Chapter Eighteen
"Hel-lo, love," Scorpius said as the curtain to his half of the ward room was pulled aside gently and a wild-maned, utterly gorgeous redhead stepped into his little bubble of boredom, instantly spicing things up. Her sudden presence also wound up making the blond realize he had absolutely no clue the last time he'd been laid, but judging by the hard on he was almost instantly sporting when the beautiful witch smiled shyly at him, it had been far too long. "Oh, I hope you're here to give me a once over," he added, unable to resist smiling as the potions that chugged through his system made him feel distinctly loopy and his cock twitched hungrily as he shifted, hoping she might notice and be tempted.
"They told me you might not be fully lucid," the beautiful redhead said, stepping closer to his bed while Scorpius's eyes dipped down to her modest decolletage and the blush that slowly spread up to her face. "How are you feeling otherwise?"
Scorpius couldn't be sure what kind of god must have been smiling down on him to have this gorgeous creature not just know him, but seem concerned, genuinely, for his welfare, but he was thanking any and all of them as she reached out to hold his hand gently. "I'm bloody wonderful now, love, with such a beautiful witch visiting," he said, all suave charm and promising smile.
Lily felt her face begin to heat at the compliment, even more than Scorpius's obviously potions-induced goggling when she'd slipped behind his curtain had already made her blush, and shook her head with a self-deprecating smile. Obviously he was well out of it. Hell, it barely seemed like he even knew her! "Alright, then. I just came to check in. I'll let you get some rest," she said, smiling once more as she began to step back.
Scorpius pouted at her ever so slightly. "I don't need rest. If I rest any more, I might go back into a coma from the sheer boredom of it," he joked, but realized it must have been in rather poor taste when he saw the beautiful witch pale significantly. "Come, at least sit and talk with me awhile, love," he said, smiling again, and patted the bed as he shuffled over to make some more room when she merely looked nervously at the spot. "I'm bored, and no one will tell me a thing." He tried once more to be charming, even as lurid fantasies of every way he'd like to have the witch who seemed to relent and perched delicately beside him, looking unsure still, adding, "And at least the scenery is drastically improved with you here, gorgeous."
He watched her roll her lovely and thoroughly entrancing hazel eyes, as if he was putting her on with his statements, and was determined to definitely take this chance to chat up a very pretty woman. Especially one who apparently had no clue he might have eyes that functioned well enough to notice she was smoking hot. "Alright, then. What would you like to talk about?" she asked, shifting to turn more fully toward him.
"Hmm," the blond mused, boldly reaching out and picking up the redheaded witch's hand once more. "I should like to start with your name, love," he said at long last, glancing up at her, not liking the sense of disappointment that seemed to wilt the strong line of the witch's delicate shoulders when he admitted he hadn't a clue who she might be.
"It's not important, really," she said, pasting on a fake smile as her lovely hazel gaze seemed to search his own for any hint he might subconsciously know her. Which, Scorpius supposed, was entirely plausible, but what with the amount of potions he'd been dosed with and how fuzzy his brain felt in general at the moment, seemed definitively out of reach. Though he also doubted that if he'd met such a sexy witch before, he'd have somehow not remembered her.
"Shall I assume you're not pleased to meet me?" he asked, a teasing lilt to his voice as he smiled at her devilishly.
"We've met," she replied quietly, looking down and away from him. Scorpius instantly reached out and tilted her head back up.
"Then I would like to place the sole blame on my memory lapse with the staff of St. Mungo's, in that case," he said earnestly. "I usually never forget a pretty face, and seeing as you're by far the most beautiful woman I've ever met, I'm rather ashamed I don't remember meeting you the first time around." He watched her bite her lower lip as his fingers trailed gently down her throat while her lovely blush rose up it, and then he leaned closer. "Refresh my memory, love?" he murmured only a few inches from her oh so kissable mouth.
"Scorpius," she whispered, and the blond felt the little hairs on the back of his neck rise up while goosebumps rippled down his arms and his cock throbbed needily.
"I remember who I am," he replied, still in a lightly teasing, definitely flirtatious, husky murmur while leaning into her personal bubble. "I was thinking of you telling me your name, love."
He had to bite his tongue to hold in the groan as a pink tongue darted out to wet the redhead's lips, even while she flushed that attractive shade of pink before him, leaning impossibly closer as her posture eased toward him. "I'm Lily," she said at last, then smiled a little, looking back up to meet his gaze.
"Fitting," he replied easily, all but oozing charm. At the quirk of her eyebrow he added, "A lovely flower name for the most lovely of witches."
"I knew you were a player, but I didn't expect…" Lily replied softly, looking between his eyes as if trying to catch him in a lie. But Scorpius, who was offended that such a lovely creature would deem him a player, however true that may have once been for him, held his ground.
"I would normally take offense to being called a player, love, but whatever potions they've given me are pretty good," Scorpius replied. He tucked some of her wild, slightly frizzy mane of dark red hair behind one ear, and purposefully let his fingers brush down her throat.
