Trigger Warnings: Language and some steamy smooching

The Painful Truth - Chapter 23: A New Haninozuka

.

Thursday, October 13:

After Breakfast, Haninozuka Hot Springs Private Resort:

Here goes everything.

I set my teacup down and cleared my throat. "Cho-chan and I thought that if we started with the easier things, we'd get most of the contract finished before lunch and leave plenty of time for the parts that might be harder."

"Excellent idea, Mitsukuni. Where would you like to start?"

"Finances."

With Cho-chan not bringing in any part of her family's business and her not having any businesses of her own, it should be simple.

Father asked our lawyer to read those parts, and we followed along on our copies. The Haninozuka's will finance our living arrangements and we'll have a generous allowance until I'm named head. Then we'll have access to all the family money. Those clauses are standard, and no one had any issues.

However, I'd talked to Tama-chan, and he'd given me an idea.

"There's one clause I'd like to have added."

The paralegal at the side table picked up her pen and was ready. Everyone was studying me. Cho-chan squeezed my hand. I don't know why I'm nervous. This is the simple part.

"Bun Bun's bakeries was purchased by me and is run separately from the family businesses. I'd like it to be clear that it belongs to me and not the family and therefore is not included in the family inheritance to the heir. I'd like to decide who to pass it on to, or the money from it if I decide to sell."

"That shouldn't be a problem," Father said, nodding to our lawyer.

"That clause should include that any business started by either of us with our own money is not included in the family businesses and belongs to either of us individually or as a couple depending on how it was started."

"Do you anticipate starting a business, Nomura?"

"Not at the moment, Father, but I'd like the option and the ability to leave it to a daughter if I wish."

She gave me the sweetest smile when all our parents agreed, and the lawyers said they'd have it drafted right away.

.

I sat back and watched my daughter as the lawyer read over the clauses concerning divorce. They hadn't changed since we'd discussed it before. Infidelity or abuse being the only reasons allowing for one. And I thought the terms were more than fair. Much more than they were in Daizo's and my contract.

"This infidelity clause allows Haninozuka Mitsukuni a private relationship with a Geisha. If that relationship becomes public, Cho Nomura can decide to initiate divorce proceedings."

"Father!"

"But?" Nomura looked at me then Mitsukuni-kun with betrayal.

"Stop," Yorihisa held up his hand. "Remove the Geisha clause completely. Mitsukuni and I have discussed this already." He turned to the kids, "I apologize, Nomura-chan. I approved the removal of the clause but forgot to notify our lawyer."

Mitsukuni-kun glared at his father then put his arm around Nomura, "I'm sorry you had to hear that again, Cho-chan, but it will not be part of the contract."

She bounced back quicker than I would have. With a nod and a smile, she dismissed the incident. "I understand. Thank you for clarifying."

"Of course."

The rest of the finance discussion went without a hitch.

.

…two hours later…

I'll freely admit I wasn't impressed by Haninozuka Mitsukuni when I first met him. Pink bunny. Shorter than Nomura. And that childlike attitude…

Over the last several months, he's completely changed my opinion of him for the better. I am no longer worried that my daughter will have to raise him along with their children, that she will be the only adult in the relationship.

The Haninozuka's have been generous so far with the contract and taking care of the couple financially. Nomura will never worry about money, never worry about him being unfaithful, never worry about him tossing her aside. The contract demands none of the Cho businesses, so her brother will inherit everything.

So far, everything is just as it should be.

"Next, kids!"

I will not think about what will have to happen for my daughter to have children. I'm not ready for that. She's still my little girl.

Yorihisa straightened in his seat, "There must be children, and the next set of clauses assure that."

Looking over my notes, I doublechecked that Mie and I had no issues with any of these clauses and said as much.

"Cho-chan and I don't either, Father. We both want a big family."

"How big is big?" Kumi asked.

Nomura blushed, "Honey-kun wants a dozen, but I suggested we start with six and see how we feel then."

Six? Well, she's always said she wanted children.

Mie surprised me when she spoke up, "There's nothing mentioned about our relationship with our grandchildren. Is that typical?"

.

I'd been trying not to rub my belly as we discussed this, not wanting to give anything away to Mitsukuni. Yes, we've been discussing their children, but until she said the word 'grandchildren', it hadn't sunk in.

"That doesn't sound right," I mumbled as I reached out and pulled my copy of the contract closer. If we were discussing my daughter, I'd want access to my grandchildren spelled out. Because I was born a Morinozuka, my parents seeing their grandchildren was never an issue, so it wasn't in our contract.

"Are you suggesting the Haninozuka's would deny you the ability to see your grandchildren?"

My head jerked up towards Yorihisa. That tone…suggesting she was questioning his honor. I reached under the table and put my hand on his arm in warning.

Mie-san just stared at him in shock.

I need to stop this. "I'm sure we can include your access to your grandchildren. No one wants to deny them their grandparents."

Nomura-chan and Mitsukuni were watching us like a tennis match, her eyes getting bigger and bigger and his getting harder and harder.

"Definitely, Mie-san," my son spoke up, shooting his father a look, "our children will have all four of you in their lives." Nomura-chan nodded.

I asked the lawyer what types of clauses were standard, and we all discussed them until the language was hammered out. By that time, all the tension was gone.

.

Lunch was approaching, and I'd been so nervous I hadn't eaten much breakfast. I agreed to everything about our children, so when the lawyers summarized the clauses, only certain phrases popped out.

"…male heir…

"…all education provided at Ouran or equivalent school…

"…trust fund started at birth via family financing…

"…grandparents not denied access without legal reason…

"…should either parent pass away, children not eligible to be adopted by new spouse…"

The lawyer finished, and Honey-kun stood up, "Thank you all for working together. Let's have lunch."

I gave him a big kiss. I'll make sure he eats his vegetables then give him the chocolate fudge cake I baked yesterday before we left.

Lunch, Ouran High School:

"May I speak with you for a moment, Koizumi?"

I sent my friends on ahead and gave Chika my full attention. Could this be what I've been waiting for? I'd just about given up. He's never really seemed interested, but I wasn't sure if that was because he isn't, or he's shy with girls.

He led me away from the dining hall door and stood there shuffling his feet. This Olympic gold medalist is nervous!

"I'd like to tell you something, and if you could wait until I'm finished before replying…"

"Of course, I can."

He took a deep breath and looked me in the eyes, "You're a good person, Koizumi. We've known each other for a while, starting with the Host Club."

When he hesitated, I gave him a small smile of encouragement.

Another deep breath, and he ran his hand through his hair. "I'm not sure how you feel about me, but I wanted to let you know how I feel about you."

He's too hesitant. Too fidgety. I don't think this is what I hope it is.

"I think you're nice and kind and smart and…"

This time after the deep breath he squared his shoulders in determination. "I'd like to think we're friends," I nodded, "and I like having you as a friend."

Dammit.

"But I don't see us as a couple. I like spending time with you, but I've been avoiding you lately. I just don't want to give you the wrong impression."

Well, at least he respects me enough to tell me outright.

