Long ago, when Giovanni was just a child, he was the prince of the nation of Thundia; a neighbor to the Cleomoria islands. He was a quiet kid, but a happy one too. The king of Thundia was well known as a temperamental ruler, and was the consumer of the Rumble Rumble Fruit; a Logia that turns you into lightning. But he was always a just king, aiming for the best for his people. "So that is why you are being married into their family, so we have a secure trade route with Cleomoria~" he informed his son. Giovanni just sighed, "I understand father, I won't fail you."

However, before they could leave, there was an alarm. "Pirates! We've got pirates!" a scout cried out as a crew of 50 came rushing up to the castle as the captain cackled. "Take the valuables! Destroy everything! This will put the Bearded Pirates on the map!" His beard was red, with blonde highlights, and his crew answered him, "Yes Captain Flamebeard!" The king took Giovanni to the weapons storage, handing him a whole sword. "W-w-wait I can't-" he stuttered, but the king shushed him, "You're marrying a Cleoma, might as well start training with one early~"

He grunted, holding up the heavy blade shakily as his father zipped away. "I can do this! Just you watch!" He started running, but tumbled forward unable to handle the weight distribution. "Damnit!" His cry attracted the attention of a couple of pirates who had climbed in through the windows. He swung at them, but one just stepped down on the blade and chuckled. Giovanni growled, squatting down and tried to heave it out from under his foot. The pirate stepped back off the blade as the kid threw the whole sword up and stumbled back. The two watched the sword spin in the air, and both gasped as it landed hilt-down between the kid's legs. He squeaked, passing out from the pain immediately, and the two pirates just jumped out the window to avoid blame.

After some chaos, the king came in and just blasted them with lightning, chasing Flamebeard off. After visiting with a doctor, the king was informed that due to the accident, Giovanni would never bear children of his own, but he decided not to tell the kid, believing that it would eventually fix itself. Giovanni married Maria a week later, and he immediately had fallen in love with her; her smile, gorgeous pink eyes, her laugh, everything about her was perfect. But to her, Giovanni was simply a marriage for political reasons. After years of attempting, they had no luck making future heirs, and Giovanni's father died before he had any grandchildren, but his death turned one of the fruits in the palace to shift into the Rumble Rumble, and Giovanni hid the fruit in a wall, should he ever deem it necessary. But one day, 20 years before present day, something happened to Maria.

Maria had been lost at sea after a wild Sea Beast had torn the ship apart. The kingdom spent 2 months searching for her, and had given up once they believed she was dead. Giovanni had lost everything, and for a month he never left his room. But yells from the guard brought him out, as pirates stopped at the dock. Preparing for an attack, he charged ahead, but stopped once he saw the lone woman walking towards him, and the ship began to sail off. "Maria..?" he asked, tears in his eyes. She smiled, taking Giovanni's hands and kissing him, and then took him back to the castle.

A few days later, the kingdom received a surprise. "It's a miracle! The queen is pregnant!" the headline read, and Giovanni believed it was his. But one day, a woman with blue hair and eyes with grey gloves came in one day while the queen was away. She bowed to the king respectfully. "Your majesty. My name is Dracia D. Lia, first mate to-" she's cut off, "Yea yea I know who you are, pirate. The only reason I don't kill you is your manners," he informed, and she sighed. "Sir, this may be hard to hear... but I don't think Maria's child is yours." He scoffed in disbelief, but she cleared her throat. "No, I'm positive sir... I couldn't just let the lie go on. It would have eaten at me..." He sighed, seeing the truth in her eyes, and leaning forward and asking her, "Who is the child's father..?" Lia gulped, and looked away as she replied, simply nervous to admit, "It is my captain."
