Alvin Seville walked next door to the Miller house to see his girlfriend. Brittany had called him and asked him to come over to meet her there. He wasn't sure why, but figured this would be the perfect time to do what he had been considering for weeks, but was hesitant to. He needed to break up with her.
It's not that he fell out of love with Brittany or anything. On the contrary, he was still very much in love with her. But Brittany had so much going on in her life right now. Miss Miller's death, becoming emancipated and forced into guardianship over Jeanette and Eleanor (despite being only a few minutes older than both her sisters), hurting her knee and getting benched from everything she loves. It was just getting to be too much for Alvin.
It's not that he didn't have any sympathy for Brittany. But it was all she ever talked about anymore. He was starting to feel like he was dating someone in her 30s instead of a girl his age. He just wasn't sure he was really capable of providing the kind of support Brittany needed at this time.
But then every time he was about to break things off, the memories would come flooding back again. He and Brittany had always kind of had an on and off thing since they first met when they were 8 years old. But they made their relationship official in seventh grade, after the winter dance.
Simon and Jeanette also became an official couple around the same time, as did Theodore and Eleanor. It was nice when the six of them went on triple dates, as it always felt exactly like old times with all of them hanging out as friends.
But Alvin enjoyed his alone time with Brittany even more. Especially all those make out sessions. All those times he would cut certain classes to make out with Brittany during school hours. They both enjoyed the thrill of possibly getting caught. It just made these sessions all the more hot and exciting.
Of course, this all started out as Alvin's idea. It took quite a bit of persuasion to get Brittany to go along with it. But eventually, she became just as impulsive as him and he knew she looked forward to their school hours make out sessions just as much as he did.
Then there were the dates where it would be just the two of them. They would have a blast simply doing things together like going to the movies or amusement parks. Not to mention going to parties almost every Friday or Saturday night. He remembered how much fun Brittany used to be.
But after Miss Miller passed away, it seemed Brittany only ever wanted to have heavy, serious discussions. This was definitely not Alvin's thing. She didn't even want to compete with him anymore or have their usual love/hate banter.
As strange as it sounded, those were actually the things that made him fall in love with her in the first place. It was what made Alvin and Brittany... well... Alvin and Brittany. Whether they were friends or a couple, the rivalry between them always seemed to lie beneath the surface. Just waiting to come out next time there was something for the two to argue about. Having it any other way was a totally foreign concept to Alvin.
The fun dates also had to stop once Brittany hurt her knee, since she couldn't do too much physical activity while still healing. This included walking or standing for too long. So dates were pretty much limited to just the Miller house. He could only tolerate watching the same movies so many times before it got boring.
Alvin sighed as he got to the Chipettes' front door. Was this really what he wanted to do? He thought for a moment. It might not have actually been what he wanted, but it was what was needed. He was convinced this was going to be what was best for both him and Brittany in the end. He needed to be with someone who didn't come with so much baggage and she deserved to be with someone who could handle everything she was going through better than he could. He just hoped Brittany would see it that way too.
The red-clad Chipmunk took a deep breath as he braced himself to do the very thing he had been dreading this whole time. He knocked on the door, hoping he wasn't giving anything away with his knock.
He knew he had to be gentle with Brittany, realizing this was going to break her heart at least as much as his. But it would be tough, since he wasn't exactly known for being the most sensitive of the Seville brothers.
"Maybe I should've asked Theodore for advice on how to break up with a girl you've been in a relationship with for four years, first." He thought. "Or even Simon."
Theodore would've been the ideal brother for this situation. He was the sweet, sensitive one (a title Alvin still wasn't sure why he didn't earn) and must have known how to break up with a girl without totally devastating her. How to make her realize it was for the best and maybe even get her to agree to be friends. That was all Alvin really wanted from Brittany. For things to go back to how they were when they were kids and everything was all lighthearted and fun. Even their competitions.
But at least Simon was logical and level-headed. He would've been able to tell Alvin what to say in order to make Brittany understand logically why they needed to end their relationship. Alvin had a tendency to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. So he could certainly use his middle brother's advice on what he shouldn't say that would make the situation worse here.
