It was three a.m when Rogue and Logan finally stopped for the night, retiring to a musty motel that was just by the side of the highway. They parked their bikes and walked in, both extremely tired and grumpy.
"Two rooms for us," Logan said slamming down one hundred dollars with such force that a visible crack could be seen across the wooden table.
"Of-of course," the young receptionist said, fear evident in his eyes.
They made their way upstairs, and into their separate rooms that were next door to each other. Rogue quickly kicked off her boots and jacket then proceeded to brush her teeth and collapsed onto her bed, instantly falling asleep.
Murky green water surrounded her, tubes, and wires around, she was floating but her hands felt as if they were in agony like her body was tearing itself apart. Everything hurt but then she saw it, a figure in the distance with white hair and an evil grin, she had no idea who this was but he somehow infuriated and scared her. He had done this, he had made the pain he had taken her and she didn't know what he had done but she was now a monster. She was no longer her and she could feel her mind ripping itself apart confusion and darkness swallowing her whole.
Rogue abruptly woke up drenched in sweat and blankets wrapped around her, checking the time it was only seven a.m.
Good job Rogue, you woke yerself up because of some stupid dreams and now you only have four hours of sleep.
She untangled herself from the bedsheets, and gently climbed out, starting to get dressed for the day. Picking up her phone she realized she had several voice messages and texts from Kitty and Kurt who had no doubt awakened for an early danger room session and discovered that Rogue was nowhere to be found. Gingerly she pressed on Kitty's number to speed-dial.
"Hello?" Rogue said,
"OH MY GOSH LIKE ROGUE WHERE DID YOU GO! DID LOGAN KIDNAP YOU BECAUSE YOU FELL ASLEEP IN THE GARDEN LAST NIGHT? ARE YOU LIKE OK? ARE YOU ALIVE?" Kitty screamed over the phone.
She winced, "Kitty ahm-" but was cut off by the sound of Kurt Wagner, her adoptive brother.
"Rogue are you alvight? Do you need me to come and get yov?" Kurt exclaimed over the phone!
"Ok calm down, ya'll are way too loud at seven in the morning, ah'm perfectly fine the Professor just sent Logan and ah on a late-night mission yesterday and ah didn't get the chance to say goodbye!" Rogue said slightly out of breath.
"Oh my gosh! Like Rogue, you should have left us a note or something we were like so worried!" Kitty said, still far too loud for Rogue's liking.
"Ah know, ah know ah'm sorry but ah gotta go now Logans calling me," Rogue said making up an excuse to get away from the phone.
"Ok Rogue but pleavse be very carfvul" Kurt said, worry evident in his voice.
"Thanks, sugar ah'll make sure to keep that in mind" Rogue responded, hanging up the phone.
Those kids are crazy! Rogue walked out of her room to be greeted by an angry Logan who was on a call.
Damn, what is it now Rogue thought.
"Fine, but you owe me big time bub," Logan said with an annoyed growl.
Rogue cautiously walked up to Logan and gently broached the issue, "What happened?" she asked.
"Look, kid, I have some bad news let's talk over breakfast." He responded clearly annoyed by something.
They walked into a nearby diner right across the street from the motel.
"I'll have a black coffee and bacon", Logan ordered.
"For you darling?" the waitress asked.
"Ah'll have the same except with pancakes and a coffee, one milk two sugars '' Rogue responded, wincing at the waitress's bright and cheery attitude.
"Ok hun, I'll be out with your food in a few minutes." The waitress said walking away.
"So what's the deal?" Rogue asked Logan.
"Look kid you're gonna have to go solo on this mission, I know I said that I didn't want you to have to deal with this by yourself but something has come up regarding that special mission that I was on." He said in a serious tone.
"So when are you gunna come back then?" She questioned.
"It'll only be two weeks tops, so in that time I need you to go down to New Orleans and recruit Gambit by yourself. I know it's a shock having to do this mission alone, but I know you can do it. Here's the file" Logan responded handing over the envelope.
"When you recruit him, make your way back to Bellville. I'll meet you at the mansion, if you encounter any problems at all especially with that cajun, just call me." He said, looking extremely irritated
"Don't worry Logan, ah'll be fine, you just be careful and make sure you don't leave for five months again," Rogue said attempting to lighten the mood.
Logan gave a slight smile in response and they began to eat the food that had arrived. The fluffy pancakes and warm coffee was just enough to awaken her making the feeling of refreshment wash over Rogue. Once finished they went back to the motel, packed their belongings, and walked outside to where their motorcycles were parked. Logan explained the rest of the journey and gave her a few more pointers. After that, they went their separate ways.
Ok Rogue, the first solo mission you've had in a while, don't screw it up! She thought while driving.
Rogue stopped at seven o'clock p.m and dropped in at another roadside motel. Once she checked in, it was very similar to the night before as she collapsed into her bed exhausted from the day's journey. Unfortunately, she couldn't fall asleep due to all the voices in her head, so she took out Gambits file.

There were strangely no pictures of him but Rogue was intrigued, she wondered about him and proceeded to re-read Gambits file until she fell asleep.
It was a dark alleyway, she'd been tossed onto the street and was now alone. She could taste the humidity and the air was heavy, the sky was cloaked in darkness with dotted stars twinkling across the sky. She was scared something was chasing her and she couldn't tell who or what. The feeling of impending doom was slowly creeping up on her as she ran, "HELP" she screamed "HELP" but no one answered. No one could hear her. She had never felt so alone, "NO, STOP" she screamed but no one came to help her. No one could hear her. It had caught up with her and the shadow swallowed her. Rogue screamed into the darkness.
"NO" She screamed again, waking herself up.
It was just ah dream, just ah dream Rogue thought to herself. Just another one of the voices in mah head but Rogue could tell there was something different about that dream, something she couldn't place her finger on.
It was different from her usual ones where they were connected to the people she absorbed. This one was unfamiliar and didn't feel connected to the others. Brushing it off, Rogue got up and realized she had made a mess of the room and fallen asleep reading gambits file. She picked everything up and packed the little items she had taken out of her bag. Changing and brushing her teeth Rogue skipped breakfast and quickly left for New Orleans. Ah just left at 8'oclock a.m so I should arrive there by 2'oclock p.m. She got on her motorcycle eager to end this trip so she could finally have a good night's rest.
