(looks around for a second) Hmm... I need a change of pace. It's been a while since I updated my image and my name. (typing sounds) There we go. Looks like the new Spectrum Scribble is ready to go. (looks at myself) Oh yeah. One more thing. (squeaks nose twice and transforms into a new ponysona) Perfect! Now then, on to work. (reads the comments section and gulps nervously) Oh boy... Well, no joke right now, y'all are putting me on the spot about who Rowan should be with. But I won't deny that I'm definitely getting a Rowan centered episode idea from the debate. Maybe I'll make an episode similar to I Love Lothor from Ninja Storm where Ollie amd Javi compete for Rowan's affection. But no love potions! For one, that is the dumbest idea in the history of Power Rangers! For another, even if I did make a villain who would be able to manipulate love, I have no idea where to start with that, so maybe you guys could give me some ideas in the comments? It would help me so much. Either way, that's another opportunity to bring in Veteran Rangers. As you can tell, I'm trying to do what Megaforce should have done better: Show more veterans still fighting way beyond their time. And don't worry about Kimberly. I plan to bring her into Rowan's story as well. If I get the chance to avoid spoilers. Damn you, spoilers! (groans) Eh, maybe I'll catch up on the other episodes through Netflix while I'm at school, in between class and extracurriculars and such... (giggles, eye twitching) Anyway, onto "Stego Search", where Javi finds his Zord in time for an advantage over Boomtower! And maybe Rowan tries to show Warden Garcia how stubborn he's really being to his kids by knocking sense into him? Let's do this. (drops Disclaimers in)
Disclaimer: I don't own Power Rangers, as it is owned by Hasbro as of May 1, 2018.
(Rowan's POV)
Solon had called the six of us down to the base with good news in store. "I finally finished the Zord finder! Thanks to Rowan's input plus looking at some models from the Energem finder prototypes, we're sure to get the location of the Stego Spike Zord without any more problems!"
I smiled brightly. "Excellente! That means more versatility for the team!" So far we had unearthed six out of the fifteen Zords we had seen thus far, so this meant we were basically up to almost half of the Zord team.
"Then Javi can join us with his Zord." Ollie seemed like an eager beaver as well.
Amelia looked around. "Speaking of Javi, where is he?"
I glanced at Izzy before she explained to the team. "If Javi's missing, then nine times out of ten, he's either got a new musical instrument to play or he ate something that didn't go down well."
"And considering Javi said he wanted to get a new keytar, I'm betting it's the former. But if that's the case..." I cringed slightly, sharing a meaningful look with Izzy. Knowing Warden Garcia, he was gonna try and take Javi's new instrument away.
"Anyway, can we try this baby out?" Ollie asked excitedly.
"Yep! Let's give her a whirl, team!" Solon activated the finder as the others crowded around her.
Me, I decided to follow that gut feeling I had and teleported myself up to Javi's location to check on him.
Once above ground, I activated my Dino Fury Cycle in its standby BMX mode and kicked off, riding off to find Javi where one of his favorite spots would be. As I rode along the wooded path, I thought over the past week and the updates I had gotten on Master Casey's position. Since Izzy had awakened her tiger spirit, RJ had found stronger surges of tiger energy around Area 62, but I knew that area was blocked off for so long that no one was allowed in there. So why was it showing up there rather than around a more populated and non-restricted place?
But that only left more questions than answers that not even RJ could give me, so I was gonna have to rely on instincts and my animal spirit to help guide the way. Meanwhile, I had finally gotten around to helping the team teach Zayto how to ride his T-Rex Champion Cycle, and boy did he fly like a pro on his first attempt. I figured that his riding on dinosaurs did give him an advantage from riding on a moving object, whether organic or inorganic.
I soon parked by the log near a central part of the city and got my music on, starting to practice my kenpo to the tune of the Gekiranger theme, doing some flips and turns to combine with my attacks as the music grew more intense. I never even noticed that I had an audience until I finished my sets and looked around to see everyone applauding me.
I turned a bright red out of embarrassment and pride as I waved shyly to everyone. "Uh... thanks."
Once everyone had sung their praises, the crowd started mingling while Javi walked up to me with a white box in his arms. "You really get into your training, don't you?"
