Chapter 20

The Glowing Skull Palace wasn't called the Glowing Skull Palace for nothing. Part of the main structure and attraction was a giant angry, looking skull with fangs that gave a blood-red glow. The rest of the palace had several high towers and castle-like buildings with demonic gothic structure designs. There were scary gargoyle statues, skeleton statues, and monster statues with glowing eyes holding electric lanterns. The whole gave a haunting and eerie feeling.

Once Loona and the others parked in the palace's garage, they made their way to the front gates, where several armed Hellhound and Imp guards were waiting with the hotel's staff. Their uniforms were red and black design with white skull patterns. The manager was there too, standing elegantly with staff members holding treys of beverages. Draven was there, too, with the hotel manager.

"Oh, looks like they're rolling out the red carpet," Blitzo smiled.

"My dark lord Cody. As manager of the Glowing Skull Palace, we welcome you and your friends to our hospitality," the manager said with a smile before bowing his head.

Cody and his friends returned the bow.

"Thank you, sir. It's an honor," Cody said.

"Doyle and the hotel staff will cater to your every whim here, and I will make sure you are not disturbed. Also, the bounties of the Overlords have been successfully transferred to your account. You've earned it, my dark lord," Drave said.

"Oh, thank you, Draven."

"My master Duke Dantalion has also appointed his best lawyers to be your lawyers. Tomorrow afternoon around 3 pm, they'll be here with some accountants to discuss the security of your money."

"I understand. Will they meet us in our rooms, or must we go somewhere else?"

"Your suite room will do just fine. Enjoy your stay," Draven said before vanishing into a dark and red portal.

"Right this way, my dark lord," the manager said.

Cody and some of his friends enjoyed the beverages before entering inside. The interior of the hotel was massive, with a gothic ceiling design. These hanging electric lights looked like pissed-off pumpkin heads, spooky statues with glowing eyes, demonic knights in scary jousting armor, etc. It was like a Halloween castle dialed to eleven but in an excellent way.

Everyone followed them to the elevator, taking them to the upper floors of the hotel suites. The floors and walls were polished pale marble with blood-red rugs and electric lights that looked like lanterns in various colors. At each corner were shiny stone skeleton statues looking eerie and scary. Their suite room was massive with a gothic and neat design. It had everything, a large kitchen, an expansive open living room and a dining room, a vast UHD TV on the wall, a large balcony, and multiple bedrooms, including an upstairs bedroom with sky windows. Everyone was in awe of its astonishing and creative beauty.

"Whoa," Vortex breathed.

"Oh crumbs," Moxxie's eyes glistened.

"This place is gigantic!" Millie added.

"There are clean bed sheets in each bedroom. Each bathroom has soap, shampoo, body wash, and clean towels. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call us, and if you turn your attention here to this panel," the manager pointed by the door, "This will provide our room service accessories. By the kitchen island is our hotel's menu. We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert at any time. There's also a map of the hotel of where to find everything, including the pool, hot tubes, sauna, spa, and gym. I'll let you all get settled in. Good night and welcome to the Glowing Skull Palace."

Cody respectively bowed his head, "Thank you, sir."

"No, thank you, my dark lord. You honor me and my hotel with your presence."

As he left, Kimi spoke, "It must be pretty good to be you right now."

Cody blushed and scratched the back of his head.

"Hold on, Cody, what did Draven mean by bounty money?" Loona asked.

"Huh? Oh. A while back, Lucifer and Lilith put up bounties on the Overlords, hoping that someone would kill them, but no one had the guts or the power to do so. Now that I've killed three, the bounty money has been directed into my bank account," Cody explained.

"How much?" Crymini asked.

"Let's see. Valentino was 75, Sonato was 45, and Zagan was 30. So that's . . . 150."

"Thousand?!" Kimi asked.

"No, million. I have 150 million dollars in my account right now," Cody answered, showing the numbers in his bank account on his smartphone.

Everyone's eyes were wide open, and their jaws dropped.

Blitzo gasped and fell on Moxxie while holding his arm like he was having a stroke, "A 150 million! A 150 million! A 150 million dollars! Moxxie! Oh, my Satan!"

"Sir! Calm down!" Moxxie ordered while trying to keep him from falling.

