A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 3 Chapter 12

Needless to say, the run up to the Hospital Wing was not a pleasant one. Friendly was crying the whole time all the way up and while Bailey knows Harry is doing his best, moving as fast as he can, she knows he can only go so far before beginning to slow down.

The entire trip Bailey feels a deep guilt coating over her very heart. From Bailey's perspective if she'd intervened to block Malfoy from approaching Buckbeak in the first place then Friendly wouldn't have risked getting injured on his behalf. Truthfully, it wasn't her fault but good luck telling her that from the state she's in.

Friendly's actions did make her proud. The way he jumped in there without hesitation to protect someone… makes her want to rip him a new one for doing this to his mother, putting Bailey in this situation.

They're fortunate Madam Pomfrey is such a good expert at her job. Otherwise, Bailey's anxiety would've shot through the roof by the time she was done.

Still, a gruesome knot manages to curl its way into Bailey's throat as she watches Madam Pomfrey's inspection and gives Friendly a pain relief potion to drink in a bowl and use her wand to heal and seal the talon marks. Truly it was a miracle Buckhead hadn't managed to dig his claws in deeper with how close Friendly had been. Friendly had lost a significant amount of blood, but after carefully checking Friendly over Madam Pomfrey quickly deduces that all Friendly needs is to keep hydrated, have a nutritious dinner, a decent night's sleep, and he should be as good as new by sunrise tomorrow morning.

During this procedure, Bailey had been lying supportively on the bed beside her son the whole time and Harry had Friendly's head in his lap, patting the dog's head in reassurance.

As Bailey understands, by the end of it, Friendly's fur remains a tad disheveled from the ordeal, but with slight scaring that'll be concealed underneath his fur. No true damage had been done aside from these marks.

The evening meal is already commencing in the Great Hall and per Madam Pomfrey's firm orders Harry is taking Friendly with them to have a filling meal before he and Bailey deliver him down to the pen.

Bailey can't stop licking Friendly around the ears as her security blanket that he's okay. Friendly is constantly pawing his mother's head to get her to stop. It's no use. There's no way for him to escape much to Bailey, Harry, and Madam Pomfrey's amusement and Friendly's embarrassment. If Friendly could blush his face would be redder than a tomato.

What occurred in Care of Magical Creatures didn't remain a secret for very long. At dinner, a lot of people were talking about it still.

Bailey and Friendly are in the middle of sharing a serving of a nice juicy steak, mashed potatoes, and carrots between them while eavesdropping on the conversations around them. Some even reach them from the other tables. Just tidbits here and there, but more than enough to get the gist.

The Slytherin's especially are up in arms, calling for Hagrid to get sacked.

Tapping her fingers nervously on the table, Hermione said "Do you think he'll be all right?"

"Course he will. But that was a really bad thing to happen in Hagrid's first class, though, wasn't it," said Ron, looking worried. "Trust Malfoy to find a way to deliberately mess things up for him. It's a good thing Friendly stepped in."

"Yeah, and not," said Harry, incredulously. "He still got hurt and Bailey was beside herself."

"Let's be thankful that Madam Pomfrey healed him so well," said Hermione, stroking Friendly's back. "But they wouldn't fire Hagrid, would they?"

Harry was watching the Slytherin table. A large group including Crabbe and Goyle is huddled together, deep in conversation. Harry was sure they were cooking up their own version of the events despite Malfoy getting a terrible fright instead of being horribly injured.

"Well, you can't say it wasn't an interesting first day back," said Ron, gloomily, taking a large bite out of his own steak and kidney pie.

Underneath the table Bailey licked the remnants of potatoes off her lips, savoring the taste. Bailey then notices there's one thing Friendly hasn't eaten yet. His portion of the carrots. He's pawing them apprehensively, shifting them around on his section of the plate and not taking a single bite. Bailey's not going to have that. Releasing a light growl Bailey smacks a paw lightly on his snout in chastisement. Having got his attention she woofs to show she is serious about eating the carrots. Ears pinned to the back of his head sheepishly a reluctant Friendly begrudgingly does so. He chews the carrots and swallows them with an obvious expression of disgust. Bailey licks him between the eyes to show her pleasure.

"Do you think we should go visit Hagrid," asked Hermione.

Looking at his watch, Ron said "If we hurry, we can go and see him when Harry goes to drop Friendly off. It's still quite early. Dinner is just ending."

"I don't know," said Hermione, slow and unsure, glancing at Harry.

"I'm allowed to walk across the grounds," he said, pointedly. "Sirius Black hasn't got past the dementors here, has he?"

No one can rightly refute that. There's common sense there.

