It was a beautiful day and a great day to take a stroll around the city. One young man in particular was walking the streets with no real particular place to go. He was extremely tall and rough looking. He had high cheek bones that made his brown eyes shaped squinted. His orange curly hair was in a pompadour; popular with the guys his age. He wore blue jeans and a black t-shirt that had a band's name written on it. His hands were in his pockets, head phones in his ears. His head was bobbing as he was listening to a song.
As he reached the edge of a dark alley he stopped. He felt a spike of power surge from the alley way. He turned his attention to the alley and took out one of his head phones. Another chill went through his body; his sixth sense seeming to be on edge. He shook his head and decided to take a look. He slowly walked into the alley and found it was pretty long considering the neighborhood was a small one.
"Hello?" he said into the darkness.
It was oddly darker than an normal alley way. He waited to see if anyone answered. There was nothing but an eerie silence. He looked around before shrugging. As he turned around, he felt his foot hit something. He jumped, not sure what it was before looking down. He had almost stepped on a plushie. It was a guy with black hair and big brown eyes. He was wearing a green jump suit and pants; like the uniform from his high school. The young man bent down and picked up the plushie.
A surge of energy went through him. He didn't know what it was, but it felt like a mixture of feelings. One of which was helplessness. Another feeling was as if someone or something was watching him. Instinctively he held the plushie close to his chest; as if he needed to protect it from whatever was watching him. He looked around and didn't see anyone other than himself and the doll there. He shrugged and looked back down at the plushie that was protectively pressed against his chest.
He couldn't help but feel he needed to keep this doll and decided to bring it home with him. He knew his older sister would make fun of him for having a 'girl toy' with him. However, his gut never let him down before and he wouldn't ignore it now. He walked out of the alley way and headed back to his house;. Unfortunately he never saw the icy blue eyes watching him intently.
When he got back to his house, as he expected, his sister teased him. He huffed at her before running up the stairs to his room. He closed the door and let out a sigh. He held the doll out in front of him; having had it clutched to his chest the entire time he had walked home. The eyes of the doll were big and seemed so, human like. Whoever had made this plushie knew how to make one seem real. He shrugged and looked around his room to see where he could put it.
He already had trophies and a couple of books, not to mention video games and CDs on his shelves. His desk was piled high with books he needed to study in order to get into high school. So the only logical place was his bed, which he happened to make that morning before heading out. He laid down in his bed and placed the doll next to him. He didn't know what it was, but there was something off about this doll but he couldn't put his finger on what exactly it was.
"Maybe I should name him." the young man said aloud.
A name crawled into his head as he looked at the doll.
"You look like a Yusuke...yeah that sounds good." the young man smiled.
"Well Yusuke, welcome to your new home. I'm Kazuma Kuwabara..." Kazuma said before chuckling to himself.
"Geeze, I'm going insane. I'm talking to a plushie."
He sat up and left Yusuke on his bed. Kazuma had some homework to do; which he was trying to avoid doing, hence the little walk. He let out a sigh before going to his desk and opening his science book. Yusuke watched him from his spot on the bed, silently and still.
Five years later...
Kazuma had got into college, studying to become a teacher. He had moved out of his parent's house after getting into high school and had worked at the local McRock's Pizza Joint. He was promoted quickly to nightly manager; which worked with his classes which were during the day time.
He un-locked the door to his one bedroom apartment carrying some groceries. He closed the door behind him and headed to the kitchen. He almost tripped as his cat, Eikichi walked between his legs; excited to see his master home. Kazuma laughed as he put the groceries on the table and bent down.
"Hey baby, you missed daddy?" he cooed as he scratched behind his ear.
The cat let out a happy mew before rubbing against his master's legs.
Kazuma chuckled before standing up and starting to put the food away. Eikichi continued to get between his legs and he almost tripped again.
"Okay okay! I'll get you food!" he said before grabbing the empty dish and pouring the hungry cat some dry food.
Kazuma set the bowl back on the ground and chuckled when Eikichi rushed to the dish and began to eat as if he hadn't in months. Kazuma shook his head before finishing putting the groceries away. He let out a sigh before heading into his room. On his bed was the plushie, Yusuke. Kazuma couldn't explain it, however he found himself always excited to come home and tell the doll about his day. It had become a habit after one awful day back in high school, when a girl called him ugly. He had ranted and paced his room. He could feel Yusuke's eyes on him and some how after looking into those chocolate brown eyes, felt better.
Since that day, he would vent and share his day with Yusuke. Sometimes Eikichi would join Yusuke in listening, however, most of the time the little fur ball was laying in the window, catching some sun.
"Man, you won't believe the kind of day I had." Kazuma said as he fell on the bed.
He sat up and put Yusuke in his lap. He looked down into his eyes.
"We had a customer who wanted peas and carrots on their pizza. PEAS AND CARROTS! Who DOES that? Seriously, that is so disgusting! I thought the lady who asked for sushi on her pizza was the worse topping idea until today." Kazuma said shaking his head and chuckling at the thought.
