless she did everything it took to keep her anger in check, she didn't want to cause any more trouble than necessary, she just kept sweeping as much as she could. Barely paying attention to the Centarumon watching her from the windows.

"Hey kid?" Mandy turned to see one of the workers from a higher ledge, he tossed her a small loaf of bread which she caught easily. "In case you're hungry."

"Thanks." She said bluntly as she began to sweep again while eating the bread.

BlackGatomon was taken to a large house that looked fairly higher class but still old looking like the rest of the buildings. She was placed by the front door and one of the Centarumon escorting her took a key out and opened the door.

"Alright, this house belongs to a retired politician who's out on vacation. But we heard that some rodents have been spotted here, your task is to clear them out before he returns home."

BlackGatomon nods as she walks in and closes the door. The Centarumon then proceeded to look through the windows to see BlackGatomon looking around before making her way through another door. The two Centarumon continued to look intently, but little did either of them realise that BlackGatomon had snuck out the back and ran from the house, making her way to the centre of town.

Unlike last time, BlackGatomon made her way to one of the rooftops of a house right next to the big well, and lowered herself down enough so she would be more difficult to see while she stared intently at the well, waiting for the opportunity. Her eyes squinted, her backside raised slightly and wiggled from side to side, readying to pounce, but with so many people wondering around, she would be too easy to spot if she reacted.

Luckily, she got her opportunity, her eyes darted to the right to see Sperg screaming and running from an army of chickens, with the two Centarumon giving chase, soon everyone began to watch this comical madness, and it gave her the perfect opportunity.

BlackGatomon leapt up high and divebombed towards the well, she kept her arms and legs as close to her as possibly as she slipped through the grate flawlessly, then done several loops before landing on her feet as she landed on the bottom.

At the bottom, it was a long dry tunnel, stone bricks took up the entire walls, floor and ceiling, and there was a faint light near the end of the tunnel. BlackGatomon smirked as her whiskers and ears flicked around violently for a few seconds, so she began to walk slowly and deliberately, her shoulder blades going upward, she moved like a big cat stalking its prey. As she moved closer and closer, her eyes dilated, her ears slowly bent back, her mouth opened unveiling her fangs.

"Who goes there!?"

An ominous voice echoed throughout the tunnel, as a white mist began to emit ten feet in front of BlackGatomon. Her claws scratched the ground slightly as she smiled more.

"Who dares intrude on these haunted grounds!?"

Soon the mist formed into whitish ghost who had jagged teeth, and a black witch's hat concealing their eyes.

"Those who intrude on these grounds, will disappear forever!"

BlackGatomon spoke up finally. "Cut the crap, Soulmon! I know you're not from here either!"

"What!? How dare you-"

"You're one of Columbus' cronies!"

The Soulmon flinched as it looked at BlackGatomon intently. "You are mistaken! I have lived here for thousands of years! Dragging those who intrude to the darkest depths of insanity!"

"Is that what Axford Columbus told you to say?" asked BlackGatomon.

"What!? No, I was told to say what I wanted!" Soulmon soon realised what it said as it covered its mouth in shock.

"Knew it!" BlackGatomon wiggled slightly, readying to pounce. "You were sent here to spy on this village, to find the kids from Endsville! So, you can follow them and assassinate them!"

"How!? How did you know!?"

"Let's just say that I know more about that company than some crony would, and by the way, you were slacking off! The kids are already here!"

"WHAT!?" Soulmon growled angrily. "WAIT!? YOU!? You're one of the kids' partners!"

"Got that right! And you're not touching them!"

Soulmon's hands clasped together as fire began to erupt. "WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT!"

Soulmon fired a blue skull-shaped fireball towards BlackGatomon, who immediately jumped to the side, clinging onto the wall, Soulmon fired at her again only to dodge again. Soulmon continued to fire a bunch of fireballs at BlackGatomon who continued to dodge them effortlessly, jumping from wall to wall to floor to ceiling at a quick speed.

