Max walked out of a convenience store and put a Coca-Cola can in the trash, turning around he found the same man that has been following him everywhere he has been. Groaning he sat down onto a black Harley-Davidson forty-eight Sportster. "People these days don't know how to tail someone." He slid his helmet over his head before driving off.
Stopping at a light two men in suits walked toward him. "I need you to step off your bike." He reached for the keys.
"That's not going to happen." He slapped the man's hand away before speeding off.
"Hey!" The men ran toward their car and sped after him. Dodging through cars they followed him into the tunnel. "Watch out!" The Passenger yelled as Max parked at the exit, causing the driver to slam on his breaks.
Max growled as he took off his helmet, reaching behind him as he walked toward the car, he pulled out two 17.5-inch hatchets, with a steel head that had five spikes coming out of the blades, three on the blade, and two on the ends. Reaching the car, he stabbed the hatchet into the hood. "Stop following me." He stabbed the front tire with the other hatchet before ripping it off and walking away.
"Geez, no wonder we were told not to go after the Widow." The passenger whispered.
Max stopped and tightened his grip on his hatchets. "Watch out... No!" Screams were heard from the tunnel ending in an explosion sending car parts out of each end of the tunnel. Sheathing his hatchets he sat on his motorcycle and drove off. Hours later he found himself at a gas station in New Jersey. "Around these parts?" A man asked as they filled up their car.
"Just passing through."
"Do I know you? You look familiar."
Max shook his head. "Couldn't tell you." He felt something hit his foot and looked down to find a grenade. "There goes my vacation."
A blue Chevrolet Silverado was driving past when a giant explosion went off and was flipped over as something hit it. "What was that?" Natasha asked, climbing out of the window.
"Max?" Steve asked, grabbing his shield from the ground.
He groaned before looking up. "Steve, Tasha? I thought you were supposed to be on a mission." He stood up.
"Long story." Natasha said, giving him a side hug. "What are you doing here?"
"Tried to go on vacation." He chuckled.
Shots came from the flames as the three fell toward the ground. "Is everyone okay?" Steve asked.
"I'm hit." Natasha groaned, moving her hand away from her gut as it was covered in blood.
A silhouette came out of the flames holding an assault rifle. "Get her out of here." Max told Steve as he stood up.
Walking forward the man came into view revealing his black neck length hair with a mask that covered the bottom part of his face, and a metal arm replacing his left arm.
"Ty umresh'"
"Ne shans." The soldier dropped his gun and pulled out two knives. Max unsheathed his hatches and lunged forward to attack, the man parried the attack and slashed Max's arm. He groaned as he felt the silver enter his blood stream.
Holding his arm, he glared at him. "Vy ponyatiya ne imeyete, s kakimi silami imeyete delo."
"Poka mne platyat."
"Tvoi pokhorony." Max attacked him again causing the man to grab his wrist with his prosthetic and squeeze hard. He groaned in pain before the ground underneath cracked open causing them to fall into a darkish-red tunnel filled with holes that pumped steam through. "Dobro pozhalovat' v moy mir!" He growled as the tunnel collapsed causing them to fall downward, as they fell the two kicked each other into the walls and slashed at each other trying to hit the killing blow.
"Eto zakanchivayetsya zdes'." Max jumped on top of the man before falling into a hole and exiting into the real world. The man stood up holding the upper part of his prosthetic and looked toward the ground where the other half was stuck in the ground. "Poluchayte udovol'stviye, vynimaya eto!" He tapped the ground with his foot before disappearing and reappearing in the middle of a road where a black SUV slid to a stop.
"Get in." Steve rolled down the windows.
"Are you okay?" He asked Natasha.
"I've been better." She leaned her head against the back of her seat.
"I saw a motel the last time I checked the map."
Max raised an eyebrow and looked at Steve. "What?"
"We have the internet."
"I know, but... Why can't I use the maps."
"Why do you want me to use the maps?"
"It's easier, that's all I'm saying."
"Excuse me..." Natasha spoke up. "How about saving the injured person."
"I think this is a little..." He stopped talking when Natasha gave him a death stare. "I... think we should hurry." He looked at Steve.
"Who was that?" He asked, stitching up Natasha while she laid on a bed in a motel.
"The winter soldier, I met him once before in 2009 when SHIELD had me on an escort mission in Iran. He shot me and killed my target."
Max traced his finger over her scars. "He told me he was a mercenary for hire." He looked at her.
Steve walked through the door holding a plastic bag. "Am I... interrupting." He looked at Max and Natasha.
Natasha cleared her throat and stood up. "No..." She slid her shirt on. "What did you get?"
