I'm back to write a Star Wars story for the first time since TFA came out. Long story short, after the initial hype of getting to see a new Star Wars movie wore off back then I basically lost all interest and actually dislike the sequel trilogy and most associated content these days. However that doesn't sour the old Star Wars content I loved such as the old EU or Legends as most people call it now and the original 6 movies. So I thought why not take a shot at the time travel fic. Generally one of my favorite fic types if written well. Hopefully you guys enjoy this little bit I whipped up.

It takes bits of lore from Jude Watson's books that I loved reading as a kid, as well as a few aspects from TCW and Rebels, but I imagine those will be few. Then everything else will be a lot of headcanons on my part.

The Coruscant skyline never truly stopped. Be that during the days of the old Republic or the reign of the Empire. It made little difference to those who had little to worry about but the hustle and bustle of their daily tasks. Many considered it an eyesore. Some didn't consider it at all. It was simply a part of life.

For Luke Skywalker it was something of a novelty. While he'd traveled far and wide across the galaxy due to his military and Jedi duties alike, he'd never found a place that matched the energy of this place.

That did nothing to hide the massive scar he felt in the force here. He knew it's history already. The Empire had stormed the Jedi Temple and slaughtered everyone within without any sense of discrepancy or remorse. Even long after Order 66, Jedi often attempted to return to the temple for various reasons. Many had been slain or left empty handed if they were lucky. They'd be captured and made to serve the Emperor if they were unlucky.

Luke had come here to see if anything remained of the old Jedi Order, but the place was a hollow shell of its former self. Anything of value had long been taken from this place. The Emperor had truly seen to it that every trace of the once proud Order was wiped away.

Despite all that dark energy here, the Force still quietly sang here if one listened closely. A spark of hope perhaps. He'd accompanied Leia to the planet and they'd parted ways for now. He assured her they'd meet later once her duties in the Senate slowed for the day. He'd bet Han and Chewie would join them as well. Until then he'd be following the Force, hoping it might clue him in as to what he was searching for. It pulled him towards the lower levels. It was when he was at the Temple's core that he was compelled to wait and meditate. The Force was rarely this direct with him but he saw no reason to refuse.

He sunk into a meditative state. It was much easier here in this place where the Force danced so freely around him now that it had been released from its dark shackles as well. As time passed he began to hear whispers in the Force. He could feel everything shifting around him, yet he stood his ground, eyes sealed shut. He reached out with the Force. He could feel much around him. The Force felt brighter than he'd ever felt it. Familiar presences sat just out reach. Master Yoda. Ben. His Father. Thinking nothing of it, he reached out to touch their presences and suddenly his world was spinning.

Master Yoda often spent his days teaching the younglings in the temple or advising his fellow Jedi. He wasn't unused to his fellow Jedi probing him gently. It was often an old student, who may very well be a master all his own now or perhaps a youngling who is curiously reaching for him.

However, when a presence in the Force that's completely foreign to him appears within the confines of the Temple and attempts to make contact, he may be somewhat alarmed. His instincts tell him to investigate the matter himself. What he finds is unexpected. A young man is sitting in a meditation pose in the lower levels of the temple that rarely if ever see use these days.

When his eyes open slowly, he seems dazed and somewhat off kilter. His eyes widen in recognition and a layer of shock when he takes in Yoda's presence.

"Master Yoda!" the boy calls.

The old master's brows furrow and he's briefly wondering if perhaps his memory is going in his old age. This young man seemed to know him, but he couldn't recall the boy at all. Yet he could feel the familiarity coming off the stranger in waves.

"Recognize me you do. Yet made your acquaintance I have not." Yoda replies.

It was the boy's turn to look confused and frowned , "I see. It seems I have mistaken you for someone else. I just didn't expect anyone else to be in here and you just seemed to so much like him. "

"A mistake you have not made. Yoda I am indeed. Yet I am afraid I do not know who you are."

Blue eyes met his, "My name is Luke Skywalker. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

Skywalker. Now that was a name he was familiar with. The youngest member of his line bore the name Skywalker. Strong with the Force was he. Combine that with his lineage's tendency to attract any and all chaos in the universe and having another Skywalker join in was just par for course.

"Skywalker, hmmm. Know of only one who bears that name I do and too young to have fathered one your age he is."

Luke takes a moment to process that. He seems concerned.

"I know this might sound strange but what year is it?"

Despite giving his a strange look, Yoda obliged and told him the year.

Luke's eyes looked momentarily taken aback, but he remained otherwise calm outwardly, "Well it seems I'm quite far away from where I'm meant to be. By more than 30 years by my estimate." he stated.

Yoda eyed him suspiciously, "Hmm. A time traveler you now claim to be, yes? An outlandish tale, I would say." he said.

Luke looked worried at the fact that Yoda didn't seem to believe him.

"Yet to break the laws of time and space, unheard of it is not. Through the Force, many things are possible." he finished.

