Becky's POV:
Apparently the doctor said I'd have to stay at home for the next few days. Which also means no football! I'll die!
"Dadddd! Do I really have to miss football practice?" I asked my dad the next morning, after I'd woken up.
But there was something else, other than football, occupying my mind. Spike was stuck in my mind, and I couldn't get him out.
"Sorry, Becky. Doctors orders. But Spike called and said he'd skip practice to hang out with you."
"What? He doesn't have to do that." I said, surprised at how nice he has been the last few days. A little too nice, that is. Maybe he wants something from me. But what could it be?
"I told him the same thing, but he said that he doesn't want you to be alone. He'll be here in about-." Just then the doorbell rang, cutting him off. "Now. Well, I'm off. Just call if you need anything. Love you, Becky."
He kissed my forehead as he opened the front door and in stepped, the one, the only... Spike Hammersmith. "Hey, Coach Danny. See ya, Coach Danny." He smiled at me, as he shut the door. "Hi, Becks. Hope you don't mind that I'm staying here with you."
"No, I don't. Hey, can we go ip the video store and rent some movies to watch?" I asked.
"Yeah. We can." He said. I grabbed my coat on the way out the door. But when we got halfway to the the video store, I realized that I didn't grab a jacket; all I grabbed was a tiny shawl. I began to shiver. "Are you cold, Becks? You're shivering."
"No, I'm fine-e-e-e." I said, my teeth chattering.
"Sure, like I'm going let our star player get sick." He took off his warm black leather jacket and placed it on my shoulders. "There you go. That should help."
"Thanks." I couldn't hold back anymore- I had to ask him what was up with him. "Ok, give it up. Why are you being so nice to me all of the sudden?"
His tips of his ears turned red, but he was trying to hide it. "Can't a guy be nice without having a reason for it?"
"Some can, but you? I doubt it."
"Do you really want the truth?"
"Yes, so tell me now!" I said, staring at him. But what he said, made me happy, scared, and excited all in one.
"I, I think I like you, Becks." What?
Spike POV:
I called Coach Danny to tell him that I'd be skipping out on practice today.
"Hello?" Coach Danny asked, after I'd dialed up his number.
"Coach Danny, it's Spike. I'm just calling to let you know that I'll be skipping practice today."
"Why? Are you sick, Spike?"
"No, sir. I just don't want Becky to have to stay by herself. So, I'll just be keeping her company until she's aloud to come back to practice."
"Oh. Ok. I'll let Becky know." Coach Danny said, before he hung up, he said something else. "I'm glad that you've changed, Spike."
That confused me. "Coach Danny, what do you mean? I'm confused."
"Well, I was just thinking back to this first time we met. Back when you referred to yourself in the third person. You're the right person for Becky." He said. "Just so you know. I think Becky has a crush on you too."
I blushed, and looked around the room. I almost expected Coach Danny to jump out from my closet, but when nothing happened, I ended the phone call.
I walked the distance from my house to Coach Danny's house. I rang the doorbell and shifted my weight from my foot.
Coach Danny answered the door and I stepped out of the way, to let me go pass me. "Hey, Coach Danny. See ya, Coach Danny."
I walked into the room and shut the door behind me. "Hi, Becks. Hope you don't mind that I'm staying here with you."
She smiled at me. "No, I don't. Hey, can we go to the video store to rent some movies to watch?"
"Yeah, we can." I said. She grabbed what she thought was cost. But when we got halfway to the video store, she realized that it wasn't a jacket and it was a white shawl.
As we walked, I felt her start to shiver. "Are you cold?" I asked. "Because you're shivering."
"No, I'm fine-e-e-e." Her teeth chattered as she spoke.
"Sure, like I'm going to let our star player get sick." I took off my black leather jacket and placed it on her shoulders." There you go. That should help."
"Thanks." She said. Then all of the sudden she burst out. "Ok, give it up. Why are you being so nice to me all of the sudden?"
Her words hurt me. "Can't a guy be nice without having a reason for it?"
"Some can, but you? I doubt it." She tried to hide a smirk, but failed in doing so.
"Do you really want the truth?" I couldn't believe I was about to say this. But I need to let go of my fears, and just tell her.
"Yes, so tell me now!"
"I, I like you, Becks." I said.
"You do?" She smiled at me. "You want to know a secret?"
"Sure." I said, shrugging my shoulders.
She leaned forward and whispered in my right ear. "So do I."
That made a smile appear on my face, as I reached down for her hand. We walked the rest of the way to the video store, holding hands.
"Ok, so what movies do you want to get?" I asked.
"Hmm. Air Bud: Golden Receiver, The Sandlot, The Mighty Ducks, The Big Green, and The Waterboy." She grabbed the vhs tapes as she rattled off a few names.
We got them all and headed back to her house. We watched Air Bud, because hello? Football.
After we got done with Air Bud, we put The Big Green in. But before the movie had barely even started, we'd already fallen asleep.
I was against the back of the couch while she was on the outside and I put my arms around her waist as we both drifted off to sleep.
