Chapter 14 "Caught Up in You"
(Song suggestion- "Caught Up in You" by .38 special)
The Same day (September 1983)
Egon
Downstairs five minutes before ten in the morning, Janine arrived at work. This was evident because she screamed at Peter as he teased her about the happenings of last night. At the time, Ray and I were solving the new problem with Venkman's particle thrower. Janine's cute Brooklyn accent ringing through the Firehouse in the form of a scream distracted me for a moment, however.
"I'm going to load some free programs that I have," she roaringly replied to Peter as she stormed into the lab, "Yes,Dr. Venkman, I can still answer the phone."
"What a jerk," Janine mumbled under her breath before she saw us. Wearing a red knee-length corduroy skirt and a black blouse, she appeared fresh and stunning as always.
"Everything ok," Ray wryly inquired.
"Oh, sorry. Dr. V.'s driving me nuts already," the red headed lady lamented when she realized that we were in the lab, too. Janine had an apologetic smile on her lips.
"He's under the weather," Ray laughed at her response, "we all are."
Wordlessly, Janine went to the computer and sat on the stool in front of it. I watched her turn it on and wait for it to load. My mind returned to kissing her last night and how much I wanted to do it all again, including the dancing.
"Sorry Iggy, my head is aching and I can't figure it out right now," Ray listlessly confessed and he stood up from the lab table then stretched his arms a bit. He excused himself and went to the bathroom to retrieve some aspirin for his headache.
Ray sat back down to examine the proton packs with me again. We analyzed the main components of the equipment but no solutions were forthcoming.
"Let's try again in an hour. We have inspected the equipment three times already and can't find the problem," Ray suggested.
"It must be a very insignificant setting if we can't discover it on the central parts of the equipment," I mumbled.
When Stantz began to talk to Janine about the Ramones, I joined him on the sofa. Janine's back was to me as I strolled over there, so I was able to admire her backside quietly. When the phone rang, she leaned over from her chair to twist her body to pick up the phone on the coffee table.
"Thank you for calling Ghostbusters. How may I help you?"
Janine's sweet voice broke the silence in the room, and then she hung up the phone after letting them know they had the wrong number. She gazed at me with a slight grin, inquisitively, but didn't say anything. Like the three of us, Janine looked a little weary from last night, too.
A little later, our secretary mentioned that it would take a while for the files to load the pictures and she returned downstairs. That made me feel a little more relaxed. After all, I felt uneasy because I didn't know what to do in this situation. Ray and I were able to fix the problem on the particle thrower thirty minutes later.
Two hours later
"What's the verdict with Juliet, Spengler," Peter questioned me intently, entering the lab while smoking a cigarette.
"Is it love?" he joked, making kissing sounds.
"Huh?" I muttered while I sketched the new device I had in my mind and ignored my thoughts about the Brooklynite downstairs.
"Jesus," he moaned in an exaggerated fashion that only Peter Venkman could do.
"There's nothing to say, Venkman. You are making an issue out of something that isn't one," I responded finally, glancing at his face.
"My ass, Egon. What is your plan?"
"Hmm?" I mumbled.
" Iggy, you are truly hopeless," my close friend conceded, then he left the room again. A little later, we were all viewing the older pictures on the computer. Peter, and it amazed me to see how different my ex girlfriend and I were. I knew that Leslie and I had differences at the time, but it felt surmountable. Now I realized that we were utterly unsuitable for each other, and it showed.
Janine rang the thundering alarm indicating we had a bust an hour and half later. Like clockwork, Ray, Peter and I changed into our jumpsuits, slid down the pole, and packed the car.
"I want you to want me," Janine softly sang with the radio as I approached her desk, and my pulse raced when I saw her. She had a lovely singing voice, and it often enchanted me.
Although Janine and I exchanged subdued greetings before we left, it was a little tense. I hadn't made up my mind if I had time for her in my life in my pursuit of a Nobel yet.
We only had that one case to solve all day. With all of us dealing with hangovers, ranging from the slight to the more severe, it was more challenging than it would be on an average day. Fortunately, we managed to complete our work by four.
"Janine, may I speak to you when you aren't busy in my office," I questioned her with a boyish smile, hopeful, after returning from downstairs.
"Of course, Dr. Spengler. I'm free now if you are available," Janine replied, smiling, grabbing a notepad and a pen. I guess she thought she was going to take some notes.
I nodded, feeling anxious, and retreated into my office with her following behind me closely.
"Opened or closed," she politely asked, indicating the door after she entered the room
"Closed, thank you," I answered, sitting in the chair behind my desk, my hands sweating.