Luke knelt down, "Well, I'm Luke Skywalker. I trained under you and Obi Wan Kenobi. In this time I haven't even been born yet." he explained.

Yoda cautiously felt the bond that had sprung up between them, mostly from the young Jedi's side, "It would seem that you are telling the truth. Truly a troublesome one you must be, if needed to be my responsibility you did." he joked.

Luke grimaced, "Well, the circumstances were less than ideal, but you and Ben taught me to hold my own. Unfortunately there wasn't really an alternative at the time and my training was cut short due to unforeseen circumstances." he admitted.

Yoda felt the pang of grief coming from the boy, "Ah, then finally met my end I did. Unfortunate, but not unexpected when one lives as long as I."

Suddenly they were cut short by the sound of approaching footsteps. Several Jedi appeared to surround the man.

"Master Yoda, we felt an unknown presence and came as soon as possible." Mace Windu said.

Yoda saw the way his fellow Jedi looked apprehensive about their guest, "Away with your weapons, intends to harm us, he does not." he ordered.

Mace looked confused, but obeyed, deactivating his saber and returning it to his belt, but his stance didn't truly relax. He'd be ready to fight at a moments notice.

Suddenly lighter footsteps appeared in the room, "Master! I was right. I did sense something. See!" 11 year old Anakin Skywalker called loudly, gesturing to Luke.

Luke seemed to recognize the two presences in the force, but only vaguely. The realization hit him that alongside Yoda, he must've reached out to the younger version of his father and mentor.

Obi Wan Kenobi was a far cry from the old hermit he'd known in his lifetime. Tatooine must've done a real number on him, like it had Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen. This Ben couldn't have been more than a handful of years his senior. Heck they could be the same age.

"My apologies, Masters. Anakin sensed something off in the lower levels and made it a personal mission to investigate." he apologized.

Yoda shook his head, "Good instincts Young Skywalker has. Something was indeed amiss. However, nothing to worry about it is." he assured.

Anakin looked radiant as the praise and Obi Wan looked relieved. Then Anakin made eye contact.

"Who are you?" he asked.

Luke was momentarily caught off guard., "I...I'm Luke...Sk...I'm here at the temple to meet with Master Yoda." he replied.

Anakin noticed the hesitation on his last name and gave him an odd look. Mace Windu raised an eyebrow at the response as well.

"Well, met young Luke. Though I can't recall a Jedi or staff being named as such. Especially not someone with direct contact with Master Yoda."

"Have a life outside of the Council I do, Master Windu. A member of one of my many lineages. Young Luke is. One that settled among one of our many outposts across the galaxy."

Luke appreciated Yoda's explanation. Besides it was true as old Ben would say...from a certain point of view.

The Korrun master didn't seem entirely convinced, but he wasn't about to argue with the grandmaster in the musty underground of the temple.

"I see. Welcome to the Temple then, Luke. I look forward to getting to hear more about a fellow member of Master Yoda's lineage." he stated.

He then turned and directed the other Jedi including Anakin and Obi Wan out of the room.

Luke and Yoda looked at each other with an amused smile, "Perhaps we can talk more over tea." the former suggested.

"Yes, yes. In my quarters we can discuss more about this future of yours and why the Force has brought you here."

Yoda prepared them tea and Luke prayed his tea was better than the food he'd eaten on his time on Dagobah.

The little green Jedi sat across from him on the mediation mat after placing the tea between them. Luke poured for both himself and Yoda.

"Well mannered you are. In ways that remind me of young Obi Wan. Speak of him as someone who taught you as well you did."

Luke's lips formed a sad smile, "Obi Wan, or rather Ben as I knew him, was my first teacher who taught me the very basics of the Force and what it meant to be Jedi. Unfortunately, he was killed making time for my friends and I to escape during a very dangerous rescue mission. It was only then that I was directed to you."

Yoda digested the information, "I see. To see Obi Wan fall so soon, a shame it is. A troubled boy he has been, but a good young man he has become despite the odds. Would another Master not complete your training? After my long service to the Order, take an apprentice often I do not."

The master could feel the boy's hesitation as if he was about to say something of great importance and had to choose his words carefully, "That's where things get complicated because I wasn't there and I didn't and still don't have a lot of information to go off of. In my time, the Jedi Order no longer exists..." he dropped the bomb.

Yoda looked quite skeptical of Luke's claim, but allowed him to continue, "You and Obi Wan were among the last Jedi Masters in the galaxy, though I always suspected many went into hiding after the Purges. I was an unusual circumstance and didn't start my training until I was 19 years old. When I began my training you were skeptical of my abilities and my patience, but eventually relented after Obi Wan helped convince you. I trained with you several months before against your wishes I left to aid my friends. A decision that cost me greatly."

Yoda noticed that Luke was unconsciously flexing his gloved hand, that clued him in as to what it had cost the young man.

