Continuation of Oceans and Promises

Kairi stared at the shadowy creature that had appeared before her. No, it wasn't just any shadow creature, it was a Heartless.

Sora's Heartless.

She remembered everything now: from losing her Heart to hiding inside Sora to regaining her Heart but losing her two best friends, one of whom had meant so much more to her.

The Heartless turned around at the sound of her voice and stared up at her. Ocean blue eyes on yellow (they should be sky-blue) eyes.

No doubt about it, this was definitely Sora. But she wanted to confirm it.

"Sora? Is that really—"

"Sora!" A voice interrupted Kairi as a black blur came running into the cave. No, on closer look, it was clearly a young boy around her age wearing a black coat, with a black hood obscuring whatever features were on his face. He stopped in front of Sora, puffing.

Kairi tried to blend in with the shadows in the cave; not that it mattered, the boy clearly hadn't taken notice of her.

"There you are, man, where the heck have you been? C'mon, we gotta RTC before we get in trouble." The boy said as he bent down and stretched out his hands. As he did, Kairi caught a glimpse of dirty-blond strands of hair falling out of his hood as he lifted Sora up and turned around.

No, she couldn't let them leave! Not with Sora, not after all these months of waiting!

"Wait!"

Sky blue eyes faced ocean blue eyes.

His eyes…they were the same as Sora's eyes were (and should be)!

"Er…" the boy in black stammered, "can I help you?" he asked, almost like an afterthought.

Breathe, Kairi. Breathe, and act natural.

Kairi took a deep breath and waved, hoping the gesture would come off as non-threatening.

"Hi, my name is Kairi. What's your name?"

The boy in black blinked (and for a brief moment, Kairi thought a look of recognition passed over his face before it disappeared). "I'm Roxas."

"Roxas," Kairi thought the name was wrong somehow, "You're not from here, are you? I haven't seen you around."

"No, I, uh, I'm from somewhere else." Roxas shifted his feet, almost nervously. "Umm, I really shouldn't be talking to you. I have to go." He turned around as if to run away—

"OUCH!"

Roxas stared down at his arms with a shocked look on his face. To be fair, anyone would be shocked if, out of nowhere, their Heartless friend just suddenly scratched them. (No pun intended.)

"Sora, what the heck?" Roxas was clearly surprised by what Sora did. His surprise did not go away even when Sora began wiggling in his arms.

"Sora, what's gotten into you?!"

Sora did not answer.

Instead, Sora hopped out of Roxas's arms and slid over to Kairi's feet, before popping out and staring at her with an intense look .

Kairi was burned by that gaze. She remembered it well now:

"I'm always with you too! I'll come back to you, I promise!"

Praying with all her heart, she asked the one question that she feared would change everything:

"Sora? Do you remember me?"