Soulmon unleashed an even bigger fireball which BlackGatomon jumped up onto the ceiling, then shot herself towards Soulmon like a rocket with her claws, then in a flash, BlackGatomon shot through Soulmon and landed on the ground effortlessly, Soulmon stood completely still until it began to split apart in multiple areas, then exploded in a pixelated blast leaving only the hat which floated down.

BlackGatomon walked up to the hat and picked it up, she dug into it and pulled out a receiver. She snickered a bit, cleared her throat and pressed the receiver.

"This is Soulmon, can you hear me?" BlackGatomon said trying to imitate Soulmon's voice.

"We hear you loud a clear, Soulmon. Do you have an update to provide on the location of the Endsville Kids and Autumn Village's uses?" said an unfamiliar voice.

BlackGatomon spoke up again, continuing to imitate Soulmon's voice. "Three of the Endsville Kids have been spotted and are making their way south to the forest, they have picked up supplies and have abandoned the train. Requesting an update to the mission."

"Continue to follow them, and when they're at their most vulnerable, kill them. As for the train, just leave it to rot, we don't need it. So, what about the possibility to convert Autumn Village?"

"It is far out in the middle of nowhere and the locals are deadest in their ways, there would only be a financial loss if we were to convert or demolish it, it's best to just ignore it."

"Understood. Do not fail in your mission to assassinate them."

"Got it. Have you discovered the location of any other kids? I can make my way to them once I've finished dealing with my current targets."

"Our sources indicate that one of them, the one referred to as Irwin has been spotted in a village by Bitrate Beach."

"Good, sending a request to let me handle this alone, I can sneak in and deal with him without a trace."

There was a bit of silence, BlackGatomon soon lost her smug look, realising she may have overstepped her boundary and blown her cover.

"Request granted, but you have a week to do so otherwise we'll send in our own troops to locate him."

"Got it. The kids are on their way, so I need to go."

"Understood."

The receiver went silent. BlackGatomon had a large toothy grin, feeling proud for diverting Columbus Incorporated and getting the location of another kid. But just in case, she stabbed the receiver with her claws and swiped to the side to tear it into pieces, she then picked up the hat and looked at it. As fun as it would be to wear it, look like a witch's cat, but she decided to just tear it up with her claws into tiny ribbons until it was indiscernible, that way if anyone would come down here, there would be little evidence.

"Good, better head back and do my job before they suspect anything."

Mandy was leaving the Windmill, her work had finished and earned herself a small bag of four-hundred Digi-Bits, not much but she hoped the others would've gotten enough to help. But she was also given a cloth bag full of bread rolls as a thank-you gift for her work, these bread rolls were in the shape of Guilmon's heads, at least according to the bakers, she didn't know what a Guilmon was.

As she was escorted by the Centarumon back to the pottery shop, she noticed Sperg, Agumon, Pud'n and Gazimon making their way to the pottery shop too, also escorted by two Centarumon each.

Sperg was covered in feathers but had a small basket of eggs and another small bag of Digi-Bits. Agumon was in a daze as both of his eyes were going all over the place and was drooling a rainbow-coloured saliva, the Centarumon had his bag of Digi-Bits. Pud'n had a bag of Digi-Bits too, and to their surprise, he had a large metal shield strapped on his left arm, though the shield looked almost as big as him. And Gazimon had a bag of Digi-Bits too, nothing extra.

Mandy took notice of Pud'n's shield. "Where'd you get that?"

"The blacksmith was nice enough to give it to me for free for my hard work."

"Not bad." Mandy digs into her cloth bag and takes out a loaf of bread in the shape of a dragon's head. "The guys at the windmill bought me some Guilmon Bread, at least that's what it's called. For my work."

Gazimon nods. "The people seem pretty generous, guess it wasn't too bad doing some extra work for them." He soon notices Agumon. "So, what happened to you?"

"i C4N sMeEe£eElLlL Th£e C0L0Uz!1!1!1!" he said frothing at the mouth as rainbow bubbles and drool came out of his mouth.