"And the lines at the store, holy crap that felt like YEARS! Everyone was acting like it was the end of the world." he shook his head.
He let out a sigh before picking up Yusuke and holding him gently to his chest as he looked up at the ceiling.
"I can't wait until I graduate. I know dad can't wait either. He said he is getting too old to deal with kids screaming like he is going to kill them." Kazuma said with a chuckle.
His dad was a bus driver and with his connections, could probably get Kazuma a job once he graduated. Mr. Kuwabara even had an internship ready the minute the catrit top could apply for one. His dad promised to hold off on retirement until his son got a job. He wanted to make sure his connections helped out his son.
Kazuma's ears twitched as he heard the pattering of little feet before seeing his cat jump on to his bed, hair on end and meowing fiercely. Kazuma placed Yusuke on the bed and picked up his cat.
"What's the matter Eiki?" he cooed, using Eikichi's nick name.
The cat struggled in his owner's hands and continued to meow. Then there was a knock at his door. His sixth sense, which had developed over the years could tell someone pretty powerful was at his door. However, it felt like they were trying to hide it. He placed his cat down before heading for the door. Eikichi stood behind his master, hissing at the door.
"It's okay, Eiki." he cooed.
He couldn't understand what had gotten into his cat. He looked out the window. He saw a tall thin man. He was dressed in a tight black shirt and black tight pants. His black hair was short and had a single strain fall into his face. He had narrow eyes that were an icy blue color and high cheek bones. The man had a stoic look about him and Kazuma had a chill go down his spine. Something was off but he didn't know what.
"Who are you?" Kazuma asked thru the door.
He was raised to never answer the door to a stranger, even if they were kind of handsome. He rolled his eyes at himself. He was gay and his family knew it but it wasn't that big of a deal to them thankfully.
"My name is Sensui. I'm looking for a Kuwabara Kazuma." the man said in a silky smooth voice.
Hearing his name said with that smooth voice gave Kazuma another chill.
"I'm him, what do you want?" Kazuma asked.
"I need to talk to you about something important. Can we speak inside? It's kind of hard to hear you through a door." the man asked.
Kazuma hesitated for a moment before just opening the door and taking a step outside before closing the door behind him. He could hear his cat practically screaming behind the door.
"We can talk outside my cat is well...having a hissy fit." Kazuma said with an awkward smile.
Sensui smiled warmly and nodded.
"I'm sorry to bother you however, I have been looking for you for a while now." the man said.
Kazuma blinked at the man.
"Really?"
"Yes, you see five years ago I lost something and I believe you have it." Sensui said.
Kazuma looked at the man for a moment. What was he talking about?
"What do you mean?" Kazuma asked, red flags were going off in his heart as well as his head.
"Let me start at the beginning. You see, I was walking home with a gift for my 5 year old daughter when I was jumped and robbed by some thugs in an alley way. When I ran after them, I had dropped a plushie. I didn't realize until after I had caught the thugs and gotten my wallet back. But when I went back to the alley, the plushie was gone. I looked all over but couldn't find it." Sensui said.
Yusuke.
Kazuma saw the doll in his mind and his stomach began to clench. Had Yusuke belonged to someone else? Why had he not thought to look for his owner? But something didn't seem right.
"Oh?" Kazuma said, not sure what else to say.
"So if you could give me back that plushie, I would appreciate it." Sensui said glancing through the window.
All the man saw was a hissing cat, glaring fiercely at him.
"How did you find me and why do you think i have yer plushie?" Kazuma asked, raising an eye brow.
"Well, I had asked around and a few people recognized you. I wrote down your name and began to look for you. When I found your house, I learned from you mother that you had moved out. I was so crushed. She couldn't remember where you had moved but said when she saw you she would give you my number. However, that was five years ago." Sensui said.
Kazuma's face turned grim.
"I never got the message." Kazuma said.
He was starting to feel like he should go back inside. The story didn't seem to make sense and more red flags; not to mention his cat was acting like the man was a murderer or something.
"And I'm sorry, I don't have it anymore. I gave it away. Sorry to waste your time." Kazuma said before turning around and walking back into his house.
As soon as he opened the door, the man pushed into the house.
"I don't believe you." Sensui said, his voice changing to a harsher tone.
Kazuma fell forward, almost falling on to his face. He caught himself and turned to the man a bit pissed.
"Get out of my house! I told you, I don't have Yusuke!" Kazuma said before paling a bit.
"So you gave it a name?" Sensui said in thought.
"And his name interesting..." he mumbled to himself.
"Yeah well, shut up!" Kazuma growled.
He clenched his fist. He hadn't fought since middle school and wasn't sure if he was rusty or not; however, he wasn't going to let this weird guy take Yusuke.
"Very clever come back. But I don't have time to talk to you." Sensui said before scanning the room.
Eikichi came out of no where as he pounced on the man, attacking his face. Sensui screamed in pain as the little creature dug it's claws into his face.