Janine shut the door and sat in the chair in front of my desk, ready to take notes expectantly. I couldn't speak, however, but this frequently happened when I was around her. Patiently, the pretty woman waited for me to begin with a tiny smile on her luscious red lips. I gestured to the sofa with my right hand, stood up and then sat there. Taken aback, Janine followed me. She sat close but not enough for me to kiss her, which I greatly desired to do again.
When I took the paper and pen out of her hands and placed it on my desk, her cheeks turned pink. Janine then gazed downwards at her nervously fidgeting hands in her lap.
Awkwardly, I reached over with my right hand to lift Janine's chin upwards. She simpered nervously and our eyes locked on each other.
"What were you trying to say earlier before Ray came back in?" I gently questioned, reluctantly removing my hand from Janine's face before putting it on my lap.
"Oh!" the charming lady distractedly exclaimed. "I wanted to ask you if you were embarrassed about what happened last night. I only wanted to help you have more fun..."
"Wait," I responded, in total disbelief, " why are you apologizing?"
"I pretty much threw myself at you last night although I knew you didn't like 'silly' behavior like that," Janine forlornly whispered, looking downward.
"There has been a misunderstanding, I think, Janine," I revealed softly, "I didn't ask you in here because I am cross with you."
"Oh?" She asked, wistfully, looking at me from underneath her eyelashes.
"Affirmative. This…is why I asked... you in... here, Janine," I informed, moving towards her to kiss. All the feelings from last night rushed back to me when we kissed. Without thinking, I put my hands on her waist to move her closer to me. Then I gave her another passionate kiss, and Janine didn't hesitate to return it.
"Egon," she murmured, " I was worried that.."
Again, I interrupted her by kissing her, wanting to clear any doubt in her pretty little head. She leaned into my body as we osculated, and her body felt hot against mine. Janine ran her hands through my hair as we kissed then put them on the back of my neck. Her lips felt like they were massaging me persistently but with love, and it felt tremendously blissful. Eventually, we stopped because we were out of breath. I kept my arms around her waist as I bluntly confessed,
"I had a remarkable time with you last night, Janine, the best night I have had in a lengthy amount of time. As you saw, I am not much of a dancer, but with you, I had the most fun dancing in my life."
"I had a fantastic time, too, Egon. I am so glad that you enjoyed it," Janine said, with a joyful smile and her eyes glimmering like glitter. She grabbed my hand, squeezed it, and innocently asked for the impetus for all of this new behavior.
"You, Janine. I have wanted to ask you out on a date for a while but couldn't get the courage to do so," I,honestly declared, "and then the timing with the taxi three weeks ago when we almost kissed. It's been maddening."
The only way to describe the pretty redhead's reaction would be to say it was 100 % jocund. I pushed my lips against Janine's sweet ones, unable to resist them any longer. We gave into a wave of temptation and made out for a long time.
Afterward, I requested that Janine join me for dinner tonight.
"I'd love to," she enthusiastically answered.
Grinning sanguinely, I couldn't believe my luck that this beautiful woman was free tonight.
"What do you think about Chinese take out on the roof? It is supposed to be a nice night to stargaze?"
Excitedly, Janine agreed and then stood up rapidly to answer the ringing phone,
"Thank you for calling, Ghostbusters; how may I help you," she cheerfully answered and then scribbled shorthand notes on the notepad she brought into my office.
"Yes, I will make sure, Dr. Stantz receives the message. Thank you for calling, good bye," Janine said, then hung up the phone. Standing up from the sofa, she gave me a small smile.
"Technically I'm still at work so I should go back to my desk," my crush reluctantly commented, "but I'd rather be here with you. Dr. V is already in a foul mood because he has a hangover. "
"That's too bad, but you are right," I remarked, touching her hand that was nearest to me, not being able to resist caressing her silky skin one last time, and she winked at me.
Nodding, Janine picked up her pen and pad of paper off of my desk and strolled to the door.
"When do you want me to place the order? I will pick it up and retrieve it," I asked.
"I guess, six thirty. Don't you want to know what you should order for me?"
"Two California rolls and wonton soup," I rattled off with a half-grin, and she nodded.
After blowing a kiss, Janine left my office and closed the door.
I, however, was caught up in my feelings and memories, so I laid back on the sofa felicitously and fell asleep.
"Iggy, " Peter woke me up as he abruptly entered my office then slammed the door to wake me up.
"Huh?" I replied, looking at the time, it was only 545 in the evening, but I still needed to take a shower. Unfortunately, I was still in my jumpsuit, and it stunk a little from our bust.
"What do you want to do for dinner, Iggy? Ray's talking about Indian food," Venkman probed, sitting in a chair spinning around playfully.