"I can tell," the redhead responded in a breathy whisper. Scorpius pouted again, for a brief moment, but then his smirk was back, fully-fledged and impossibly more lecherous.
"Then I reckon you must know me awfully intimately, love," he quipped, delighting in seeing her blush once more and chuckling. "And if not," he added as an afterthought, "you're more than welcome to be whenever you like."
The witch in his bed rolled hazel eyes, shaking her head slightly, but still didn't pull away, so Scorpius let his fingers trail back up the smooth, porcelain column of her neck, then across her jawline.
"You're not telling me to sod off, Lily," he said seriously, waiting, hoping and praying she would actually perhaps be affected by his admittedly not-great flirting. Because he was certain even a kiss from such a lovely creature as the redhead witch before him, would do wonders for his healing.
"Not yet," she agreed softly, and tilted her head a little, into his touch.
"Are you going to?" he asked, hoping he didn't sound as elated and hopeful as he'd heard himself when he said it.
A slow smile curved up the redhead's plump, perfect, and profoundly kissable lips, and he watched her intelligent hazel gaze drop to his own mouth tellingly. "Not yet," she repeated, and glanced back up into his eyes through her lashes as she seemed to be waiting for him to make some sort of move. It was as good as any sort of signal from a witch that she wouldn't be adverse to him kissing her, or more if he could manage it, so he leaned in impossibly closer, and gently brushed his lips over hers.
She didn't pull back, or recoil in any way, so in the next heartbeat, Scorpius pressed his mouth more firmly to hers and kissed Lily properly. His hand moved to bury itself in her hair as she made a soft noise of delight into his mouth and his tongue slid effortlessly against hers after parting her lips.
Scorpius couldn't hold back the groan as he felt her hand come to rest against his chest, gently grasping the fabric of his hospital issued gown, and he deepened the kiss into something much hungrier, and slightly more aggressive. Her lips tasted as good as they'd looked, and even as his hard cock throbbed and twitched in excited anticipation, he relished the sounds of her throaty moan. Just when the blond began wondering, however, just how far he could push this, there was the distinct sound of the curtain being pulled back, and before he could fully register it, Lily had broken away from him and the kiss, stood up, and stepped away from his bed.
He scowled automatically as Albus Potter, accompanied by a Mediwitch in lime green robes, interrupted what had, certainly been the best snog of his life, stepped into his little curtained-off cubicle of healing. "Your timing couldn't be more shite, Potter," he grumbled, even as his friend plonked down onto the side of his bed, in almost the exact place Lily had been mere minutes ago.
Albus snickered. "Seems like you're feeling more like yourself, Malfoy," the raven haired wizard shot back, grinning and casting his sister a knowing smirk.
"Too bad I forgot your sister and not you, Albus," Scorpius shot back before his brain could catch up with his mouth, and then, glancing across at Lily's somewhat tight smile, winced slightly. He wasn't entirely sure how he'd realized, subconsciously, in the last thirty seconds or even before that, that the lovely witch he'd been snogging and wanting to shag with an almost painful fervor was the little sister of his best mate, Scorpius wasn't entirely certain, but now that he did know, he felt even more keenly the interruption to possibly seducing Lily.
"Well," Lily said timidly, swallowing and not making eye contact at the abrupt silence following Scorpius's admission, "on that note, I'll…" She visibly hesitated, then shot Scorpius a guilty, almost longing and worryingly fearful, glance. "I'll just go," she finished lamely, then darted out behind the curtain. The blond opened his mouth to tell her to stay, that she was far better company than her stupid interrupting brother, but then the Mediwitch was pressing a potion to his lips and instructing him to drink it.
So instead, he glared daggers at his best mate once the lime-robed Healer had left them, unable to help but feel like a small child who'd been denied a favourite treat by a parent. "Don't give me that face," Albus griped, looking away and distinctly irritated. "There's no way you're not having some kind of weird relationship with my sister."
Scorpius scoffed automatically, exactly as he would have a decade prior when they were in school and his stupid best mate tried to tease him and bait him in implying he might, even the tiniest bit, have a thing for his little sister. Except that now, despite the delightfully distracting pain and calming potions he'd been provided, Scorpius could admit that maybe even back then he might have had a tiny bit of a thing for Lily Potter. Not to mention that now, he was kind of hopelessly in love with her.
The words slipped out without him meaning to, and even though he bit his tongue once they had, for Scorpius, it was too late. "If only that were true," he'd sighed, sinking back into his pillows and then mentally cursing the staff of St. Mungo's for their effective potions that were making him start to feel loopy again and clearly had a negative effect on his self control.
But even as he braced for the worst, for Albus to call him a shite friend, and a traitor, or even worse, the words never came. Scorpius, who'd closed his eyes, opened them and glanced across at his best mate, who merely looked sympathetic to the blond's plight. "You never know until you try, though," Albus merely said, chuckling a little as he rose at the blatant shock on Scorpius's face.
"You mean-?" Scorpius demanded, suddenly just as mad as he'd been earlier for Albus interrupting the best snog of his life. "You don't care if-?"