I turned more red at that. "Force of habit." Not a lie; I had a nasty habit of training to my heart's content and tuning the world out until I was done.
He nodded and opened the box to reveal his new keytar. "Anyway, I was kinda wondering if you wanted to play some music with me? I wanna see how my keytar will play."
I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I'd like that." I had only brought my own flute for a bit of balancing out after practice, so this was a great opportunity.
As he sat down and powered his keytar on, I pulled out my wooden flute and nodded to him as I snapped my fingers for a four-beat start. "Five, six, seven, eight."
He started playing some notes on the keyboard and after a few beats, I joined in with my flute melody, the two of us playing in sync and creating a new crowd that I didn't mind too much now. Training crowds and music loving crowds were two different things in my book. If people wanted to listen to some music that a couple of kids were playing, that was totally fine. Everyone had their own taste in music, and lots of people liked it, even Jane surprisingly as I saw her give us the thumbs up.
When we were finished, everyone cheered for us and I smiled at Javi, seeing him return my smile.
"Guys, that was great!" Jane commended us.
I shrugged a bit. "I've been teaching Javi some techniques of the keytar in my spare time."
He nodded. "Yeah, still trying to figure it out."
"I wish I could do that." Jane was interested.
"Well, pretty much anyone can make music." I nodded to J-Borg. "Even androids."
"Oh, that's true. I have been programmed with a variety of vocal styles." J-Borg sang a bit at the last part while changing her voice.
Jane seemed shocked. " I didn't see that in your manual. But let's give it a try!" She smiled at Javi eagerly.
"Sure. What could go wrong?" Javi smiled a bit.
I stopped him from playing as I saw a familiar car pull up by the street from behind us. "You want the short answer or the long one?"
Javi looked over and started to pale. "Uh-oh!"
I quickly thought of a plan. "Javi, swap instruments! Trust me!" I traded my flute for his keytar, him following my lead in perfect unison as we quickly sat back down and readjusted ourselves, me nodding to Jane to keep rolling.
Jane nodded, seeing what I was planning, and kept the camera on me, Javi, and J-Borg.
I refocused and thought over my lessons on the keyboard before starting to play a tune that had a more rock theme to it. (A/N: Think of human Rarity's solo from the Rainbow Rocks short "Player Piano".)
Javi joined in with the flute shortly after and we rocked the audience with our quick thinking and our skill while Jane did a rap to our solo, having had passed the camera to J-Borg for her to record us.
Once we finished, we heard the oh-so familiar authoritative voice: "That's more than enough." We looked up at the warden.
I got up quickly. "Hi." I was about to make an excuse, but Warden Garcia stopped me: "You're disturbing the birds in this park. It's nesting season."
We looked up and saw that he was right, as per usual. A nest was right above us all.
"Uh... oops." I mumbled slightly as I sat down.
"And don't think I didn't see your switcharoo, Rowan." Warden Garcia's next words got my head to snap back to attention so fast, I swear I almost got whiplash from that.
He looked at Javi. "How did you afford that keytar?"
Javi shrugged slightly. "Well, they do kinda pay me at BuzzBlast."
"Yeah, well," he started, "I'm gonna do you a favor and get you your money back." He went to grab the keytar from me.
"Hold it!" I scrambled to my feet again and stepped back quickly, my friendly persona gone and my more commanding one in place. "Javi bought this with his own money! What's the problem with trying out a new instrument?"
"The problem is that this month alone, he's started learning the harmonica, the violin, and the whistle. But he didn't stick with any of those." He retorted to me.
"So what if he doesn't stick with any of those?! Look at me, I mastered a few instruments myself within a few weeks and no one batted an eyelash at me!" I snapped back, gripping the keytar tightly. "If Javi likes trying new instruments, you shouldn't be angry at him for it! In fact, a real parent would support their kid no matter what they choose! My dad always supports me and he's had to raise me since I was an infant! If you can't see past your estupido mindset of 'pick one and be done', then why do you even bother trying to be there to know what's good for Javi?" I grabbed the box for the keytar and stormed off, leaving a very disturbed Warden behind.