"Nothing, thank you. I'm eating Chinese takeout with Janine," I answered, waiting for his joke at my expense but for once it didn't come.
"Nice, where are you eating it? Here?" Peter quizzed.
"On the rooftop, it's supposed to be a nice night for stargazing," I responded, feeling embarrassed.
"Are you going to put the moves on her, Spengs," Peter slyly questioned, enjoying watching me squirm.
"What does that mean," I asked annoyedly, glaring at him.
"You know, have, Uhm, sex with her," he stated, wide-eyed, " wait a second, who's idea was this, hers?"
"No, Mine," I responded, ignoring the first question. Of course, I desired to go to bed with Janine and make love to her, but it was utterly inappropriate at this time. We had barely kissed, and that took me Seven months?
"Hello? Iggy, you didn't answer the question?," Peter teased, smiling widely.
"I have to take a shower now, please excuse me," I said politely, avoiding the question.
Peter followed me upstairs, giving Janine a deliberate look to her agitation.
"Have to clean up before you get down and dirty with Brooklyn, Spengler? Is that the plan?"
"Grow up, Peter," I growled, going to my shared room. He boisterously chuckled as I gathered some clean clothes to change into after I showered.
"Well, Spengler's out for once, Ray; he's got a date with a beautiful girl from Brooklyn he was dancing with last night at the bar. Must be a blue moon," Peter boldly yelled so Janine could hear as I gathered my clothes to change into after a shower. Shaking my head side to side, I went into the bathroom.
"Dr. Venkman," Janine shouted equally as loud, "don't you have something better to do?"
Peter and Ray laughed with Janine while I took a shower, but our leader harassed me about details afterward in the lab. Janine still remained downstairs working the rest of her shift.
"How are you going to eat in the dark, Brainiac?"
I pondered my friend's question for a minute.
"It's not dark until 7:45," I replied.
"Nice, and what are you sitting on?"
"The concrete," I answered like it was apparent.
"Wrong! It's too hard to sit in for long periods. Take a couple of blankets and pillows," Peter suggested, chuckling at my denseness.
'Uhm, won't that make it look like I'm trying to sleep with Janine?" I questioned, scowling.
"Noooo! It would look like you put thought into keeping her comfortable. Besides, you can look at the stars better on your backs," Stantz countered, giving me a wink.
"Ok," I relented and impatiently asked, "Anything else?"
"Nah, but you could do Brooklyn missionary style," Peter mischievously commented. They chuckled at my embarrassment and reddening face.
" I just want to spend some time with her, watching the stars," I said irritatedly, "that's it."
"Egon's going to put the moves on ya, Juliet," Vemkman joked, yelling downstairs, " watch out."
"Don't you ever have any work to complete, Dr. V.?" She demanded from below, and we all laughed at her response.
"Zing! That will be the day," Ray stated.
When it was six-thirty in the evening, Janine joined me on the rooftop, where I put the blankets on top of each other as a mattress. She smiled brightly as she sat next to me to where our rears touched, and I felt the magic from her nearness.
"Oh, it's so nice outside," Janine commented, looking at the colorful sky, " I love watching the sunset when I can."
"Yes, I remember from last night," I replied, grinning at my lovely dinner companion, then watching the sky for a second.
"This is a brilliant! I like the swirling pinks and oranges among the fading clouds," Janine marveled.
The tempting aroma from the brown paper bag holding our dinners overwhelmed us enough where we had to eat and stopped gaping at the magnificent sky. Consequently, I handed Janine a styrofoam take-out container with her order, plastic silverware, and a coke can I brought from downstairs.
"Thanks, I'm starved," Janine appreciatively thanked me.
We ate and disxussed our days as the sunset in the west, and it was a relaxing way to end the day.
"You look adorable," I complimented as we ate, giving her a half grin.
"Thank you, Egon," Janine answered, fluttering her thick black eyelashes at me. She then squeezed my free hand with hers eagerly. Afterward, Janine enclosed it in mine, and I raised her hand to my mouth to brush it gently with my lips before we persisted in eating.
"Supposed to be a nice night for stargazing, I checked the paper earlier," I admitted after we finished eating.
"Awesome!"
Janine placed our trash in the brown paper bag and then moved it to the side, away from us. I leaned back on my elbows, and she laid back on my chest lightly in front of me. When Janine did so, I felt tremendously content. After a while, I couldn't help but kiss the back of her long neck as it looked so tempting and titillating.
"Oh my," Janine responded, pleased," that gave me shivers up and down my spine."
