Celeste sat close to Tommy, watching him rest. It was strange seeing him with his hair shaved off and parts where his head and face that were burned were now completely healed. She gazed at the metal attached to him while still processing everything that was happening and was currently happening.
Stolas gently placed a hand on her shoulder, "Are you alright, dear?"
Celeste nodded, "I'm as well as I can. It's just . . . it's a lot to process. Cody's a knight of Hell and has powers. He's fighting a war, my husband and I got attacked by a secret organization, so it's too dangerous to go back to the surface, and on top of all that, I'm pregnant. Which means I have a child to worry about."
"Hmm, yes. It is a lot to process, but I assure you it'll all pan out. Cody's quite capable, and this I.S.N.A. will be punished for their actions."
Celeste rubbed her eyes.
"Also, I can show you my palace whenever you are ready. It's quite lovely, really, despite it being empty sometimes, but Via and I can make it feel like home," Stolas promised.
Celeste nodded again, but as she stood up, she suddenly felt the need to cry. She buried her face in Stolas's chest fluff as she hugged him. Stolas was stunned at this as his four red eyes widened, but then he gently hugged her back in comfort.
"There, there. It'll be all right, sweet child. It'll be all right," Stolas said sincerely.
Celeste softly cried for a while until she was ready to leave. Loopty and Lipton assured her that Tommy would be kept safe and would text her the moment he woke up. Tim, Shadow, Vortex, Kimi, Stolas, and Fuko went with them through the portal, but Fuko had to leave.
"I gotta check on my daughter. Sometimes she gets into trouble," Fuko said.
"Okay, see you tomorrow," Vortex said as he disappeared.
Celeste got the grand tour of the palace and was shown her room. It was big, clean, and very luxurious. Celeste was amazed, but her surprised look quickly faded away, remembering her situation.
Kimi broke the silence and crossed her arms, "Have you eaten, honey?"
Celeste shook her head, "No, not in a long while."
"You should eat. Keep your strength up, and you've had a long day," Shadow said.
"I know she's early in her pregnancy, but should she worry about what to eat and to avoid? Because there are certain foods that pregnant women should not eat, right?" Tim asked.
"Yeah, you're right. There are foods she should avoid, like undercooked or raw meat or seafood and sushi, along with soft cheese, unpasteurized milk, soft-served ice cream, and obviously alcohol. That's a big no-no along with caffeine," Vortex explained.
"Caffeine?" Celeste asked.
"Oh yes. Caffeine increases your chances of a miscarriage, and we don't want that, do we?" Stolas added.
"No, we don't."
One Imp servant appeared, "Would our guest like cooked eggs or perhaps some smoked salmon? Those are acceptable options."
"Well, if it's no bother, some smoked salmon sounds lovely," Celeste humbly requested.
"No bother at all," Stolas replied, turning to the others, "I hope you all brought your appetites because we indeed have salmon. Quite a lot, really."
"Oh, Hell yeah! I could eat, and this little lady deserves a celebration meal," Vortex said.
Kimi threw her arm around Celeste's shoulder, "We'll throw you a proper baby shower, but for now, this will do."
Celeste smiled at that.
Meanwhile
Cody sliced and cut henchmen demons to bloody pieces with Death's Scythe. He was in one of the lower Angel power forms with only two of his black wings out instead of all six. He zipped around with lightning speed as the enemy tried to shoot him but failed before they met their fatal end.
Slade used his Blue Moon Sword to do the same. His Moon Dance of Death was unmatched. At this point, Slade had completely mastered it. In a split second, twenty demon henchmen were sliced to pieces. Heads, arms, legs, and even torsos were cut clean through with trails of blue light, and Slade stood nearby looking like a samurai without breaking a sweat. Even Loona was impressed.
Loona used her gauntlets to blast and set guys on fire. She used her kusarigama weapon to stab, strangle, and choke enemies. She got some wrapped around the chain and swung them around, slamming them into the ground, the wall, or into each other. Millie and Moxxie used teamwork. Millie cut up enemies with her axe while Moxxie shot them up with his guns. Blitzo did as well with his signature pistol and knife.
Mollie danced a bullet storm with guns with Dia. Bloody Mary used her blood magic to impale and crush guys from the inside. Summer pounced around like a demonic leopard with her magic claws. In their complete demon forms, Kyo, Kely, and Octavia destroyed their enemies with magic. They used energy blasts, lightning, and powers of darkness to engulf them and crush them.
Kim stuck close to Cody as she used her demonic kukri sword and big foldable knife. Her fighting moves were impressive and very similar to Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat, but without the noises, he made – she even did the move where she was in the air and kicked the enemy's face repeatedly with both feet. She cut one head off, and in midair, she kicked it like a soccer ball, and it broke another demon's face before she sliced him open.