"Get a hold of yourself!" Millie added while helping Blitzo stand up straight.

Vortex turned to Loona, "That's a big number. A lot of zeros!"

"Yeah, you can do a lot with money like that," Shadow added.

Loona shook her head while smiling before softly chuckling to herself as she leaned on the kitchen island counter. Not only did she get her boy back, and he's an all-powerful dark angel, but they're also both getting knighted; Cody's got powerful allies, and they're now filthy, stinking rich! Loona raised her head and turned to Cody as he was exploring their suite.

"Hey, Cody!" Loona called.

Cody turned around.

"Don't think that because you're rich doesn't mean you don't have to work or go to college. Those things are still happening. There's no way in Hell I'm letting you turn into some fat, lazy, good-for-nothing slug. When you're done with high school, you're going to college, a good one, you're getting smart, then you're getting a degree and a good career."

"Absolutely! And when you go to college, you'll finish what you start. You're not going to be a dummy and drop out like me," Blitzo agreed proudly.

"Hear-hear!" Moxxie added.

"Oh, for sure. Just because I got money doesn't mean it's not going away. I'm still going to college and getting a career. I don't really know what I want to do specifically, but I know I want it to be around music. I know you probably don't want me to be in a band forever, but maybe I could work in a music studio or own one, be a music composer or music writer, or something," Cody explained.

Everyone sat down on couches in the living room.

"That's good. That'll work, and as always, we'll help and support you no matter what, but college is still a long way down the road for you. So, I wouldn't worry about all that just yet. You've got your whole life ahead, so don't stress about it," Vortex assured.

"Thank you. I'm not going to spend it all at once. I'll be smart with my money but will put some of it to good use. However, it's not gonna sit in my bank collecting dust."

"What are you gonna spend on it?" Millie asked.

"Well, for starters, Loona, Blitzo, after our knight ceremony, we're moving out. I'm going to buy us a house," Cody answered.

Everyone's eyebrows were raised. Blitzo gasped with stars in his eyes, "Really?!"

"A house?" Loona questioned.

"Yes, a good house. A big house. Not a mansion, but we're not living in a shoebox with a roof. I want us to have space and someplace that's nice. That apartment has problems, and it will not be safe for us to live there now that Imp City is a warzone. That is why I'm going to buy a place for Millie and Moxxie as well," Cody explained.

Everyone was surprised again. Millie gasped in delight with stars in her eyes as well.

"Really? You'd do that for us?" Moxxie asked with a smile.

"Of course. I wouldn't leave you guys hanging," Cody answered.

Millie leaped across from her couch to Cody, wrapping her arms and legs around him. Cody almost lost his balance as he caught her.

"Cody! Thank you! Oh, I love you!" Millie hollered as she smothered his face with kisses while squeezing him into a hug.

"Love you too, Millie," Cody said, hugging her back.

"Easy on him," Loona said.

"What about you guys? You need a new place?" Cody asked.

"Nah, we live in a bus that we turned into an RV with our own hands. We love it," Kimi said, smiling at her boyfriend.

Shadow smiled back before kissing her.

"We will need you to summon a portal for us to grab it, however. Not now, but maybe after dinner," Shadow said.

"Cool. Tex? Crymini?" Cody asked.

"I'll talk to my girlfriend. We live just out of town in a condo. The news said they were evacuating the city but didn't say about the outskirts," Vortex answered.

"I live in Charlie's hotel in Pentagram City and work there as part of her security. So, I'm good, but thank you for offering," Crymini said.

"You're welcome. Oh, that reminds me," Cody pulled out his phone as Millie released him and got down.

He called Verosika Mayday, "Verosika? It's me. We're at our hotel suite. Tell me where you are, and I'll summon a portal."

After a few seconds, Cody closed his eyes while focusing with two fingers on the side of his temple.

"Okay, I see you and the girls. Look to your . . . left . . . now."

Cody moved his free hand away from his head and pointed to a wall. There, a portal appeared with Verosika, Kiki, Apple, and Coco standing in the street. They all turned to see Cody through the portal.

"Cody!" Verosika exclaimed.

They rushed into the portal before it closed. Verosika lifted Cody into a hug, and the others joined in the group hug.

"Are you okay? Tell me you're okay," Verosika said.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Really, I am," Cody replied, hugging them back.