He must have picked up on my disappointment because he started talking so fast. "I think you're a great person, and I want to be friends, but I don't want to lead you on. I want to be sure you know that I don't feel that way towards you and never will…"

I reached out and put my hand on his arm, "Chika, I understand."

"You do?"

"I do." My turn for a deep breath. "I won't say I'm not disappointed, because I thought we clicked as a couple, but if you don't, then you don't. It's as simple as that."

And I guess it is, really. No sense going after someone who will never feel that way. Besides, my parents could always arrange something if I don't find the right guy first.

But…

"But I do still want to be your friend. You're a great person too, Chika. You're smart and funny, and I enjoy spending time with you. Who knows," I shrugged, "maybe we'll enjoy being friends more now that being a couple isn't hanging over us."

"Really?"

"Yes." I grabbed his arm and started walking towards the dining hall door. "Let's study for that test next week."

I turned back when he resisted. "You understand that we'll never be…?"

"Yes." I smiled and pulled on his arm again, "Come on. You can help me with this formula that's always tripping me up."

.

When Koizumi and I sat down with our lunches and pulled out our trigonometry, I saw Haruhi look over. I gave her a quick thumbs up and turned back to study.

What a relief.

She could have not taken it well. She could have made a scene. Not that I really expected that. I don't really think I'd be friends with someone that would do anything like that.

But she took it so well and really does seem like she understands.

.

"Check out Chika over there," Hika grinned and elbowed me in the ribs. "Looks like he finally took my advice and there's another couple in the group."

Haruhi just shook her head, "They're just friends. That's what he wanted, and it looks like she took it fine."

"He dumped her?"

That got Ritsu a hard stare. "They were never dating, so it's impossible for him to have 'dumped' her, Asshole."

"Oh."

"Guys," Haruhi glared at all of us, "leave it alone. Chika wasn't interested in her that way, so he told her. Obviously, she's fine with it, and they'll be friends. Just drop it."

"Fine, but there has to be someone in this school he's interested in."

That's when she set her elbows on the table, laced her fingers together, and dropped her chin on them, "Worry about your own love life."

"Ouch, she got you there, Hika."

"You're one to talk, Little Brother. I don't see you dating anyone either."

"Yeah, well, I'm busy."

"So am I."

"Yeah, right. With what?"

"Stuff."

"Guys…?"

After Lunch, Haninozuka Hot Springs Private Resort:

And now for the parts I'm most worried about.

These are the sections Yorihisa-san says can't be changed.

"Let's discuss the wedding."

The lawyer started reading the clauses, and I broke in as soon as he said it would be on the Haninozuka estate.

"Does it have to be held there?"

"It's tradition."

He nodded to the lawyer to continue, but I broke in again. "And if I rather it be held somewhere else?"

"Such as?"

"A Shinto shrine. There isn't one on the estate."

.

Sensing a blowup, I leaned close to my husband and whispered, "Remember, everything's on the table. Does having it on the estate matter that much? What standing do the Haninozuka's lose by having it at a shrine?"

It really doesn't matter where they get married, as long as it isn't an embarrassment politically, and a shrine wouldn't be.

Now my stubborn husband just needs to realize that.

"Do you have a shrine in mind?"

"The Meiji Shrine."

"Excellent choice, Nomura-chan." I caught Yorihisa's eyes, "The royal family has held weddings there."

He took the hint and compromised. "Could the reception be held on the estate?"

The kids looked at each other then back at us. "Yes, thank you."

"Excellent," I clapped my hands, "then that's all set."

"Actually…" I gestured for Nomura-chan to continue. "Would it be possible to leave out as many details as possible from the contract. I'd like to make as many decisions as possible."

I could feel the steam building back up, so I cut him off. "I don't see why that can't be done. However, since this wedding will be so political, certain decisions will need approval by our PR department and some, if not all, of the four parents."

"That's fine, Kumi-san. All I ask is to be involved as possible in my own wedding."

Yorihisa nodded, "As long as protocols are observed and decisions are coordinated with the appropriate people, I'll accept that." He gave the lawyers orders to adjust the contract to describe the decision-making process and approvals needed.

"Thank you," I whispered. "I didn't get to plan much of my own, and I've always regretted it."

.

Mother, Mie-san, and Cho-chan talked about hiring a wedding planner that knows all the protocols. As long as we're married at the end of the day, I really don't care what the wedding is like.

There just better be enough cake.

After Classes, Inokuma Agency Offices:

After being blindsided one too many times, Akira and I decided that one of us would always be with Haruhi when she met with her agent. Not to control the meeting. She's grown up enough to run her life. But to bring a broader perspective and think of things neither of them might. We also insisted her assistant and PPD Head attend these meetings as well for the same reasons.

I never want to be caught out again like we were at the bookstore or the cemetery.

"Your interview on the news show was very well received. Both you and Himura-sama were excellent."

"It wasn't that hard," she sighed. "The panel did all the talking. I just had to sit there and not look bored."

"And you did a great job doing that."

He doesn't know her well, but it shouldn't be long before he realizes the usual flattery he must have to give to his other clients is wasted on her.

"We discussed doing a few more interviews, and I have a list of suggestions." We selected two teen publications, one magazine and one on-line.

"I'm fine doing these interviews as long as they realize I do not want to discuss the kidnapping." Her voice was firmer than I'd expected. "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was collateral damage. If they want to talk about trafficking, they need to interview Shinobu and the professionals at Lighthouse and Kakurega. I have nothing to say; I wasn't involved."

"You must understand, Fujioka-sama, you're in demand now because of this most recent news."

"I understand," and she gave him a smirk that would rival the older twin, "but just because that's what gets me in the door, doesn't mean that's what I have to discuss, right?"

His eyes brightened, "Yes, that's right." He picked up his pen, "So, what is it you'd like to discuss?"

.

If I'm going to have to give these stupid interviews, I will make them count. "Kaoru's line, On Okuri, Petto Chinmi, and, of course, condoms and tampons." I leaned back and adjusted the lapels of my uniform jacket. I still prefer the boy's jacket. It was longer. "I'll discuss Lighthouse and Kakurega in their context with On Okuri and how successful the ball was. I will also thank everyone that donated and sent gifts during our recovery. But I won't steal Shinobu's cause."

"I'll make sure they're aware of your conditions. They might counter and ask for a dual interview."

"Then they need to check with their marking people. Separate interviews in different issues would be better for sales."

"Excellent point."

I really have learned a lot about business in the last year. All thanks to Takashi, Kaoru, and Kyoya-senpai, even if he did practically trap me into it.

"Both Lighthouse and Kakurega have expressed interest in interviewing you for their next newsletters and fundraising campaigns."

I held up my hand, "Stop. I will not be doing interviews for them alone. If they want to discuss donations, I'll do an interview with other members of the On Okuri Board. If they want to discuss the current ring takedown, I'll do the interview with Shinobu as long as she's the focus. Because of her…background…I don't have a problem lending her any credibility she needs, but this was her fight, not mine."

.

I will not roll my eyes. I will not sigh.

