The cabin is their private place which only a handful of people, beside them, know about, is on the outskirts of Chicago, their home away from home.
Kurt is driving with her in the passenger seat and Justice in the back, Kurt's hand is on her leg, her hand over his. The car is silent which doesn't bother them. They like the silence that surrounds them.
She sighs as she leans her head against the window, her eyes closing of their own free will; it's been a long and tiring week for her at the firm, and she's looking forward to having the entire weekend off to relax with her husband, and her dog.
"Di, you okay?" Kurt's voice is laced with concern. She opens her eyes and lifts her head off the window, turning to look at her husband who's stopped at a red light. "I'm fine, Kurt, it's just been a long week." She says truthfully.
Her week has been full with court, depositions, partner meets and trial prep, nonstop. She barely had any sleep in a week, which is causing Kurt to worry about her.
"You need to relax this weekend, Di, no work." Her husband says firmly. She chuckles as she lies her head back against the window, her eyes closing.
The feel of the car rolling down the roads, her husband's hand on her knee, and the sound of Justice's soft snuffles, lull Diane into a light sleep.

Diane stirs when her shoulder is gently shaken, waking her up from a content nap. Her car door is open, and Kurt is staring at her. "You woke me up." She says accusatory. Kurt just chuckles and offers her his hand to help her out of the car.
"Sorry, hon, but we're here." Kurt says as he steadies her. She closes the door after her and watches as Justice jumps out of the car, running around the drive and up to the cabin, barking and yapping.
Diane walks up to the cabin and unlocks the door using the key she has.
Walking into the cabin is like coming home again. She slips off her shoes, puts them in the shoe rack and walks deeper into the cabin that has become third home to her.
The cabin is large and sits on 2 acres of land, with a master bedroom with 4 guest rooms with en-suites, a wrap a round porch with a dock and a pond a little ways into the forest, and a mini stable with horses to ride. The sun is shining through the clouds, flowing through the windows and into the cabin.
She sits down on the couch, tucking her feet underneath her, looking out the large sliding doors. She's always loved coming here for a weekend, being out of the city, especially in the weeks following Will's death, where the memories were overwhelming for her in the city.
Suddenly she's being pulled close to her husbands chest, the smell of gunpowder, sweat, body wash and an unidentifiable scent that is her husband swirls around her like the wind swirling leaves around.
"You okay?" He asks her again. She leans into his side.
"We should have invited Alicia and the kids, they needed a break as well, after what they found last week." Diane says.
It's no secret to anyone that Diane and Alicia have renewed their friendship after Will's death, and Diane formed a close bond with Zach and Grace as a result of her friendship with Alicia, something that they thought would never happen after she and Cary had left Lockhart/Gardner, but it was the only 'good' thing to come of his death.
Last week it was reported, and confirmed, that Peter Florrick had been cheating on Alicia, again, and had been since his acquittal five years earlier. Diane, Cary, Kalinda and David Lee were with her when she found out, again, from the news. Diane's heart broke for the younger woman as she fell to the floor, tears streaming down her face, her mouth open in a silent scream. She, Kalinda and Cary had all dropped down beside her while David had called Eli Gold to make sure it was factually correct, which it was, Diane knew that nothing they could do would ever make this okay.
Diane saw Alicia's eyes searching for something, for someone, in her office, or rather in the office across from hers, they all did:
Will.
It was Will who helped pick her up and put her back together after Peters first scandal, and knew that it was only Will who could pick her up and put her back together again, but he was dead, and it was at that point in time that Diane, and Kalinda, Cary and David, wished that reincarnation was real. So that he could pick up Alicia again.
Everyone knew that if Will were still alive when this came out, when he saw her face, watched her fall to her knees, that whatever war that the two of them were currently fighting would have been called to a ceasefire the second he saw her and he would've taken her into his arms and simply held her for however long she needed before taking her to his place after checking in with Zach and Grace and seeing how they were doing, while the rest of them took care of her cases, court, client meetings and more importantly the press and Peter, while Alicia was being picked up and being put back together again by Will.
They hated seeing her face and hearing the wail that had left her mouth when she came to the realisation that it wouldn't be Will Gardner who picked her up and put her back together again this time. Alicia had launched herself into Diane's arms and simply cried herself out.
"We'll bring them next time, promise. You need a weekend to relax without worrying about Alicia and the kids, no matter how much you love them, you can't keep worrying about them, Di." Kurt says, kissing her hair. She's not the only one who loves Alicia and her two children, Cary, Kalinda, David, Julius and her husband all love those three.
"I know, but I can't help it, Kurt, she's been hurt one too many times by that man who calls himself her husband. First Alicia's life comes crashing down by Peter's sex scandal and his corruption charge, he's imprisoned, he's acquitted, Alicia and Will start a seven month affair they're both happier than I've seen them, Alicia's daughter goes missing, she ends her affair with Will, they're both miserable, Will is investigated by Wendy Scott-Carr, brought before a Grand Jury, suspended for 6 months, Alicia and Cary start their own firm, that in turn starts a war between Will and Alicia, Will's shot and killed in court, devastating everyone, it destroys Alicia, I leave Lockhart/Gardner, join Alicia and Cary, before we came back to where we belonged, minus Will, Alicia took Will's office despite the memories that being in there bring up, then she finds out her husband has been cheating on her for years, while he told her that the man she loved didn't love her back which was a damn lie by the way we all knew Will loved her, that she was loving a dead man. It's not fair, Kurt, she didn't do anything to deserve what's happened to her these last five years!" She gets out. Kurt rubs her shoulders soothingly.
"I know, she didn't deserve anything that has happened to her, Di," her husband says, Kurt, Zach and Grace have really gotten along during the months they've known each other. "but you need to take a weekend to relax, and think about yourself and on Monday, we can invite Alicia, Zach, Grace, Cary and Kalinda around for dinner, and the kids and Alicia can chase Justice around the apartment. But please, Di, just for the weekend, relax, okay?" She knows Kurt is worried about her, and she loves him for it.
"Okay, and I have a few ideas on how to relax." She says seductively, Kurt laughs as she kisses him deeply.

She lies her head on her husbands hairy chest, panting heavily. Her husband can make her feel 22 without even trying.
"That... was... amazing." She gets out through heavy pants, Kurt chuckles. "Thank you." He says smugly. They hear Justice barking from downstairs, and Diane groans. "She wants her dinner." She tells her husband. Kurt sits up and pulls on his boxers. "I'll go feed her, then start our dinner." He says with a kiss to her lips before leaving their bedroom. Diane watches as her husband leaves with a smile on her lips. As much as she loves her lawyer family, she's happy to have a weekend just with her husband.