"EIKICHI!" Kazuma screamed, fear in his eyes.
Sensui pulled the cat off him and tossed him away. Eikichi landed on his feet and turned back around even more pissed off than before.
Kazuma grabbed the man by his shirt.
"Get out of my house NOW! Or I'll call the cops." Kazuma growled.
Sensui, who was bleeding from the small holes on his face began to laugh manically. Kazuma stared at the man, fear in his brown eyes. This guy was nuts. He shook his head before letting out a low growl and began to push the man back out the door. Despite being a lanky man, Sensui was stronger than he looked and grabbed Kazuma's wrists. He slammed the carrot top into one of the walls, pinning him against it. Kazuma spat spit as he let out a gasp. The wind was knocked out of him for a moment. He heard a screech and found that Sensui had kicked his cat away, who had tried to save his master.
"EIKICHI! YOU BASTARD!" Kazuma said, his body beginning to glow.
Sensui raised an eye brow at the young man he had pinned against the wall.
'He has power. He could be useful...' Sensui thought as he grinned wickedly.
"Now now, settle down. Just give me the plushie and I promise I will leave you and your 'precious' fur ball alone." Sensui said, a sickening smile on his face.
Kazuma shivered in fear at the look. It was deranged and evil. After a moment, he sucked in a deep breath and put on a determined look.
"Never." he said, not an ounce of fear in his voice.
"Oh? Then I might have to hurt you...or your cat." Sensui said glancing back at the poor cat who was knocked out.
"Don't you dare touch him." Kazuma growled.
He began to struggle against Sensui's grip. The man was stronger than he looked.
"Then tell me where Yusuke is." Sensui said leaning close, whispering in his ear, "Or I'll take you instead."
Kazuma shivered. He didn't know what that meant. However, it could be taken two ways and one he didn't even want to think about.
"Let. Him. Go."
Kazuma's eyes widened as did Sensui's. They both turned around and there was the plushie in question. He was walking and had his hand out as if he was pointing at the two.
"How are you...?" Kazuma began, still in shock.
"So...you can move and talk eh? Interesting." Sensui said.
"Get the fuck away from him Sensui." Yusuke growled, continuing to point at the man
"You know," Sensui said, seeming to ignore the plushie, "This one seems interesting. Maybe I'll take him instead." he said with a smirk.
Kazuma went pale and couldn't help but shiver at those cold blue eyes.
"Like HELL you will!" Yusuke growled, his hand beginning to glow a blue color.
Sensui's eyes widened and he let go of Kazuma to fully turn around and look at the plushie.
Kazuma fell on his butt and continued to look on in awe.
'This can't be happening...can it?' he thought.
"Get away from him and leave him alone." growled the plushie before releasing the blue light.
It flew in the air and before Sensui could move, it hit him in the shoulder. He screamed in pain before clutching at it. Smoke rose from the hand that fired what looked to be a blast of power. Sensui hissed before glaring at the plushie.
He could tell that Yusuke was ready to shoot another blast his way. He glanced back at Kazuma who was still in shock. However, Sensui knew that the boy would snap out of it soon and attack him.
"I'll be back, for both of you." Sensui said before running out the door.
Yusuke watched him leave before running to the door. With all of his strength, the little plushie was able to close the door. He leaned against it and let out a sigh.
Kazuma still sat on the floor, stunned.
Yusuke let out a breath before bringing his hands up and looked at them. They were like a mitten. He flexed them and saw they could close like a hand but that was all.
"What..."
Yusuke looked up and saw Kazuma was starting to get his sense's back.
"What...what are you?" he asked.
Yusuke scratched the back of his head and gave a side ways smile.
"Well...that is a long story..." he said with a chuckle.
Kazuma felt like he was going to faint. A soft mew snapped him back to reality. His eyes widened as he got up and rushed to his cat.
Eikichi made a small meow.
"Are you okay Eiki?" Kazuma asked, gently cradling his cat in his lap.
Yusuke rushed over and stood next to Kazuma. He didn't know what he could do to help. He felt bad that Eikichi was hurt. The little one protected Kazuma and it was Yusuke's fault for the two to be in danger in the first place.
Eikichi shook his head before seeming to be alright, just stunned. Kazuma let out a sigh of relief before gently hugging the little fur ball. He set the cat down on the floor. Eikichi stood up and stretched out his legs a bit before turning to Yusuke. The cat tilted its head to the side. Yusuke looked back at the cat. Eikichi walked up to the now walking plushie and began to nuzzle against him. The cat was huge compared to Yusuke, so he fell backwards and had the cat nuzzling him into the ground; purring as he went.
Kazuma looked down in awe. This couldn't be happening. He had dreams of his plushie coming to life. Some even had the plushie become a real guy. Kazuma's ears turned a slight shade of pink at those dreams. He shook his head. The carrot top just watched as his baby nuzzled a laughing plushie. After a few more minutes, he pulled Eikichi off the plushie.