I've never had a client before that didn't want to milk their publicity for all it's worth. Morinozuka-sama's got a small smile playing on her face that tells me she knows exactly what I'm thinking.

Best to do what Fujioka-sama wants and make the best of it on the back end. Besides, the more exclusive she is, the bigger the splash when she does something.

"Alright. I'll work with Takemoto-san, her agent, to set up those interviews."

"Would it be possible to do both organizations at the same time?"

"We can schedule them on the same afternoon, but they will want you wearing different things for their marketing materials and articles."

"Once you know the dates, let Kaoru's staff know. I'm sure he'll be glad to dress me twice," she said with an eye roll.

My assistant made a note, and I moved on to the last item on the agenda. "The only thing left is the fashion show tomorrow night."

"What about it?"

"We've coordinated with Hitachiin-san's staff. He'll be escorting you down the red carpet and has assured us that he'll handle any questions unless you wish to answer."

"Good."

"I apologize if my staff hasn't informed you, but Akira and I will also be attending. We want to show our support for Haruhi-chan." I didn't miss the implication. They want everyone to be reminded that she's the ward of the Morinozuka's and to be respectful. Having them there does nothing but help her image.

"We were informed. Please let me know if you need any support from us."

"I don't believe we will, but I'll let you know if we think of something."

I nodded and turned back to Fujioka-sama. "There've been incidents in the past with overzealous fans, so Hitachiin Fashions held a lottery for spots in a selfie area. Those fans that were selected have undergone a security pre-screening and will be searched prior to being allowed near the carpet. Kawai," I gestured to my assistant, "will be managing it along with Hitachiin-san's assistant, Mao."

Her shoulders slumped, "And what do I have to do?"

At the same time Morinozuka-sama asked, "How many fans will there be?"

"Twenty-five fans were selected. They were guaranteed an autograph and a selfie…"

She held up her right hand and sighed, "I can't sign them now."

"We know. We have some from before."

"They are responsible for bringing a camera and taking their own selfies. You just have to stand next to them and smile."

"Is Kaoru included in all this mess?"

"Yes. It will be up to the fan if they want one or both of you in their selfie."

She heaved a big sigh, "Fine. Whatever." Then I heard her mumble under her breath, "For Kaoru." That kid better realize that his line would have never taken off like it did without her.

"I'll be shadowing you down the carpet ready to intercede on your behalf if needed."

"What would cause that?"

"Inappropriate interview question, some type of security incident, answering follow up questions that you don't have time for," and cleaning up anything Hitachiin-san says that makes you look bad, though I will admit he doesn't do that very often.

"And Kaoru knows this?"

"Kawai's spoken to his staff."

She looked around the room and asked, "Anything else?"

"Just the afterparty carpet."

"Takashi is escorting me. He'll pick me up in his limo from the show and walk me down the carpet at Ranka's. We won't be taking questions." Her hard eyes glared at me, "That's non-negotiable."

"That's fine."

Late Afternoon, Haninozuka Hot Springs Private Resort:

We'd stepped away from the table for a break. Most everything is finalized now.

I think Yorihisa-san and I both thought they would want many more changes than they've asked for. It comes down to them wanting a say and us not taking them seriously.

There's not much left except the expectations of them while he's the heir. Mie and I don't have any comments on this section, and I don't know why they wanted it saved for the afternoon. It should be simple.

"Alright. If everyone could take their seats, we'll get through this last section quickly." Obviously, Yorihisa-san doesn't have issues with it either.

As with the rest of the contract, we went clause by clause.

"The couple will reside in the family home on the Haninozuka estate. They will be given their own wing to be redecorated to their specifications."

"Father, Cho-chan and I don't want to live on the estate."

"Nonsense. Why wouldn't you want to live in the family home?"

"Well," then he flushed bright red, and I had to remind myself that my daughter would be a married woman and it's acceptable for them to do what he's blushing over, "we'll be newlyweds and will want privacy."

"You'll have your own wing."

.

Cho-chan took a breath to argue again, but I jumped in. He's my father. I can fight this battle. "Father, Cho-chan and I want to live in the downtown apartment for at least the first five years, or until our first child."

"As the heir, I need you on the estate."

"I'm the heir now and live off the estate in an apartment with Takashi."

"That's different."

"I don't see how."

"You'll be done with college and working for the family."

"And will therefore see you in the office on a regular basis."

"There is no reason for it, Mitsukuni." Great. Now he's using that voice he uses when someone does something stupid in the dojo.

"We believe there is."

"Well, I don't…"

"Yorihisa," Mother practically hissed at him, "may we speak in private?"

"Now?"

"Yes."

They stood up and left the room.

"It will be alright, Cho-chan. Mother will fix this," and I squeezed her hand three times.

.

"What is it, Kumi?"

"You're being stubborn for no reason. Let them live in the apartment."

"But we lived just fine as newlyweds in our own wing."

"We aren't them, Yorihisa."

"But…"

I reached out and brought his hand to my stomach. "Need I remind you that this child was conceived in the estate pool? And wouldn't have been if the boys hadn't been living over at the Morinozuka's?"

"That's different…"

"No. It isn't. Married couples need their privacy. Especially at the beginning."

"We were fine."

I sighed and realized I'm going to have to confess something I never wanted to. "You might have been, but I was worried someone would barge in the door every time you touched me. Your mother didn't have much in the way of boundaries."

He stared at me for several moments then burst out laughing, "She didn't, did she?"

.

Kumi and I walked back into the room and before I even sat down, I let them know our decision. "You can live in the apartment."

Nomura-chan squealed and bounced in her seat.

"It hasn't been updated in almost a decade, so you can redecorate prior to the wedding and then design your wing on the estate closer to when you'll move in."

"Thank you. Thank you so much."

"Yes, thank you."

Once the lawyers stopped scribbling, they read the next clause.

Turns out that was the only one they had an issue with.

We were done in plenty of time for dinner.

.

.

Dinner, Machida Squirrel Garden:

"Hold still…"

I held up a seed and tried to distract it. We hadn't even thought about the squirrels climbing up onto our heads.

"You're doing great. I think I've got him…"

Yuki-chan stood ramrod straight, eyes squeezed tightly shut. Good thing Shinobu isn't here with her gun.

"Finally…"

As soon as that fat squirrel took the seed and jumped down, her shoulders slumped as she bent forward like her strings had been cut. I ran my fingers through her hair to smooth it out. He didn't leave any surprises.

"There's a stall over there. Do you want to get a hat?"

"Yes, please."

Of course, the only ones they had looked like squirrels themselves. And because I didn't want squirrel shit in my hair, I bought one too.

"There must be hundreds." Her head swiveled back and forth. "Look, Guinea pigs!" and she took my hand and started weaving in and out of the crowd headed for their enclosure.

When we got over to them, we found a small racetrack where you could pick one and race them against ones other people picked. We decided to stand back and watch a bunch of kids race their rodents.

Maybe I'm going too far with this living our childhood over thing. Here I am, one of the top echelon of Japanese elite, one of the wealthiest families in the country, and I'm here with my fiancée at a public garden full of squirrels and kids.

