A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 3 Chapter 11
Suffice it to say no one is quick to step forward to accept Hagrid's invitation. There may very well be downright refusals to participate entirely.
As memory serves the previous Professor regarding this particular subject chose to undergo an early retirement because he wanted to spend time with his remaining limbs. Which isn't a figure of speech but an actuality.
Turns out Harry is the only one brave enough to take the leap.
"I'll do it," offered Harry, raising a hand.
There are murmurs from behind telling Harry not to do it, but he ignores them as he climbs over into the paddock itself.
"Good man, Harry," said Hagrid, encouragingly, pleased that someone was choosing to participate in the demonstration. He stops Bailey when she moves to follow her boy inside. "Best that Bailey waits outside of the paddock for this. Don't want anything outside to startle the hippogriffs."
Bailey lightly huffs and sits with her kids, preventing Bold from sneaking through the fence.
"Here you go. Have a bite of this," said Hagrid, tossing a dead ferret through the fence at the pups, one of a handful of ferrets he had on hand as treats for the Hippogriffs.
Bold catches the ferret in his mouth and gets into a tug-of-war with Bounder over it, leaving the former disgruntled over what he has to share.
"Right then, let's see how you get on with Buckbeak," said Hagrid. Hagrid picks up the gray hippogriff and moves it away from the rest of the flock, slipping off the leather collar so that it's standing without restraint. "Easy now, Harry. You've got to keep eye contact, now try not to blink. Hippogriffs don't trust you if you blink too much."
A good thing to know. Something Bailey gets the feeling Hagrid isn't speaking rhetorically.
When aptly named Buckbeak turns its attention over to Harry, Bailey really must resist bolting into the paddock and yanking her boy out of there by the back of his robes. She utilizes every ounce of her self-control to do the exact opposite. Especially as Buckbeak stares haughtily at Harry, who slowly bows in a gesture of utmost respect while at the same time asking permission to approach, not moving at all.
Sounding a touch worried, Hagrid said "Ah. Right, back away, now, Harry, easy does it…"
To everyone's enormous surprise, Buckbeak suddenly bent his scaly front knees and sank into an unmistakable, majestic bow.
"Well done, Harry," said Hagrid, ecstatic, tossing another ferret to Buckbeak as a reward which is devoured in quick efficiency by the delightful beast. "Right, you can touch him! Pat him on his beak, go on!"
Bailey would rather her boy had backed away instead of advancing. He patted the beak several times and the hippogriff closed its eyes lazily in pleasure, thoroughly enjoying the ministration.
The class broke into applause, all except for Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle, who were looking deeply disappointed that Harry hadn't gotten injured. An indiscernible expression crosses Malfoy's facial features.
Her sons and daughters wear huge grins on their muzzles, releasing gleeful barks.
Bailey, herself, feels as if a huge weight is lifted off her shoulders…for about 5 measly seconds.
"Right then, Harry," said Hagrid straightforwardly, beaming broadly. "I reckon he might let you ride him now!"
Say what.
"What," said Harry, alarmed.
Before Bailey has the chance to object Hagrid lifts Harry by the arm and abruptly places her boy on Buckbeak's back.
This is reaching borderline insanity.
"Now don't go yanking out any of his feathers because he won't thank you for that," advised Hagrid, slapping the hippogriff's hindquarters to get him moving.
Harry holds on for dear life around the hippogriff's neck as Buckbeak rears on his hind legs with a roar, flapping open his massive wings on either side of Harry. Harry literally clutches Buckbeak in a death grip as Buckbeak swiftly and gracefully takes to the air. Bailey acknowledges that Harry is a phenomenal flyer, but that's on a broomstick. This is a completely different case as she stands there with her ears pricked to catch any noise, fur standing on end, and her trail standing out as stiff as a branch at this heart wrenching turn of events. Her pups are more or less unphased by this, sitting around all cool and collected with Dreamer simply leaning a shoulder against her mother's, reading into Bailey's distress. The nerves causing Bailey's anxiety to rise lower significantly when her ears catch Harry's enlivened hollers originating from the Black Lake. Apparently, he's having the time of his life on Buckbeak's back.
Soon enough Buckbeak returns to ground at the paddock with Harry none the worse for wear.
The class applauds.
"Well done, Harry! Well done, Buckbeak," shouted Hagrid, assisting Harry in dismounting and lowering his voice. "How am I doing me first day?"
"Brilliant, Professor," said Harry, smiling toothily.
Hagrid makes a wry smile bashfully at the compliment, proudly basking in the success of his first class as a real teacher.
Bailey is unable to continue containing herself. Without further delay, Bailey slips through the paddock fence and darts over to her boy. Planting her front paws on Harry's chest Bailey enthusiastically licks his face over and over from chin to forehead.
Pushing her away, Harry laughed "Bailey! Bailey, I'm okay!"
Bailey knows. She's just glad to see him anyway.
Unfortunately, Hagrid's success is short lived.
Shoving other students aside as he climbs into the paddock and arrogantly makes a beeline for Buckbeak, brow arched, not bothering to even bow, Malfoy drawled "Yeah, you're not dangerous at all, are you? Are you, you great ugly brute?"
"Malfoy," gasped Hagrid, horrified.
Everything happened so fast after that.
Buckbeak roars, rearing on his hind legs and kicking his front at Malfoy in fierce aggression. Malfoy let out a high-pitched scream, raising his arms to block as a shield, but Buckbeak's talons never got the chance to even graze him.
Despite being the closest to the action someone other than Bailey intervened on his behalf.
In an instant Friendly was there on the scene, leaping in front of Malfoy and pushing him out of harm's way.
But in the process of saving Malfoy, Friendly is caught in the crossfire and is on the receiving end of the blow instead, Malfoy is sent tumbling into the dirt.
Friendly emits an agonizing yelp as his brothers and sisters come to his aid. Barking aggressively Bounder, Ranger, Bold, Charmer, and Dreamer circle around Buckbeak, biting and nipping at his legs and herding him back toward the other hippogriffs lined up against the paddock fence. Bailey immediately rushes over to her injured son as he whimpers in pain. Buckbeak had racked a taloned claw over Friendly's back near the shoulder. Blood can already be seen seeping from the fur, staining the strands.
Bailey frantically licks the wound as clean as she can get it to stop the blood flow and to soothe his pain. Harry doesn't waste any time pressing a ripped section of his robes to the wound to stem the blood flow from the deep gash. Hagrid uses the opportunity the pups provide in corralling Buckbeak to resecure Buckbeak to the line and keep him contained.
On his back, pointing at Buckbeak with a shaking hand, Malfoy exclaimed "It tried to kill me! Look at me! That bloody chicken almost killed me!"
"You're not dying! It didn't get you," said Hagrid, face underneath his beard gone very pale. "Harry, take Friendly to Madam Pomfrey right now! Go on! Get him out of here!"
Harry picks Friendly up into his arms, running out of the paddock with Bailey in hot pursuit. The others are staying to make sure there's no further trouble brewing.
As if there could be any more.
Some first day this turned out to be.
Authors Note:
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas! When and how do you think Bailey and the pups should first meet Sirius?
For those of you on fanfiction I'm sure you've been facing the many unwanted ads when you're reading a story. Well, yesterday, I finally had enough, and I got an adblocker app. It worked! No more ads on any level! The one I got is Adblock Pro: Safari Ad Blocker. It really works. Just follow the instruction video that it attached to it.
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of months ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
