Hello everyone. This story is going to be the one I'm focusing on from now on, the other stories will still get updates, just not as often as this one. This story is going to have an original story line, though there will still be some bits on Remnant. All the sci-fi stuff in this story is my own creation, so expect to be confused about a lot of things. You will get answers in the story. I will also be taking some liberties regarding some Semblances in this story. Feel free to suggest things you want to see, I'll try my best to fit them in. Other than that, enjoy the first chapter in the Pathfinder's story.

She was falling. Her entire body was in pain, and she knew that she was falling. How did it go so wrong? Why didn't it work? Her eyes should have killed Salem, so why didn't they work.

Ozpin. Ozpin didn't tell them the full truth. It had to be him. Or was it him? Maybe even he didn't know?

"SUMMER!" she heard Raven yell. But she was too tired to look at her.

If only she could see her girls again, she wanted to be back home with them. Why did she do this? Now Ruby would lose her mother.

"Ruby. I'm sorry baby." she said as she fell. The pain was gone now, but it was replaced with crippling regrets.

It takes but one difference to alter the course of fate. One small change in the right place can change someone's fate. And today, fate was changed.

A single blue portal is all it took. All that was needed to cause such a drastic change of fate.

But now, a new path must be walked. And the one who walks it, is The Pathfinder.

Her eyes slowly began to open, everything still hurt. Wait, she wasn't dead. Why wasn't she dead? And where was she?

Once she was able to, she looked around her environment. She realized that she was in a room. No, not a room, but a cell. Wait no, that's wrong, right? If she was alive, that had to mean that Salem captured her. But why was everything so pristine? It looked nothing like that gods-forsaken castle that Salem resided in. Was she in Atlas?

She was ripped from her thoughts when the door opened. And in walked, a Faunus. It looked like a cat Faunus, but she wasn't sure what type. Where was she?

"Your awake, good. I hope you have recovered well; your injuries were quite severe." the Faunus said to her.

"W-who are you? And where am I?"

"Ah right, apologies, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Doctor Zuhura, the chief medical officer." the Faunus, no Zuhura said. But that didn't answer the question as to where she was.

"And where am I?" she asked, more forcefully this time.

"You are currently o-" Zuhura was cut off by an explosion.

"General quarters General quarters, all hands to battle stations." an announcement rang over what seemed to be a PA system. General quarters meant that a ship was under attack, right? Then the Grimm were here.

"Where's my weapon? I can help with the attack."

"You won't be able to help. It would be better for you to stay here. The crew will handle this." was Zuhura's response. There was no way that a crew without Aura could fend off a Grimm attack. Not unless they were really good.

"I can he-"

"You will stay here, or I will strap you to that bed myself, do you understand?" Zuhura told her, with a surprising amount of forcefulness in her voice.

She decided that it would be better to listen. And so, she sat there, waiting.

30 minutes later the attack ended. It just stopped, no sound of Grimm running, no putting down Grimm that couldn't move. It just stopped.

What was going on? The entire time she never even felt the ship she was on, she thought it was a ship, move at all.

"Are you alright?" came Zuhura's voice from the doorway, she sounded worried.

"I'm fine, I just don't like being unable to help people."

"I can understand that, though I don't know what you could do against 4 destroyers."

Wait. Destroyers? Did she mean that they weren't fighting Grimm, but instead people? She hoped she didn't mean that.

"Enough of that, the captain wants to see you." Zuhura broke her from her thoughts. It would be a good idea to meet with the captain of this ship. Hopefully she could see about finding a way back home.

"I forgot to ask, silly me, but what's your name?"

"Summer Rose."

She wasn't on an Atlesian ship, that she knew for a fact. She had been on a couple over the years, but none looked like this. Atlas ships always had grandeur to them, they were designed to be practical, yet at the same time show-Boaty. This ship wasn't. It was sleek, like it had one purpose and was designed to do that purpose at maximum efficiency. Yet it also felt like a work of art, like it had turned it's purpose into an art.

Oh, and the signs, they had a language she could even BEGIN to understand on them, alongside Valean.

"You interested in Xenovian?" Zuhura asked.

"What's Xenovian?"

"It's the native language of the Xenovians, I have no idea how they speak it though. Never have and probably never will, damn language is confusing as hell."