Then she turned, and I saw her face. And that smile.

She never got to do anything like this when she was a kid. And she's glowing.

"This is fun. Thanks."

I bent down and kissed her, "You're welcome."

.

Random Twitter Account: look who's out on a date with the common people…Ootori Akito and Ito Yuki. Wish someone would kiss me like that. #Yukito #OotoriAkito #ItoYuki #MachidaSquirrelGarden [pic of their kiss with the park in the background]

Response: So hot…But with his money, what are they doing there?

.

"He's so soft."

Akito-kun held the bunny up to my face and brushed my cheek with his fur. "I'm sorry, you ate all the lettuce," I told it.

"Yuki-sama?"

I'm getting used to Numata but after switching guards twice recently, I'm having a harder time warming up to him than I thought. It's just too much change too fast. Especially after the babysitter guards my father used for me.

"Yes?"

"You've been spotted and geotagged."

"How many?" Akito sounded worried.

"Under twenty so far."

"Shit."

"But why do they care? I'm not popular with the public like Haruhi or the twins."

He put his arm around me, "But we both have been seen with them a lot recently, and with the ball, we're more popular."

"Plus the media leak," Numata grumbled, and I shivered. "It wasn't your fault, Yuki-sama, but you have a bigger profile because of it."

"Do we need to leave?"

Akito-kun did his best to smile like it didn't matter, "I'm getting hungry anyway. How about you?"

At least we got to spend about an hour here. "Dinner sounds good."

He handed the bunny off to a little girl and security led us out of the park and back to the limo.

We decided to go back to the Ootori estate for dinner.

Evening, Haninozuka Hot Springs Private Resort:

Dinner was a huge celebration. The contract was done!

But after, Cho-chan and I wanted to be alone, so we changed into our swimsuits and headed for the mixed gender section of the hot springs.

"I can't believe it's done."

"I know. It was so easy, I'm not sure why we thought we'd have to elope."

"Once we all sat down and agreed to listen, I think they realized we weren't asking for anything unreasonable."

"And now," I leaned forward and kissed her cheek, "I need to plan a proposal."

"Any ideas?" She's so cute.

"A few. But it will be a surprise."

I leaned forward and kissed her pout. "Don't worry. I'm sure you'll love it."

"I love you."

"I love you, too."

.

It's finally done.

The contract is done, and we're getting married.

I'm marrying the love of my life and not some random man father picked out. Someone who will be my partner. Someone to share children with. Someone to grow old with.

Slowly. Slowly so I didn't scare him off. Slowly, I turned to face him and straddled his lap. I slipped my arms around his neck and started nibbling on his ear.

"Cho-chan!" It came out as a strangled cry. But he wasn't scared.

"Kiss me, Honey-kun. My wonderful future fiancé. Kiss me."

And he did.

.

Her legs are so soft, so silky, gliding against mine.

My hands slipped down through the water and grabbed her hips. Her bikini's so small, I'm only touching skin.

Nothing's ever felt this good.

Is this what it's like?

Is this what it will be like forever?

My tongue touched hers. No icing. This is what my Cho-chan tastes like. She's delicious.

.

I couldn't help it. My back arched and my breasts touched his chest. The only thing between us is my bikini.

His chest, hardened from martial arts, pressed against them.

I could do this forever.

.

How was I never interested in doing this?

I never wanted to even think about these things until I met Cho-chan.

And now she's here, and I'm never letting her go.

.

I just needed him to get over his shyness.

We don't need icing. We don't need cake.

We just need each other.

.

I'm going to get the biggest ring I can find and propose right away.

Why do we have to wait so long to have the wedding?

.

"Nomura? Mitsukuni-kun? Are you still in here? You don't want to prune."

I walked in in time to see her push back from him and slide backwards. I ignored his hands in his lap.

A mother's instincts are never wrong.

"Why don't you two get changed and watch a movie or something?"

I might not be able to keep them apart, but I can get them to put more clothes on.

Ah, to be young again.

.

.

Evening, Ootori Estate:

"Looks good."

"You sure you like the color?"

"Yes, I do." I'd been prepared to like whatever she chose for our wing, but I actually do like the soft gray-green. Frankly, it's more mature than I was expecting. "Do you?"

She tilted her head, "Of course."

"I mean, do you like it personally or are you taking advice from the decorator that you don't like."

"Oh." She turned back to the walls of the library, "The decorator did have to talk me out of the purple, but I guess I like this."

What?

"Purple?"

Then the little minx turned around and grinned, "Gotcha!" The look on my face must have been priceless because she burst out laughing. It's so infectious, I joined her.

.

When we finally caught our breaths, he reached out and put his hand on my shoulder, "Taking advice from the decorator is fine, but I do want you to like this as well. It's your home."

"It's our home. And I'm seventeen. I'm listening to the decorator, but the final decisions are mine." I leaned a little closer to him, "They're helping me not make immature decisions while keeping to things we'll both like. I'm happy with the way it's turning out."

"As long as you're happy."

"I am." I gave him a quick kiss, "Thanks for worrying. Besides," I smiled, "my private office lounge is done in purples. It will be easy to change as I get older and my tastes change. Which reminds me," I took his hand and pulled him towards the library door, "I need some ideas for your office."

.

Holy shit…

If I didn't know better, I'd swear she's been practicing.

She's got me sprawled across my office sofa, her hand down my pants, and my eyes rolled back in my head.

"I love you, Akito-kun."

Oh, shit…don't stop…

I want her naked. In my bed. For a week.

How am I ever going to wait for her birthday?

.

He's shaking all over.

All I can see are the whites of his eyes.

Apparently reading all that mature fan fiction is coming in handy.

Pun intended.

Evening, Library, Morinozuka Estate:

"Do you see my green pen anywhere?"

Takashi bent over and picked it up off the floor. "Here."

"Thanks. I must have knocked it off."

I carefully wrapped my fingers around it and angled it on the paper. The physical therapist told me I could start writing tonight. But only if I did just a little and took breaks.

I tried a few words, and my hand got tired more quickly than I thought it would.

"Dammit."

Takashi looked up from his laptop, "Are you alright?"

"I thought I'd be able to just start writing again with no problem, but it's harder than I expected."

"You were stabbed, and the knife was in your hand for hours." I don't like the pity in his eyes. "It's not a simple injury to recover from."

That really doesn't make this any easier.

Another couple of words and I was ready to quit. I used to be able to write for hours. I haven't written a letter to Mom and Dad since before the ball.

This hand is practically useless.

"Haruhi?" I looked up at him, "You will get better. Stick with the therapy and have patience."

I'm not an idiot. I know that.

But aren't I allowed to get discouraged and upset?

I'm so tired.

That reminds me…

"Thank you for last night." I'm sure my smile is tired. "I haven't slept that well since before…"

"You're welcome."

I couldn't believe I woke up still curled up on the sofa using his lap as a pillow. He didn't even get up and go to bed. Just let me sleep, safe with him there.