"Chips and water, will eat and drive."
"Shotgun!" Max yelled.
"I called Shotgun."
"I'm injured." Natasha smiled as she turned around from the front seat.
Max shook his head in amusement. "What I don't get, is why are we getting attacked?" Max asked.
"Being attacked is a Tuesday for us."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." She chuckled.
"We killed Richie a year ago. Why wait that long?"
Steve shook his head. "Who knows." He stopped the car and got out.
"I never thought I would come back to this dump." Max looked at a sign that read CAMP LEHIGH ARMY BASE.
"You won't be for long. I need you to find out anything you can about this mystery attacker."
"You got it." He tapped his foot on the ground causing a hole to appear. "Stay safe!"
"Don't I always?" Natasha laughed.
Max smiled and jumped down the hole. Peaking around a corner two soldiers wearing all black combat suits, with the HYDRA symbol on walked towards him. Turning the corner he was gone. He looked through the door window watching them leave. He turned around to find himself in the break room with two soldiers watching him. "Sorry." He chuckled. "I was just leaving."
"Hands in the air!" They shouted pointing their weapons at him.
"I wish you wouldn't have done that!"
"Woah!" A dark-skinned man said as a hole appeared in his kitchen. Max slid out of the floor with a tattered tank top covered in bullet holes. "There you are! Between getting shot at the HYDRA base and then getting shot at again at Lehigh. You had me worried for a second."
"Sorry." Natasha groaned sitting at a table wearing a black tank top and holding an ice pack to her head.
"Are you okay?" He hugged and kissed her on the head.
"I'm fine."
"Steve?"
"I'm fine, thanks."
"Hold up, who are you? Who is this guy?"
"Sorry, I'm with them. The names Max Casing." He held out his hand.
"Sam Wilson." He shook his hand.
"What did you find out?" Steve asked.
"The man is a "Winter Soldier..." He placed a thick manilla folder on the table. "In 1945 HYDRA created him, there plan was to make more, but..." He looked at Natasha. "The Soviet Union stole the formula in 1995." He flipped over to another page.
"In 1951 they deployed him into the Korean War, but obviously they lost. 1963, he was hired to assassinate JFK." He flipped another page. "In 1991, he killed the Starks for a new improved super serum which, like I said was stolen by the Soviet Union. From 1963 to now he's assassinated nearly two dozen targets."
Steve placed his hands over his mouth in thought.
"What did you find out?"
"HYDRA is within SHIELD."
Max sat down and looked at them. "Are you serious?"
Steve nodded his head. "Yeah." He mumbled.
Max smiled before laughing. "We've been working with our enemy." He looked downward. "You know, every corporation has a weak link." He smiled.
"I need a minute bring the car around." Sitwell said as he looked at his phone.
The guards nodded their heads before leaving. "How much money is HYDRA paying you guys?" Max asked, causing them to turn around.
"Put your hands in the air!" They pulled out their guns.
"Not going to happen." He looked at the civilians around them. "I think you should put your hands in the air." He said as Sam walked toward them wearing the flight suit.
"We're not paid enough for this shit." One of them said. "We're bodyguards, you think they tell us anything? Every time Sitwell has a meeting with Stern or Pierce we are always told to stand by the door. We may work for HYDRA, but we do not work for HYDRA, if that makes any sense?"
"Well, if you ever work for HYDRA in any type of way again, we will find out and we will kill you. If that makes any sense?" Max said.
"Spend time with your family..." Sam gently placed his hands on the other guards' arms. "Live life to its fullest. Work for TSA..." He was interrupted as a scream echoed through the city. "That's my cue." Wings ejected out of his flight suit before launching him upward.
The three looked at each other in silence before Max broke it. "The problem is, I can't let you just walk away because that would look really bad for you."
"So..." The guard was interrupted when Max kicked him into the street before being hit by a car causing him to fly over the hood.
The other guard punched for Max; Max caught his punch before kicking his leg popping his bone out, elbowing his arm he broke it and slammed his face into the ground. "Thanks for doing business."
"Finished?" Natasha asked walking toward him.
"Yeah..." He nodded his head.
"We're taking Sitwell with us to HY... SHIELD HQ. Steve needs you to look up this." She handed him a piece of paper.
"Are you okay?"
"It's not the first time something came crashing down on top of me, not going to be the last."
"Okay..." He said before turning around.
"Max..." She called him back.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." He smiled.
"I know we're on a mission, but after, did you..."
"I'd like that." She smiled.
Max tapped his foot on the ground before disappearing. "Ready?" Steve asked.
"Always."
Max was flipping through files in a filing cabinet when he looked up. "They didn't!"