Well, that explained some things. Not much, but at least she could put a name to the language. Now the real question came.

"How close are we?"

"We are almost at the bridge. Sorry it took so long, we would have met in the captain's quarters, but we need her on the bridge in case another attack happens." Zuhura responded. That would explain why it was taking so long. Somewhat.

Well then, time to prepare herself to meet with the captain. She hoped that they were better that the Atlesian ones she had met before.

Captain Ceren Meena was not having a great day. It started off pretty well, her ship was deployed alongside a fleet to take out a Red Star Battle-station. It went well, up until a FUCKING RIFT-HOLE APPEARED OUT OF BUM-FUCK NOWHERE AND TOOK HER AND THE STATION WITH IT.

Now here she was, on the run with pirates chasing her ship. The normally wouldn't be a problem, she is commanding a battleship after all. But a single battleship would be hard-pressed to fend off 400 attacking enemy ships and a fucking battle-station.

Then the day got even weirder. That strange blue portal appeared in the port hangar bay and dumped a bleeding woman onto her deck. Thankfully medical got her stabilized and up to full health quickly, from what Zuhura reported she recovered really fast. She would have met with their guest 30 minutes ago, but the Red Stars just had to send 4 destroyers after them. Those ships died pretty quick, but it did slow things down.

"Captain, Zuhura's here with our guest."

"Let them in, I'll talk to them."

"Right away sir."

So it begins. This was quite possibly first contact with humanity. Well, this convulsion's humanity. God this was getting confusing. Why couldn't she be a normal battleship captain who only had to worry about normal things?

Hearing the door open she turned to greet her guest. And by Carl she was beautiful. Now Ceren wasn't gay or anything, but she could damn well admit when another woman looked beautiful.

"Hello, I'm Captain Ceren Meena. Sorry it took so long for us to meet; we got ambushed by a Red Star patrol."

"It's a pleasure to meet you captain Ceren, my name is Summer Rose." Summer responded. She wasn't showing it, but the poor woman was very fucking sad, and it seemed to be over a family member.

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Miss Rose."

"Please, call me Summer."

"Very well then Summer. If you don't mind, I have a few questions to ask you."

"Go ahead, though I do have some questions of my own."

That was understandable. Summer was most definitely confused; Ceren could tell by how her eyes kept darting around the bridge.

"Summer, do you mind shedding some light on how you appeared in my port-side hangar bay bleeding to death?"

"I was... fighting someone. I thought I would be able to kill her, but it turns out I wasn't. But I have no idea how I got here, I remember fighting her, then waking up on this ship."

"Hmmm. I see. So, you didn't create that blue portal."

"Blue..portal? Do you have a recording of this portal?"

"That I do, you want to see it I presume?"

"Yes please, I want to confirm something."

Ceren pulled up the recording for Summer to view. By the time it ended, Summer's face was somewhere between relief and confusion.

"That was Raven's portal. But why was it blue? Did her semblance evolve somehow?" Summer began mumbling to herself. Whoever this Raven was could apparently make portals, one hell of a useful ability.

"Captain Ceren, do you mind telling me where I am right now?"

"Sure, not that it'll do you much good. You are currently located in the middle of bum-fuck somewhere. We have no goddamn idea were."

"What do you mean? Shouldn't you be somewhere close to the Kingdoms?"

"Well fuck. First contact it is then. Shit." Summer's face changed from confusion to shock hearing those words. Neat, always a little childhood dream of Ceren's to say that.

"W-what do you mean first contact?" Summer's voice came out shakily, almost scared.

"Summer, you are currently onboard the Eminent class battleship BB-3398871831. We are currently lost as fuck in an unknown galaxy, with the only thing we recognize within 30 lightyears of us being actively hostile towards us. Congrats, you are now in space."

Summer's face fully devolved into one of pure shock. Her eyes becoming impossibly wide, her mouth looked like it would fall off. Then she began to stumble, her legs becoming wobbly.

"Y-you m-mean. I-. Space-. How-?" Summer couldn't even form sentences at this point. It was a miracle she didn't just go into shock.

Summer couldn't believe it. She was in space! She was in space and on a spaceship! With real aliens! Wait. She was in space. She was in space. She wasn't on Remnant. These aliens wouldn't know where Remnant was. She didn't know where it was. She wasn't able to see her girls.