"I wish we could do that every night." His eyes opened wide in surprise, and I felt my face instantly heat up. "What I meant was…"

"I know what you meant." He tilted his head and smiled, "I wish we could too. I want to help you."

"You did."

The silence got awkward with the two of us just staring at each other, so I picked up my pen to try again.

.

I'd do anything to chase the nightmares away.

I'd hold you all night long and keep you safe.

And if society had a problem with that, I'd marry you and never ask for anything more than to hold you at night.

"I forgot to ask. Did you find an assistant?"

"I did. I wasn't going to hire another married man, but Mother's assistant pointed out the benefits of this candidate."

"They must be good."

"Yes. He's been a personal assistant to a Diet member and three large company CEO's."

"Why is he looking for a new position?"

"He married rather late in life (he's in his late thirties) and they just had their first child. He was looking for a position with more regular hours."

"How old is the baby?"

"Yumi-chan is almost two. He must have shown me a dozen pictures," I smiled remembering the fat, pink cheeks.

"Sound stable. Sounds like someone who would not want to jeopardize his position by doing something stupid."

"Aoi's thoughts exactly. Once I met Eto-san, it was an easy choice."

"Will they live in the apartment in your building?"

I nodded. "He starts next Wednesday. I'm giving them a few days to redecorate and move in."

"Once he starts, we'll have to introduce him to Honami-san. The more time we spend together, the more time our assistants will." She tilted her head and laughed, "That sounds so weird…our assistants."

I smiled along with her, thinking about how my parent's assistants work well together.

I decided to change the subject before I got too gooey to think.

"Are you ready for tomorrow night?"

"I suppose," she growled and dropped her pen. "There was a lottery held for spots in a selfie pit. I have to give a selfie to every winner."

I wasn't told about this. "How many?"

"Twenty-five."

"Does Nagata know?"

"Yes. He was at the meeting today and was fully briefed. They're all screened first, so there won't be any problems."

"Maybe I should attend with you."

"No."

"Haruhi…"

"No, Takashi. We talked about this. The Black Onion Squad and Morinozuka security are in charge of both red carpets. Nagata will be on the carpet with me. They're doing it like they did for the ball. Nothing's going to happen." She arched her eyebrow and glared at me, "Or do you not trust your own security?"

I don't.

Look what they let happen to you.

But this is different. This is bigger. This has better coverage, and they're ready.

I can't hover over her every minute of every day. No matter how much I want to.

"Alright. I'll pick you up at the back door after the show and escort you to Ranka's."

She smiled softly at me, "That part I'm looking forward to."

Friday, October 14:

Breakfast, Coffee Shop, Near Petto Chinmi:

His hands. Strong. Under my thighs. Holding me up.

My back. Pressed against the car, arching with the curve.

My legs. Wrapped around his waist. Holding him close.

And those lips. Fire burning mine.

"Good morning, Fujioka-sama."

My eyes sprang open to see Tanaki-san sitting down across from me and signaling the waitress. "Large, black coffee."

Is my face red? I can't believe I zoned out fantasizing about Takashi.

But it was soooo good.

I walked him to his car in the garage last night to say goodbye, and he had me up and pressed against it in an instant.

It didn't keep the nightmares away though.

I took a huge gulp of my bottled tea and ate another doughnut. I'm in a sugar mood.

"You're here early."

Couldn't sleep. "Traffic was lighter than expected."

He nodded and gestured to the bag he set down next to me, "I brought the analysis breakdown for the new ads. The website and the store are both still above this time last year and predictions. Social media loves the billboards."

"Great." I pulled out the folder and leafed through it. I knew the billboards would be big, but he's got actual pictures of them next to highways. "They're huge."

"Still not as big as your fashion ones."

Crazy life.

He walked me through the sales numbers. "With this boost in revenue, we really should consider expanding our on-line presence. We're passed the point of being a brick-and-mortar line of boutiques. We're behind the curve for a huge webstore."

"Maybe…" I mumbled, still staring at the numbers, "but we don't want to be just another online pet store. There has to be something we can do that's different. Some market we could target or sellers we could showcase that's different."

"I'll have marketing look into it."

"Have them send out a request for ideas to all the staff. You never know where a brilliant idea can come from."

He took a few notes then looked up at me. I know that look. I'm going to hate this.

"I know you just had a shoot, but we need to think about winter ads."

Nuts.

"The sooner we get going, the less of a crunch later."

"I suppose." Don't suppose, Haruhi. Take a deep breath and run your company. "What's the agency say?"

"They want snow. They're thinking sled dogs, fire pits, skiing, and snow everywhere."

"Have them put together a proposal."

By now, we'd both finished our drinks and my doughnuts were gone. We were headed out the door when he asked, "You ready for the show tonight?"

I held back a growl.

After Classes, Ophthalmology Department, Tokyo Main:

"This is taking forever," he hissed at me. "How long do we have to wait? Your scans were done half an hour ago."

"Will you calm down, Asshole. We want them to be sure, don't we?"

"Yeah, but don't sit there and tell me you aren't about to rip the door off the hinges and start screaming for the doc."

"As weird as he is, he'd probably like it."

"No shit," he snorted.

Then we both proved what badass yakuza we are and jumped when the door opened.

"I have all your results." He dropped a huge file on the desk and sat down behind it. "Based on the MRI, CT, and my visual exam, you are back to normal. Fully healed."

"So…"

"So, I'm lifting all restrictions. I'll want to see you back in six months for a check unless something happens, then I want you back right away."

"So…"

"So, Asshole," I punched him in the arm, "our plans tonight are a go."

The lust in his eyes…Is that a drop of drool in the corner of his mouth?

.

About fucking time.

"See ya, Doc." And I scooped up my wife and tossed her over my shoulder. "And thanks!" I called back from halfway down the hall.

Early Dinner, Dining Room, Haninozuka Estate:

"Thank you for the dinner invitation, Kumi-san. I apologize for needing to leave early."

"It's no trouble at all, Haruhi-chan. We're glad everyone could make it."

When I called Umeko and told her Nomura-chan and Mie-san knew and I wanted to host a dinner to make the announcement, she reminded me that not only were she and Akira going to the fashion show, but that Haruhi-chan would need to leave at least an hour earlier than them to get ready.

"An early dinner and a quiet night sound good to me."

"Me, too," she sighed. "Hopefully tomorrow night."

.

This is so exciting. Any minute now, Kumi-san's going to tell Honey-kun and everyone else he's going to be a big brother again.

Ever since she told us, I've been fantasizing about being married and pregnant with our first. Honey-kun and I on the bed, his hand on by huge belly, both of us laughing when the baby kicks. Decorating the nursery.

Is it wrong that I've been thinking about names?

"This show is for the winter clothes?" Yorihisa-san asked.

"Yes. This is their debut to the buyers and the public. Some of the ads go live on Sunday."

"And you and Nomura-chan are attending tonight, Mitsukuni?"

"Yes, Father." He looked over and smiled at me, "Cho-chan's getting ready here so she doesn't have to go back to her estate."