When Blight appeared, a Komodo dragon sinner demon with glowing horns and fangs charged at Cody, but Kim shot him in the heart with the blessing tipped 1911. He stopped to see his inside glow a white light. Then Kim shot him multiple times in the chest until he fell on his back. He screamed and roared in agony as spots of his ribcage burst into white flames.
Cody saw the fire in Kim's eyes as she sent her glaring daggers on Blight. She gritted her sharp teeth, snarling her Imp demonic growl.
She grabbed him by the throat to make him look her in the eye as she growled, "Look at me. You fucking look at me, you son of bitch!"
Blight glared back as he was gasping for breath. The hatred was burning off of Kim like a roaring flame. Cody could understand how she felt in a way. Despite killing Valentino, he still had deep resentment for what he did – what he took away.
Kim saved the last bullet for his head. Blight burned up into a blaze of white flames until he was nothing but ashes. Kim was shaking while still pointing the gun where he once was. Cody slowly and gently took the gun out of her hands. Kim took long and deep breaths while still staring out into nothing. Then she slowly turned to face Cody. Kim tried to fight back against the tears, but they came. She rested her forehead against Cody's chest, and he gently hugged her in a comforting embrace.
"Shh, shh, it's alright. It's alright," Cody said, stroking her back and shoulders.
Kim continued to cry quietly as she hugged him back. Everyone gathered around after making sure everyone else was dead. After a long while, Kim finished crying.
"You okay?" Cody asked.
Kim nodded, "Yeah, I'm good."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah . . . thank you for everything."
"It's no problem," Cody said before turning to the others, "What time is it?"
"It's about five minutes to midnight," Moxxie answered.
"Are there any good places to eat that are still open? Because I think a good meal will do us some good."
Slade put his hand on Cody's shoulder, "You know what? That sounds like a good idea. Plus, I'm starving. What about you guys?"
Loona nodded, "Yeah, I could eat."
"Same," Millie and Moxxie said.
"Us too," Día and Summer added.
"Then it's settled. Let's have dinner. What's some good places?" Bloody Mary looked at her phone with Kely.
"Closed, too lousy, meh, no way," Kely said, scrolling through her phone's maps.
"I know a place that's open late. A diner, and the food's great. Follow me," Molly said, "By the way, did you find Hector?"
Cody nodded, "Yes, he didn't have a whole lot of info. Just a card with a phone number. He said to call it and say the callsign, then hang up and wait five minutes for someone to call back."
"Nothing about Angel?"
Cody shook his head.
Molly shrugged, "Well, better than nothing."
"It's a lead. We just gotta see it through," Loona said.
They followed her to the diner she talked about, Red's Diner. It was similar to the cool retro 1950s diner that Cody and his friends had after the Battle of the Bands. It was still open, and it wasn't too busy. Everyone sat in a big circle corner booth. Everyone mostly ordered burgers and fries with hot dogs. Some of the ladies ordered breakfast, like waffles, French toast, or bacon & eggs.
Millie broke the silence as they waited for their food.
"You said your dad is a Hellhound ninja, right? His name wouldn't happen to be Fuko by any chance?" Millie asked.
"Actually, it is. How'd you know that?" Kim asked.
"We just hired him not long before we came here," Slade answered.
"Wait, really?"
"Yep, after the world's best job interview," Moxxie said sarcastically.
"Sarcasm is the ass end of comedy, Moxxie," Blitzo replied.
Molly grinned, "From what I hear, you got no problem eating at the ass. What else do you eat besides Stolas's face?"
A round of Oooo's with wide eyes went around.
"Touché," Blitzo said.
Cody's phone rang, revealing Stolas in the caller ID, "Speak of the devil."
Cody put him on video call, "Stolas, what's up?"
"Hey Cody, I'm calling to let you know that Celeste is doing okay. She's settling in at my palace, and I've doubled the security. Is Via there?" Stolas asked.
"Yeah, Dad, I'm here," Octavia answered.
"Good. Tomorrow, we'll be shopping for things she'll need during her pregnancy, and I'll need your help with that," Stolas said.
"Okay, I'll be there. We should make a list. We need to be ready for any possible complications," Via added.
"Agreed. Also, there's one other thing you should know."
"What's that?"
Stolas turned his camera toward Celeste, "Hey Cody, it's Celeste. I want to help."
This confused everyone.
"Help with what?" Loona asked.
"Trying to solve this mystery about your parents, the Grimms, the I.S.N.A., the conspiracy with the angels and Heaven. I'm not saying I want to fight. I can't in my current condition, but I can do some research and help find clues through your parents' stuff," Celeste explained.
"I hope you don't mind. I showed her the study room where all of your parents' books, journals, and notes are," Stolas said.