But he knew the real reason why he never asked his brothers for advice on this. It was because he was afraid. Afraid that they were going to think he was an ass for abandoning Brittany just because of her problems that he knew she never asked for and had very little (if any) control over. After all, Jeanette and Eleanor had lost Miss Miller too. And yet Simon was still with Jeanette and Theodore had continued his steady relationship with Eleanor as well. But at the same time, Jeanette and Eleanor also weren't dealing with being in the role of a guardian and sidelined by an injury. So there was no way Simon or Theodore would understand the added pressure Alvin was facing with Brittany. The oldest Seville brother just had to face the facts. He was on his own for this one.
After being lost in thought for quite some time, Alvin couldn't help but jump a little when Eleanor answered the door.
"Hey, Alvin." The youngest Miller sister greeted him. She seemed to be her usual bubbly self. "Brittany is up in her room. She's been waiting for you to get here."
"Thanks, Ellie." Alvin replied, as he headed for the stairs. Though with the way he was walking, you would've thought he was heading towards his own execution. Luckily, Eleanor didn't seem to notice at all. After she let Alvin in and closed the door behind them, she quickly rushed back into the kitchen. She had her apron on, so he figured she must have been working on some new recipe. No wonder she and Theodore were so perfect together.
Meanwhile, Brittany was up in her room setting down the lighter she was using to light all the candles she had perfectly arranged for her special night with Alvin. Tonight, she was happier than ever to have her own room.
After Miss Miller died, she had to fight Eleanor for the now available bedroom for a while. Brittany, of course, argued that she was the one who deserved it. After all, she was the oldest and their legal guardian. That meant she won by default. But Eleanor insisted that wasn't fair and that she was the one who should get her own room since she needed the extra space for all her sports and exercise equipment, not to mention additional cooking equipment that just wouldn't fit in the kitchen. Surprisingly, Eleanor's stuff actually took up the most space, despite the ample amount of clothing, accessories, and beauty products Brittany owned.
Thankfully, Jeanette (being the peace-keeping middle sister she was) decided not to compete for the room. She said she didn't mind continuing to share. And eventually, Brittany won out by gaining sympathy after she hurt her knee and was crushed by the news that she would have to give up all the activities she loved for a while. On the plus side, Jeanette and Eleanor talked about how maybe they would both sleep better now that they didn't have to put up with Brittany's snoring anymore (which she still didn't believe she did).
Brittany walked over to her full-length mirror with a limp. She still had to wear a knee brace, but no longer needed crutches. She took a quick look at herself. She adjusted the lacy straps on her camisole and ran her fingers through her auburn hair, which she did not have in her signature ponytail tonight.
She smiled at her reflection, thinking she looked great. Not that she expected anything less. But she really needed to make sure everything was perfect for tonight and was feeling a bit uncharacteristically nervous. But she figured it was normal, considering this would be her first time with Alvin. And she didn't want it to be special just for herself, but him as well. After all, Alvin had been her rock throughout all the heartache she'd been through these past few months. She knew giving him such a precious gift was definitely the right move. And she was ready. Without a doubt.
Alvin continued to climb up the stairs. Once he was facing the front of Brittany's room, he noticed the door was cracked open ever so slightly. He knocked on it.
"Come in!" he heard her call out.
Alvin opened the door and as soon as he did, the first thing he took in was the smell of vanilla scented candles that had been carefully arranged all around the room. He looked down and noticed that rose petals were scattered across the floor. The lights were dimmed down and soft music was playing in the background.
He couldn't believe the sight in front of him. Brittany had turned her whole bedroom into a romantic paradise. But when he saw Brittany herself, it took his breath away. She was wearing a silky red camisole with matching boyshorts. Red was his favorite color and she knew it. Her auburn hair was also down and cascading past her shoulders. He couldn't even remember the last time he had seen her with her hair down.