"And Kaoru's got me wearing this adorable cream suit paired with a pink shirt and scarf. It's perfect."

"I'm sure you'll have a wonderful evening."

"We will. Honey-kun's driving us in the bunny car!"

His mother's eyes narrowed, "You cleared that with security, correct?"

"Yes, Mother. They're ready."

.

Something's strange here.

With everyone's schedule it's hard to find a night where dinner with this group works, but for Mother to schedule it when she knows Haruhi, Aunt Umeko, Uncle Akira, Takashi, Mitsukuni, and Cho are all going out after, there must be an important reason.

She doesn't seem upset. So, probably nothing bad.

If it was the business, the Morinozuka's wouldn't be here. Unless it's the dojos. But I'd know if something was going on with them. Or the Alien would. Or Satoshi.

We spent the first half of the dinner talking about the new marriage contract. The Alien and Cho went into way too much detail about negotiations and how they used the same pen to sign it. How they're going to use that pen to sign all their documents as a couple. Almost enough to make my ears bleed.

And there's still nervousness in the air.

So, what…?

Dessert had just been served when Mother leaned back and smiled at the table, "I'm sure you all are wondering why I insisted on holding this dinner even with the show tonight."

Nods all around, though I think Cho and my aunt and uncle might already know. She's not near excited enough about something she doesn't know about and they're showing no curiosity.

Mother reached over and took Father's hand. "Yorihisa and I are pregnant."

What?

.

Everything was silent for a few beats, then, "Yyyyeeeeesssssssssssssss!" Cho's squeal split the air and seemed to snap us all back to reality.

"A baby!"

"Congratulations."

"Wait," I glared at my parents, "did you already know?"

"We found out by accident, and they asked us to keep their secret."

"I'm going to have another baby brother!" Mitsukuni jumped up and ran around the table to pull his mother into a hug.

Chika followed him, "Hey! I'm not a baby, and it could be a girl."

By this time Taka and I'd made it over to Aunt Kumi and gave her a hug. "Congratulations! Another cousin."

"If you need anything, please let me know. I'd be glad to help," Haruhi said as she was pulled into the family group.

Family.

Guess ours is getting bigger again.

"Mother?"

"Don't even ask, Satoshi. I'm done."

"Fine."

Dinner, Love Hotel:

"These noodles are pretty good."

"For a love hotel?"

"For whatever. Yum." I watched as he slurped a particularly long noodle out of the bowl. It hit his nose before it disappeared. Pig.

But he's my pig.

"Is there some reason we started in one of the most boring love hotel rooms I've ever seen?" He looked around at the cream walls and wood floor, "It could be any hotel room anywhere."

"Why waste a fun room when I figured we'd be all over each other and not even notice anything but the bed."

Fuck…that smirk flips my stomach. "Point taken."

"You're not tired yet, are you?"

"Hell, no."

"Great. Because as soon as we're through with dinner here, we're moving down the hall."

"Shit. Does that mean we have to get dressed?"

"Why do you think I brought sweats?"

.

xXx

.

Early Evening, Haninozuka Estate:

"Thank you for dinner and congratulations again. I'm so excited for you."

I gave Kumi-san another hug then headed for the car Karou sent. Time for hair and makeup.

As I walked down the hall, I heard Chika's never-ending questions.

"Did you have enough dinner? Are you sure you aren't still hungry?"

"I'm full, thank you."

"What about dessert? Would you like one of Mitsukuni's cakes?"

"No, thank you," I could hear the suppressed smile in her voice.

"Hey, Chika-chan, don't offer my cakes to anyone else."

"She's your mother, you Alien!"

"But that doesn't mean she can eat my cakes…"

.

We were walking back to our estate when Mother asked me what I'm doing tonight.

"Neon."

"Is your homework done?"

"It's Friday night. I have all weekend."

"The sooner the better."

"Did you ask Haruhi if her homework is done?"

"I've never been concerned about her academic performance," Father barked.

Mother put a hand on his arm, "I'm sure Satoshi will finish it before Monday, right?" she shot me a warning look.

"Definitely."

"You are spending too much time there."

"He's sixteen. Let him have his fun, Akira."

I decided to get the hell out of there before she couldn't talk him out of stopping me. I started running for the mansion, "See you tomorrow!"

.

I waved goodbye to Haruhi as Karou's car took her down the driveway then climbed into my own to head back to the apartment. I had plenty of time before I had to pick her up at the end of the show for the afterparty.

But what to do?

What could I do that would take my mind off her security and allow the time to pass?

I had decided on a workout and meditation when a certain store came into view.

I'll stop and see if I can find something for her.

.

"Thank you for letting me get ready here, Kumi-san."

"It's no problem. Besides," I opened her guestroom door and followed her in, "this way I can see how good the two of you look before the carpet."

"I'm so excited. Kaoru's suits are always so flattering, even if they aren't very cute."

"Cute isn't what's needed in the boardroom, Nomura-chan."

"I suppose." It's a cute pout, but definitely not for the boardroom.

Late Evening, Red Carpet, Every Woman Winter Fashion Show:

"Welcome to everyone out there watching the live-stream. We are live at Hitachiin Kaoru's Every Woman's Winter Fashion Show. Tonight you'll see exclusive peeks at the upcoming winter line before the ads go live on Sunday.

"You're in for a special night. Movers and shakers from all over the Japanese fashion world will be here tonight to celebrate the third season of clothes for every businesswoman.

"Turning to the limo dropping off now, we can see…"

.

…thirty minutes later…

.

"Are you ready, Cho-chan?"

"Yes, and Kaoru even said you could play the jingle."

"Only once."

I pulled up slowly and put the bunny car in park. I can't believe they let me drive it here. And I'll drive it again to the afterparty.

"Bun Bun's Bakery" music jingle…

I walked around the front and opened Cho-chan's door.

I could hear the live-stream reporter, "And here we have Haninozuka Mitsukuni and Cho Nomura getting out of the famous bunny car. Last seen on the red carpet at the On Okuri Ball, the pink car features the mascot of Haninozuka's bakeries – Bun Bun. The cute, pink rabbit appears on several different models of cakes and cookies, along with several sizes of plushies."

That's more than I was hoping for, and certainly more than I was expecting. I wonder if she's a customer?

"And just look at Cho Nomura in that beautiful suit. Cream colored wool done in a skirt ending just above the knee and a short jacket ending at her waist. The rose pink shirt shows off her amazing golden hair, and if you look closely, you'll see the stripes in her scarf match Haninozuka's tie.

I'd closed the door, and we were walking towards her for a quick word when

SCREECH!

"My car!"

Late Evening, Love Hotel:

"Shut up and kiss me."

Then her hand pressed against my mouth. "I'm fine. Calm down."

I only managed one deep breath before I heard, "TAMA-CHAN! THAT'S MY CAR!"

"I'm so sorry, Honey-senpai."

He's on his knees, staring at the damage, "You crushed my tail! It's not fluffy anymore."

Cho came up and knelt beside him. "It's not that bad, Honey-kun. I'm sure it can be fixed in no time."

