Chapter summary: A new sunset. A new friend.
For the first time in what felt like forever (and it might have been, who knows how long he was asleep?) Sora gazed out at the afternoon sky of Twilight Town and gasped. "Wow, that's a really pretty sunset!" he exclaimed.
"Sora, we don't have time to gawk at the sky!" Donald scolded while he stamped his foot. "We hafta find out what happened while we were asleep!"
His (much) tall(er) companion, Goofy, scratched his head, "gee, i dunno, Donald, we don't even know where we are. How can we find out what happened if we don't even have the gummiship? That mansion we came out of had no clues at all."
"It would be smart to relax and talk to the locals. Perhaps they know more than we do." Jiminy noted. "If only my journal wasn't wiped blank; what in the worlds happened to it?" he lamented.
Sora shrugged. "Well, it would be nice to make some new friends. But I really want to go see Kairi and find out what happened to Riku." He sighed forlornly. "Too bad we can't just portal ourselves there like Heartless and Nobodies can." Shaking his head, Sora tried to put his hands behind his head in his signature relaxation pose.
Tried being the key word. "Hey, what did my hand just touch?!" Sora yelped as he turned around and caught a glimpse of something.
Squishy body. Weird symbol. Zippers. Hey, wait, that looked just like…
"Wak! It's a Nobody!" Donald quacked.
It was, indeed, a Nobody (though, for some reason, it looked very small, almost like a stuffed toy). It was also quivering right next to Sora's head.
"Gawsh, Sora, looks like you got yourself a new friend there!"
"Don't be silly, ya big palooka! That's not a friend, that's clearly a Nobody! Those Dusks!" Donald whipped out his staff. "We should get rid of it before it hurts us!"
Sora scratched his head in consideration. "Gee, I dunno, Donald—it seems super friendly. And besides, it seems too little to actually hurt us."
The "little" Dusk did not seem to like being called as such, if the slap on Sora's face indicated anything.
"See!" Donald leaped forward. But the little Dusk was faster. It zipped away and—"Hey!"—flew into Sora's hood, where it poked its head out and, with its unzippered mouth, did its best to laugh.
"Why YOU!" A vein popped in Donald's temple.
"Maybe we should give it a chance," Jiminy suggested.
"Yeah, I don't think he's going to hurt us." Sora agreed.
Goofy tilted his head, "Ya think it's a "he"?"
Sora shrugged, "yeah, I just got this feeling." He patted the little Dusk on its head. "Nice to meet you, little guy. I think we're going to be the best of friends." He paused and thought to himself, "guess I gotta come up with a name for you…"
Elsewhere, in a world where beings of Nothingness dwelled, two dwellers of such stood in a room. One stayed submissively behind, the other gazed outward, transfixed, at the heart shaped moon that floated outside.
"Superior…" Saïx briefly hesitated but ultimately decided to forge ahead, "how did this happen? I was under the assumption that merging with Sora would cause Roxas's entire existence to fade away completely or at least sleep inside his Heart."
"It would appear…that we have been…mistaken." Xemnas's voice rumbled thoughtfully. "Were Vexen here, he would assuredly come up with a more concise explanation…but it would appear that while Roxas gave back most of his essence, he did not give up on his right to exist…even if it meant reducing himself to the lowest of all Nobodies." He paused.
"..." Saïx frowned. "So…what does this mean for our plans for Kingdom Hearts?"
His answer came in the form of Xemnas's smile.
Happy April Fool's Day!
