Chapter 26: Emissary III: Excursion
November 7th
Age 762 (2012), West City, Wukong Hospital
"And the Green Lanterns are an intergalactic police force of sorts?"
"That's correct." Hal Jordan nodded in agreement as he folded his arms together. Surprisingly the group was taking this better than he had expected.
"And where exactly were you guys when we were getting our ass kicked? Aren't you the guardian of this sector?" Bulma was less than impressed. If everything he was saying was true, his power could have been used during the fight with the Saiyans.
"Unfortunately, I had a prior engagement on the planet Oa," Hal Jordan shrugged. At least they had managed to avert the crisis. "The guardians called me in for some much-needed training after getting this ring."
"So you're a rookie then?" Batman keenly deduced as he raised a brow. It was an unexpected discovery considering the confident aura the man in question gave off.
"Something like that," Hal mumbled, quickly wanting to shift the topic of discussion. "But back to the matter at hand, I hope you'll take my warning very seriously."
"If Frieza is so powerful and dangerous…why don't the Green Lanterns handle him? You seem more than equipped to do it." Clark was still cautious of the man in front of him. His heartbeat indicated that he was telling the truth, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was being left out.
"It's a matter of intergalactic politics that can't really be discussed here. All you need to know is that Frieza and the rest of the PTO are to be avoided at all costs. They will not hesitate to destroy you or your friends."
"That sounds like a challenge," Goku grinned as he slowly rose from his hospital bed. "I hope we get to fight him!"
"Didn't you hear what I said earlier? Frieza is more powerful than everyone in this room combined. You do not want to engage him!" A baffled Hal Jordan exclaimed as he rose to his feet. "He'll destroy you!" His pitch rose even higher to make it unequivocally clear.
"We heard you and we understand," Batman interjected. While he didn't completely trust this Green Lantern, it was clear Frieza posed an imminent threat to everyone at hand.
"So what are we supposed to do if we run into Frieza or his men on our way to Namek?" Krillin frowned as he pondered the terrifying possibilities.
"You might be able to defeat some of his men considering the fact they aren't all that powerful," Hal was willing to give them a fighter's chance in that scenario. "But if you happen to run into Frieza's top fighters or God forbid, Frieza himself, you should run away as quickly as possible."
"That will make gathering the Dragonballs even harder now though." Gohan pouted as he took a seat on his father's bed. All he wanted to do was resurrect Piccolo and all the people who had died, but things kept getting even harder.
"So this turned from a simple hunting trip into a covert operation?" Bulma sighed as she leaned against a nearby wall. The odds of Goku, Gohan, and Krillin avoiding detection from an enemy force was all but impossible. None of them had the slightest of tact. This was a problem in and of itself.
"I still have a few pressing questions," Batman spoke up, no longer being able to contain the thoughts circulating around his mind. "How did Frieza discover the Dragonballs? And how did you learn that Frieza even knew about them?"
Green Lantern sighed deeply. He had read the files on Batman and heard of his analytical mind, but he still hadn't been prepared for these assortments of questions. "Ironically, Frieza discovered the Dragonballs because of you guys."
"Because of us?" Everyone in the room glanced around at one another, sharing perplexed expressions.
"Well, not anyone in this room specifically," Hal Jordan quickly corrected himself. "It was because of Piccolo. Following Raditz death, Piccolo's conversation about the Dragonballs being on Earth was overheard by Frieza. Vegeta believed he was using a private frequency on his scouter, but Frieza was still tapped in. When Piccolo was killed that information was relayed back to him once again due to the scouter. He knew the Namekian's death meant the end of the Dragonballs for this planet. He then began searching for the Namekian home world which he found rather quickly."
"Piccolo and that damn mouth of his! Why can't villains ever shut up?" Bulma groaned as she palmed her forehead. Everything kept pointing back to Ma Junior.
"The Green Lanterns learned of Frieza's discovery due to our spy network. We have several covert agents in the PTO. As soon as that information was relayed to the corps, I was ordered to return to Earth and inform you all." Hal said in conclusion.
Batman scowled as he placed a hand underneath his chin. So many unexpected anomalies kept appearing. It was bad enough that Earth's heroes were down to such low numbers, and now an intergalactic threat was upon them. It would require the utmost amount of delicacy to keep everything stable.
"Seeing as how you've provided us with all this information…will you be joining us on our mission?" A hopeful Krillin asked. The Earth could use all the help it could get at this point.
"As much as I would like to, I can't," Hal grimaced as he glanced down at his ring. There were strict laws he had to abide by. "Namek is outside the reach of my sector. I have to protect this planet as well as everything in sector 2814. I can't just up and leave."
"Well, what about another Green Lanter then? You did say there are thousands of Green Lanterns stretched out across the Universe." Superman proposed. Surely one of the other Green Lanterns would be able to help.
"No one else will assist you either. The Green Lantern corps has strict non-interference laws with the PTO. We cannot directly engage them under any circumstance."
"What?!" Bulma's eyes expanded as she shouted. "What kind of useless police force are you guys?"
Hal Jordan remained stale faced as the rest of the room shared her bewildered sentiments. Quite frankly he didn't understand the guardians logic either, but he had to abide by it.
"Without going into too much detail the Green Lantern corps and Frieza's organization have a peace treaty of sorts. This peace treaty is the only thing stopping what would be an all-consuming war. It's a matter of risk assessment."