The realization finally hitting her, Summer began to sob.

"I'm..I can't see them again. I'll never see my baby girls again. Ruby... Yang... momma's sorry little ones. I'm not coming home."

She couldn't stop her tears. She couldn't.

"Alright."

She heard Ceren talking. But she couldn't understand any words. She wasn't going to see her girls again.

"Attention crew, this is your captain speaking. As of right now we have first contact with this convulsion's humanity. A woman by the name of Summer Rose is on this ship, she arrived via portal in the port hangar bay. She is currently sobbing on the bridge. She is crying the tears of a mother who can't see her children. We are going to rectify this. As of this moment our orders have changed. The Red Stars shall be dealt with as they come, but our current orders are as follows: Get this ship to the planet of Remnant as fast as we fucking can. All stations will be receiving orders now. This is your captain, out."

The tears stopped. She heard what Ceren said. They were going to help her. Why? Why?

"Why?"

"It's our duty. 'Into eternity, we protect.' That is the motto of the UEC military. And I will be DAMNED if I don't even TRY to reunite a family. I have spent too long tearing them apart, now I have the chance to bring one back together. And HELL, if I am going to leave you to your fate. I will find you a path home, no matter what happens."

"R-really? Yo-you're going to bring me home?"

"I swear on my honor as a Feltan. I will find you a path back home or die trying."

"Thank you."

The tears began to fall again, only this time out of happiness. These complete strangers were going to help her. They were going to bring her home.

She couldn't stop the tears.

Ceren watched as Summer left the bridge, she was being led to her quarters, still crying the entire way.

"Captain, all stations are green, they have received their orders." one of the bridge crew told her.

"Good, get us underway. Has Pavle got a read on where the portal originated from?"

"He has a direction, no origin point. Said the portal was too far gone to find it."

"Damn, well it's better than nothing. Get us moving in that direction, one system over."

"Roger that sir, prepping FTL for a jump. Jump time; 2 days."

"Jump us."

Ceren felt the hum of the FTL drive activating. This was something she could never even dream of doing. Hell, she still had some trouble believing it. But that didn't matter. What mattered was getting Summer home. And if they got her home, then Remnant could be a great place to stay. Not like they would be getting home anytime soon, or at all.

It had taken a few days, but Summer had finally calmed down. Now, she was exploring the ship with Zuhura.

"So, you're not a Faunus?"

"Nope, I'm a hybrid Feltan. We hybrid were created by splicing human and animal DNA to create a workforce that could be created on-mass. Our ancestors were little more than slaves, then the war started. And we got our freedom from non-hybrid Feltans, but at a heavy cost."

"What was that cost?"

"Our culture. The entire culture of our species, gone. We know nothing of it. The only thing we still knew from before the thousand-year war was our planet's name, Feltar."

Summer couldn't help but feel sad. Zuhura's people lost their entire culture to a civil war. But despite the depressing bits, everything Zuhura was saying was so interesting.

"And what are Xenovians?" Summer couldn't help but ask.

"Look ahead of you."

Looking ahead Summer saw a short man, standing about 4 foot 2. But then she realized it wasn't a man. It looked like a person, but the skin. Their skin was a constantly moving shade of brown-ish gray. It looked exactly like cave walls and was constantly changing.

"That's a Xenovian. They evolved on a VERY high gravity desert planet. Surface was so hot they had to live underground. Don't let their small size fool you though, they are the best engineers in the galaxy. And I've seen them thrown 50-kilogram crates around like bouncy balls before."

Summer shuddered at the thought of a 4-foot 2 man throwing that heavy of a crate around.

Several hours had passed since Summer began touring the ship, and she finally got to asking about the ship itself.

"So, this is a battleship, right?"

"Correct. This is an Eminent class battleship. A newer class, put into service in 2689."

'Woah, that's pretty new right?"

"Ehh. It's the newest battleship class, the current date is 2758. I heard they were working on the replacement ship, but who knows."

That shocked Summer. This ship design was nearly 100 years old!

"The Eminent class of ships are still the deadliest battleship around."

"Really?"

