Hey, everybody! After seeing DeviantArt posts of Anne from Amphibia, one of my absolute favorite shows, shipped with a human version of her amphibious friend Sprig, the idea for this fanfic came to mind. I decided to change quite a few things for this AU, aside from making all of the inhabitants of Amphibia human. For one thing, Sasha is wealthy and popular like she was on the show, but much less bossy and demanding of her friends. Marcy is still the klutzy, loveable dork that she was on the show. And Anne has some different hobbies and respects her parents a lot more. Some other things will be changed, but I'll let you find out for yourself as the story proceeds. Enjoy!

Chapter 1

Towel? Check.

Sunscreen? Check.

Bathing suit? Check.

Formal dresses for the dinner shows? Check.

Anne Boonchuy, a tall, gangly Thai-American girl with brown skin, brown hair, and brown eyes, was making sure she had everything for her vacation with her two best friends. Sasha's parents were crazy-rich, and Sasha had managed to convince them to buy tickets for a cruise. The cruise left in two hours, so Anne was making sure she had everything she needed and then some. Call her paranoid, but both of her parents were immigrants from Thailand (Anne herself was born in the States), and they had instilled in her the virtue of being prepared for anything that might happen.

"Anne? Are you ready to go?" Anne heard her mother call from downstairs in English with a moderate accent.

"Almost, Mom! Just a few more things to check!" Anne called back. She quickly ran through the remainder of her checklist, then lugged her baggage down the stairs and into the hall, where both of her parents were waiting. They had temporarily closed their small, privately owned Thai carry-out restaurant, Thai Go, to see their daughter off at the dock. Her parents were eccentric like that, and she loved them for it.

"Why are you still in your school uniform?" her mother, a woman who looked exactly like an older version of Anne, asked with a raised eyebrow. Anne looked down at her attire; a light-gray polo shirt with a lavender collar and her school's emblem on the chest, a lavender pleated knee-length skirt, and bright yellow high-top sneakers with white socks.

"School just got out an hour ago, Mom. I, uh, didn't have time to change," Anne meekly replied, rubbing one arm.

"Eh, don't worry. You can just change on the boat," her mother said with a dismissive gesture. "Now get in the car, we have to go!"

...

"Hey, girlfriends!" Anne shouted and embraced her two best friends in the whole world: Sasha Waybright, a fair-skinned girl with blue eyes and blond hair in a ponytail; and Marcy Wu, an Asian-American girl with caramel skin and short, wavy black hair with bangs held back by a green clip, as well as hazel eyes.

Sasha, as previously stated, was the daughter of two of the wealthiest people in San Fransisco, California, where all three girls lived. Her father was the CEO of a large textile manufacturing company, and her mother was the owner of a small fashion empire. Sasha's heart was just as big as her wallet, and she refused to let her wealth and popularity as a cheerleader get between her and her friends.

Marcy, while more than a little scatterbrained, was very much the brains of the outfit. Being smart as a whip made up for her extreme clumsiness, and she never failed to help out Anne and Sasha if they were struggling with schoolwork. In addition, she was a HUGE Dungeons & Dragons nerd, continually spouting nonsense about the various games she played that her friends could barely understand. They did their best to support her in all of her endeavors, though, which was really all that mattered.

"Are you two ready to have the time of your lives?" Sasha said, holding up all three tickets with a broad grin.

"You bet! I can't wait to go scuba diving and see how many kinds of exotic fish I can find!" Marcy declared with an equally wide smile.

"I hear ya, sister! But it's the exotic food I'm interested in!" said Anne. Being the daughter of restaurant owners and authentic Thai chefs, Anne considered herself to be a connoisseur of sorts (as well-fed as she usually was, her being rail-thin was a miracle and, honestly, a mystery). She wanted to be the judge of how the Thai dishes on the cruise would taste and call the cooks out for skimping on traditional techniques and spices.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's say goodbye to our rides and get going!" said Sasha. Her parents were swamped with their work, as usual, so her family's butler/chauffer had brought her to the dock. Marcy giggled as both of her parents peppered her face with kisses, and Anne gave her parents a firm hug that she dragged out for several seconds. The three friends then boarded the cruise ship, which set sail a few minutes later.