"We're gonna take the doctor in for questioning, but he did say it should only last for a couple hours... Hopefully." Said one of the Centarumon, as he hands Sperg Agumon's bag of Digi-Bits.

Soon they made their way to the Pottery Shop where they saw the woman and her Gaomon who looked at them intently.

"Here, we earned your money." Said Mandy as she handed the woman her bag, the others soon followed suit.

The woman took all the bags and started counting, she then looked at them with a scowl. "You're two-hundred short!"

Mandy tutted in frustration, but then she looked around. "Wait, where's that cat?"

Everyone looked around. "Yeah, she's not here." Said Sperg.

"She's probably still doing her job." Said one of the Centarumon.

Soon they noticed BlackGatomon walking up to them with two Centarumon. And one of the Centarumon had a small cage with a humanoid pink mouse Digimon in it, who crossed his arms in a pout. BlackGatomon took her bag of Digi-Bits and threw it to Mandy which she caught and handed it to the woman.

She looked into it. "There, that's it fully repaid." She turned to them. "Thanks, but please keep your partner out of trouble."

Mandy nodded as she walked up to BlackGatomon, grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and held onto her. "We'll likely not be coming back here, so you won't need to worry about her anymore."

One of the Centarumon speaks up. "Alright, now that that's done, you're free to go. Thanks for your contribution." He then turned to Sperg and Agumon. "And for the entertainment." He then turned to the other Centarumon. "Alright men, back to your stations."

They nod and soon all walk off in different directions. The Centarumon with the mouse then walked towards the prison area. "Come on Mr Chuumon, you can spend the night in prison."

"I have my rights to a home too, you know!"

"Yes but breaking into buildings is still illegal."

Mandy let out a sigh as she looked at BlackGatomon who kept her annoying smug look at she began to lick her paw. "Cause me any more crap like that and I'm turning you into a violin!"

Pud'n shrugs. "Still, we got some supplies. We got bread and eggs, and I got this cool shield, it might come in handy." He then turned to Gazimon. "What about you, did you get anything?"

Gazimon shrugs. "Nah, nothing much you can get in a graveyard, but I can say I enjoyed myself." He smirked a bit looking at the Centarumon he got into his pitfall, he looked back at him and gave the 'I'm watching you' gesture.

They soon turned to Agumon who was now lying on the ground, eyes continuing to spin and drooling rainbows. "What do we do with him?" Gazimon asked.

Before any of them could answer, they hear a voice calling out to them. "Hey kid!" They turn to see the construction worker and Gammamon Mandy spoke to earlier. "Been looking for ya, the Drimogemon arrived not too long ago and are already on their way to clear the rocks on the tracks."

Mandy nods. "Good, we'll be on our way now. Thanks." She turned to the others and tilted her head to the direction of the exit. "Let's go." The gang began to walk off, with Sperg grabbing Agumon by the legs and started dragging him.

The sun was starting to set, and the gang made it back to the train, and there they saw two giant purple and white mole-like creatures with drills for fingers and a massive drill for a nose, who were busy drilling through the rocks effortlessly. Mindy and Aruraumon were both seen just outside the train watching the Drimogemon do their jobs.

Once she noticed the others returning, Mindy had a smug look to her. "So, enjoy your menial labour?"

"We got shit out of it, you just lazed about doing nothing!" said Mandy, showing her bag of Guilmon bread. Sperg lifts his basket of eggs in the back showing off his gain.

"We didn't do nothing!" said Mindy. "We were practising Aruraumon's Digivolution."

"And can you do it normally now?"

"Well… no… but at least we are practising!"

Aruraumon nods. "Yep, besides, we can also report that nothing bad happened while you were gone."

Soon their conversation was disrupted by the two Drimogemon walking up to them, their massive size was somewhat intimidating, but they had a friendly smile to them.

"That's the rocks cleared up, and thankfully the tracks weren't too damaged, so you can get going now."

Mandy nods. "Good. I'm just curious how those rocks got here in the first place."

