He had been jumping from rooftop to rooftop above the streets of New Orleans. His anxiety was at an all-time high and he could feel anguish dwelling in his soul, which seemed foreign for the usual carfree cajun.

"Merde, and from Remy, has seen the fille doesn't seem to drink alcohol that often '' He mentioned to himself, creating more urgency in his strides. It was a hot and humid evening but Remy still felt a chill run through his veins.

Suddenly he was blindsided by the feeling of terror and overwhelming fear as he heard a bloodcurdling scream cry out. His body went into overdrive as he began to sprint, attempting to reach the person no matter the cost.

He reached an alleyway and saw her lying on the ground surrounded by three hooded men, one seemed to have been knocked out as he was face first in a puddle, which made him proud for a split second, knowing she put up a good fight.

He landed in front of Rogue just in time to hear her whisper "Remy?" in a soft tone before blacking out.

Remy could feel a hot flash of rage ignite in him as his scarlet eyes flashed at the offenders.

"Ahh Remy! Glad you've finally joined us. Never could turn down a beautiful femme could you?"

The all too familiar snarky voice echoed through his ears, he could feel Juliens lust. It disgusted him to his core and he began to see red.

"Julien, you fucking fils de pute." He said revolted by him.

"Didn't expect you to come running here so quickly," Julien said.

He had a second of confusion before the fury returned.

"Yeah that's right Remy LeBeau, I know you've been sneaking around da city with this skank and I'm here to put a stop to it."

Remy quickly recovered as a calm rage settled throughout his system.

"Bella and I are not together yet, so until the wedding you can't do shit." He replied in a matter-of-fact tone.

Merde even if Bella couldn't care less, her jackass of a brother would always have to interfere. He thought while mentally cursing himself for letting Rogue leave in the first place.

One of Julien's lackeys tried to throw a punch at him, but Remy swiftly dodged and kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying. More began to appear from the shadows and he gladly took the opportunity to vent out his anger. He waited until they were all down before facing Julien himself, a card ignited at his side.

The man's eyes lit up as he began to cackle. His blonde hair appeared green in the minimal lighting, a sick smile lining his face as he pulled out a knife which had the remains of a previous victim. He wiped the blood off onto his red coat, his ice-blue eyes locking onto Gambit's hidden ones.

"Ah now you show your true side Remy LeBeau. The side of a mutant monster." Julien sneered.

Gambit dropped his card and was at Julien's side in an instant, catching him off guard. His eyes had a look of terror as Gambit punched him squarely in the face angered that he couldn't do more damage. Julien recovered quickly and began to laugh.

"Au revoir, Gambit hopes you'll be satisfied with the repercussions of breaking our family's agreement!" He said referencing the no-fighting pact their families made to minimize damage before the wedding.

However, he and his family were going to have a field day reprimanding Julien for his actions against him. Gambit quickly made an escape from the confusion while picking up Rogue in his arms and jumping off into the night.

The red eyes, his red eyes, her red eyes, my red eyes?! She looked horrified as her reflection opened up and swallowed her. She became enveloped in sorrow as it crept into every crevice of her life. She was lost. Gone and something else entirely.

Rogue jumped up with beads of sweat forming on her brow. As she looked around she saw that she was in an unfamiliar place and began to worry. She was still mostly dressed from the most recent memory she could recall so at least it wasn't that bad.

Where was ah last? She thought.

Flashes of her memories began to stream in. Remy, alleyway, the WEDDING!

Oh that asshole! But wait, then the bar, a gap in her memory, then being corned somewhere. She slowly put the pieces together. He had saved her.

Rogue looked around bewildered at the place where she had been left. She had awoken in a large king-size bed. The sheets were silk with a thread count of most likely 400. She basked in the warm sun and looked around. To her left was a side table where she spotted her white gloves, phone and other belongings. She sat up and observed that the room was a warm white with big billowing curtains and a beautiful open balcony. The bed frame was a deep black wood, it looked extremely sturdy and very expensive.

Rogue stood up and felt an immediate pang in her stomach. She hobbled over to a nearby bathroom and lifted up her shirt to reveal a white bandage that was wrapped around her midsection. Unrolling it to expose ugly violet bruises covering her skin with red splotches marking certain areas. This, however, didn't daze her at all as she was used to having injuries from the danger room. She opened the bathroom cabinet and spotted some Advil. Popping two pills she then stripped off all of her clothes and stepped into the shower. The warm jets of water immediately eased her aching bones and for a few minutes, she felt at peace.

That was until she fully recalled the events of yesterday, with the weddings and Gambit's confession of love to his betrothed. Rogue did not understand why he had come to look for her. She was of no importance and while she would have liked to think that she mattered at least a little bit to him, reality was cruel and she knew for a fact that her existence meant little to Remy LeBeau. Rogue pondered this while she walked back into his room, she grabbed a dress shirt and put it over her underwear and bra. Normally she achieved mostly straight hair with the help of product and a flatiron, but with the damp water, she could immediately feel her natural curls springing back. She strolled over to the nearby balcony and basked in the warm sun looking down at New Orlean's hustle and bustle.