"Br-Brittany... we..." Alvin stammered. But he couldn't even remember what he had planned to say to her now. She just looked so amazing!
"Alvin" Brittany said softly, but with the utmost confidence in her voice. Any feeling of nervousness she had felt before completely vanished now. "I've been thinking about this for a while now. And I'm ready. Ready to give myself to you completely."
Alvin couldn't believe what he was hearing. She had never even hinted she was ready to take this step in their relationship before. Not even during their make out sessions.
Sure, he'd thought about it before. And he was going to try to ask her how she'd feel about it a while ago. But then with everything that ended up going wrong in her life immediately after the thought had crossed his mind, he didn't feel right bringing it up to her. He figured she would not be emotionally ready to take their relationship to the next level when her life was so chaotic.
So the teenage couple had never even talked about this before. Alvin looked over Brittany once again in awe. But his eyes stopped in their tracks when he noticed her knee brace.
"Brittany, are you sure?" The red-capped Chipmunk asked his girlfriend. "What about your knee? The last thing I want to do is cause you any more pain."
He realized how ironic that was, considering what his original intentions were going over there.
The Chipette nodded in response. "I discussed it with my physical therapist and she said it was fine. But she did give me a big lecture about being careful. You know, because getting pregnant at our age would be a bad thing. So..."
Brittany limped over to her nightstand by her bed and pulled out a condom. She made her way back to Alvin with it.
The teenage Chipmunk couldn't help but chuckle.
"Look at you. All prepared and everything."
"Of course. I didn't want anything to go wrong tonight."
Alvin sighed as he felt himself lose his nerve to follow through with his original plan. He looked around the room once again. Brittany really did put a lot of effort into making this night special for them. Maybe this was exactly what their relationship needed to get back on track.
Alvin took another deep breath and looked into Brittany's eyes. "Brittany, I love you." he said sincerely.
"I love you too, Alvin." Brittany replied with a smile.
The young Chipette gently placed the condom on her bed. The two blue-eyed Chipmunks shared a look and started kissing. Brittany tugged at the bottom of Alvin's red t-shirt. He helped her remove it. He then pulled at her camisole.
Alvin and Brittany lost their virginity to each other that night. And Alvin was right. For the next few days, it did bring them closer. Until Brittany started talking about her problems once again.
A week after they had taken their relationship to the next level, Alvin found himself outside on the front porch of the Seville house. As he paced back and forth, the same doubts he had a week ago filled his mind once again. He had really hoped that sleeping with Brittany would solve all the problems in their relationship. Instead, it only seemed to complicate things even further. Could he really do this to her now?
He peered over next door to see Brittany on the front porch of the Miller house as well. She was sitting on the bench icing her knee, the brace resting beside her. She didn't notice him because her attention was entirely on her injured knee.
Alvin closed his eyes and took a deep breath. This was it. He had to walk over there now and tell Brittany it just wasn't working between them anymore. Before he lost his nerve again. It was now or never.
Alvin made his way over to the Miller house, just like he had so many times since the Chipettes had moved next door eight years ago. He couldn't help but feel a little bad as he watched his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend with the ice over her knee. She had an expression that Alvin couldn't quite make out as she continued to stare down at her knee. Was that sadness? Pain?
He couldn't help but think she still looked cute though, in her pink and white striped tank top and denim shorts. Her hair was tied back in its usual ponytail today, complete with a pink hair tie to match her top. Maybe not as sexy as the lingerie she had worn for him the night they had their first time together, of course. But still looking great. Not that he'd ever seen her look anything less than great.
Alvin walked up the stairs on the porch until he was across from Brittany's spot on the bench.
"Hey Brittany." Alvin spoke up.
The auburn-haired Chipette glanced up from her knee and then looked at her boyfriend at the sound of her name.
"Hey Alvin." Brittany replied, sounding a little surprised. "What's up?"
"I think we should talk." Alvin stated in a serious tone that Brittany wasn't used to hearing from him.
Brittany nodded her head as she removed the ice pack from her knee and set it down, concern evident on her face.