Verosika and her friends eased up, but Verosika was still holding Cody.

"We saw the fight on our phones. You scared us half to death!" Apple cried while gently holding Cody's face.

"Oh, Apple, come on. Cody had it handled. He was kicking their asses, but I wasn't worried. Hell, he killed Valentino, and that was before his training. Now that he's trained, it's no wonder he killed Sonato, Zagan, and his whole bat legion. Honestly, if I were the VVV, this handsome little devil would have me in a cold sweat," Kiki smiled while gliding her fingers through Cody's hair.

Cody blushed, "Thank you."

"Still, though, we were scared for you. Those Overlords were known for not killing their enemies quickly and painlessly. They love making poor SOBs scream," Coco said.

"Well, they're gone, and Cody's okay. That's what matters," Verosika said, nuzzling her face in Cody's.

"Oh, look at you caring about someone besides your shitty whore ass self," Blitzo mocked.

Verosika and her friends shot a glare at him.

"Blitzo," Verosika growled, "It's too bad your garbage dick, dumbass, didn't axe off. "

Blitzo growled and got off the couch.

"Whoa! Whoa! No! No, no, no," Cody intervened, waving his hands.

Millie, Moxxie, and Vortex stopped Blitzo, while Cody stopped Verosika and her girls.

"No fighting! Listen to me. We're all on the same side. I know you two have bad history, but that's all in the past. We can't fight each other. Remember who the real enemy is," Cody started.

Verosika turned to him, "You're seriously defending him, Cody? If you knew half the shit, he pulled—"

"I know what Blitzo is. He's not perfect, and neither are you. None of us are. I'm not perfect, either. I got blood on my hands, and I'm not even old enough to shave."

Blitzo, Verosika, and her friends' angry looks vanished when he said that. Cody was a killer now.

"Yeah, it was self-defense and to protect my friends, but killing is still killing, and I'm sure none of you ever wanted me to be in a position to kill someone, right?" Cody asked.

They gave bummed-out looks while turning away and said almost in unison, "No."

"Now, you guys don't have to like each other. You don't have to be friends, but you have to stop fighting each other. No more fighting, no more insults, and no more pointing out whatever crap you or the person pulled back in the day. I don't want any of that. I want you guys to put aside your differences and open up a can of 'DIE!' on those Overlords because, as we speak, they're trying to kill us. They are plotting and planning on how to take us down. The only way we will survive this is by working together."

Vortex stated firmly while siding with the boy. When he spoke, he let his gangster tone flow, "Cody's right—enough of this goddamn bullshit. You don't have to like each other, but we're in this together. That means we have to work together on this as a team. Y'all are grown-ass adults, so act like it. Hell, Cody here is being mature and grown up about this to make y'all stop fighting. So, come on, enough with this bullshit. We don't care about the goddamn past! We need to focus on the now and tomorrow. We're neck deep in shit creek without a paddle, people. This is real. This is happening. So enough is fucking enough!"

Both Verosika and Blitzo looked away while crossing their arms. Everyone gave them stern looks and waited patiently for them to say something.

Blitzo let out a heavy sigh, "Okay, fine. I'll reframe from causing or saying anything, but only for you."

"I'll behave if they behave. If they attack my friends or me, you can't be mad at us for defending ourselves. We won't start anything if they hold up their end," Verosika said, crossing her arms.

"Fair enough," Cody shrugged.

Then Verosika's phone vibrated. She got a text.

"Whose that?" Kiki asked.

"It's Milky," Verosika answered while scrolling, "She says that they got to Cody's basement and found stuff. The good news is that the fire didn't damage anything down there. The bad news is that all the water from the firefighters and rain got in there, and not all of it went into the floor drains. There are some pools of it here and there. So, some stuff got water damaged, and water in dark places creates mold, but they found stuff on the wall, a locker full of weapons and items, and they got into the safe."

Cody's eyes widened, "Really? How'd they get in? Did they crack it open?"

"No, the combination was easy to guess. It's your birthday, October 23rd. 1023."

"Oh, that makes sense."

"Wait, how do you know Cody's birthday?" Loona asked, squinting her eyes into a glare.

Verosika tapped a few buttons and then showed her screen, "Cody's Wikipedia page and his Facebook page, duh. The kid's a rockstar."