"Who are you?" Kazuma asked, as he put Eikichi down and lowered his head to get close to Yusuke's face.
Yusuke was happy that he wasn't human as he was sure he would have been blushing.
"You know me, I'm Yusuke."
"Yeah, but you're alive!" Kazuma said.
'This is totally a dream.' he thought.
"Yeah, well I don't know how but I'm happy I am." Yusuke said with a smile.
Kazuma looked at the plushie for a moment before smiling himself.
"So I'm guessing you knew that guy." Kazuma said nodding his head in the direction of the door.
Yusuke scowled, which looked cute in Kazuma's opinion.
"You can say that. He is why I'm like this." Yusuke said pointing down at himself.
Kazuma blinked at Yusuke before waving his hands in the air.
"Hold on...you mean you weren't always a plushie?"
"Hell no! I use to be a real boy, like you!" Yusuke said, pointing at Kazuma.
"Really? Well, what happened?" Kazuma asked, gently picking up Yusuke and walking over to the door and locking it before heading to his room, closing the door behind him.
He put Yusuke on the bed as he sat on the edge, Indian style.
"Well...it was five years ago..." Yusuke started.
FLASHBACK
Yusuke was sitting at a table with two guys. One had long red hair and brilliant emerald color eyes. His skin was porcine like and if you didn't know any better, would be mistaken as a beautiful girl. He wore blue jeans and a white button up shirt. Next to him was a shorter man with black hair that defied gravity; a burst of white that separated his bangs from the rest of his hair. His crimson colored eyes were narrowed and looked serious; although it looked like he always carried that face. He wore a long black cloak almost covering his entire body.
"So what is this about Kurama? It's gotta be important if you brought Hiei." Yusuke asked as he took a sip of some coffee.
"We have a mission from Koenma." The red head, Kurama said, handing Yusuke a folder.
Yusuke rolled his eyes.
"What is it this time? A robber? A drug dealer? A demon?" Yusuke snickered at the mention of the last thing.
"Nothing like that..." Kurama said.
Yusuke raised an eye brow as he opened the folder. He read the file and laughed.
"What's so funny?" grunted Hiei, the shorter man.
"That diaper boy can't be serious, can he? A wizard? Come on." Yusuke said throwing the folder back at Kurama.
"We fight demons all the time." Kurama said catching the folder.
"But that's different. A wizard is like a witch but a guy right? That's just stupid. Besides, why haven't we heard about wizards before now?"
"Because Koenma didn't believe it either. He thought they were a myth too. However, with people vanishing and with no trace, he is starting to think it's a wizard."
Yusuke rolled his eyes.
"People disappear all the time and it's not by magic." Yusuke said, drinking his coffee.
"It's people that work for Koenma." Kurama said.
Yusuke stiffened.
"Anyone we know?" Yusuke asked, a flash of a blue haired woman appearing across his mind.
Kurama shook his head.
"No one we know... yet." Kurama said.
Yusuke let out a sigh but looked grim all the same.
"Then why are we sitting here for?" Yusuke said, finishing up his coffee.
He puts money on the table and stands up.
"Hold on!" Kurama said, stopping Yusuke.
"Let's come up with a plan first. We don't know what he can do."
"I'm not good with plans. Besides, I doubt it will be that hard to find him." Yusuke said with a grin before leaving.
"Wait Yusuke!" Kurama said standing up.
"Hold on. You need to pay for your meal. Your friend there didn't leave enough money." said the waiter who saw Yusuke leave.
Kurama sweat dropped.
Hiei chuckled.
'Damn it Yusuke...' Kurama thought as he took out his wallet.
~(Flash back Scene Change)~
Yusuke put his hands in his pockets as he walked down the street.
'People disappearing...but why?' Yusuke thought.
He didn't notice a person following him for the first block. However, his senses picked up on it and he turned down a dark alley. He hid off to the side and watched as someone had been following him.
Yusuke jumped out, his finger charged up and ready to fire.
"So you are the infamous Yusuke Urameshi." came a smooth voice.
There stood Sensui, a smirk on his face.
"I've been looking for you."
"Funny, I've been looking for you." Yusuke said before firing a shot at the man.
The man jumped out of the way.
"You are perfect for my collection." He said, his own hands powering up a purple color.
Yusuke got into a defensive stance, ready for an attack.
However what happened next surprised him.
Sensui put his hands together and began to chant as he did a couple of hand signs. Yusuke narrowed his eyes and decided he wasn't going to just stand there and let whatever this guy do whatever he was going to do. So he charged up his finger again and was about to shoot it at the guy.
Yusuke stopped dead in his tracks. He felt something pulse from deep inside him. His body felt as if it was heavy and he bent over. The words that Sensui was speaking seemed to be filling his ears and making him feel sleepy. He felt his body shrink, although he wasn't sure if it really was or if he was feeling that way. And then his body began to stiffen. The next this he knew was he was on the ground looking up at the looming figure of Sensui. He tried to speak but found that he couldn't. He also found that he couldn't blink or move at all.
