Ep 11 : Fulgrim.

Chemos is a mining planet in decline. Resources were becoming scarce and mining machines were wearing out while supplies were limited.

Life on this planet was very harsh and the inhabitants redoubled their efforts to survive in such a cruel time.

But providence smiled on them when a meteorite fell from the sky and crashed on a mountain slope, opposite the Callax factory.

Three workers dressed in patched accoutrements ran up and saw the huge crater dug in the ground with a kind of light at the bottom.

Woman: "What is this light?"

Man 1: "I have no idea."

Man 2: "Let's go down to see!"

They descended and then saw the light which weakened before their eyes and went out. They were surprised to see a baby with a perfect physique.

One of the men took the baby in his arms to observe him more closely.

Man 1: "Incredible... This baby fell from the sky..."

Woman: "What are we going to do? We're not going to leave him there."

Man 2: "Let's kill him."

He pulled a knife from his pocket. The two workers were shocked.

Woman: "Wait! Why do you want to kill him?!"

Man 2: "We don't have enough portion for all of us. Besides, why take that child out of nowhere? I would never take that risk."

Man 1: "Stay away from this child! I forbid you to do so!"

Man 2: "He's dangerous! We don't just have to do that!"

Woman: "You looked for it Sullax..."

She took her rifle and pointed it at the workman.

Man 2: "No, wait!"

She fired several times and killed her colleague in a coolness that would scare any human.

But this duo had no ounce of remorse, only having eyes for the child who began to cry because of the sound of the weapon.

Woman: "Don't worry my little one, mommy Tullea is here."

Man: "Dad Corrin is here too."

They embraced the baby who stopped crying. They could see his purple eyes.

The duo then saw that in the place where the baby was posed, water flowed.

Corrin: "I believe I have found the name of our child, Tullea."

Tullea: "Which one?"

Corrin: "His name will be Fulgrim."

Tullea: "Look at it. He has the eyes of our god and surely the powers of our god."

They returned from the crater, leaving Sullax's corpse behind. But something they didn't see was a piece of metal bearing a gothic number: the number III.

Thus, the Primarch named Fulgrim began his life in this world of Chemos.

Growing up, he saw the misery of his planet and the wars that shook them.

He was rapidly growing tall and strong as his overt beauty with his white hair and purple eyes grew stronger with age.

As a worker in the factory in which his parents worked, he accomplished his tasks with remarkable efficiency, he quickly became a worker of prestige and was the pride of his parents, although loving, they are desperate and sad.

He also showed a great talent for dueling with swords but also, he understood how the machines worked in their entirety.

One day when he was still a young adult. He was summoned to the factory offices.

Fulgrim: "What do you want from me, Mr. Manager?"

Manager: "That you are part of the expedition to Rac's outpost. Your unique abilities could be vital for this journey."

Fulgrim: "Hm... I'll see what I can do. Count on me."

A few days later...

The expedition was on foot with patched motor vehicles.

Fulgrim was with his parents.

Tullea: "Take care Fulgrim."

Corrin: "Don't die there."

Fulgrim: "I promise you I'll be back."

He got into a vehicle and then the expedition left the valley of the factory before engaging in the mountainous and desert paths of the planet.

It was the first time Fulgrim had come out of the Vale of Callax and found places even more desolate than the valley he had lived in all his life.

They arrived around dusk in front of a large building, next to a mountain. Its walls were rusted and its windows shattered from the weather. The workers got out of the vehicles and began to carefully enter the dilapidated outpost.

The guards on their side, equipped with their swords and their carbines watched the surroundings.

Fulgrim on his side, had put himself in height to observe the surroundings of the base.

But after a while, shouts were heard and Fulgrim looked down. To their horror, the workers and other guards were panicking out of the outpost.

Fulgrim: "But what's going on?!"

He hurried down the mountain and came to the convoy.

A vision of horror presented itself to him, starving cannibals, naked and thin attacked with ferocity on the workers whom they tore apart while the guards fired rifles or fought with swords against the cannibals.

Fulgrim at this moment was seized with terror in the face of this sad spectacle.

But in the space of an instant was seized with a blind and limitless anger.

Fulgrim: "MURDERERS!"

He threw himself against the cannibals. He felt his eyes pulsate and burn.

The other workers as well as the cannibals then saw Fulgrim with his sword while his purple eyes shone with a twin-star-like glow.

Fulgrim saw time slow down before him and with dexterity superior to any human being: he mowed down cannibals with his sword or struck them with his sword. With each blow, a cannibal died.

The tribe fled in front of this god but the latter pursued them with his speed now become inhuman. Fulgrim slaughtered the cannibals to the last.

Finally, silence fell on the mountainside, the bodies of cannibals strewn on the ground.

The workers were shocked to see what had just happened; this young man had killed these monsters with a force never seen.

Fulgrim returned to the trailer and saw the bodies of the unfortunate workers on the ground. The survivors saw Fulgrim with tears in their eyes, purple eyes that had returned to their original form.

The workers knelt before him because now he had no more doubts. The god of Chemos was facing them.

Over the next few days, the outpost was rehabilitated with advice from Fulgrim and the area around it secured.

Then a few days later, part of the expedition returned to Callax.