Loona's glare vanished, "Oh . . . right."

She rubbed the back of her head, feeling embarrassed.

"Huh . . . okay, they ran into some trouble, but they're still alive," Verosika continued to read.

Apple, Coco, and Kiki looked at their leader with pensive expressions. The others looked concerned too. Cody walked over and touched the side of Verosika's phone while closing his eyes and concentrating. Everyone silently watched him.

"Okay, I see them," Cody said before summoning a portal by the wall.

The portal revealed Milky and the boys Ace, Josh, and Kat. Sitting on the beds, they were in what looked like a motel room. They looked up and saw the portal, surprised.

"What the?" Ace spoke.

"Come on, get in here," Apple waved.

They scrambled to get duffle bags and suitcases through the portal. Once everything was in, the portal closed. Verosika and her crew hugged each other. However, Ace, Josh, and Kat had fresh bruises, severe cuts, stab wounds, and a black eye with a bloody lip. The girls gasped when they saw them.

"Oh, my Satan!" Coco exclaimed.

"What happened to you?!" Verosika cried.

"We ran into some trouble, and they weren't screwing around. They mean business," Ace said, sitting down in a chair.

"Yep, they were trained and armed. Hey Cody, what's up?" Kat greeted.

Cody grabbed some paper towels and handed them to him to stop the bleeding on the side of his head. Then he pulled out his Infinity Cube and typed in the medical category on the hologram display screen. He scrolled through the items and pulled out three big round glass bottles with a glowing green gel and leaves floating inside.

"Here, rub this on the wounds, and it'll heal them in less than an hour," Cody said, handing it to Milky.

"You have healing potions?! How did you get a hold of these?" Milky asked.

She uncorked the bottle and began rubbing the glowing green gel on Ace's wound. Cody gave one to Apple, and she treated Josh. The third bottle he gave to Coco, and she treated Kat.

As they were treating them, Cody answered, "I made them."

Everyone turned to him, shocked.

"You made these?" Verosika questioned.

"During my training, Lamia taught Octavia and me about dark magic and potions. You'd be amazed at how many and what they can do. Do any of you guys have broken ribs or internal bleeding?" Cody asked the wounded demons.

"I got a few I think are cracked," Ace answered.

"I got stabbed. Which, by the way, not fun," Josh added.

"Okay," Cody returned to his display screen and scrolled through the potions.

As he searched, he called out, "Moxxie! Can you get me three shot glasses from that bar over?"

"Cody, I don't think liquor is a good idea for us right now," Kat said.

"Yeah, especially with me around since I'm trying to stay sober," Verosika stated firmly.

"Not for alcohol, for this," Cody pulled out another glass bottle.

It was a tall fancy glass bottle with a silver ring around the neck. Inside was glowing blue liquid.

"Drinkable healing potion. The gel is for exterior wounds like cuts, bruises, and burns. This is for internal wounds like broken bones, organ damage, infections, all that stuff," Cody explained.

"Ooooohhhh," everyone said in unison.

Moxxie grabbed three shot glasses and placed them on the counter for Cody to pour.

"They taught you how to make potions?" Loona asked over Cody's shoulder.

"Yep, I wasn't just mastering my powers. They taught me potions, magic, how to fight, and how to speak modern and ancient Satanic, which will be useful. Certain books of Hell aren't written in English. Some of them may have answers about the Overlords and maybe even the angels," Cody explained as he carefully poured.

"You've been a busy boy lately," Kiki said, crossing her arms with a smile.

"Yep," Cody finished pouring and placed the drinkable potion back in the Cube. He approached the three with the shot glasses, "For those who haven't taken Drinkable Healing potion before, fair warning, it has a real grassy minty flavor. Real veggie taste to it."

"Well, can't be any worse than mezcal or coffee liqueur," Ace said before sipping his medicine.

The other two swallowed theirs as well, but what followed after was their faces cringing with disgusted moaning.

"You can really taste the veggie," Josh said.

"Taste like fresh cut grass with leftover plants that you feed to rabbits," Kat stated.