Javi joined me moments later and sighed. "Maybe Dad's right. Maybe... maybe I should stick with just one instrument."
I whirled around and faced him. "No. Javier Garcia, you have as much of a right to enjoy music as the next person. If you wanna keep learning an instrument and then maybe move on to the next one, I say do it! Don't do what your dad forces you to! Be the tough rhino I know you are inside and stand up for yourself!"
Javi blinked slightly before nodding. "No offense, Ro, but when you become serious, you become serious... and that scares me."
I snorted slightly. "It's what helped me whip your sister into the right mindset, trust me." I sighed as I grabbed my bike and started pushing it back to Dinohenge, the keytar resting on the seat of the bike.
(Javi's POV)
Back at the base, I watched Rowan storm off to her secluded spot before looking at the others, noticing their confusion about her anger. "Long story. Anyway, what's the news down here?"
"My Zord Finder is complete and it just detected your Stego Spike Zord." Solon reported.
I smiled brightly. "That's awesome. So where is it?"
Ollie held up his hand. "Uh, that's the bad part. We did detect the signal..."
"Yeah, but only for a moment and then the signal just dropped like out of nowhere." Amelia finished for him.
"And we don't even know what activated your Zord." Solon agreed.
I blinked slightly. "Huh, that's weird. Why would it suddenly disappear?"
Zayto shrugged as he came around. "If it happens again, we'll find it."
I nodded. "Better let me know then, okay? I need to get Rowan outta here. She, uh... kinda got miffed earlier."
Amelia frowned. "That doesn't seem like Rowan to just get mad at someone for no reason. What happened up there?"
I shrugged. "Like I said, it's a long story. Jane could probably tell you better, but... it was about me learning a new instrument again." I rubbed the back of my head sheepishly.
Izzy frowned slightly. "Oh boy. Did Dad chew you out?"
I looked at her. "No, just the opposite. Rowan chewed him out."
That got a startled reaction from the others, save for Izzy. She and I both knew that when Rowan got ticked off against our dad, it was with good reason and he did have a narrow mindset, so neither of us were really surprised anymore.
"Rowan got defensive over you playing an instrument? That's a new one on me." Zayto seemed confused.
I looked to him. "Wasn't the first time she did it either. She's butted heads with him more than a dozen times over mine and Izzy's choices, but in the long run, they work everything out." If Rowan had gotten a situation under control before, why couldn't she do it again?
Izzy nodded. "I'll tag along to help keep her company. She may need another girl to help her out."
I nodded and went to Rowan as she finished getting her hair tied up, leading her over to Izzy and smiling at the others. "We'll be back in a little bit."
Amelia nodded. "Good luck."
I nodded and teleported Izzy, Ro, and myself up to the surface.
(Izzy's POV)
In town, the three of us got some lunch and sat together as I noticed Rowan was less interested in her food than she was in squeezing the apple in her hand almost hard enough to make it break from her strength alone.
"Ro, come on. What did Dad tell you this time that's got you so PO'd?" I looked at her silently. "Seriously, if it's his viewpoints again, I know your dad will help with it."
Rowan sighed and started to explain it, but she never got the chance as Boomtower teleported in with Mucus and started a panic.
The three of us got up quickly with me groaning, "Oh man, this guy again?"
Rowan seemed happy, however. "Good. Misplaced aggression, here I come." She got in her classic battle stance.
Javi stopped us quickly, specifically Rowan as he looked at her. "How about we give this guy a warm up for you so you don't pull a muscle?"
She shrugged. "Fine by me. It's Morphin' Time!" She lead the charge for our trio morph. "Dino Fury Key, Activate! Link to Morphin' Grid!"
Once we got our suits on and did a shorter roll call, we posed together. "Dino Fury Power!"
"Go get them!" Mucus' shout to the Hengemen was all we need to get our own butts in gear and start fighting them.
As I knocked some Hengemen away, I contacted the team. "Boomtower's throwing a punch party in the city!"
"Thanks for the invite. I'll bring some friends." Zayto quipped.
I nodded. "Cool. We'll keep the party going." I hung up and joined the other two in equipping some boosters, me using the Sprint Key. "Sprint Streak!" I ran at Boomtower to slash him and landed two good shots on him before Javi stepped in and blocked a slash as Rowan followed up with a super punch before I sprinted in and delivered a couple more slashes, knocking Boomtower back.