His eyes would have widened in shock if they could. He was frozen and was basically fucked. He shouldn't have left Kurama behind and gone off by himself. Especially knowing there was someone going around making people who worked for Koenma disappear. He saw Sensui's hand coming down to pick him up.
"Hello?"
Sensui disappeared in front of his eyes as someone walked into the dark alley.
'Get out of here!' Yusuke screamed, however, it was only in his head.
Yusuke tried so hard to let this person know it wasn't safe. But it was obvious that he wasn't heard. He felt someone pick him up, fear that it was Sensui. He found it to be Kazuma. He looked at the man, hoping he wouldn't just leave him. Yusuke was shocked that that man held him close, as if he could sense Yusuke was in danger.
When the young man brought him home, Yusuke was relieved but didn't know what to do. He was stuck as a plushie and couldn't talk or move. How was he going to tell Kurama and Hiei? How was he going to warn them about Sensui? How was he going to eat? Will he even need to eat or even go to the bathroom?
"Yusuke"
Yusuke was drawn out of his thoughts after hearing his name, and was shocked that this guy knew it. The guy told him his own name. Kazuma Kuwabara. Yusuke liked the name and could tell that even though he was stuck in this form, he wasn't in the hands of that evil man.
~END FLASHBACK...~
Kazuma looked at Yusuke in awe. Yusuke sat there waiting to hear what Kazuma would say.
"That is crazy...so that was the guy that turned you into...this?" Kazuma asked pointing at Yusuke.
Yusuke nodded.
"How were you able to move?"
"I don't know." Yusuke said with a shrug.
He sort of half knew. All he could hear was Kazuma in trouble. He couldn't stand it and wished he was able to move and help him. Slowly he felt himself able to move until he could stand. When he heard Eikichi scream, Yusuke had rushed into the room and began to focus on his hand to try and fire his spirit gun. He was happy and relieved that he could still do it.
Kazuma looked seriously at Yusuke before nodding.
The two sat there in silence for a moment. Yusuke was the one to break it.
"So...what do you think?"
Kazuma blinked at him.
"Of me being a real person? I mean, you had me in your room for five years. It must be weird to find out I was real and could see and hear everything." Yusuke said.
Kazuma seemed to just realize this. His eyes widened and he felt embarrassed for some reason.
"You heard everything...like EVERYTHING?!"
"Yeah...you told me EVERYTHING." Yusuke said with a chuckle.
Kazuma's face turned red.
He had confessed that he was gay to Yusuke. He saw him pick his nose and flick it at the wall behind his bed. He saw him naked!
Kazuma's face flushed even redder.
Yusuke, thinking Kazuma was mad, waved his hands in defense.
"But not really EVERYTHING!" Yusuke lied.
"There were times I dozed off." Yusuke was only half lying.
He could sleep, but didn't really need it. He would do it when Kuwabara slept; as there really wasn't anything to do while the young man slept; other than watch his handsome face.
Kuwabara seemed to let out a sigh of relief.
"Okay...well. What do we do now?" Kuwabara asked.
"What do you mean?" Yusuke asked.
"Well, that creepoid knows you are here and is after you. I'm sure that won't be the last time we see him."
Yusuke looked grim.
That would mean Kazuma would be put in danger, again. He had to stop that from happening, but how?
He thought for a minute before getting an idea.
"We can talk to Kurama!"
"Kurama?" Kazuma asked.
"Yeah, the one I told you about. I know where he lives...I hope he still lives there though..." Yusuke said.
Kazuma thought about it. If it would make Yusuke happy then he would help.
"Okay, but I'll have to ask off from work."
Kazuma got up and left the room. Yusuke could hear him on the phone. After a little bit, Kazuma came back.
"I'm off for a week."
"How?" Yusuke asked.
"I told them something personal came up with my family and I need a week. Luckily, the boss really loves me, plus I am night time manager." Kuwabara said with a cocky grin.
Yusuke rolled his eyes.
"I remember you telling me that."
Kazuma scratched the back of his head and laughed.
"Yeah well...wait."
Yusuke looked blinked.
"What?"
"I need to call my mom."
"Why?" Yusuke asked.
"I need her to watch Eikichi. I'm not leaving him here by himself."
Yusuke nodded. It was a good idea, especially since Sensui knew that Eikichi was Kazuma's weakness.
Kazuma yawned, it was getting late or rather late for him; as it was only 11am, which was his bed time normally when he didnt have school. The pizza place was a 24 hour eatery. Kazuma's shift was usually from 10pm until 7:30am. It was a bit rough but he wasnt really social.
Luckily he didn't have school today either, that was on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Today was Friday so he had a couple days to try and figure this whole situation out.
"But first I'll go to sleep. We'll do all of that when I get up." Kazuma set his alarm for 5pm and made sure the house was secured.
He was happy that he had invested in an alarm system.
