Backstory:
All the ways this story aligns and deviates from the canon Twilight Saga (particularly Breaking Dawn).
The storyline of the first three books remains exactly the same. All events of Breaking Dawn book 1 occur the same way with one deviation. After their standoff at the wedding reception, Jacob Black runs away again as he did at the end of Eclipse.
The entire pregnancy storyline of book 2 occurs the same way, minus the wolf drama. With Jacob still on the run, Sam maintains the perspective we heard in Breaking Dawn chapter 8, regarding the Cullens as an ally and allowing Bella to choose vampire transformation for herself. Again, without Jacob's interference, the pack wouldn't learn about the pregnancy and wouldn't feel the need to plan an attack.
Obviously in the original story, Jacob played a vital role in the pregnancy story and birth debacle. However, in this alternate universe we are assuming that without the threat of the pack's attack the Cullens eventually came to their own conclusion that Bella needed extra blood for the baby. Also, Edward is able to get Bella through birth and transformed into a vampire without Jacob's help.
After her transformation, she would act as controlled as we saw her in BD book 3. The Cullens are able to keep up the charade with Charlie and proceed forward with Bella's idea of seeing him in person, eventually. In the meantime, they plan to leave for at least a year before checking in with him.
To do this, Edward, Bella, and Carlisle meet with Sam and Billy (similar to the meeting at the end of Life and Death) to discuss the treaty and future plans. At this time, they keep Renesmee a secret. Seeing Bella's peace with her decision and maturity as a newborn, as well as spurred by the camaraderie of the newborn army battle and Carlisle's medical treatment of Jacob, they agree to their continued alliance and allow for future visits with Charlie. They make a plan to allow for yearly visits during the August-September season to commemorate Bella's human birthday.
Sam reports all of this to the other wolves. As Jacob is in his wolf form, he hears this and is furious. He demands the rest of the pack refrain from discussing the Cullens in wolf form to spare him the heartbreak. They agree. Anytime it must be discussed amongst the wolves, they warn Jacob and he phases to human to avoid the information or the pack discusses as humans without him.
As for the Volturi, when the Cullens leave Forks shortly after Bella's transformation, they head to Alaska. They update their cousins on the new events in life. Though they are shocked, they believe and support them. Tanya is able to contact Irina as well and update her, avoiding her ever going to the Volturi out of malice. Aro does send his gaudy necklace gift and the Cullens start to pursue their plan of Bella going to Italy with Carlisle accompanying her part of the way. Carlisle contacts Aro, setting up the visit to allow for time for Bella to adjust before having to travel. While the visit was tense for Bella, Aro acquiesced his approval. After this trip, the family headed to Brazil seeking help for Renesmee. Similarly to the original story, the Amazon coven helps them locate Nahuel and Huilen to find reassurance on Renessmee's future. With this good news, the family heads back to the States happy to start planning their lives together.
The Cullens relationship with Charlie proceeds similarly to the book, with him insisting his "need to know" attitude and taking all the supernatural elements in stride as long as he can stay in contact with Bella. On their first yearly visit, they bring along Renesmee to meet Charlie. During this time, they also discuss her existence with the pack, wanting to make sure of her safety as well. Because the Cullens can attest to her first year of life being well-controlled as well as their gathered knowledge about her future from meeting Nahuel, the wolves grudgingly agree.
Charlie and Sue do begin a relationship, marrying by the time this story starts, allowing for a continued friendship between Seth and the Cullens. Seth and Leah continue to live on the reservation, in the house they shared with their mother. Sue and Charlie live together in Forks. Seth and Sam are the only wolves to meet Renesmee at her first visit. Seth especially helps as a liaison to keep Charlie in the dark while looking out for all involved. He continues this each time the Cullens are in town.
Jacob returns home shortly after the Cullens' first year visit. He learns the barest, most brief version of the Cullens' story to be up to date on pack agreements, told to him in human form as he does not want to see the memories. He knows of Renesmee's existence and her parentage, which disgusts him, but he refuses to see the memories of her or Bella in person from Sam or Seth. From that point forward, he escapes town each year when they come to visit.
The Cullens spend the first couple of years of Renesmee's life in Alaska, allowing her and Bella to fully acclimate to their way of life. They decide it will be best to wait until Renesmee is fully grown before they find a new town to restart their usual routine of starting high school, living together there for a new decade.
For these eight years, their lives are filled with reveling in the joy of having Bella and Renesmee join the family. They visit some of their most remote and favorite locations, hunting exotic wildlife and helping Renesmee grow into her healthy young adult body. Edward, along with the rest of the family, coordinate homeschool education to fit her unique development. From their time in Alaska, Eleazar and Kate help Bella develop her shield talent. While this training happens slower without the threat of the Volturi, Bella excels at it. By the time our story picks up, she is proficient at shielding others when she chooses as well as dropping her own shield to communicate with Edward as she pleases.
And now we arrive at the start of our story. To set the scene, the year is 2015. The Cullens have decided that they will start over in a new town for the Fall of 2015, with Edward, Bella, Renesmee, Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, and Emmett all starting high school together. Bella and Renesmee are ecstatic to get to be a part of their family's longest running tradition, making the whole family (even Edward) excited to go back to high school. To celebrate this next life step, many members of the family are spending the summer enjoying small trips: Carlisle and Esme head on to the new town and begin decorating their new house, Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett, and Bella and Edward all want to go away on "honeymoons" before all living together again. Bella and Edward are hesitant to leave Renesmee. With this in mind, Renesmee has an idea. She's been itching for a taste of her own independence and asks her family to allow her to visit her grandpa Charlie on her own while they all enjoy their trips.
At this time, Renesmee is nearing her "9th birthday" (and Bella's 9th vampire birthday) with full mental development for over a year as well as her physical growth stopping the previous year at what resembles a 20 year old woman.
Jacob is now 25 years old, matching the frozen 25 year old body he has said since he started phasing 9 years ago.
Also for this story, I just had a headcanon that over time Alice would find a way to see Renesmee's future in some way. I have no idea if Stephenie Meyer would agree but I thought it would be fun!