Neither the passengers, nor the crew paid any attention to the dark clouds building on the horizon.

...

Once the girls all had their luggage safely stowed away in their rooms, Sasha and Marcy both insisted on visiting the swimming pool before anything else. Anne was feeling too lazy to change at the moment, so she just took off her shoes and socks before lounging in a beach chair while Sasha and Marcy splashed around in the water. They wore nearly identical one-piece bathing suits, hot pink for Sasha and olive green for Marcy. Anne leaned back and closed her eyes, giving a content sigh of relaxation.

Sasha noticed that Anne's chair was right by the edge of the pool, and that gave her an idea. Wading over to Marcy, she pointed out the small detail to the Asian girl and whispered in her ear. When she was done, both girls snickered and fist-bumped. Sasha climbed out of the pool and snuck up behind Anne.

"Hey, Anne! The weather's pretty warm don't you think?" Marcy called. "Don't you wanna cool off in the water?"

"Nah, dude, I'm fine. Besides, I'm not in my swimsuit," Anne replied, her eyes still closed.

"Too bad!" Sasha hollered and heaved up on the back of the chair with all her might. Anne gave a startled screech as she tumbled into the water, while the other two girls burst out laughing. Anne surfaced and laughed alongside them after spitting out the water in her mouth.

"Good one, guys, but sooooooo not cool! I'm still in my school clothes!" she complained. They all froze in place when they heard the loudspeakers squeal.

"Attention, passengers, this is your captain speaking. Inclement weather is approaching and will arrive shortly. For your safety, please return belowdecks to your private rooms. Thank you." The three girls all looked up and noticed that the sky had turned gray. They also felt the wind speed up, chilling their wet skin and making them shiver. They made the wise decision to heed the captain's warning.

Twenty minutes later, the girls were showered, dressed in dry clothes, and playing video games in Sasha's room while rain poured against the window. Room service had brought them chicken wings, nachos, and soda to eat and drink while they played. While watching Sasha and Marcy savagely brawling in Mortal Kombat 11, Anne heard the call of nature. Upon her return from the ensuite bathroom, the loudspeakers squealed yet again.

"This is your captain speaking. All passengers and personnel, report to the lifeboats and prepare to abandon ship. This is not a drill. Keep in mind that the lives of yourself and your fellow passengers are more important than your possessions. I repeat, this is not a drill. Report to the lifeboats and prepare to abandon ship."

"Uh, g-guys..." Anne and Sasha looked at Marcy, who was staring out the window with eyes the size of saucers. They looked where she was looking. Illuminated by the intermittent flashes of lightning was something very large and very fast approaching the ship from a distance. All three girls looked at each other and bolted for the door, flinging it open and joining the crowd rushing to the top deck. Somehow, they managed to get to the deck without getting trampled, but there were still countless people waiting to get into a lifeboat, and by that time the hundred-foot-tall tsunami was almost on top of them.

The three girls tried to stay together by attempting to hold hands, but it was no use. The chaos on the deck was too much. All it took was for Marcy's grip, wet from the torrential downpour, to falter for only a moment, and the crowd wrenched them apart (she had been in the middle, with Sasha holding her left hand and Anne holding her right). The panicking girls tried to force their way through the crowd and get back together, but it was too late.

"INCOMING!" somebody screamed, and the tsunami struck.

The ship instantly split across the middle, throwing everybody every which way as if they were rag dolls. Marcy was thrown to the rear of the ship and Sasha to the front of the ship, but Anne and the other passengers squarely in the middle weren't so lucky. The ship split right between her feet, so instead of getting thrown to either side, Anne fell straight down. Well, as straight as she could with three splintering decks between her body and the churning seawater. Still, by the time she went under the surface of the waves, she was mostly unharmed, and she clambered onto a large hardwood plank (made up of a cluster of floorboards) upon bobbing back to the surface.

While trying to regain her bearings and make sense of the situation, something large and blunt struck the back of her head, and everything went black.

As you can plainly see, rather than having them get transported by the Calamity Box to another world, I decided to shipwreck them instead. Boy, will Anne be in for a surprise when she wakes up!