As Moxxie took their shot glasses, Cody explained, "Yeah, not good taste. The main ingredient is magical dew from these wild grasses that only grow in the high mountains in the Wraith Ring. They only grow at a certain time of year when the fields are bathed in the red moonlight. So, this stuff is hard to get, but it really works. You guys will have a full recovery in an hour or so."

"Thank you, Cody," Ace said.

"Yeah, thank you," Josh added.

"Ah, it's nothing," Cody replied, rubbing his head.

"No, seriously. Thank you, man," Kat said.

Cody smiled.

"Who did this to you guys?" Crymini asked.

"Was it the D.H.O.R.K.S.?" Moxxie questioned.

"No, it wasn't those amateurs. They called themselves I.S.N.A.," Milky answered.

Vortex raised an eyebrow, "I.S.N.A.?"

"The fuck is that?" Blitzo added.

"The Investigators of Super Natural Activity. Anything involving something supernatural, from aliens from outer space to demons of Hell, they're all over it," Kat explained.

"And why did they attack you? What do they want?" Apple questioned.

Ace pointed to Cody, "They want him."

This got everyone's attention.

Loona stood up, "What?"

"Me? Why?" Cody asked.

"They didn't say. They just said that they know you're alive. They know you live in Hell and wanted us to hand you over," Josh explained.

"Of course, we told them to fuck off, and that's when they attacked us," Ace said.

"We first told them you were dead, but they knew you were alive. They checked your school to confirm it," Milky asked.

Cody and his friends' eyes widened.

"They know where I go to school?!" Cody asked, bewildered.

"And that's not all they know. Whomever these guys are, they're not messing around. We had a hard time killing them, as you can see by our wounds," Kat explained.

"Shit! Cody can't go back to his school. They'll be waiting for him there," Loona said.

"He's going to have to go somewhere else. Maybe somewhere here in Hell?" Vortex suggested.

"We'll deal with that later. For now, what did you find down in the basement?" Verosika asked.

"A ton. We didn't have time to sort out what was important and what wasn't, so we grabbed everything and stuffed it all in the duffle bags and backpacks, except the weapons in the lockers. So, Cody, you should probably summon a portal to your house so we can grab what's left before those guys take it," Milky said.

"Okay, we can do that now. I'll use my Infinity Cube to shrink everything down and store it. Then we can look at what you found," Cody said.

"We'll get started," Moxxie said, opening a duffle bag, "Ugh, they smell musty."

"Yeah, two years of being in a dark wet place will do that," Millie added while searching through the papers.

Soon everyone was searching while Cody went with Milky and Loona through a portal to the basement. Much of it was miscellaneous with the parents' work, medical insurance, mortgage, bills, and other useless documents. Then they started to find files and papers on demons and other creatures – their sightings or ones in human disguises. Some composition notebooks had notes and writings about hunting and killing evil demons. There were notes and pictures about weaknesses and how to take them down.

Meanwhile, Cody, Loona, and Milky reached the weapons lockers. Cody cast a levitation spell so they wouldn't have to touch the dirty water. Cody got the lockers open, and they examined what was inside. It was a variety of guns and melee weapons, and some were enchanted weapons. Most of the guns were old from pre-World War I, like elephant guns, 45-70 lever action rifles, single-shot scoped rifles, and an odd-looking crossbow. There were also explosive potions and a few enchanted daggers. This confused Cody and Loona, but they took it all anyway. Cody pulled out his Infinite Cube and made the light scan the lockers before shrinking them down into the cube. They returned to the hotel to help everyone with the papers.

Milky pulled some photos, "Cody, these were up on a wall. We think your parents were hunting these guys. They're all demons and powerful ones too. The ones with the red 'X's are dead, so that rules out that your parents killed them, but it looks like this guy was their main target."

Cody and Loona looked at the photo.

"Who is this?" Loona asked.

Verosika looked at it, and her eyes widened, "Oh shit! That's Lord Drake."

"The Mob King?" Vortex asked.

"Yeah, the very same. Crime lord and murderer. He operates both here in Hell and up on the surface."

"I take it all these dead guys were his lieutenants?" Kiki asked, looking at the photos.

"Yeah, they were. I guess your folks had a bone to pick with that lowlife, huh Cody?" Kat asked.

"I guess so," Cody replied while looking at more papers.