I love him. She thought bewildered but firm on her stance.

Gambit was exhausted. Once he had bandaged Rogue up, being careful not to touch the exposed skin or lose his temper once again at how extensive her injuries were, it pained him to see the ugly splotches forming together, showing the mistakes he had made. He had gone to contact the guild. His phone had been ringing off the line and out of all the calls he missed, the two that caught his attention were his dear brother Henri and, an anomaly in itself, Logan.

Merde what happened now for me tah get wolfy involved. He thought, already tired of the idea of putting up with the gruff Canadian.

First, he called Logan.

"Bonjour?" Gambit said when he heard the phone pick up.

"Look cajun I got one thing to say to you, if you hurt her, you will die" Logan said seething in anger.

"Regarder mon amie, I have no idea what in the world you are talking about," Gambit responded

"Marie."

That one-word response was all Gambit needed to confirm his fears. He hung up the phone and immediately stormed into his room to see Marie basking in the sun. She was radiant as ever with her hair in full-on curls. He had never seen such beauty, combined with her serene expression almost made him lose focus. But then he snapped back to reality.

"What the hell." He said in a furious tone.

She swiveled around to face him, her eyes shining with confusion.

"What did Ah do?" She asked accusingly.

"Oui Rogue, why did you originally come here? You said it was for someone. Who the hell was it for." Gambit responded.

He could feel her guilt, her anguish, she was confused and he cursed his mutant powers. He disliked seeing her in pain so he closed them off, feeling as if he had lost one of his senses but relieved from the emotions of another.

She on the other hand could tell even with his eyes covered that she had hurt him. That he was going to be hurt by her words, or would he? He seemed to care at least a little but was it enough to be pained by the truth? He didn't love her, he had no obligations to her in fact she was just a distraction this entire time. Her feelings of betrayal were combined with her love. She would set him free, it was the last thing she could for him.

"Fiahne sugar you want the truth? I was told to come down here to recruit you by Xavier." She said with a tone revealing no remorse, a facade for the guilt she felt.

Gambit felt a pang in his heart that was quickly replaced by pure anger. He approached her enraged at how she didn't seem to care. She must have felt guilt because she had been caught in her own web of lies. He failed to see his own part in this all, disregarding what he had previously thought the only emotion he could feel was pain.

"So it was all a ruse den? You didn't find me by chance, you were looking for me." He looked at her with a small glimmer of hope for some change of heart. Something to ease his soul, but she was ice cold. The wind was blowing in pushing her curls towards him but her mind was far away. She didn't seem to care at all. He broke.

"You planned this all then, huh!?" He asked while progressing into a shout.

The pain was replaced by anger.

"You didn't give a shit about moi and you didn't care. You lied to my face, you lied to me and you didn't care. HOW COULD YOU?!" He questioned her in an accusing tone.

He was spiteful and she could feel his glare. For the past few weeks, she had felt his warmth constantly, she had felt his kindness but now the warmth she had felt before had melted away revealing a cold, hard exterior.

"You one are digusting femme. No wonder no one gets close, it's not yer mutation chere, it's you." He said definitively, the previous term of endearment was now said in a revolted tone.

She snapped, her beautiful green eyes now lighting up in a rage as she looked towards him. She swiftly moved closer off the balcony and into the room. Angrily pointing her finger at him.

"Oh you hypocritical fucker, HOW DARE YOU!?" She began to scream.

"Moi?! How-" She cut him off.

"Shuttup you evil evil man, you better get off your goddamn high fucking horse, how dare you tell me that Ah lied when you were DOING THE SAME?!" Angry tears began to fall from her face. "Were you or were you not engaged?!" She screamed at him.

The only response was a slight nod.

"AND DID YOU-" Her voice broke, "did you tell me?" She asked pleading for a different answer but all she saw was a slight nod.

"You strung me along didn't you?" The anger bubbled up in her chest, "ENGAGED REMY, GODDAMN ENGAGED THAT'S WHAT YOU WERE" she paused for a second to catch her breath and wipe the tears from her cheeks.

"Ah never mattered to you, because if Ah did you would've told me. At least mah own mission was just an attempt to offer you recruitment but mah feelings," She looked at him, his sunglasses mirrored her face and she saw her heartbreak in the reflection.

"Mah feelings were real," Rogue said with tears brimming in her eyes.

He was at a loss, he didn't know what to feel. All he felt was his own betrayal and her words had fallen on deaf ears. She didn't know how he himself felt about her and he couldn't further hurt her by revealing himself. Knowing that she would have to accept that their relationship was genuine Gambit looked at her and decided to spare her any more pain. His shades covered his eyes but his words saying more than anything else.

"But did you ever even care?" He asked coldly, pretending as if he didn't know what she meant. Pretending that what she said didn't even matter.

Her response sealed his heart away as he felt a crack emerge.

"Did you?" She responded, her heart breaking.
