Kuri sat on a bed in the infirmary, having kicked off her half-burnt boots. I guess I'll have to get replacements again. The nurse, Recovery Girl, flurried around Kuri, giving her a check-up.
"It seems that you have three fractured ribs and second-degree burns on multiple parts of your body," Recovery Girl said.
"Oh. Will I be okay?" Kuri asked. It'd be pretty inconvenient if a couple of injuries kept her from attending class or something.
"You'll be fine after I use my quirk on you," she said. Recovery Girl's lips stretched out towards her and planted a kiss on her cheek. Kuri flinched, then immediately felt her pain melt away.
"So am I good to go now?" Kuri asked, raring to go find Bakugo and apologize as well as thank him.
"The healing process may cause you to be tired, so I recommend that you rest here for a bit until you're ready to go back to the dorms."
"Oh, okay then," Kuri said. She did feel quite a bit tired, so she laid down on the bed on top of the covers, taking her hair out of her ponytail.
Not even a few seconds later, someone barged into the room, and Kuri shifted her head to see who it was. It was none other than Bakugo. His eyes met hers and he began to walk over.
"Hey," Kuri said, tying her hair back up. She sat up, and Bakugo sat down on a stool beside her bed. "Wait, shouldn't you get some medical treatment or…" Bakugo shook his head.
"Unlike you, Bunny, I don't need healing for just a couple of scratches and bruises."
"Bakugo, you broke three of my bones and gave me multiple second-degree burns."
"Oh."
"Yeah. But I'm fine now, and it was for class anyway, so don't feel too bad about it," Kuri said. They sat in awkward silence for a couple moments.
"So, why did you want to talk to me?" Bakugo asked. Kuri racked her brain to try and think of how to say everything.
"I, uh, never said thanks for stopping Mineta, so thanks for that," she said, looking down at her hands.
"Huh?" She looked back up at him, confused. Had he seriously forgotten?
"On my first day? Remember?" A look of recognition passed over his face.
"It'd be pretty fucked up if I hadn't stopped him," he said.
"Even so, thanks a lot. I owe you," she said.
"You owe me a better fight," he said with a slight smirk. Kuri sighed.
"Yeah, I really didn't put in much effort today. Sorry, I'm pretty lazy sometimes," she said. Bakugo looked away, suddenly seeming a bit upset.
"I thought you'd wanna beat me up a bit more, considering that you 'despise people like me,'" Bakugo said, scowling. Kuri shifted in her spot and sighed.
"I- I'm sorry, Bakugo," she said. Bakugo looked back over. "You're going to be mad about this, but that was just a stupid joke. I didn't think I'd sound as serious as I did, so I panicked and left." She looked down at the bedding, fiddling with it nervously.
"Why would you joke about that? I thought you hated my guts," he exclaimed. Kuri opened her mouth to respond, but Bakugo cut her off. "It's not like I'd care if you did, though."
"I don't really know why I said that. I'm weird. And you… had ticked me off a bit that day. But in any case, I don't really hate you. I think you're… not that terrible," she said. He narrowed his eyes at her.
"Not that terrible?"
"Um… yeah," she said hesitantly. Though Kuri had recently realized her feelings for him, she was still unsure about him as a person. Sure, she liked him, but was he a super good person? She had yet to really figure that out.
They sat in silence since Kuri had nothing else to say.
"...Bye, Bunny," Bakugo said, standing up.
"Bye… Katsuki," she said teasingly. Now that she'd appeased him with the knowledge that she didn't hate him, she wondered if she could finally level the playing field and be able to call him by his first name. This was a pretty dumb idea, considering how well things had gone the last time.
He looked back at her, glowering.
"Shut up, dumbass," he said, then turned and left. Kuri grinned, then yawned, laying back down. Things were starting to look up.
Bakugo shut the door behind him and began to make his way to the dorms. It was hard to keep a slight smirk off of his face as he made his way down the hall. Nakano didn't hate him after all. Not that it affected him either way, but it was cool that he was in her favor.
He heard footsteps coming around the corner, heading towards him. Bakugo's eyes met a head of curly green hair. Deku's eyes lit up in recognition, and he smiled.
"Hey, Kacchan!" he said.
"Deku…" Bakugo walked around him to try and escape the impending conversation that Deku would likely start.
"Congrats on your win against Nakano. You were both very impressive." Bakugo stopped walking and scoffed.
"That dumbass didn't even try. She's not impressive," Bakugo said.
"What?"
"Nevermind," he said, walking away again. Deku followed after him.
"Well, what was it like to witness the use of her quirk firsthand? There was only so much we could see from the cameras-" Bakugo cut him off, exasperated.
"If you wanna know so much, just ask her, dipshit," he said, leaving Deku behind as he turned the corner. Deku harrumphed.
"I guess I will then," he said. Bakugo heard Deku's footsteps retreat down the hallway towards the infirmary. Bakugo continued to walk back to the dorms, for he had better things to do, and so did Deku.