"Cody, there was also this book here with this symbol. It has contacts with certain people and places. I think your parents were part of some secret organization. People like your parents, sinner coyotes, demon hunters," Milky showed him the book with a symbol of an eye surrounded by spikes.

Cody's eyes widened, "I've seen that symbol before! It's the symbol of the Grimms."

"The Grimms?" Loona asked.

"Yeah, they were an organization of peacekeepers between humans and demons. They were the first group of people to try and make peace with demons so that they would stop killing each other. Then something happened, and they were disbanded . . . or at least that's what the history books say."

"Perhaps your parents were Grimms," Moxxie suggested.

"At this point, I'd believe you because I don't know why that book would be in my parents' basement."

"Can you tell us more about this group you ran into?" Vortex asked.

Ace nodded, "Yeah, we circled in flight to stay out of sight as more came. Then either their leader or a high-ranking officer showed up. She was definitely the boss of them. There was something strange about her."

"Strange how?" Crymini questioned.

"She didn't have a cross necklace like what Cody has. She had a ring."

"A ring?"

"Yes, a holy ring. It burned looking at it even from the rooftops. It was gold with a red cross in the middle between two seals. One seal was of two knights on a horse and the other a temple with a cross on top," Ace explained.

Everyone glanced at each other confused but turned their attention when Cody softly gasped and clapped his hands like he was saying, 'Eureka!' He pulled out another history book from his cube and flipped through the pages until he found the page that had a picture of the ring Ace was describing.

Ace's eyes widened, "There! That's it! That's the ring."

"What is that?" Verosika questioned, looking at it.

"The ring of Jacques De Molay," Cody answered.

"Uh, who?" Blitzo asked tilting his head.

"Jacques De Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templars. Tell me you know who those guys were."

"You mean from the video game Assassin's Creed?"

"No, sir! He means the real Templars. They were among the wealthiest and most skilled knights during the Crusades," Moxxie explained.

"They were also servants to God, killing demons that crossed over to the surface and heathens that didn't share their beliefs. They lasted about two centuries until King Philip IV of France killed them. He was deeply in debt to them, so he pressured the Pope to issue an order to kill them instead of paying back what he owed. Molay was arrested and executed by being burned alive, tied to a stake post on a small island in the river in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral. According to this book, Molay cursed King Philip and the Pope, who were cast here into Hell for their deeds. It's rumored that Molay became an angel," Cody explained.

"That's a great history lesson, but what does any of that have to do with us and our situation?" Kimi asked.

Cody closed the book, "I don't know. This group is bad news, and they're after me. They must know I'm rolling with demons, so maybe they're after me for heresy or something."

"Well, screw that!" Loona said.

"Agreed!" Blitzo sided.

"Oh, and one more thing," Josh said, standing up and groaning in stiffness.

He walked up to Cody and handed him a large orange envelope.

Cody took it, looking confused, "What's this?"

"It was in the safe: your parents' passports, social security cards, and birth certificates. Yours are in there too. We didn't know if they were important, but we figured they belonged to you more than anyone else," Josh explained.

Cody opened and looked at the photos of his parents in the passports. Cody couldn't help but tear up while looking at their faces. Even after nearly three years since the fire, his heart still ached with sorrow. He missed them with all his heart and soul. The others saw this and felt his pain. Cody tried so hard not to cry as his eyes began to water. Loona put an arm around his shoulder and kissed his head. Verosika approached, stood next to Cody, and kissed his cheek before looking at the photos of his parents.

"Your mother . . . she's very beautiful, and your father is handsome," Verosika spoke.

Kiki looked over, too, "Yeah, no wonder you're so good-looking. You have your mother's eyes and your father's face."

Cody looked up at them and softly said, "Thank you . . . all of you."

Josh nodded, "No problem."

"Yeah, always happy to help," Ace added.

"Glad we did some good," Kat said.

"We also found this in the safe," Milky handed him another book.

The book looked similar to Stolas's Grimoire but with different symbols and looked much older with wear and tear. The color had faded, some of the fabric was peeling off, and the papers had gone from white to yellow. Inside were spells and how to make potions. Some of the pages were bookmarked.

"Interesting," Loona said.

"I wonder if Stolas can tell us more about this," Cody spoke.

"I'll call and ask him. Maybe Octavia knows something too," Blitzo said, pulling out his phone.