"Yeah, they clock in at 4,985 meters long. We have a ton of guns, including turreted accelerator cannons. Not to mention we can carry over 150 small craft, along with two destroyer and one cruiser class ships on the outside of our hull." Zuhura began listing of the specifications about the ship. Which Summer wanted to hear, but the more she listened the more she began to feel small.

"W-what about this ships name?"

"It doesn't have one yet."

"Huh?"

That confused Summer. Why wouldn't it have a name? Don't all ships get names when created?

"Why?"

"The ship hasn't earned one yet."

Zuhura seemed to see Summer's confusion, so she quickly clarified.

"We build so many ships that it's impossible to name them all. So, a ship isn't given a name, it earns one. For example, the Eternity is a Titan class cruiser that has lived long past it's fellow ships, but it still keeps going, which earned it the name Eternity. All our ships, with the exceptions of the first ship of a class, are named like this."

It sounded weird to Summer, but it made sense. And that gave her an idea.

"You said that ships earn a name, right?"

"I did."

"I think I may be able to help you find a name for this ship."

Ceren was looking over the system maps that the scans created. Of the two systems on their current course, one had no valuable resources in it, but lots of cover. The other had potential for a massive Triodite deposit but had little cover.

"Dammit. Do we make sure we have cover, or maybe mine Triodite. God damn dilemmas."

After much thinking, and a lot of planning, she decided to risk it to get the Triodite. Hiding was good, but they would get into a fight eventually. And if they didn't have Triodite they wouldn't be able to make proper repairs.

"Navigation, set coordinates for system Beta. And prep mining drones. We are going to get that Triodite."

"Roger."

"Weapons, make sure we are ready to fight. Chances are that the Red Star's find us, so I want missiles and guns ready for combat."

"Copy that sir."

This was going to be the most stressful mission she was ever on. But it would be worth it. It would damn well be worth it.

Her quarters were rather modest for a captain. Then again, the UEC doesn't go overboard in designing things for comfort. Right now, she needed a good drink and some rest. Staying up for 72 hours straight, even with her enhanced physiology, did not have a good effect on her body.

Right as she was getting settled, she heard the doorbell, not really but close enough, go off. Sighing she got up to open the door.

"Summer, come in."

Summer walked into the room and seemed surprised by something.

"It's so, small."

"Yeah, the UEC doesn't do over the top things. Everyone has a room similar to this, the captain's quarters in just a little bigger."

"I see."

Summer continued to look around for a little while, before finally sitting on one of the chairs in the room.

"So Summer, what did you need?"

"Well, I heard that this ship was unnamed."

That was not what Ceren thought Summer was here to talk about, but that was fine.

"It is yes, why do you ask?"

"I believe I have a name for it."

"Really? Do tell."

Ceren wanted to see where this conversation went. Hopefully Zuhura explained the way UEC ships were named to her, or this could get awkward pretty fast.

"Your ships earn their names, correct?"

"Yes, they do."

"Then I know what this ship has earned."

"Really?"

"Yes. Pathfinder. It earned this name by choosing to find a path to somewhere it doesn't know. Somewhere it has never been before. All to help a single lost woman reunite with her family."

Ceren smiled. A bright, massive smile. It was perfect. Pathfinder. Her ship, Pathfinder. The crew would love it.

"I'll announce it." Ceren said with a smile.

All through the ship, the various crew members went about their tasks. They had been invigorated by their captain's speech and would do their best to help Summer Rose. Then, all through the ship, an announcement from the captain came on.

"Crew of this ship. There are only 520 of us, 520 against thousands. The Red Stars have us outnumbered. The galaxy has us lost. But we are not yet broken. And now, we shall not break. Our ship, this ship that has served us for the past 20 years, has a name. A name given to it by Summer Rose. This ship has been given the name Pathfinder, for choosing to find a path through an unknown galaxy to Summer's home so she can see her family again. And we shall embrace this name! From this day forward the galaxy shall know the Pathfinder! We shall not stop until we have completed the path we are following! We shall not fall! We shall complete the path to Remnant! And then, we shall start a new path. But, for every step of the way, the Pathfinder will carry us. And we shall in turn carry it through it's darkest hours into the light that comes after. We are now, all of us, Pathfinders."

All throughout the ship, from the deepest parts of the engine bay to the bridge itself. The crew cheered. And the Pathfinder seemed to cheer with them.