"Yes, that's fine. I could use some extra help on that. There are a lot of journals and notes. I haven't even gotten a 4th of the way through it," Octavia said.
Cody sighed, "Okay, as long as Celeste is safe. That's what matters."
"Of course. She'll be safe. She and her future baby. You have my word," Stolas stated.
Cody saw Vortex and Tim behind them in the background.
"Tex! Tim!" Cody called out.
They both turned and walked over.
"Remind me later. I got something for you two. Some souvenirs I picked up after killing the Overlord Marduk. I think they'll serve you both well," Cody stated.
"Great," Vortex said.
"Sounds good," Tim said, giving a thumbs up.
"Wonderful. Anyway, we'll let you do your thing. I think Celeste could use some sleep," Stolas said.
"Good. We'll talk later, Stolas," Blitzo said.
Cody hung up.
"Souvenirs, huh?" Loona asked while leaning on Cody's shoulder.
"From the Overlord Marduk? King of the Minotaurs? Molly questioned with a raised eyebrow and smile.
"Yeah, two magical weapons – a big cleaver sword and a battle axe. I'll show them how they summon them whenever they want, like my weapons. I think they'll come in handy for them," Cody answered.
Then, their food finally arrived. It was absolutely delicious. Words fall short of what great a meal does for someone. Save someone's stomach, save their soul. Everyone chatted casually for a while.
"So, Kim, where are you going to school once summer's over?" Loona asked.
Kim finished chewing before answering, "Red Moon Junior High School. It's in Nightmare City."
"Red Moon Junior High School? Good school," Kely said.
"It's where we went to, right?" Kyo asked.
"Oh yeah. Don't you remember all the wedgies I gave out?" Kely grinned.
"Of course I do," Kyo frowned, "You gave me some."
Everyone laughed. Kely pulled her brother in for a noogie.
"Speaking of school, have you decided where Cody's going?" Slade asked Loona.
"No, we haven't. Red Moon's a good school?" Loona questioned.
"Oh, it's a good place. My dad and I took a tour of it. It's big, pretty, and has a great education system. They offer plenty of opportunities for their students. Which is good because I'm hoping to become a robotic engineer or technician one day," Kim explained.
"Robotic engineer, huh? Nice. Do you recommend this school?" Blitzo asked.
"I haven't gone there, but it left a really good impression. I have a really good feeling it will be better than Imp Middle School," Kim answered before turning to Cody, "Why? Are you not going to school on the surface with all the humans?"
"Sadly, no. The I.S.N.A. are hunting me. It's too dangerous, both for me and my friends, for me to go back," Cody answered.
Kim scooted closer to Cody, "Well, if that's the case, then maybe Red Moon is the place for you to go."
"I want to see this place before applying Cody there, " Loona firmly stated.
"Me too. We're not leaving our beautiful boy's safety up to chance," Blitzo said confidently while puffing up his chest.
Loona rolled her eyes. Slade spoke before she did, "Well, I'm sure if you schedule an appointment, this place will be happy to give you guys a tour."
"For sure," Moxxie added.
"Sounds like a plan," Millie said.
"Did you go to Red Moon, Octavia?" Cody asked.
"No, I went to Hell School. Same place Charlie went to," Via answered, "Although, I recommend going to Red Moon. I have a feeling it's better than Hell School. Plus, it'd be nice to go with someone you trust."
"That is true," Cody agreed.
At the end of dinner, Cody's phone rang again. This time it was Verosika. Cody left the table and went somewhere private to talk.
"Hey Verosika, what's up?" Cody spoke.
"Hey honey, I'm just calling to make sure you're alright. I heard about Slaughtersburg," Verosika said.
"Yeah, we're okay. We found a lead and some new friends. We found Angel Dust's sister, Molly. She kinda of runs Pink Shore. She had a letter from Angel with a secret message from the Grimms telling us to meet someone. We met him, and he told us how to meet Gestas. We're taking it all one step at a time," Cody responded.
"That's good."
"How about you? How are you?"
There was a long silence before Verosika answered, "I'm okay. Wally already has his business going. I'm hanging in there. My agent has a few gigs to hook me up with, but they're not much different than what I had before and . . . I'm not sure I want to go back to that."
"What? Don't you want to get back to music?" Cody asked.
"I do, but . . . I want it to be different. I don't want to be like the same of Verosika and her old music as before. I want to try something different. Be a new me. Which is what I wanted to ask you, Cody."
"What is it?" Cody asked.
"I don't want to impose or ask too much. I know you have a lot on your plate, but I was hoping that when I'm ready to perform that . . . that you'd be willing to perform with me," Verosika proposed.
Cody was quiet as he was stunned.
"I don't want to ruin or take advantage of your good reputation, but I think I'll get a real positive comeback if we perform together," Verosika explained.
"Like we sing together?" Cody asked.