The three of us moved in to strike him, but he blocked and countered our next attacks with more power than before as he tried to slash us.
"Incoming!" Zayto dropped down from a building. "Hyper Strike!" He slashed Boomtower down the middle and then across as he dodged a slash, allowing Amelia and Ollie to attack with the Gravi-Ball and Elasto-Lash respectively.
But Boomtower didn't even seem affected. "You think you brats can stop me?"
"Obviously." Zayto let out another quip.
I shook my head. "I'd save that quip, Zayto. He looks like he barely got a dent from our attacks."
I was on the money as Boomtower showed us his new ability. "Today Boomtower's got some doom power!"
Zayto looked. "That's not good."
"Have a taste of my Boom Blast!" Boomtower got ready to fire.
"Scatter!" I screamed loudly and the six of us quickly scrambled out of the way as Boomtower's shot exploded around us, sending Zayto, Ollie, and Amelia flying back and injured as they demorphed.
Javi got up and blocked the next attack with his shield. "It's you girls and me now! Wait for my signal!"
I nodded and stood with Rowan as we waited and when Javi shouted "Now", we ran into action, Rowan on the right and me on the left.
But Boomtower saw that coming and slashed both of us out of the air. Rowan had taken most of the slash from her Muscle Boost, but I still got a good cut in from it as we tumbled down some stairs and demorphed, Rowan wincing in pain.
"Ro!" I ran to her and checked her injured leg. "Good thing that booster protected you."
She nodded. "But that was still a nasty move. How you doing?"
I motioned to my arm. "Just a cut. Nothing major."
I looked to Zayto as he and the others came down before Boomtower reappeared with Mucus as I glared at them next. "How the heck are you so juiced up?"
"Wouldn't you like to know? Too bad you're-" Boomtower started gloating again before we saw Void Knight teleport in with more Hengemen.
"BOOMTOWER! How dare you steal one of my precious Sporix!" Void Knight shouted angrily.
"So that's how. Well, one question answered." Rowan quipped before hissing in pain as she gripped her leg.
I helped her stand up, subtly using my tiger spirit to help her correct the imbalance of her dragon spirit.
But Void Knight seemed to notice what I was doing as he aimed his sword at me. "You! You have a tiger spirit!"
I looked over sharply, wondering how he knew that.
The others seemed just as tense as I was, Rowan especially.
Void stepped down and walked around me before rejoining his allies. "I see. You must have just awakened it. No matter! I'll test it soon enough. Then we'll see who the better alpha tiger really is. Hengemen, destroy them!" He teleported away with Mucus and Boomtower.
I frowned as I helped Javi get Rowan to safety, knowing that this must be why Rowan wanted me to be careful of Void Knight despite her reason never being explicitly explained.
(Rowan's POV)
As we reached some steps, I saw Warden Garcia come over to us. "Javier, Isabella! What happened?"
"A monster attacked us. We were trapped, but the Black Power Ranger saved us just in time." Javi explained, covering for the fact that he, Izzy, and I had been fighting Boomtower well. "I tried to protect her, but she got hurt."
The warden wasn't convinced. "Then why are the girls hurt and you're just fine?"
I spoke up for Javi this time. "We protected him, sir. We were trying to help."
The warden sighed and helped Izzy up. "Come on." He glared at Javi. "You didn't try hard enough."
I don't know what made me boil over at that point, but I slammed my fist into the ground with enough force to make a mini earthquake out of all the anger I was feeling. "NO!" My voice surprised everyone, even the rest of the team as they came up behind us.
Javi was right with me as he looked at his dad. "You are berating me too much today! I am done with it! Rowan's right! THAT'S NOT WHAT A GOOD DAD WOULD DO!" His voice echoed as a black rhino suddenly appeared by Javi's side, letting out a loud bellow as we all looked in amazement, Javi included.
Warden Garcia was the first to smile as he went over and examined the spirit. "That's amazing."
Javi soon smiled as well. "I finally let my rhino spirit loose."
