Rogue had been wandering aimlessly around New Orleans for hours, her face was damp with streaks left by tears and her eyes were red from the sobbing. What was she looking for? At this point, she didn't even know. All Rogue knew was that she was done with this godforsaken mission and men in general. All she wanted to do was go home. She pulled out her phone and was about to call Logan and tell him she was coming back but for some reason, she decided against it.
Damn it all, ah'll just do it tomorrow. Her frustration slowly building up again.
She walked for a little longer, tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes feeling more alone than ever. She stumbled down a relatively quiet street finally reaching a bar at the very end. Almost as if it was her reward for making it this far she grasped onto the brass handle, swinging the door open.
"Perfect," She mumbled to herself while walking into the crowded bar and plopping herself down at the counter.
"Ah'll have the strongest thing available," She announced, as her knowledge about alcoholic beverages was limited she trusted the bartender to analyze her current state and act accordingly.
She could almost hear the outcry from the more responsible voices alerting her about the dangers of alcohol consumption when she was both alone and in a foreign city. Normally she would have agreed. Today however, Rogue planned on getting as drunk as she could and didn't care about anything else. She made sure she had her gloves on just in case and turned off her phone for no disturbances.
The bartender gave her a sympathetic look. "Tough day?" She asked while sliding a glass over to her.
"You wouldn't believe it" Rogue responded taking a large gulp of the dark amber liquid . It burned her throat as she drank, but she could care less. She drank until the glass was empty, immediately feeling the aftereffects she yelled for more.
Merde! How far could this femme have went?! He wondered while running around looking for familiar two white streaks. Maybe back to her hotel? He thought in a frenzied state.
"An-and then he had the audacity to say YES! Like the man didn't even try to explain what the hell he did! He just stood there?! What does that even meannn!" Rogue said while finishing off her fourth round of drinks.
She had been explaining the story of her journey to the bartender for the last two hours, starting from her 'stupid jerk ex Bobby', as she put it, to how she came to New Orleans in search of Remy.
The bartender nodded in agreement. "Men, I tell ya they can be the scum of the earth sometimes." She exclaimed in a knowing tone.
"Ah know? Mah ex cheated on me THREE THAMES! And that's only the ones ahhh knowwww offff!" Rogue continued, her words starting to slur together.
The alcohol was really kicking in and she was starting to get migraines and blurred vision.
"An-and then ah come to New Orleans and go on a date with this strange fella and then f-find out after that HE'S ENGAGED?!" She shouted in frustration.
Multiple customers looked her way at Rogues' outburst, but the bartender motioned for them to mind their own business.
"The worst thing about it is that the woman he's engaged to is probably some beautiful girl who I could never compare to since I'm nothin speciall. A-a-and that really sucks because he's so kind even if he seems deceiving! Whenever I'm around him ah feel so great about myself and that ah can conquer the world! Ah just feel so special with him but he loves that other girl who ah'm sure is super sweet." She said out loud taking another sip of her drink.
"Oh dear don't say that! You are a stunner and if this fella can't see it then he's not worth your time!" The bartender said to Rogue.
"But ah really reallyyyy like him! Ah've never felt the same about anyone, else even with mah own ex boyfriend! It's just so terribly frustrain because he makes me feel…happy. Lahke I'm floatin or sumthin" Rogue exclaimed.
"Well darling it sounds a lot like you love this guy." The bartender told her.
Rogue thought about it for a while and the realization dawned on her. What she felt around him was something she had never experienced, all of the happiness and energy she felt around him! It was love the entire time.
"Ah- ah think your right!" Rogue said, taking off her jacket and gloves since she was starting to get really warm.
"Well girl, you need to go find that man and demand an explanation!" The bartender said.
"Ah know but what the hell with that everah do? What if ah get rejected? What if he tells me he was just playin?" She responded panicked and worried.
The bartender slowly reached across and firmly grasped Rogues hands disabling her from escaping. She stared directly into Rogues glossy emerald eyes and said with such confidence,
"Darling it seems like you've been spending all your time thinking of others. Giving undeserving people your time, emotions and love. You've been spreading yourself thin trying to help and make sure everyone else was ok that You've disregarded yer own feelings. Arrete, make your own feelings known and become a force to be reckoned with. Love yourself and believe in your own capabilities for dieus sake!" She exclaimed.
Rogue was stunned for a split second before furiously nodded her head in agreement and gulped down the last of her drink, slamming it on the table while quickly getting up with new resolve in her eyes. She stumbled a little but mustered up the money owned and stood tall with confidence brimming from her being as she tore off her gloves and slammed them down.
"Thank you" She sincerely said before strutting out the of the bar.
"No problem darlin! Come back anytime!" The bartender shouted back, grinning from ear to ear. "You got this cher" She said under her breath feeling as if she chose the correct profession.
Remy had been looking for Rogue for a few hours. Her hotel was a bust and he had gotten himself in a bit of trouble with the staff there. He'd scoured every street from below and above and had yet to catch sight of the striped belle femme, which was strange since he knew every nook and cranny of New Orleans.
This femme sure is hard to catch. Remy thought.
He finally settled at a bar that wasn't too close or far away from the alley they were in before. It was the last place that he wanted to visit since he had a bit of a history with the bartender there.
"Ahh Gambit"
He whipped his head around and was greeted by the one person that he wanted to avoid.
"Bonjour Acadia" he responded with his signature grin.
She could see right through it though.
"Don't you dare use that grin on me, I thought you would know that I don't fall for that anymore." She said while rolling her eyes.
"Désolé, I was just dropping by to ask a question." He responded, "Also it's not what you are thinking" He added on.