"Yeah, if that's all right."
"Sure, no problem."
"Wait, really?!"
"Yeah, I don't see why not."
Verosika sounded like she was choking up with tears, "Oh, Cody! Thank you so much."
"Ah, it's nothing. I have a question, though. Do you know how to play any instruments? Because if you want something different in your comeback, you trying new music with an instrument, that'll definitely turn some heads," Cody said.
There was a moment of silence before Verosika answered, "I used to play guitar and keyboard, but that was a long time ago."
Cody then got an idea, "Oh! What about a keytar?"
"Keytar?"
"Yeah, you know, a keyboard like a guitar."
"I know what it is, sweetie. It's just that I never played them," Verosika said.
"Those things are awesome, and you can do a lot with them. You and me, we could really rock together. Heck, I'm willing to learn how to play those with you if you want. A new game changer can make a good comeback," Cody explained.
"Yeah, that would. Well, listen, nothing is going to happen right now. We'll play it by year and figure out when we both got the time."
"Sure. I can ask Molly to help set us up for a concert, but like you said, we'll play it by year."
"Sounds good, and again, thank you so much for agreeing to perform with me."
"Yeah, sure, it's no problem. A lot of musicians are in more than one band. So, I don't see any downsides to this."
"Neither do I. Do you really think I could be good with keytar?" Verosika asked.
"Verosika, you know Ninjutsu and martial arts, and you're a pop star. If you can learn all that, you can do anything," Cody answered.
"You really think so?"
"I know so."
"Okay, I'm gonna try."
"From the wise words of Master Yoda from Star Wars, 'Do. Or do not. There is no try.' So, don't try to learn. Do learn. Do better. Do at being your best, Verosika. Don't try to believe in yourself. Do believe in yourself," Cody stated.
Verosika chuckled softly, "Okay, wisecracker. I'll do, and then I'm gonna wipe your smirk off your face when you see how fucking awesome I'll be at the new me and at music!"
"Atta girl."
"Hell yeah! Anyway, bye!"
"Bye."
Cody walked back to the dinner table, where everyone finished up. They split the bill, and everyone met outside. Loona, Slade, Kyo, Día, and Summer started smoking.
Molly approached Cody and held his hands, "Keep me updated. I just want Angel to be safe."
"I will, and you stay safe," Cody replied.
Molly chuckled as she, Kely, and Bloody Mary got in her car, "Cody, dear, we'll be fine. We were all born lucky!"
Kely kissed her brother on the cheek, and he returned the same before she got in Molly's car.
"Hell yeah! We got the luck of the devil!" Bloody Mary hollered confidently as they drove away.
"They're an interesting bunch," Moxxie said.
"I hope they get freaky horny like Stolas and try to diddle our holes," Blitzo said.
Everyone gave the boss man a look.
"No comment," Slade said before inhaling a cigarette.
Kim walked over to Cody and kissed him on the cheek. This got everyone's attention. Cody's eyes widened as he blushed.
"That's thanks for helping me take out Blight," Kim said.
Kim gently felt Cody's face while looking deeply into his eyes. Cody's heart was pounding inside his chest, and Kim could see her reflection in his glistening eyes. She got on her black and blue adventure motorcycle. It was badass, almost like a hellish version of a Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally.
Kim put on her helmet and looked at Cody over her shoulder, "I'll be seeing you around, skinny butt!"
Then her motorcycle engine roared, and she went off like a bullet from a gun. Cody and the others watched as she disappeared over the horizon. Cody slowly turned to face his friends and had an uncertain face while blushing. His friends showed mixed reactions. Blitzo and M&M squeed with glee as they dashed over and squeezed Cody a hug. Octavia could hardly contain her excitement, and Loona showed the same amount of joy. Día, Summer, and Slade smiled calmly while nodding as if saying, 'Well done, kid.'
"I suppose it's a dumb question to ask if she likes me, huh?" Cody asked.
"Oh, sweet Satan, of course, she does!" Blitzo hollered.
"Cody, she eye-banging the shit out of you the whole time we were in that diner," Millie added joyfully.
"And she kept asking about you while you were taking that phone call," Moxxie added.
"Really?" Cody asked with a small smile.
"Oh yeah," Loona approached them, "She's really into you. We could tell."
"Before you know it, she's gonna wear your heart like a Ring Pop," Octavia stated confidently with a grin.
"Plus, she was blushing herself," Día said.
"Definitely. It was adorable," Summer added with a giggle.
This was a heck of a day for Cody and his friends. They found out the Grimms protect Angel Dust, they met a contact who told them how to find Gestas, they helped kill an Overlord, and Cody may have a future girlfriend or at least someone who admires him.
"I'm not sure how to feel about her calling me skinny butt, though," Cody said out loud.
"Better than being called fatty," Moxxie growled.