The warden looked at Javi and sighed. "I guess Rowan was right earlier. Maybe I have been too harsh on you lately." He looked at Izzy to include her. "Both of you." He looked back at Javi. "I guess my expectations for a perfect life for you and your sister are getting to be too much on your minds. I'm an old timer and I know I need to get used to your guys' way of thinking. I'm sorry for the trouble I've been giving you both. Forgive me?"
Javi smiled at him and nodded. "Of course, Dad."
"We both forgive you." Izzy agreed as the siblings hugged their father.
I smiled as I watched them, knowing my teachings had helped both father and son today, but I was still bugged by something else. Why was my dragon spirit being so angry lately?
Once the rest of us teleported to the base, I stayed outside to meditate by the dragon statue and regain my inner peace. As I listened to the calmer sounds around me, I started focusing on why my animal spirit was getting so easily angered and in turn making me angrier than before. What was happening lately? Was it the sense that Dai Shi could possibly be back and my spirit was working as a sort of catalyst for it?
I remembered the story of Dai Shi from what the Jungle Fury team had told me when I first walked into the forbidden room on accident and saw the mural of the past Masters; 10,000 years ago, the Great Beast Wars was when Dai Shi was sealed the first time, but he had been released in their time as Rangers by Jarrod. Jarrod was supposed to be one of the chosen four guardians, but his anger caused him to be expelled and Master Casey, a young cub by his rank in Pai Zhuq at the time, was chosen to take his place. Out of anger, Jarrod attacked Master Mao and by extent unleashed Dai Shi, who in turn possessed Jarrod to make his plan of bringing the Great Beast Wars back again so he could rule the world. But Masters Casey, Kenya, Lily, and Theo fought Dai Shi as the Power Rangers Jungle Fury, soon being joined by Master RJ and his old friend Dominic on the battlefield. With the help of Jarrod and Camille, one of Dai Shi's former generals, the four guardians were able to defeat Dai Shi. But something told me that the defeat wasn't gonna last forever.
Suddenly, my communicator went off and I quickly answered it. "Go ahead."
"Boomtower's gone giant in the city, Rowan! I have the location for Javi's Zord though and I'm sending the others to retrieve it!" Solon reported to me.
I nodded. "Gotcha. I'll hold Boomtower back."
"Rowan, be careful. With how powerful Boomtower is now, he's bound to pulverize you before we can make it." Zayto warned me.
I bit my lip and thought over an idea. "Then I'm gonna have to show old Boomtower how powerful a dragon really is." I hung up without another word and teleported to the city, landing on a building and seeing the massive Boomtower appear. "Great. Now his ego ain't the only big thing about him." I backed up and readied my morpher. "Link to Morphin' Grid!" With the instant morph, I was ready for action, summoning the Dragon Shogun Zord and activating its battle mode. "Linked! Dragon Shogun Zord: Battle Mode ready!"
"Ready to go boom?" Boomtower quipped to me.
I drew my saber again. "The only thing going ka-blammo around here is you!" I started slashing Boomtower, landing some good hits, but not doing any damage.
He laughed a bit. "That just tickled! My turn!" He fired some shots from his chest cannon, forcing me to try and dodge but ultimately knocking me to one knee as my cockpit sparked while he seemed triumphant. "Yes! Kneel before me!"
"Whoa!" I grunted and held on to my console. "Hope everyone's having better luck than I am!"
"Ha! Those Rangers are gonna need it when I destroy you!" Boomtower gloated before blasting me back a good ways.
I screamed and stumbled as my Megazord flew back, landing on the ground hard.
"Ready for Round 2?" Boomtower held up his familiar Boom Blast balls.
"Oh mierda!" I was in major trouble at this point! It was gonna have to take a freaking miracle to stop the attack.
Luckily that miracle arrived right on time as spikes struck Boomtower, preventing him from using the Boom Blast.
"Alright!" I smiled before comming the team. "I'm guessing it was a success?"
"Yep! Stego Spike Zord is in action! And on a spiky scale, I'd give him a perfect 10!" Javi reported proudly.
"Great work, Javi! I knew your music was gonna be a big help!" Suddenly, inspiration struck me. "Hey, that gives me an idea! Try combining the Stego Spike Zord with the Dragon Shogun Zord!"