"They did!" He looked down from an overpass to find gunmen shooting at them. Looking around gunmen shot from the overpass down on them. The gunmen turned their attention to Max as he ran toward them, jumping on one of them he stabbed his hatchets into his chest multiple times before throwing his other one into another's head. Looking down he found gunmen surrounding Natasha and Sam as they used a car as cover.
Max growled and jumped off the overpass. Running toward an enemy he slid on the ground before stabbing his hatchet into his foot knocking him down allowing him to stab his other into his head, jumping forward he grabbed another by the neck and used him as a human shield as he ran forward as another shot at him, throwing the shield at the guy he jumped forward, extracted his claws and ripped the guy's head off. Looking up his canines protruded out his mouth. He roared in anger and ran toward the rest of the gunmen.
Steve kicked the winter soldier throwing him on the ground, he dodged out of the way as Steve slammed his shield down. Kicking him in the face he jumped toward him and punched him in the gut twice before grabbing him by the neck and slamming Steve on the ground.
Max ran into the winter soldier and picked him up while the soldier punched him in the back. Slamming him on a car's hood he punched toward him, dodging out of the way he head-butted Max before kicking him in the face knocking him back.
Standing up the winter soldier pulled out a knife. Slashing at Max, he dodged out of the way allowing Steve to punch the knife out of his hand but was caught by his prosthetic. He turned his attention to Steve, attacking him allowed Max to stab his claws into his skull before grabbing him by the back and raising him in the air, he was about to slam him on the ground when he wriggled out of the grasp and stabbed Max in the shoulder. Groaning in pain he slashed him on the face, tearing off his mask before kicking him away.
The winter soldier slid his hand over his face before looking at the two. "Bucky?" Steve asked.
He looked at Steve and then at Max before grabbing a grenade and throwing it at them, dodging out of the way they looked back where he was at, and he was gone.
"This just got a hundred times worse." Max groaned, tearing the knife out of his shoulder.
Steve looked at Max as he raised his arms in the air and slapped them on his legs. "What's going on?" Natasha asked, running toward them. "What did I miss?"
"You're telling me that this friend of yours, Bucky Barnes. Who is supposed to be dead, is alive?" Sam asked, placing four beers on the table.
"Yeah." Steve said softly.
"At least we know he's alive." Max smiled.
"This is nothing to joke about!" Steve yelled.
Max stopped smiling.
"Calm down, both of you!" Natasha said sternly looking at Max.
Max breathed out heavily. "Sorry."
"It's okay." Steve said. "We need a plan to get into the HQ, and with Sitwell dead it's made it a lot harder."
"Why don't we just go through the front door?" Sam asked.
"I like this guy!" Max chuckled, placing his arm over his shoulder. "What's the plan?"
Max punched a guard as he ran up the stairs. Grabbing his hatchets, he stabbed them into the guy's neck as he walked out of a door and threw him down the stairs. "I'm in position." He stopped at a door.
"I really have to give it to you... my employer was very pleased when I told him about Max." Pierce said. "You and Steve were our targets but... Max was part of the package." He smiled. "You can come out now, Max!" He pointed a gun toward Natasha. "If you don't come out, I'm going to shoot, Tasha, is it?"
He looked at the door and then at Natasha. "I'm going to count to three. 1... 2... 3." He looked at Natasha. "What's going on? He abandoned you." He laughed. "You must be used to that?" He pressed on the trigger when he let out a blood curdling scream as his hand fell on the floor.
"I don't leave family!" Max grabbed him by the neck. "I should kill you..."
"Wait, we still need him." Natasha interrupted.
"What more could you use of this useless piece of flesh?"
"A retinal scan."
Max huffed in annoyance, walking him toward the scanner he carefully lifted his eyelids allowing the scanner to scan his eye. "We're done with him." Fury said.
"N-No." Pierce tried to wriggle his way out but with no avail. "Why does the enemy always try to escape when they get caught." He tapped his foot on the ground causing the ground to open in front of them and steam to surround pierce. "Bye-bye." He dropped him down the hole causing his scream to trail down until it went silent.
Natasha walked away from Steve who was standing in a cemetery. "Ready?" She asked Max, who was waiting beside a tree.
Max smiled and grabbed her hand. "Always." He tapped his foot on the ground and disappeared, before reappearing in his room.
Natasha looked around the red colored room, with stuffed werewolves as statues standing around, and werewolf heads mantled onto the walls. A giant chunk of moonstone glowed as it sat on a pedestal. She smiled and sat at the end of the bed. "It always feels so peaceful here." she said softly.
"Only with you here." He kissed her.