Kazuma crawled into bed. He passed in settling into bed. He looked over at Yusuke. It was weird now that he knew he was alive this entire time.
"Well...nite." Kazuma said before laying down and closing his eyes.
"Nite." Yusuke said, a little sad.
Normally Kazuma would lay next to him, wrapping his arms around him and squeezing him to his chest. However, it was different now. Kazuma knew he was alive and it must have been awkward. Yusuke let out a sigh and laid at the foot of the bed. He closed his eyes, the first time in five years. It felt nice and he found that made it easier to sleep; even though he still didn't need it.
Kazuma found he couldn't sleep. His mind was reeling from all that had happened. Not to mention, the fact he wasn't holding Yusuke. He felt cold, which made no sense as it wasn't like Yusuke had body heat as a plushie. Or did he? Kazuma couldn't remember how Yusuke felt, he never thought about it. Kazuma glanced down at the end of his bed. Yusuke was laying on his back, eyes closed.
It was weird seeing them closed as they never closed. He could easily pull the plushie to his chest. He could always chalk it up to him sleep cuddling or something. Yeah, Yusuke wouldn't know. Kazuma reached over and gently picked up Yusuke, who continued to sleep. Kazuma laid back down, Yusuke in his chest. He felt Yusuke move and stiffened. However, he realized Yusuke was nuzzling into his chest. Kazuma let out a sigh of relief as Yusuke still was a sleep.
Kazuma yawned and found the sandman wasn't going to let him stay awake any longer. His eye lids closed and he went off to dreamland.
THE NEXT DAY...
"So are you sure this Kurama guy still lives here?" Kazuma asked.
Kazuma specifically wore his white t-shirt because of the pocket located on the right side of his chest; right below his right collar bone. Yusuke's head was poking out the top of the pocket. The carrot top was starting to feel self conscious about the entire thing. Especially since the neighborhood he was walking through was a nice suburban one. He couldn't imagine someone working for King Enma's son living in such a nice and 'normal' area, let alone a nice two story house.
The night before, Yusuke gave the carrot top a bit more details about his life before being a plushie. He had died by a car accident and after a few hard trials, ended up coming back to life as a Spirt Detective. He was also teamed up with two demons who he had previously defeated. They had joined the team to cut back on their jail time. But they seemed to become a close unit. Yusuke claimed they were his closest friends, which he didn't have many.
Kazuma found it a bit strange that he hadn't ran into Yusuke prior to now. The plushie said he had been a punk before becoming Spirit Detective. Kazuma had a punk reputation when he was younger. However, his mother getting sick caused the carrot top to focus on getting better grades in school. He even convinced his three friends to hit the books rather then punk's faces. It didn't take too much convincing as they were really close to the carrot top and respected him.
The three had gone off to different colleges but would still give Kazuma a call. They had even met Yusuke, technically. Kazuma was happy they didn't make fun of him having a plushie. They had been very supportive and that included when he came out as being gay.
He made a mental note to give them a call once things settled down a bit.
Kazuma shook his head before glancing down at the plushie in his pocket.
"I'm sure he does. And if he doesn't, his mom would know." Yusuke said, hoping he was correct.
Kazuma nodded before taking in a deep breath and ringing the door bell. He stood there for a moment before the door opened.
A woman in her early to mid forties answered the door. She was pretty for her age. Her long black hair was tied back in a low pony tail. She gave the carrot top a warm smile.
"Yes?" she said in a sweet voice.
"Ah, hello Ma'am. I'm looking to see if Shuichi lives here?" Kazuma asked, having remembered Yusuke to use the fox's human name.
"Oh, which one? My eldest or youngest?" she asked with a warm smile.
Kazuma blinked his eyes for a moment before looking down at the plushie. The woman followed his eyes and gave a soft coo.
"What an adorable plushie. Although, it looks sort of familiar. Is it from an anime?" she asked, looking back into the now nervous Kazuma.
"Ah yeah..." he said with a nervous laugh.
"Well, I'm sure you're here for my eldest son." she said before moving aside, "Why don't you come inside."
Kazuma nodded before entering the house.
"Thanks ma'am." he said before taking off his shoes at the door.
"He ran out to the store. He should be back any minute. Why don't you wait upstairs in his room." she said pointing over towards the stairs.
"His room is the second on the left." she added before heading back to whatever she had been doing.
'That was easy...' he whispered to Yusuke as he walked up the stairs.
"Yeah, well, his mother was always happy when me or Hiei would stop by. Seemed he didn't have too many friends." Yusuke whispered back as they reached the red head's room.
Once inside, Yusuke felt an overwhelming emotion fill him. It had been so long since he saw his friend, let alone gone to Kurama's house.
"Hasn't changed a bit in five years..." he mumbled, feeling a bit more then overwhelmed.
Kazuma looked around. It was a simple room. It had white walls and a normal size bed. The room had two book shelves filled with all different kinds of books. There was a desk up against the window. Kazuma walked over to it and sat down in the chair.