"I took on the man called Darth Vader alone and it cost me my right hand and the lightsaber given to me at the start of my training. It was a year before I recovered physically and mentally enough to return to you to complete the training. In that time I used journals left by Ben to construct my own lightsaber and had to artificially forge my own crystal as well. By the time I returned, your health had declined and I was by your bedside as you passed away."

Yoda's ears drooped momentarily, but nodded as if expecting his own demise, "No unexpected is my passing. At my age you learn to except the possibility that every day may be your last. To have constructed a lightsaber and forged a crystal as you have hmm...quite skilled you must be for one so young. Worrying though is this Darth Vader you speak of. A Sith is he?" Yoda questioned.

Luke nodded, "Yes. At least according to Ben. I didn't really know of the term until you mentioned it during our time on Dagobah." he confirmed.

Yoda brought a hand to his chin, "This Vader...the Master he was?...or the apprentice?" he asked.

Luke swallowed hard, eyes flickering with faint emotion, "The apprentice. His Master...was something much darker. Vader was the Empire's primary enforcer and wielded the force like an iron fist. The Emperor though...he was like a monster trying to find your way under your skin and into your head." he explained, recounting his only meeting with the old man responsible for so many horrors in the galaxy.

The grandmaster thoughtfully scratched his chin before making eye contact with Luke, "The Emperor you say. Tell me more can you? About this emperor." he inquired.

The blonde sipped the tea, "I'll tell you what I can, but it isn't much. If my sister were here she could probably tell you a lot more. She and her adoptive father were high ranking members of the rebellion and knew a lot more about the political and historical aspects than I do. I grew up on Tatooine far from much of the conflict."

"Raised on the same planet as young Anakin you were then. Family are you? A father who was also a Jedi you spoke of."

"He was my father, but I was raised by my aunt and uncle on a moisture farm on Tatooine after both my parents died during the rise of the the Empire. Ben watched over me until my aunt and uncle were killed as well and took me under his wing briefly before he met his end in an effort to protect me and the others." he recalled sadly.

Yoda gave a sad smile, "Strong of spirit are you to experience so much loss and still stand tall. Always one to look out for others at the cost of himself, Obi Wan has been. It seems time will not change that for better or worse."

Luke set his tea cup back down, "I should tell you what I can in case the time I have here is limited. The Emperor reorganized the Republic after a short period of war called the Clone Wars that occurred shortly before I was born. He claimed to be bringing peace to the galaxy by bringing it under his complete control using war time powers he'd gathered as Chancellor. Somehow he convinced the masses that the Jedi were responsible for the entire war and that they attempted to overthrow him. The result was Order 66. An order sent out to all troops to turn on their Jedi generals and exterminate them as traitors. All of them." he added that last part for emphasis."

A grave look marred Yoda's face, "All you say? Even the younglings?" he asked.

"Yes."

Yoda looked truly sad at that moment. Luke had been told by Obi Wan and his father that Master Yoda had often spent his days with the youngest generation of Jedi in his time in the temple and that he was always fond of them and happy to help facilitate their training. Hearing that they hadn't even been spared the from the massacre probably broke his heart.

"This Emperor. What is his name?" Yoda asked seriously.

Luke looked hesitant, "His name was Sheev Palpatine. Former Chancellor of the Republic." he answered.

Yoda's heart might as well have stopped in that moment.

Meanwhile, Obi-Wan was attempting to get Anakin back on track with his training exercises, but Anakin was too focused on their visitor.

"I know you probably think it's crazy, but I'm telling you something feels weird about that guy." Anakin commented.

Obi Wan tugged Anakin's padawan braid, "That's very rude to say Anakin. About a fellow member of the Order and Master Yoda's lineage no less."

Anakin shrugged, "I'm not saying it's a bad thing. He just feels...different." he says.

Obi Wan smiled, "Anakin, I think you'll find that the more you go through life, many people may feel strange, but it is unwise to go questioning them about it."

Anakin sighed, "I know. I'm just curious is all." he admits.

Obi Wan chuckled, "That's fine and well my young Padawan, but you can entertain your curiosities after you've finished these exercises and the homework you've been assigned." he told the boy.

Anakin looked reluctant, but did as he was told.

Obi-Wan had to admit that he quite agreed with his Padawan's assessment of the situation. It was all very strange. Even stranger the moment the force signature initially appeared, he could've sworn he'd felt it reach out to him. Especially odd given that as far as he knew he'd not had any previous contact with the man. He'd have to find a polite way to speak to Master Yoda about it himself. What he wouldn't give to have Qui-Gon and his usual lack of tact in this moment. His master was many things, but subtle he was not when it came to situations like these.

The young knight shook his head, reminding himself to focus on his padawan. Anything else could be handled another time.

So it's kinda nice honestly. Writing like this again. I don't get the spark often like I used to and it's always a fun time when I do. I don't plan to leave this as a one-shot, but updates will likely be sporadic at best as anyone who has read anything from me in the years prior likely already knows. Feel free to leave me feedback and hopefully I'll get back to you soon.
