ANTAEUS MYRON- RYAN BROOKS

XANTHE VAN BEETHOVEN- BLANCA SOLER

District 2, Panem. Reaping Day.

Antaeus Myron waited patiently for the reaping to begin. Ever since he had first joined the District 2 career academy, he had dreamed of going to the Hunger Games. He had trained for so many years to make his mark on Panem. Antaeus was not only better than all of the other potential tributes in District 2, but of any potential tribute in Panem.

While the handler for the District 2 tributes played the video from President Snow, Antaeus looked out at the boys and girls who were eligible to be reaped for the Hunger Games. He almost felt a twinge of pity for them; almost. They didn't have the skills or the good looks worthy of a career tribute. He was without a doubt, the superior speciman and the best choice to honor District 2 by being its ambassador in the one hundred and twenty-first annual Hunger Games.

Eventually, the movie finished and the handler smiled as he took his place in front of the microphone between 2 glass bowls filled with papers; containing the names of every eligible boy and girl in District 2.

"Now, I am going to select one courageous young man to represent District 2 in the one hundred and twenty-first annual Hunger Games!" The handler announced as he reached his hand into the bowl of male names. Before he could even read out the name on the slip of paper, Antaeus took the opportunity that had presented itself.

"I volunteer as tribute!" Antaeus declared loudly as everyone else in the crowd just looked at him with a mixture of shock and loathing. The handler, on the other hand was caught off guard and a bit amused at the same time.

"It would appear that we have a volunteer." He said, trying not to chuckle uncomfortably. "I mean, normally you're supposed to wait until I've read the name before we ask for volunteers...but you have a great deal of enthusiasm and that usually isn't a bad thing. Come on up!" Antaeus grinned as he quickly made his way up to the podium and stood proudly next to the handler.

"My name is Antaeus Myron." He said before the handler even got a chance to ask the boy what his name was. As his eyes looked over the crowd, they landed on his mother, Cybele, who looked pleased as punch with her son. She had used all the power she had to give Antaeus the best life possible and she, like him, knew that he was destined to be a Victor.

Xanthe Van Beethoven groaned as she watched Antaeus Myron step onto the podium and declare himself the male tribute for District 2. Everyone in District 2 knew about the Myrons. They were one of, if not the most, wealthiest family in the district and they weren't above flaunting their money when it suited them. Everyone that she knew loathed Antaeus and she could rest assured that they were hoping that he would die in the arena.

Her reaction may have seemed a little hypocritical, because she too intended to volunteer, but at least she was doing it to help give her a family a better life. Antaeus just wanted to help his own damn self.

"Now that we have our male tribute, let's move onto the ladies." The handler announced as he reached his hand into the bowl and let it roam around for a minute until he pulled out a slip of paper and opened it. She didn't recognize the name, but quickly stepped out of line.

"I volunteer as tribute!" Xanthe exclaimed as everyone turned to look at her. Her mother was horrified while her father was just stunned by her announcement. As for her younger brothers, they honestly didn't know what to say; so they didn't say anything and instead just fought the urge to scream for her to take it back.

"Well, another volunteer!" The handler exclaimed with a grin. "Looks like it's 2 for 2; come on up, young lady." Xanthe slowly walked up to the podium as she she looked out over the mob of young people who were either grateful or jealous that they either hadn't been reaped or hadn't volunteered before her and Antaeus.

"So, what would your name be?" The handler asked as she took her place on his right side, opposite to Antaeus who was on the left.

"Xanthe Van Beethoven." She replied solemnly as she tried to look tougher than she felt in that exact moment.

"Well, I know that President Snow and all the citizens of the Capital will appreciate your bravery and your sacrifice." The handler said as he raised up both of the tributes left arms. "Let's hear a big round of applause for the tributes who will represent District 2 in the one hundred and twenty first annual Hunger Games: Antaeus Myron and Xanthe Van Beethoven!"

As Xanthe listened to the clapping of hands from those gathered, all she could think of was the shame that there was no way to better help her family then this.