Fulgrim's parents returned their son to return victorious from this expedition.

The two embraced their son and learned of the exploits of what happened there.

Tullea: "You saved us all Fulgrim."

Corrin: "We're so happy..."

They hugged Fulgrim. The latter saw something in their eyes that he wanted to see in these workers: hope. Hope for a better tomorrow returned.

But Fulgrim on his part still harbored a bittersweet feeling for it was his blind rage that had given Callax respite. A rage characterized by his purple eyes that he didn't understand.

Other years passed; other expeditions led by Fulgrim were crowned with success. The mines built and the machinery improved allowed Callax to produce more of what it consumed and as a result Callax once again prospered.

Eventually, Fulgrim rose to the top of the Callax hierarchy. He arranged for the people he adopted to relearn the culture of Chemos with the books kept in the factory's vast libraries. Thus, the forgotten arts returned and the now educated population grew and expanded.

Some factories on the planet joined Callax in the following years to benefit from the new power of this capital.

The cannibals were hunted down by Callax's army.

After a while, Fulgrim prepared in 814.M31 an expedition to Forage Prime to try to retake it from the cannibals.

A grand expedition to recapture a factory containing vital knowledge of Chemos.

They arrived in front of the gigantic factory whose once-human monsters launched themselves against the inhabitants of Chemos.

Fulgrim: "Go into battle!"

The soldiers shouted and launched themselves against the cannibals. The latter had no chance against Fulgrim's soldiers.

The latter entered the factory and discovered to his amazement, a mutant with deformed limbs.

The monster charged, screaming in agony.

Fulgrim tried to hit him with his sword but the creature was tenacious against him.

For a long hour, the two opponents stared at each other and attacked each other viciously.

Eventually, Fulgrim mowed down the creature in one of his hearts. The monster fell to the ground.

The soldiers shouted victory to their king and scattered through the factory to take control.

Fulgrim (facing the creature): "We don't challenge civilization my dear. This one offer what is most perfect for humans. While barbarism manufactures things like you. Die."

He finished off the creature by piercing its other heart.

Fulgrim allows the resumption of contact of Chemos with the merchant interstellar ships. Thus, in exchange for food, the ores of Chemos left for the planets. Thus, the planet became again what it has always been.

But unlike the Primarch, humans were mortal and his parents grew old.

Corrin died of illness and soon it was Tullea's turn.

Fulgrim was in front of his mother who was in her bed. Her skin was withered, her white hair diaphanous despite a well-nourished body.

Fulgrim: "Mom, don't leave me. What will become of me without you?"

Tullea: "You'll be fine... You managed to manage on your own... Fulgrim before I left... Let me tell you something..."

Fulgrim: "Which one?"

Tulle had tears in her eyes.

Tullea: "I'm so sorry... I didn't take care of you enough... Forgive me..."

Fulgrim: "You put good will. I will never forget you."

Tullea smiled and took her last breath.

Tullea: "Thank you... my baby..."

Fulgrim felt his mother's hand relax and her eyes went still, lifeless.

Fulgrim kissed his dead mother and gave her a last hug.

Just before their death. Fulgrim had made paintings and busts of them so that their image would never be forgotten.

The decades that followed were spent in the expansion and eventual unification of Chemos.

But Fulgrim on his side was discovering very strange abilities.

Indeed, his purple eyes boosted his superhuman abilities to levels even he had trouble comprehending.

But also, he had another power. Indeed, he could manipulate the earth and do with it what he wanted. Like making it fertile or barren, creating golems, ditches, and mountains, etc.

But one day, in the year 830.M31, two-headed gold vessels arrived on the planet.

Fulgrim ordered these strangers to enter his palace, so that he could talk business.

So in his private quarters.

He received the warlord dressed in his golden armor and surrounded by a divine aura. Beside the warlord was a blonde woman.

Fulgrim understood who he was dealing with.

He knelt down facing the warchief with his sword.

Fulgrim: "I swear I will serve the Imperium. Father."

Emperor: "So you understood who I was?"

Fulgrim: "Just seeing you and the woman next door. You are my real parents."

The blond woman: "Fulgrim... My son!"

She threw herself on Fulgrim and hugged him.

Back on Terra, Fulgrim met his brothers but also his Legion. But he saw that the latter was very small, barely a few hundred Space Marines out of the tens of thousands of the other Legions.

Fulgrim: "What is this joke? Why is my Legion so small?"

Salem: "Alas my son. Not long ago, Selenar revolted against the Imperium and the ensuing battle decimated not only the III Legion but also the genetic reserve of your sons. The soldiers you see there, they are the survivors. I am deeply sorry."

Fulgrim: "Hm... It's better than nothing. Let this legion be as perfect as possible! With the abilities that come from me. They will be unstoppable."

Salem: "I see, I let you do it..."

Salem thought back to the powers Fulgrim showed him. It wasn't magic, or even psychic powers. An ocular power and a physical power. Which made him ask the question. Would these abilities come from the God of Light?"

More than 15 Primarchs...

To be continued... The Castigation of Terrentius.

Imperium forces arrive in the Ordoni Cluster and encounter Terentius, the master of this system. But this treacherous warlord will do anything to gain power.