"Risk assessment? How can you weigh risk assessment against innocent lives? From what you've told us Frieza is a tyrant! Your leaders have the capability to fight him yet refuse to do so!" Superman was irate. Injustice anywhere was a threat to justice everywhere.
"Look, I don't agree with this policy either but I can at least understand the logic." Hal waved his arms defensively. If it was up to him the PTO would have been eradicated ages ago. "I can't do anything about it, but you can."
After a long pause, Batman finally responded. "He's right. All we can focus on now is the task at hand." There was no point crying over spilled milk at this point.
"At the very least it would be nice if Green Lantern could provide us with a way to get to Namek, we have no clue where it even is." Krillin sighed as he rubbed his temples. While this new found information was helpful, it didn't do much in practice.
Rising from her post against the wall Bulma grinned. "Leave that up to me, I have everything covered."
A big thank you to everyone who reviewed chapter 25!
Authors Note: Thanks to all my reviewers for helping me crack 800 reviews! I know this chapter was very short compared to normal standards, but I just needed to put something out after a somewhat long break.
Q/A:
TaitanoRules555: Yes.
Talonsen: The Omni-King doesn't exist in this story.
dark flacon: 1. Both 2. Superboy Prime will probably not make an appearance.
SaiyanIncubus: I'm not even sure I'll include the Red Lanterns in this shared Universe.
Mercwiththemouth: Kid Buu is my favorite form.
GokuBlackGodOfDe: Supergirl will be a full-blooded Kryptonian.
Exploding Sun: I'll work on my Grammatical errors. The entirety of New York was not destroyed. Ever since Nappa arrived I have continuously stated that is was only Manhattan that was destroyed. The location in the previous chapter even said "remains of Manhattan". In the comics, American organizations such as ARGUS have actually recruited people from all over the world and have even recruited extraterrestrials. Nothing I'm doing is out of line with the logic that DC comics itself has showcased. The same is true for your Batman question. In the comics, Batman has developed similar tools against threats. He is one of the smartest people in the DC Universe and it's been showcased time and time again. I've previously mentioned something called 'suspension of belief' to you. By your own logic, Dr. Gero shouldn't have been able to figure out Saiyan or Namekian physiology when it's taken human's hundreds of years to learn about their own and we still don't have it figured it.
Animeguy1101: Superman and Batman never used the Dragonballs because of their limitations.
darkmist111: Even with the Tree of Might current Turles still wouldn't be anywhere near Diana. Pretty much all the religions are real in the DC Universe. Beerus has nothing to do with the Egyptian pantheon. I already explained the set up with him and the Kai's in previous chapters. Your Dr. Gero idea sounds good.
Guest-3142017: Beerus is powerful but the DC Universe has a multitude of characters with equal or greater strength.
Guest: Bart Allen won't appear until much later in the story.
Nikola the Einstein: I'm not sure how Beerus' Hakai works, but he potentially could.
S3rp3nte: I'm only using Beerus and Whis because that was my initial intent when I originally made this story and I plan for it to end after the Buu saga. I'm not going to mention multiple gods of destruction or attendants. It'll kind of be like BOG when we didn't know much about Beerus and Whis, it'll be left vague. I never said that the Olympians potential hax makes them to superior to Beerus. The point that I've always maintained is that we've never seen Beerus go up against any. It's possible it might not work against him due to him being too strong, but we've just never seen it.
EXTRA 9: 1. No 2. You'll see why they haven't 3. Goku can't sense Diana's, Ki. DC Characters do have Ki, it's just extremely difficult for people who aren't Homo Magki to learn how to use it. 4. Homo Magki and Homo Magi are sub-races who have a natural affinity towards Ki and magic.
SCIENCE9: 1. The reach probably won't be a part of this story. 2. Superman will eventually be stronger than New 52 Superman. 3. No one is in control of Beerus but himself. 4. New Genesis is in another dimension- Beerus can't even access it. 5. Some people are aware of Beerus. 6. Too many spoilers, I can't answer. I'm not going to do Super. It conflicts with the way this story has been set up from the very beginning and I'm just not interested.
Trebeh: I don't feel like you were trying to force me to change the pairing. Trunks just need to be a Saiyan though.
Guest: The issue with pairing Bulma and Vegeta with other people is the fact that it would decrease the number of Saiyans. If I pair Bulma with another character Trunks will not longer be a Saiyan. If I pair Vegeta with another character Trunks won't really be Trunks by name or by physical features. No reason for me to change it.
PAGE 200: Superman's defeats have all been for a reason. It's building up to something.
Spirax 570: 1. Idk 2. Babadi's mind control isn't strong enough to control the people you mentioned. That's an interesting prediction.
Bro123: I already have my ideas planned for how I'll keep the rest of the DBZ cast relevant. Thanks for the suggestions though.
HERGE 8: Can't answer your questions, too many spoilers.
Pro 10: Due to the countless number of opponents that the cast will face throughout this story, they will become much stronger when they eventually face Beerus. It's plausible that Goku will reach another SSJ level by the time Beerus finally shows up.
Nett876: The Vegeta/Bulma pairing is going to remain the same.
Guest: As I stated above, the Vegeta/Bulma pairing is going to remain the same. Vegeta and Supergirl will make no sense in this story especially considering my plans for her introduction. Also, Supergirl is an underage teenager too. There's a huge age difference between them.
JOEL: Can't answer your questions. Too many spoilers.
VOLCOM 119: 1. Whis speed has never been quantified so I can't answer. 2. Probably not
Nanin 123: Can't answer your questions. Too many spoilers.