"Oh yeah!" Javi hung up as I got up and stood by the Stego Spike Zord, letting the Zords unite and the Black Ranger Key take the place of my own before the others joined me in the cockpit.
"Welcome aboard, amigos." I smiled at the others.
Javi nodded. "Couldn't leave our homegirl hanging!"
The others locked their sabers in as I joined the untied shout. "Linked! Dragon Shogun Zord: Spike Formation!"
We raised our fists as Javi spoke once again: "Let's see what our pointy boy can do!"
"So, you really want a Round 3, huh? Fine! Let's rumble!" Boomtower swung his sword.
"Oh, it's on, hombre!" I was fired up now that the extra boost was here!
We delivered punch after punch to Boomtower, blocking his sword easily and catching him in a suplex throw attack.
"Score one for the Rangers!" I smiled brightly.
But Boomtower wasn't down yet! "It's my job to destroy the Rangers and business is booming!" He got his Boom Blast ready again.
"Not this time!" Zayto shouted readily.
"Stego Spikes!" Javi's command allowed the Megazord to fire spikes at Boomtower to stop the attack once again.
"Now, Rowan!" Zayto looked to me.
"Right! Mega Fury Saber!" I called on the big sword and grabbed it, spinning it expertly as we shouted in unison: "Dragon Shogun Megazord: Stego Mega Punches!" The others delivered a barrage of energy punches to Boomtower before I delivered the final slash, which made him go ka-boom as I predicted. "Dino Fury Victory!"
As soon as we got down, we ran to attack Boomtower, but he escaped with Mucus' help.
"Yeah! You'd better run!" Amelia shouted triumphantly.
I just smiled at our latest victory.
Javi groaned a bit. "I gotta check on Izzy!"
Amelia nodded. "We'll meet you back at BuzzBlast."
"Okay." Javi teleported away as we did the same.
(Javi's POV)
After I picked up Izzy from the hospital, we joined the others at BuzzBlast where I saw Rowan was standing there with Dad and holding the keytar... oddly enough.
Dad smiled as he came up to me. "Javier, you were born to be a musician as much as Isabella was born to be a track and field star. And I'd like to honor that for you." He passed the keytar over. "Let me know what you wanna try after the keytar and I'll see if Rowan can help me learn a few tricks."
I smiled brightly. "Y... you're serious?"
He laughed excitedly. "You know it. Now let's hear how good you're getting with that, kiddo!"
I grinned and nodded, sitting down and seeing Rowan pulling her flute out, but something stopped me from starting just yet.
I saw Izzy's look of curiosity as she asked, "Javi, what's up?"
I smiled a bit. "Well, I can't just take the credit for teaching a lesson today. I also had to learn to stand up for what I wanted to do, and that helped me become the proud musician I should be. So... I guess we should thank our master for teaching us." I gave Rowan a smile, watching her look away with that cute blush on her face once again. She may have been full of pride, but she had her adorable moments.
I looked at the team and got up, starting to play some music as they joined in with some dancing, Dad included. Soon Rowan started playing her flute to my tune and the spectators started dancing, Jane and J-Borg joining in before the latter started spinning too fast and drilled into the ground.
"Whoa, jeez! That's gonna burn tomorrow!" Rowan waved her hand in front of her face.
I looked down with the others as Jane called to J-Borg: "J-Borg! Are you okay?"
"I think I hit a water main!" J-Borg shouted back.
"A water main? I really do need that teen dictionary." Zayto sounded confused.
But Dad knew what J-Borg meant. "That's not teen lingo, kid. Out of the way!" He pulled us back just as water shot up from the hole and soaked us all, giving us something new to laugh about.
Oh man, this was a little hard of an episode to sit through, which is why I felt that both Javi and his dad should have a lesson to learn in the process. Not to mention, we get some confirmation about my version of Void Knight and a flashback to Jungle Fury's history! Also, given that we have a confirmed 22 episodes for Dino Fury Season 1, I'm curious to know: do y'all want the love triangle episode in the first half of the season, smack dab in the middle, or in the second half? Let me know what you think, and as always, read and review!