"You ok Yusuke?" Kazuma asked, looking down at the plushie.
Yusuke snapped out of is dreamlike state and nodded.
"Yeah...just, I never thought I'd see his room again." Yusuke said before smiling.
Kazuma couldn't see the smile, as the plushie didn't have much movement for his head. Kazuma nodded before feeling a bit uncomfortable. He didn't even know this guy and he was just chilling in his room. Just then, the door knob turned. Kazuma straightened up in the chair and gave a nervous gulp. He could sense a strong aura from behind that door. Actually it was two separate yet equally powerful auras.
The door opened up to a very beautiful looking red head. Kazuma blinked at the beautiful looking guy. He only knew it was guy from the lack of breasts. He couldn't help but blush as the emerald color eyes looked intense at the carrot top. Kurama was able to close the door without looking away at the strange boy in his room.
He was a little more then surprised to hear he had a visitor, who wasn't Hiei or even Botan. So to find this strange carrot top sitting at the red head's desk, well his curiosity was a little more then peaked.
"Kurama!"
Both boys blinked.
Yusuke struggled from with in Kazuma's pocket. The carrot top blinked before reaching in to take the anxious plushie out.
"Hold on Yusuke! Wait a minute!" Kazuma growled while gently taking the plushie out of his pocket.
The minute he was released, the plushie jumped out of the big yet strong hands of Kazuma.
"Yusuke! Be careful!" Kazuma shouted, reaching to try and catch the plushie.
However, Kurama had snapped out of his stupor and instantly caught the falling plushie. He held the Yusuke looking doll in his hands. He blinked wide emerald eyes at an excited joy filled chocolate brown eyes.
"Y-Yusuke?" Kurama whispered, not sure if this was a dream.
"Kurama, it's so great to see you!" Yusuke said, a happy laugh escaping his string lips.
Kurama felt a bit light headed and sat on his bed, not looking away from the Yusuke plushie in his hands.
"But...how? What happened to you?" he asked, looking a bit closer at the adorable plushie.
"You were kinda right about making a plan..." Yusuke said with a side ways grin.
Kurama blinked down at the plushie before bringing his long lost friend into a hug, although it was just putting the plushie to his chest.
"Oh Yusuke, I was so scared. I thought you were dead." Kurama said, closing his eyes and trying not to cry of pure joy.
Yusuke felt guilty as he was pressed against one of his best friend's firm chest.
Kurama pulled the plushie back to look into those brown eyes. He thought he would never get to see those chocolate brown eyes again. He felt guilty for not following behind Yusuke. If only the redhead had gone after Yusuke instead of going home after paying for the food. If he had looked harder maybe he could have saved Yusuke. These were the thoughts that plagued him for the last five years.
Kurama had looked so hard for the detective for so long before giving up hope. Despite Koenma telling Kurama that Yusuke couldn't have been dead, Kurama had resigned to that being Yusuke's fate. He should have believed the literal king of the Underworld. The toddler would know Yusuke was dead or not.
"If Kazuma didn't find me, I probably would have been or even worse." Yusuke said with a sigh.
He didn't want to think what that wizard would have done to him after turning him into a plushie. Maybe he had a kink. Yusuke shivered at the thought.
Kurama blinked down at the plushie before looking up at the carrot top.
Kuwabara had just watched the two with mixed feelings. He was happy that Yusuke was reunited with his friend. But seeing the two so close caused a tinge of jealously mixed into his happiness for the plushie. He stiffened when the redhead had turned his attention to him. Those emerald green eyes seemed to be trying to pierce into his soul.
"I'm assuming you are Kazuma?" Kurama asked.
The redhead was a bit suspicious of the carrot top. It had been five years since Yusuke went missing. All of a sudden this guy comes in with a talking Yusuke plushie. A guy he'd never seen before today.
"Yeah." Kazuma said with a nod.
"I've been living with him for the last five years." Yusuke said, bringing the attention back to him, "I wasn't able to talk or even move until yesterday."
Kurama furrowed his eyebrows in thought.
"Why now? After five years, what made this year special?" Kurama asked.
"We were in danger." Kazuma said , finally speaking.
Kurama and Yusuke looked at the carrot top.
"Danger?" Kurama asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"Yeah. That wizard guy that we were looking for and who made me, well this." Yusuke said, having the two look at him as he gestured to himself, "he some how knew Kazuma had me and tried to attack him. I don't know what happened but I was able to move to protect him."
Kurama seemed to think about what was said. He looked back over at the carrot top. He still didn't know if he was innocent. He wasn't even completely sure if this was Yusuke in plushie form. Now that he was settling down from being happy to hear Yusuke's voice, the redhead was starting to doubt if this was really one of his best friends.
"Maybe we should visit Koenma." Kurama said looking back at Yusuke.
"Agreed. I'm sure diaper boy can fix me." Yusuke said with a sigh.