She patted the spot on the bench next to her, inviting Alvin to sit there. The teenage Chipmunk did just that.
"Listen" He started out. "You've got a lot going on in your life right now. And with school starting up again in a couple of weeks, I'm gonna have a lot on my plate too. I think maybe it's best if we..."
Brittany's ice blue eyes widened, suddenly much more alert now. She knew exactly where this conversation was heading.
"Are you breaking up with me?" The Chipette asked in disbelief.
"Britt, we're sixteen. Life shouldn't be this hard."
"So that's it? You're just gonna throw away everything we've built over the last four years? You're leaving me right after I... gave myself to you like that?"
Then it dawned on her.
"That's all I ever meant to you." Brittany said through gritted teeth, her hands forming fists. "You used me for sex! And now that you finally got what you wanted, you're abandoning me. You told me you loved me! But that was a lie just to make sure you'd get laid, wasn't it?"
"No!" Alvin protested. "That's not it! That night meant everything to me. Still does. And I still love you, Brittany. It's just not..."
"Save it!" The pink-clad Chipette shouted, cutting him off.
She could feel the tears threatening to spill from her eyes. But she refused to let Alvin see her cry. And she'd be damned if he knew that HE was the one who made her cry!
"You know," she continued, her voice still seething with rage. "I've always forgiven you when you would flirt with other girls right in front of me. Even though I wanted to kill Lindsay every time I saw her at rehearsals up until I got hurt, I still trusted you because I knew you would never do anything to hurt me. But now..."
"Brittany!" Alvin responded, frantically. "You know nothing ever happened between me and Lindsay. This has absolutely nothing to do with her."
"You're right, it doesn't. You took my virginity, Alvin! A choice I made because I thought you were better than all those guys who leave their girlfriends right after sleeping with them. But I was wrong. Guess the flirting should have been a major red flag. Well, congratulations Alvin! You're a free man now. Now you can go off and screw all the girls in our school this year!"
"Britt..." Alvin reached to put a comforting hand on Brittany's shoulder, but she pulled back in response.
"No, seriously. You can go now."
Brittany's eyes were now burning with unshed tears and she knew she wouldn't be able to fight them off much longer.
"But Brittany..."
"Just leave, Alvin!" The Chipette screamed at the top of her lungs.
Alvin felt his heart sink, but got up and reluctantly walked away from his ex-girlfriend. He knew full well Brittany was going to start a scene that would draw the attention of everyone in the neighborhood if he stayed any longer. That really had not gone as well as he had hoped. Brittany wouldn't even give him a chance to explain himself! But despite all that, he felt as if he had been stabbed right in the heart himself. He couldn't help but wonder if he had just made the biggest mistake of his life.
But the young Chipmunk shook his head.
"This is the right thing to do." He thought. "Continuing our relationship wouldn't have been fair to either of us. Brittany will see that in time."
Once Alvin was back inside his own house, Brittany let all the tears she had been holding back fall.
She couldn't believe it. After all the time and effort she had put into their relationship, Alvin had walked out of her life so easily. She now regretted giving herself to him so soon. But was four years really that soon?
Brittany had always believed she and Alvin would be together forever. Especially since he appeared to be so supportive of her up until this point. She felt so betrayed. She felt so... vulnerable right now. And she hated it!
Then the heartbroken Chipette realized she was still outside. She hastily strapped her knee brace back on and hobbled into her own house, up the stairs and into her room. She locked the door behind her and crashed onto her bed, allowing herself to cry her eyes out. She wasn't sure how long this went on for, but it was a while.
And her downward spiral would only continue from this point on.
A/N: Wow, things really heated up between Alvin and Brittany there, right? In more ways than one! Sorry if you were hoping for smut, but I really want to try to keep this story T rated. And I'm SO sorry for breaking up my favorite AATC couple! I hated doing it. But don't worry, I'm a huge Alvittany fan myself and I did promise this would be an Alvittany story. So just hang in there!
The next chapter will take a darker turn for Brittany.
As always, your feedback means so much to me. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this chapter!