"Mate," Albus said, still grinning, "after the shite storm of the last year Lily's had, do you really think I don't want her to be happy, even if that means being with you?" Scorpius merely sat there, taking that thought in, unable to quash the sudden well of emotion rising within him. That he truly had Albus's blessing, and, most likely, the blessing of all the other Potters to actually try pursuing Lily in a romantic sense. To at least admit he wanted to be more than just her friend and protector.
"Well, shit," he mumbled.
"Just do me a favour, yeah?" Albus said and Scorpius, still slightly shell shocked, nodded absently as his mind became filled with distracting possibilities. "Don't break her heart, or James and I will make what that piece of dragon shite did to you look like a tickle fight."
Scorpius smirked slightly at the entirely superfluous warning, but nodded again anyway. "You got it, Potter."
"And maybe don't ask her out with a tent in your pants if you ever get round to it," Albus added, then sucked out from Scorpius's little cubicle laughing as the blond looked down into his lap and cursed fluently.
He didn't mean to kiss you, it was an accident, Lily told herself firmly for the third time since Flooing from St. Mungo's. She was still seeing, in her mind's eye, those stray dark grey eyes all but begging her to let him kiss her, and then, to her internal delight, the sheer loathing on Scorpius's face when they'd been interrupted. Not that she thought, for even a second, a sober and with-it Scorpius would have had the same reaction to seeing her. Not at all. Because it was definitely a fluke that the man she'd come to long for, and secretly like more than any other, had kissed her. It was an accident, a mistake, and certainly not to happen again. No matter how she might want it to.
He didn't mean to kiss you, he was barely even in his right mind, her brain reminded her yet again, and she sighed a little sadly as she climbed onto the lift in the Atrium and rocketed up to the Auror Department.
Scorpius had given testimony, upon waking at St. Mungo's some eight hours previously, about just who had attacked him, and how, and Lily was going to do her damnedest to make sure whoever she could talk to at the Auror Department would listen to her about just how much her ex husband deserved to be punished for his crime. To the fullest and most thorough extent of the law.
Less than a week later, as she went to Scorpius's flat while helping him home from St. Mungo's, Lily realized that maybe, just maybe, that kiss at the hospital wasn't just the top-notch potions and Scorpius's lack of memory talking. That, perhaps, Scorpius really was interested in the same sorts of thoughts and imaginings she tried to bury anytime she was around him.
She'd been setting him up on his sofa, blanket and pillows tucked around him, explaining which potions he was due to take, and fussing over making him tea and a light snack before she took her leave. "I'm perfectly capable of reading the labels, Lily," he'd teased after she'd lined up his various vials, making her blush and scowl at him.
"I know, but this sedative can be pretty intense, so make sure you eat something before taking it, or you'll miss the next round of pain potions," she responded, then firmly told herself to stop fussing. He was right. Scorpius wasn't a child, or completely helpless, and she was probably annoying him by acting like such a mother hen. She brushed her hands on her jeans and bit her tongue as the blond smirked up at her.
"Yes, Healer Lily," he said solemnly, grey eyes shining with mirth, and Lily decided that if he was going to start taking the piss, she should definitely shut up and leave him to his own devices.
"Alright, well, if you need anything-" she began then was abruptly cut short by the blond reaching for her hand.
"Actually, I do need something," he admitted, and the redhead tried not to let her sense of smugness creep onto her features. See, everyone needs help, even him!
"Sure," she said easily. "Do you want me to get you a book, or-?"
"Have dinner with me," Scorpius interrupted, still holding her hand. Lily simply stared at him, mouth parted in surprise. "Please? Maybe not tonight, but next week?"
The redhead's mouth worked silently for a moment, but then a slow blush began tinting her neck and cheeks. "Oh, okay, yeah. I'm sure after a week of hospital food, you're-"
"No, I mean like a date," Scorpius interrupted again, and Lily felt her blush darkening and burning her face more, even as hope and excitement began to fill her up inside. "Not like friends," he continued, and she noticed for the first time the blond, who'd always seemed so steady and sure of himself, suddenly looked nervous. "Of course, no pressure, if you just want to go as friends, then…" He trailed off, and Lily felt a slow grin beginning to form on her face.
"No, a date…" She sucked in a breath. "A date sounds…" Perfect. Amazing. Like a dream coming true despite me not deserving it. "Sounds great."
"I'll owl you?" Scorpius asked, smiling himself and looking far more like his usual calmly confident self. Lily nodded, trying not to seem too eager. "Alright then." She realized she was still holding his hand, and relaxed her fingers to release it, but then Scorpius said, "Oh, and just one more thing."
"Yeah?" she asked, breathless with excitement. And then Scorpius tugged her hand closer, and she leaned down and into his mouth as his rose to meet hers.
"A kiss goodbye?" he murmured, breath whispering across her lips, and if the butterflies in her stomach weren't shocking her, she'd have said yes. Instead, Lily leaned closer and kissed him, and it was just as perfect as the last time.