Smiling, I did it again and again, then she giggled. I stopped for a while, satisfied for the time being, and put my chin on her shoulder. As we watched the sunset disappear into thin air, I put my arms around her slim waist. I pulled her back into me a little more, and Janine groaned, satisfied, "Oh, Egon. I'm so glad that you asked me to join you for dinner tonight."
Everything seemed idyllic as we watched the stars emerge from their hiding places and present themselves in the sky. The sexual energy between us felt so thick it could be cut by a knife as Janine laid into my chest, and I began kissing her neck and shoulders gingerly. I noticed that her breath caught in her throat when I did so.
"Are you playing with me," the gorgeous lady questioned after expressing a soft, throaty moan.
"Yes," I huskily whispered, "what are you going to do about it?"
Suddenly, my enchantress flipped her body around to face me. With a deliciously seductive expression on her face, I watched Janine crawl on all fours until she sat down on my lap, and I gulped noticeably. Her lovely eyes were full of desire, and she had a sly sneer on her lips. Janine's mouth was inches from mine, then she snogged me. Swiftly, I pulled her body closer to me while I probed Janine's mouth with my tongue, hungrily with an intense passion.
Janine placed her hands on my shoulders then pushed me on my back while giving me some great kisses. I wrapped my arms around her, so our bodies pressed against each other.
"You feel so sublimely in my arms, Janine."
Her face lit up as she moved off of my body and rested her head on my chest as the stars were starting to shine in the sky. I kissed Janine's head gently and rubbed her back as we gazed up at the stars.
"This is perfect," I murmured down to her.
"Mmm, mmmm," she blissfully agreed.
"Except, I can't see your enchanting face," I added.
Accommodatingly, the radiant Brooklynite lade sat up as I moved the pillow underneath my head and the other one next to mine. Next, I clasped her hand in mine and tugged it gently so she would join me lying down on her side. Slowly, Janine did, resting her head on the pillow next to mine with a provocative smile on her face. I noticed that she looked like a glowing angel on the dark-colored blankets, and she moved tantalizingly close to me, putting her left arm around my waist.
"You are so luminous; the stars pale in comparison; they are jealous of your beauty. You are an incandescent angel," I whispered, peering down at her, watching her felicitous reaction to my compliment.
"Oh, Egon. You are sweet," Janine mewled, running her hand through my thick hair, and it felt very stimulating as she did so.
Mesmerized, I used my free hand to touch her face with my fingertips, starting with her cheeks, down to her lips, chin, and her neck. She beamed happiness at me, and that was when I bent down to kiss her again. We kissed slowly. Janine put her hands around my neck, and I did the same as our bodies embraced. There was a powerful attraction that pulled us together like magnets.
"I think you are content, Egon Spengler. Is this the second time?"
"Affirmative. I'm enraptured at the moment," I whispered huskily, then asked Janine the same question with a raised eyebrow.
"I am delighted," She seductively suggested, "now kiss me."
That evening we gaped at the cloudless and clear sky from the blankets in between, kissing each other and lightly touching each other's arms, face and neck. It was a combination of steamy and idyllic at the same time- an unsurpassable follow-up to last night with dancing at the bar. My heart felt saturated with my emotions for Janine: happiness, desire, admiration, and love. It sang like an opera singer doing a solo, solid and steady. With Janine by my side, I felt like I could conquer the world, and most importantly, my fear of losing control.
Janine
Egon drove me home in Ecto One because it was almost midnight when we left the roof. Furthermore, he didn't think it was safe enough for me to go on the subway.
My favorite scientist didn't see that a few tears had escaped my eyes when we parted because, in my heart, I felt so feverishly in love with him.
Dear Diary,
Just when I thought I couldn't have a more blissful moment with Egon than last night, he pulled a massive bombshell on me.
At first, it was awkward between us earlier in the day until we had a moment alone where we held hands. Egon had barely spoken to me and wasn't looking at me when I was in the room.
Later on, to my amazement, Egon kissed me in his office when I thought he would give me an excuse for his behavior. Instead, he requested that I have dinner with him on the rooftop and stargaze.
At the end of my shift, I met him on the roof, where he had blankets and pillows laid out for us.. The sunset was a mixture of pinks and oranges like a canvas in the sky above us. I thought maybe he would be nervous, but he proved me wrong.
We cuddled and kissed each other, keeping it not too intimate and above the shoulders. I realized that I wouldn't have minded if Egon had tried the moves that Venkman teased me about earlier.
When we kissed, I felt like I was on fire with all my nerves standing at attention, and it felt marvelous. I hugged his body tightly and felt so comfortable in his arms when he held me. There wasn't an abundance of stars in the sky twinkling down on us, but there were some. Egon's passionate kisses are heavily tattooed in my mind now as well as the way I feel around him.