So the group hastily finishes off their dinner and heads out onto the grounds, glad not to meet anybody on their way down to Hagrid's.

Friendly's brothers and sisters are there in the pen sleeping off their own dinner of the ferrets Hagrid on him that he'd intended to use as treats for the hippogriffs. To them, those ferrets were tasty and delicious.

Ears twitching Bounder lifts his head upon hearing their many footsteps approach. He greets them with a bark causing the others to raise their heads to find out what's happening. Seconds later all are at the fence with grinning faces and wagging tails, pleased to see their brother healed and sound.

Harry opens the gate and Friendly slips inside to join them as Hermione busies herself with knocking on the front door.

Hagrid's voice emerges, telling them to come in.

Before the door even opens Bailey can already detect the smell of alcohol and her suspicions are proven right on the dot at the first step inside. Hagrid is clearly distraught by what occurred on his first day as an official teacher. Fang has his head in Hagrid's lap offering whatever small comfort he can. All anyone has to do is take one look and can tell that Hagrid has been drinking a lot. Judging plainly by the pewter tankard almost as big as a bucket in front of him. Adding to this he seems to be having some difficulty getting them to focus.

Bailey wrinkles her nose in distaste moving over to the fireplace, lying down comfortably on the soft rug she found there.

"Suspect it's a record," said Hagrid, despairingly. "Don't reckon they've ever had a teacher who lasted one day before."

Hermione gasped "You haven't been fired, Hagrid?"

Miserably, Hagrid said "Not yet. But it's only a matter of time, isn't it, after Malfoy…"

"No one in the class got hurt and Madam Pomfrey healed Friendly right up without any other problems. Thanks to him Buckbeak didn't even touch Malfoy," said Ron.

"Since it's Malfoy the school governors have been told, of course. They reckon I started too big. Should've left Hippogriffs for later. Done flobberworms or something like that…Just thought it'd make a good first lesson. Was all my fault…," said Hagrid, devastated.

Earnestly, Hermione said "It was Malfoy's fault, Hagrid. None of that would've happened if he'd just listened."

"We're witnesses," said Harry. "You said hippogriff's attack if you insult them. It's Malfoy's problem that he wasn't listening. We'll tell Dumbledore what really happened."

"Yeah, don't worry, Hagrid, we'll back you up," said Ron, seeing their longtime friend being accused and at fault for this completely stupid.

Bailey adds her own two cents worth, barking in support.

Tears leaked out the crinkled corners of Hagrid's kind black eyes. He grabs both Harry and Ron, pulling them into a bone breaking hug. Hermione is lucky enough to be out of range.

Bailey winces when she hears bones crack but not break around the ribcage.

"I think you've had enough to drink, Hagrid," said Hermione, sternly, moving to take the tankard from the table.

Bailey gets there first.

Taking the tankard by the handle Bailey adeptly goes to the front door. Delicately standing on her hind legs Bailey opens the door with a paw and dumps the remaining liquid outside.

"Looks like Bailey thinks so too," chuckled Harry, rubbing her neck proudly.

"She's got the right idea," admits Hagrid, staggering outside.

Hagrid heaves himself out of his chair and stumbles unsteadily outside. They heard a loud splash.

"What's he done," said Harry, uneasily.

Peeking out the window, Hermione said "Stuck his head in the water barrel."

Hagrid returns, long hair and beard copping wet, wiping the water out of his eyes.

"That's better," he sighed, shaking his head like a dog and nearly drenching them all. "Listen it was good of you to come and see me, I really-." Hagrid stops dead, staring at Harry as though he'd only just realized he was there. The gigantic man then roars so loud and suddenly that it sends Bailey leaping about a foot in the air. "What do you think you're doing, eh? You're not supposed to go wandering around after dark, Harry! And you two! Letting him!" Hagrid strode over to Harry, grabbing his arm and pulling him to the door, Bailey following. Ron and Hermione don't dawdle. "Come on. I'm taking you all back to the school and don't let me catch you walking down to see me after dark again. I'm not worth that!"

Yup, he's back. Mission accomplished.

Authors Note:

At what time in the story should Bailey, the pups, and Brokefang first run into Sirius? I'm really stuck on that. I do have a small idea about that, but I'm open to suggestions on where that should go.

By the way Happy New Year!

For those of you on fanfiction I'm sure you've been facing the many unwanted ads when you're reading a story. Well, yesterday, I finally had enough, and I got an adblocker app. It worked! No more ads on any level! The one I got is Adblock Pro: Safari Ad Blocker. It really works. Just follow the instruction video that it attached to it.

Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of months ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.

When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.

Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.

Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.

Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