"Tamaki-kun?" My head swiveled towards my Renge-chan, "Next time, I drive."

"I wanted to drive us."

"And you will." He looked at me with such hopeful eyes. "Some other time."

"But my car…"

"It was custom made. I'm sure they still have the molds for everything. They'll just make another tail part and switch them out. It will be fine."

Late Evening, Akito's Rooms, Ootori Estate:

This is ridiculous. I'm a grown man. I've been dressing myself for decades.

But I'm going to meet my fiancée and walk a red carpet into a disco.

And I have nothing to wear.

Doesn't matter that it seems like I've done nothing but buy clothes since Yoshio died. Doesn't matter that I turned a lounge I never use into a second closet.

I still have nothing to wear.

Then my maid knocked on the door, "Akito-sama?"

"Yes?" I turned to find her standing there with a garment bag.

"This just arrived for you."

"Thank you."

I grabbed the card…

.

Must be hard being so old. Thought I'd help you out. Wear this tonight and Yuki won't be able to keep her hands off you.

Late Evening, Red Carpet, Every Woman Winter Fashion Show:

"And you must be Hitachiin Hikaru."

It's not much of a win if the reporter knows Kaoru's coming a few cars back with Haruhi, but whatever. "Congratulations. You just won the 'which one is Hikaru game," I said with a wink. The things I do for my little brother.

"And, of course, you're escorting Ito Yuki."

"I am," and I stepped back so the fashion photographers could get the shots of her they wanted. I snuck a look at my watch. Akito should be getting my surprise about now.

"Would you tell us about what she's wearing?"

Haruhi'd be insulted to be talked about like that, like she wasn't there, but Yuki's not used to this. She made me promise she wouldn't have to say anything.

"Yuki's wearing one of the new designs debuting tonight. The vest and skirt are made from a wool blend that prevents wrinkles and can be laundered at home. She's forgoing the jacket tonight, instead showcasing the versatility of the vest. It can be worn open or buttoned like she has it. With a shirt under it, a jacket over it, or even a cardigan sweater over it. And," I leaned forward towards the reporter, making sure my cute face was in her camera, "for those working in a more edgy environment, can be worn without anything under it."

Gotta give Kaoru credit. Not only does the suit work, but the green that's so dark it's almost black works perfectly on Yuki. "The purple and green checked blouse Yuki's wearing under it works with at least two suits from this winter line and a couple from the previous fall and summer lines."

"Thank you so much." I took Yuki's arm and started to walk away, but the reporter called me back. "When are you going to collaborate with your mother again?"

"Spring."

Late Evening, Red Carpet, Every Woman Winter Fashion Show:

"They're so graceful," I sighed while I watched Akira-ojisan help Umeko-obasan out of their limo two in front of us.

"I'd rather walk barefoot."

I heard Karou snort and then lean back in his seat. "Thanks for doing this."

"No problem."

"Hey." I turned to face him. His face was open, earnest. "I mean it. Thanks for this. For everything."

"You're welcome. And thank you."

"For?"

"Everything."

That earned me a kiss on the forehead, and we both looked at the screen when we heard Umeko-obasan's voice, "Akira and I are both proud of Haruhi-chan. She's exceptionally smart, caring, and the most loyal friend you'll ever find. We were and continue to be honored to be her guardians."

"Awww."

"Oh, stuff it," and I elbowed him in the ribs.

"One more car."

I took another deep breath and watched his parents get out of their limo directly in front of us. "Your mom's a natural."

"Where do you think I get it?"

Our car started rolling forward, and Kaoru grabbed my shoulders, "You look fantastic. Your hair's perfect. Makeup's pristine. Let's go make everyone want to be us."

"That has to be the corniest thing you've ever said."

Each had a couple in silhouette showing a different position. We'd already tried two we'd never seen before.

"There are websites, Ritsu. You really want that on your phone?"

"Yeah, like anyone could hack this thing."

"Just drop it and come here."

"I need a shower."

"No problem."

We were headed for the selfie lottery winners. Looks like a mosh pit.

"I thought Kawai-san and Mao were handling this."

"So did I."

Out of nowhere, a loud whistle startled the group. "Alright, Ladies. Line up like we discussed and be ready for your selfies!"

And then there were three groups, two on either side in the front and one in the back.

"Fujioka-sama, the group on the right wants just you in the picture. Hitachiin-sama, the group on the left. Once you're done with your individual groups, those in the back want both of you."

"Thanks, Kawai-san. Did they get the autographs already?"

"Yes, Fujioka-sama."

I gave Kaoru a quick smile and we headed to our fate.

.

"We'll, that wasn't that bad."

"No, our assistants had it managed to a microsecond."

"Definitely doing it that way again."

By this time, Haruhi and I were at the main doors, the last to go through. "Alright, turn around and one last wave for everyone and this red carpet is finished."

We spun, smiled, waved, and backed through the open doors.

Just like we've done it all our lives.

.

"Security base to all: End of red carpet. Close it down. Debrief tomorrow at 1400 via zoom. Have incident reports drafted and ready."

I flipped the switch and turned to Ogata-san in the chair next to me. We're in the BOS mobile command center a block away from the venue. "What did you think?"

"Some holes, some issues, but no job is perfect."

"True. Most important thing is no primary was affected and the media has no idea about the incidents we stopped."

"The only thing they saw was the Astin Martin crush the bunny."

"And there's nothing we could have done about that."

"Need to get that Suoh boy on a training course."

"Home for the night."

We'd all stood and were ready for anything.

"I need whoever is in charge now, all the members of my mother's team that are here, all the members of my father's team that are here, any available house guards, any available drivers…" Then he stopped, shook his head as if to clear it, then refocused, "Forget it. I need everyone available not actively guarding something here right now."

People started to scramble behind me, but I wanted to know. "May I ask why?"

"Mother's pregnant, and we're not ready."

"Not ready?" The entirety of the security force was informed tonight. She's only three months along. "Not ready for what?"

He stared at me like I'd grown a third head. "For. The. Baby."

"It's my understand she's only three months along."

"Then we should have been ready four months ago. How many people on staff have training to deliver a baby? How many have prenatal care knowledge? What extra protocols have been put into place for this situation? Have you arranged an ambulance to join her motorcade?"

It's going to be a long night.

Night, Second Floor Disco, Ranka's:

"I can't believe I hit his car."

It was hard not to dump a glass of champagne over his head. "Calm down, Boss. No one was hurt, and you probably gave his bakeries fifty-million-yen worth of free publicity."

"Hikaru's right, Tamaki-kun." Renge grabbed his wrists and pulled him up off the couch. "Now come dance with me."

"Better go, Boss. Smart men don't say no to their fiancée."

"Especially when they look like that."

Karou and I definitely agreed on one thing tonight. That we couldn't have topped Renge's outfit if we tried. Don't know where she found those shoes. Platforms. They had to be 10cm [~4in] before adding the 15cm [~6in] heels. Clunky with hollow heels and base. With water and fish. Haruhi about shit when she saw them until she realized they were fake. Add metallic bell bottoms that were riding so low they looked like they had to be taped on and a feathered tube top and you got the sexiest girl here. Yeah, Cho, Haruhi, and Yuki looked good, but Renge was making all the guys walk funny.