One of the Drimogemon points to the left, pointing to a massive volcano in the distance. "See that volcano over there? That erupted a few weeks ago and launched several rocks all over the area, thankfully the town wasn't affected."

"Huh… that explains…" Mandy's eyes soon widened slightly. "Wait… a few weeks ago?"

Drimogemon nods. "Yup. Oh, by the way, the sun's starting to set, I wouldn't recommend driving at night. Could be dangerous."

"That's alright, we have beds." Said Mindy. "We can sleep in the train."

"That's good. Welp, wherever you're going, hope it goes well." The Drimogemon soon walk away back towards town.

As the others begin discussing where to sleep and what to do with the untested medicine induced Agumon. Mandy kept silent as she watched the Drimogemon leave towards the village, she then turns to the volcano.

"A few weeks ago…? But Billy… left today…" she mumbled.

It was nighttime now. Mindy and Aruraumon shared a bunkbed in the second carriage, Mindy had the bottom bunk and Aruraumon had the top bunk. The others shared the first carriage, Sperg had the top bunk of the bed at the back, while Agumon had the bottom, but he was cocooned in his blanket to prevent falling out of bed, due to him still being ill from the medicines, Pud'n had the bottom bunk next to Sperg's while Gazimon had the top bunk, but he was still awake as he kept an eye and ear out for any potential intruders. Thankfully the doors and windows had locks, so it wasn't likely for a break-in, but Gazimon's habit of keeping watch at night was difficult to break.

Mandy was on the bottom bunk of the bed furthest away from the others, she wasn't asleep like the others, she was still confused by what the Drimogemon said.

'Billy was seen in the factory on the same day as us, then left by train before us, but if they had gone the same way we did, they would've been stopped by the roadblock. So, did they go the other direction? But Andromon said the trains only go one way, never the other, it's still possible he did… but if he did go our way, that meant he would've left before the rocks blocked the track. So… did Sperg see Billy? Or did Andromon see Billy? Are there two!? Just what the hell is going on!?'

Mandy soon sighed as she turned to her right to try and sleep. Starting to feel tired from the whole thing.

'Guess our only option is to go forward and hope we can find the answer… just… please be safe Billy…'

She slowly closed her eyes and tried to sleep. But little did she realise that BlackGatomon was watching her from the top bunk, watching intently. Soon Mandy's breathing slowed, she had fallen asleep, BlackGatomon then looked to see Gazimon had fallen asleep too, she jumped down onto the floor and walked towards the front of the train.

As she jumped onto the chair and looked at the monitor, she began to fiddle with it, and looked for the map function. The map appeared and she zoomed out as much as she could, she smiled, their first destination was the town Mandy originally set, it was labelled as Boardoth Town, but there are three branching tracks after, and the one to the left said Bitrate Beach.

BlackGatomon's toothy grin is shown again, as she sets the destination to both Boardoth Town, and Bitrate Beach.

"We're coming for you Irwin, whether Mandy wants it or not."

End of Chapter

I'm going to imagine a lot of Zelda fans recognised the parallels to this chapter and Ocarina of Time's Kakariko Village. I didn't intend for it at first, but it just sorta happened and I rolled with it, I was also gonna have another big battle, but I decided to keep it simple and just try to include a bit more story and comedy. Plus, sometimes it's good to have more simple and fun chapters rather than everything being intensive and battle heavy.

So anyway, you may notice some reviews for a Chapter 5 that doesn't make much sense. So, there was an update chapter I put that's been deleted since, it was basically asking if people would wanna see more cartoon crossovers or more original characters. The result was that to focus on just Billy and Mandy characters, though I was also suggested to include other human characters from the Digimon series.

Either way, I wanna thank you for the feedback on it and for enjoying this story so far. I promise that next chapter will be more interesting, I just kinda needed something simpler after the previous chapter being quite the behemoth.

Also, from now on when I do an update asking for suggestions, I'll leave it at the end of a current chapter instead of making the updates its own thing.