"Good because I have a boyfriend," Acadia responded.
"Congrats, regarder chérie I just need to know if a little lady-" Acadia snorted, "- with white stripes in her hair and green eyes dropped by the bar." He said, finishing his sentence.
Acadia's mood immediately soured as she narrowed her eyes at him.
"Don't you dare tell me that you are the man that took her out on a date without telling her that you were engaged!" She shouted.
"Actually oui! But how did you-" Gambit was cut off by a slap from Acadia's hand.
"You fils de pute!" She shouted smacking him on the head with a newspaper.
"ouch , ouch arrete you folle de femme!" He exclaimed still shocked.
"Oui, a heartbroken belle femme came into this bar earlier and started to cry about a man that left her for someone else!"
"I didn't leave her for-"
"Shut yer trap I'm not done yet," Acadia said furiously. "I can't believe you have the nerve to do that to that femme! I know you are a womanizer Remy but that fille is a sweet person and she was so distraught."
"I am aware of dat but I have an explai-" Remy was yet again cut off for the umpteenth time today.
"Non! Don you dare say another word Lebeau" She shouted. "If you think you can walk into MON bar and try to get anything out of me about that delightful femme you are WRONG!"
Remy was beyond annoyed at this point with everyone cutting him off, he was also running out of time.
"Look I don't have time for this shit," Acadia was turning red so he quickly continued. "This was a whole misunderstanding, I love this femme and that's why I'm trying to look fer her so I would appreciate if you tell me where the femme went so I can explain this whole shit storm to her!" He finished exasperated.
Acadia was awestruck as Remy finished his explanation. The tension was palpable at first but Remy held his ground and suddenly a look of realization dawned upon her.
"You really love this femme?" She finally said breaking the silence between the two.
"Oui, tres beaucoup." He told her, desperation lining his words.
"Merde, I should have just told her to stay here instead of going after you," Acadia responded while thinking hard. "She was tres drunk too…" The bartender added on.
"You did what?!" Remy asked outraged. "Don you know how dangerous New Orleans can get at night time?! Especially at night time."
"Oui, I know I know" she groaned, "the fille had just discovered sumthing and I wanted to help her."
"What did she find out?" Remy asked, intrigued.
Acadia began to smirk, "go find out fer yerself" she said urging him to go after Rogue. "I think she took a right turn after she left here, hurry she couldn't have gone far! Also, de femme left these her you should give them to her."
She passed Remy Rogues jacket, gloves and phone.
Merde I hope the femme didn't accidentally touch someone. He thought while quickly thanking Acadia and running off to find his Rogue.
Rogue slowly walked down the cobblestone streets of New Orleans. As she looked around she was surrounded by happy couples doting on each other or families with bright smiles on their faces. A twinge of jealousy sparked in her heart but she still couldn't help feeling happy that they wouldn't have to be lonely like her.
Stahp feeling bad for yerself hun. She thought as she continued to walk down the street. Remember yer lookin for Remy.
Her vision was starting to get blurry and a headache was starting to form. Rogue decided to sit down and wait it out hoping that eventually, she would feel better. As her head began to clear she turned her head and realized she had no idea where she was. It was dark so she figured that it was late at night and most people had either migrated to busier streets or gone home.
Home sounds nice, I wish I was home right now.
Rogue started to get confused about where her home truly was, she wasn't sure if it was really Xaviers at this point. Originally it had been Mississippi, but after her whole mutant powers, it became Logan. But then Logan had to go away more often so now logically it would Xaviers. The funny thing was that she had never felt more at home than with Remy and it was infuriating.
Sure her own brother and best friend were at Xavier's but she was 19 years old for goodness sake, she didn't really feel like staying there forever. Before with her mutation, she had always thought that in order to survive in this world as a mutant you had to choose a side. Xavier's or Magneto's, but now she saw it differently. She could be herself and also be free to do what she wants. Remy had opened her eyes to the possibilities of life.
Or maybe he is her life? She thought.
While thinking she had subconsciously backed herself into an alleyway. Sitting down on the cold sidewalk and arresting her head against the pavement, it was clear that getting back to her hotel was going to be a challenge.
"Well looky looky, what do we have here fellas?"
Rogue opened her eyes to see a strange hooded man in dark clothing with a few other friends.
"Seems like this sweet little lady has lost her way!" Another responded
"Maybe we should give her hand ." yet another said with a disgusting look on his face.
Aww hell I do not feel like putting up with this right now! Rogue thought whilst standing up and going into fighting stance.
"You wouldn't mind laying off a gal and giving her a break would ya fellas? I've had a hard day and ah wouldn't want you tah get hurt because I'm not pulling my punches." She said in a cocky tone.
She watched as the first guy's face light up in anger and threw a punch at her.
"Ah guess not! Don't tell meh I didn't warn ya." She responded while kneeing him in the groin.
"Shut up bitch, you're gunna regret those words!"He shouted in pain.
Rogue was about to duck the next guy's punch when a searing pain rang through her head. All at once, the voices in her head began to act up and she could hear everything at once.
Punch him now, one said. You idiot this is what happens to mutant scum, said another.
I told you not to leave me these are the consequences, one chimed in. Oh my gosh, like shut up mystique shouted the familiar voice of Kitty. Rogue vatch ou-.
"SHUT UP" She screamed before getting punched in the stomach.
She landed with a heap on the ground with the group of guys threatening to come closer and closer. Suddenly a flash of a familiar brown trench coat passed by Rogue's eyes and landed in front of her in a protective stance.
"Remy?" She quietly whispered before her vision was overtaken by blackness.