'Well, at least this Yusuke appears to be like the real Yusuke.' Kurama thought before putting the plushie on his bed.
The red head walked over to his desk. Kazuma scooted in the chair to give the redhead room. Kurama picked up a phone and began to dial a number. Yusuke and Kazuma looked at each other before looking back at Kurama.
Kurama talked low into the phone, nodding here and there. He looked back at Yusuke before turning back around and talking again. He hung up before turning fully back to look at both teens.
"We'll be leaving in 15 minutes." Kurama said before walking over to his door.
"I'm going to tell my mother we are going out for food. It is roughly lunch time." Kurama said, looking over at his digital clock next to his bed.
12:47pm
Kazuma's stomach growled at the sound of lunch. He blushed slightly before laughing a bit embarrassed.
"Sorry, I guess I'm hungry."
Kurama couldn't help but chuckle a bit.
"Maybe we can get something small while in the Underworld."
"Do you think they actually have food?" Yusuke asked.
"I've seen Koenma eat so I'm sure they have something." Kurama said with a shrug.
"Underworld?" Kazuma asked, blinking his eyes.
Kurama nodded.
"Wait, how do we get there? We don't have to..." Kazuma said, his eyes widening.
"No, we just have someone come and pick us up." Kurama said, giving the carrot top a reassuring smile.
He was starting to think that this guy wasn't too bad. Could actually be a genuine good guy.
'But he could be a good actor.' came a thought deep within his mind.
"I'll be right back." Kurama said before leaving his room.
Yusuke and Kazuma sat in silence.
"So...he seems nice." Kazuma said with a small smile.
Yusuke couldn't help the small line smile that crossed his fabric face.
"Yeah, he's my best friend. He's help support me through so much shit with my mom. I practically lived here. Well it was both him and Keiko's parents..." Yusuke said, his face turning sad.
"I hope she's okay." the plushie mumbled.
Kazuma felt a tightness in his chest. He went over to Yusuke and picked him up. Big brown eyes looked up into small brown eyes, a mix of blue swirling with the brown.
The two stared at each other in silence. Yusuke felt safe and calm in Kazuma's big hands. It felt nice.
"It will be fine. I meant, you found your friend. And it sounds like we're headin' somewhere important." Kazuma said with a smile.
He didn't really believe they were going to the real UNDERWORLD. It could just be the name of the secret agency or something.
Yusuke let out a sigh and relaxed even more in those big hands of the carrot top. He couldn't wait to be a 'real boy' again. How he wanted to hold Kazuma and protect the carrot top just as he had done for himself. If he 'was' a real boy, Yusuke knew he would have blushed at the thoughts running through his mind.
Kazuma turned to look at the door, right before Kurama walked back into the room. Kazuma turned Yusuke around in his hands, so the plushie could look at the redhead.
"Ok, everything is set. Let's go." the red head said with a warm smile.
Kazuma nodded before standing up. He was about to put Yusuke back in his pocket before turning to Kurama and walking up to him. Emerald eyes blinked up at the tall young man. He didn't realize how tall Kazuma was. Kurama was the tallest in his grade, so he wasn't accustomed to anyone being taller than himself. His eyes continued to blink as the carrot top held out Yusuke.
"Here, you hold him. I mean, I'm sure you'd wanna since it's been ya know, like forever." Kazuma said with a slight shy look across his face.
Kurama's eyes widened before looking down at the plushie. Yusuke seemed to have a mix of feelings go across his big brown eyes. It seemed to be filled with joy at being closes to his best friend again. But there was a hint of sadness of not being with Kazuma as they walked. Kurama felt a light pain. He could tell that Yusuke really cared for the carrot top. But, the redhead decided to be greedy today.
He smiled as he gently took the Yusuke plushie and held him close to his chest for a moment.
"Thank you, Kazuma was it?"
Kazuma nodded, a slight blush to his cheeks.
"Well, I prefer Kuwabara. Kazuma sounds a bit weird. No offense! It's just, the only people who call me by my first name is my family and well..." Kazuma said before looking at the plushie, who was looking up at the carrot top, "well, Yusuke."
Kurama nodded before grabbing a jacket with a front pocket. He placed Yusuke in it as he put the jack on.
"Ok Kuwabara-kun. Just follow me." Kurama said as he left his room.
Kazuma followed closely behind.
So this story has been 19 years in the making...oh god I'm so old! _
Anyway, I only have this chapter but I am working on a second one right now. I'm on vacation so I'm hoping I can not only work on this story but a bunch of other stories. I might update my profile sometime tomorrow...or later today? I'm finishing this up and updating it at 12:30am haha. So I guess that would be later today.
I hope you guys enjoy this! I've worked so hard on this and I'm very proud of it.
There was a lot of other stories I started to write but never posted. I was thinking about making a collection of them and posting them as mini stories in one 'story' I guess. I don't know. It would most likely be stories I wouldn't really finish, unless people demand me to. I'll figure that out.
Anyway, again, I hope yall enjoy this!
