I DO NOT OWN THE HUNGER GAMES. SHOUTOUT TO NOSTALGICPRIDE AND ABIZEAU FOR CREATING THESE CHARACTERS. NOW THAT THAT DEADLINE HAS PASSED, I CAN FINALLY TRULY GET STARTED WITH THIS STORY.
FACE CLAIMS
ROYCE LINWOOD- MATT CORNETT
SALOME VENGUARD- MIA ALVES
District 1, Panem. Reaping day.
Royce Linwood stood in line with the other young men as he eagerly awaited for the reaping ceremony to get underway. His blood had already been sampled and his DNA collected as he passed through the line of peacekeepers to stand in the males section of the courtyard where the reaping was being held.
He had training so long for this. If anyone deserved to be in the Hunger Games, it was him. He had shed blood for this, he had suffered his father's disapproval long enough. The reasons for why he should be a tribute were as numerous as the stars. Eventually, the handler for the District 1 tributes appeared on the stage that had been set up.
"Welcome. Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor." The fancy lady said with a giggle. "Now, before we begin, we have a very special film brought to you all the way from the Capitol."
"War, terrible war." The voice of President Celestia Snow spoke as the video showed inmates of bloody battles and dead people. "Widows, Orphans, a motherless child. This was the uprising that rocked our land. Deceived and manipulated by a heartless terrorist known only as the Mockingjay, 12 districts rebelled against the country that fed them, loved them, Protected them." The scene then cut to the image of the Mockingjay, previously known as Katniss Everdeen being gunned down by peacekeepers in the capital.
"Then came the peace. Hard fought, Solely won. The people Rose up from the ashes and a new era was born. But freedom has a cost. After the Mockingjay and her band of criminals were defeated, we swore as a nation that We would never know this treason again. And so, the time honored tradition of The Hunger Games needed to continue." The scene then changed to images of last hunger games and scenes of victors living happily.
"Each year, the various districts of Panem would offer up in tribute...One young man and woman to fight to the death in a pageant of honor, courage and sacrifice. The lone victor, Bathed in riches...will serve as our reminder of our generosity and our forgiveness. This is how we remember our past. This is how we safe guard our future." Once the video has ended, the handler cleared his throat and addressed the potential tributes again.
"Now, the time has come to select 1 courageous young man and woman; For the honor of representing District 1 in the Annual Hunger Games." The handler said as he reached his hand into a bowl of papers and pulled one out.
"I volunteer as tribute!" Royce exclaimed as he raised his hand. He couldn't take the chance that someone else might beat him to the punch. He needed to be in these games and more so, he needed to win these games.
"Oh...we have a volunteer. Come on up then." " the handler called out as Mr. Linwood quickly made his way into the stage. "What is your name, young man?"
"Royce Linwood." The boy said as he looked over the crowd with pride.
Salome Vengarde watched as Royce Linwood was brought on the stage. He seemed like the typical academy douchebag/psychopath. She herself had previously attended the academy and hated it. He either wanted the popular status of Victor and the riches that came with it, the chance to legally commit murder, or both. Ironically, she also planned to volunteer for the Hunger Games.
Unlike Royce, who seemed to only be in it for personal gain and glory, Salome needed to win for her family. She was under the thumb of her parole officer for getting caught up in a plot to smuggle a small supply of Morphine. She had been paid to smuggle it through District 1 and she had almost pulled it off, until a perverted peacekeeper had started to get grabby with her and had stumbled upon the contents of her package.
She would have done almost a decade of hard labor in the penal colony in the ruins of Distrixt 12 if it hadn't been for Gleam Harrods, a famous trainer who saw the potential for a Victor in Salome during her time in the academy. He cut a deal with the peacekeepers to give her probation on the condition that she rejoin the academy.
"And now, for the girls." The handler called out as he prepared to grab a name.
"I volunteer as tribute!" Salome called out before any of the girls could do so.
"All right, 2 volunteers in 1 day, only in District 1." The handler remarked with a smirk as he motioned for miss Vengarde walked through the crowd and up onto the stage. "What is your name, young lady?"
"Salome Vengarde." She said with an enigmatic smile, giving a dainty wave to the cameras.
"Wonderful...District 1, it is my great pleasure and my privilege to present to you and to the citizens of Panem, the tributes who have been given the exquisite honor of representing District 1 in the one hundred and twenty first annual Hunger Games; Royce Linwood and Salome Vengarde!" The handler declared as he motioned for the tributes to shake hands. Royce shook the hand, whereas Salome rolled her eyes at her fellow District 1 volunteer. Unbeknownst to both tributes, they were both thinking the exact same thing: they weren't going to bother trying to be friends. They were both careers and they would probably be allies until the the line of tributes was down to the final 4; but when it truly came down to it, neither of them would hesitate to kill the other if it was the only way to win.