"Come on, Tamaki-kun. Dance with me."

Took the Boss a few minutes to find his voice when he first saw her. I think he might finally be calming down. "You're only dancing with me tonight, Renge-chan."

"And you're only dancing with me."

She turned away from him, pulled his hands to her hips, and led him to the floor.

That's when Haruhi caught my eye. "If you ever design something like that for me, I'll assume you've been taken over by pod-people."

.

"Have I told you you look amazing tonight?"

"At least four times but tell me again."

"You look amazing."

I took a sip of water and tried not to stare, but really, Yuki shouldn't wear something like that if she didn't want people staring.

Since the show was such a success, I decided I'd hang back and enjoy tonight rather than make sure I spoke with everyone and talked it up. After the last ten months, I deserved it.

So, I'm sitting at the back of the VIP section. It's raised so I have a great view of the entire room. Renge and Tamaki are out there dancing. He's doing his best to keep up with her crazy-ass disco moves while watching to see if her tube top slips. (I'm sure she taped it.) I'll keep it to myself, but tonight I think she's got the best ass in here.

I can think that. I'm in fashion.

Cho's wearing something straight out of Barbarella or some other campy space movie. Sequined mini-dress attached to a collar around her neck. And spiked go-go boots. Pink, of course. Honey can't keep his hands off her. Just keeps running them up and down her arms. Good thing they have that contract done. Maybe I should buy him some condoms. I don't think the store would sell them to him. They'd think he's still in middle school.

And then there's the odd couple sitting across from me. Yuki's got this crazy mini dress made out of plastic mirrored circles in red linked together. Totally see-through. And she's got a black bra and boy-shorts under it. They're made to be seen, but damn. Shiny, spiked, black stilettos. And Akito can't keep his tongue in his mouth.

Was surprised I approved of his outfit until Hika told me he sent it over. Leather pants in red so dark it's almost black. The shirt's the same color, but in breathable fabric. His long sleeves are rolled up to just below his elbow. He's finally starting to not look so much like the oldest guy around. And definitely doesn't look like a damn doctor tonight. Though who knows what they might be playing later…

"I'm going for more of those scallop things."

"Hn."

After Haruhi stepped away, I asked Mori, "You aren't going with her?"

"Don't want her to think I'm hovering."

"Probably best." He's just wearing black slacks and a dark gray shirt, sleeves like Akito's. No one really expects him to dress up in disco. "What do you think of Haruhi's outfit?"

"It suits her. Did you design it?"

"Nope. Found it in a commoner store. Thought she'd appreciate it."

.

No matter what Haruhi thinks, I appreciate it.

She's more covered than most here, but that's what she wants. The skirt is short, coming down to just mid-thigh, but the sleeves are long and flared. Kaoru described the pattern as paisley. White boots with thick heels are keeping her from falling.

She looks beautiful.

"Well, make sure you dance with her tonight."

"Hn."

Night, Love Hotel:

"Hey, Ritsu?"

"Yeah?" his voice rumbled under my ear. His chest makes a great pillow. Or at least a handy one when I'm ready to collapse.

"When do you want kids?"

His arms came around me tight, "You got something to tell me?"

"Fuck, no." He relaxed a bit. "Just wondering if you were thinking in a year, two, five, ten or whatever."

"Probably at least five. Neither of our fathers is sick or old. If no one gets taken out, they'll last years. We should wait until the Shiraishi Syndicate is up and running solid and we both are steady in our new roles in Himura and Kasanoda." He reached down and tugged my chin up so he could look in my eyes, "Why?"

"Well, I don't know about you, but this would be easier without having to worry about condoms all the time."

"Yeah."

"I was thinking about an injection. They last about a year."

"If you're ok with it, it works for me."

"Great. I'll make an appointment."

He kissed me and flopped back. "Now, if that's it, I need some sleep."

"Rest up. I have two more rooms for tomorrow."

"You're killing me, Bu."

Night, Second Floor Disco, Ranka's:

"She's doing great. You don't have anything to worry about."

"It's just that we never had anything like this with the boys," Umeko shook her head. "She's so different."

"I was worried a couple months ago, but now that she has an agent, she's protected."

"Thank you for helping her with that, Yuzuha-san. We appreciate it."

"Glad to help. If she hadn't come to me, I was going to suggest it to her. My son's been designing too long as a hobby for friends and the host club. It took him too long to settle into a fully business mindset for this line."

"Regardless of the delay in that, he's certainly done himself proud."

"Thanks." She finished her glass and grabbed another. "I love those boys. They've kept us on our toes all their lives, but I love them."

"We scheduled more interviews. Two with teen magazines."

This is why Umeko and I'd approached Yuzuha. Her sons have been celebrities for all their lives, and we're hoping for some wisdom.

Our nerves must be showing. She got closer, lowered her voice, and became serious. "Follow the agent's advice. I know he doesn't know her yet, but he's not an idiot. He won't push her to do something she doesn't want to, something that he can't convince her is a good idea. The more they're together, the better he'll get.

"Trust your gut. You both have been through a lot. You'll know if something sounds off. Haruhi's smart, and now that the staffs are talking, Kaoru's not making rookie mistakes.

"The next season will have two new models. That will take some of the pressure off her. She won't be holding it up on her own. I'm going to encourage him to put the three of them together as much as seventy percent of the time. I know they aren't the same demographic, but they will split the attention. And when he expands to new markets, all three of them will be there."

"Thank you, Yuzuha. We feel like we're out of our depth sometimes."

"What parent doesn't."

.

"Shouldn't we be dancing?"

"Only if you want to."

I looked down at the dance floor. All those crazy people trying to dance. One of the perks to this type of music is that no one's really good at it.

We're on one of the dancing platforms that used to have the cages, but we're sitting with our legs over the side just watching.

Takashi held out the plate and I grabbed another scallop thing. "Nope. I'm fine right here."

Author's Note:

A lot going on in this one.

And because I've been sick on top of being assigned jury duty on a 2-3 week trial, I'm writing right up until posting, so I don't have time for many comments.

I feel like I've been waiting to write both the marriage contract negotiations and the fashion show for so long that now that I'm rereading them, they're kinda a letdown.

Had fun writing everyone's different make out sessions. I didn't forget Tamaki and Renge. She was at the spa.

I think I've posted this before, but I started a Pinterest board for this series with subboards for each of the girls and other groups of things I needed. The disco dresses are there under each girl's subboard. Just adjust them to what I described. Don't nose around those boards too much if you don't want spoilers. Although I think the only ones I might have in there now are in the 'Tokyo To Do' one which has date and activity ideas. Much easier than giving the links for each pic. Anyway…here's the link (Just take out the spaces):

Next Chapter:

Kyoya and Cho in CA with Keiko…Haruhi's day off with the dog breeder…a lazy night for all…and hopefully getting through several days to move the calendar along.

It will be better than that sounds…
