A/N: I've always loved this episode, and putting my own spin on it was fun! My plans for it changed slightly, which you will definitely enjoy ;) and I explored some feelings relationships that definitely felt like they needed discussing!

I was utterly convinced of Stefan's cruelty when he suggested that the upcoming Homecoming dance would be the best opportunity to take out Klaus. He said that we would have the element of surprise and we would be in total control. I was just convinced that he wanted to ruin another school dance. The dick.
But first, we had to lure Klaus back to town. And that wouldn't be easy. The only one who would really be able get him back would be Stefan. Because Klaus had compelled him, the younger Salvatore would have to tell him the truth. We could get Rebekah to lie to him, that would be an issue. But Stefan was the problem.
The brothers, Elena and I were gathered in the library, brainstorming the best way to get him back. We needed to put together an airtight story and that was not going to be easy.
"So, let's say that Mikael followed Elena in here," Stefan paced back and forth as he mused aloud. "He tried to grab her, so he could use her as bait."
"And you what?" Elena scoffed, shaking her head. "Vervained him?"
"Bit unrealistic that you did that by yourself, Stefan," I shrugged, leaning back against Damon's chest. "You ain't that strong."
I had proven myself to be incredibly unhelpful and had instead used me time to take pot shots at Stefan. To be fair, he had been making snide comments to me too. I just made mine while taking shelter in my vampire's arms. Stefan knew that Damon would not hesitate to put him on time-out if he did something to me.
The younger Salvatore narrowed his eyes at me while Damon rolled his eyes, "No, we vervained him. This guy is an Original. Need to make it realistic."
"Okay, fine," Stefan reluctantly agreed, shaking his head. "We vervained him, and in the process discovered that he had a dagger."
"Which he planned to use on Rebekah," Ellie continued, nodding her head in approval. "But instead…"
"We drove it through his heart," my sister's ex finished her sentence for her. Despite his new attitude, I could see Ellie's body relax around him. I knew that it was hard for her to move past her feelings for him. And having him around was not easy for her to do so.
"But what he is asks to see the body?" I frowned, enjoying the feel of Damon's fingers stroking my skin. "Cos he totally would, getting proof is one of Klaus' annoying little habits."
"Good point," my vampire agreed before looking over at Stef. "You, my brother, have been compelled to do what Klaus says. So the idea is to lure him back here and kill him, and the last thing that we need is you getting tripped up and tongue-tied."
"Well, don't look at me," the little shit shrugged, looking like he didn't care about that little detail. When we all knew that he totally did. "I am just in charge of getting him back here."
"Klaus is smart," Ellie mused quietly, thinking aloud. "Like Alexa said, if we tell him that Mikael is dead, he will want proof."
"Then I shall be dead," a new voice declared from the doorway. We glanced over to see Mikael entering the room, approaching the drink table. Ever since he had arrived on the Boarding House doorstep this morning, he had given me bad vibes. We needed him to take out Klaus, but did we really trust him? Damon had told me what happened when Daddy Original approached them at the bar, how he nearly ripped my boyfriend's heart from his chest.
"What if he wants to see you in person?" my sister asked curiously as Mikael pulled out a familiar dagger and bottle from his pocket.
"Well, that means our plan is working," Mikael replied, glancing over at my twin with a cold look in his eyes. Every instinct in my body was screaming at me not to trust him. But he was the only one who had a weapon that could kill our biggest enemy. "Klaus will absolutely want to see my body. You lure him here, and I will kill him."
"With what?" Stefan scoffed, crossing his arms. "Those daggers won't work on him."
"Well, I'm in possession of a stake fashioned from the wood of the ancient white oak tree," the Original replied, as casually as someone like him could. "The one that left these ashes when it burned."
"Well, where is it?" I asked as I reluctantly left the comfort of Damon's arms. He was content to wait on the upper level, watching everything from above. But if Mikael was going to offer someone the opportunity to dagger him, I wanted to be the one to take it. After what he did to my boyfriend, I was itching to do something to him.
Mikael's lips quirked up in a mockery of a smile as he dipped the dagger into the ashes, "Not here. The knowing of it's location is my insurance policy."
"Against what?" Stefan prompted before I could. I made sure to keep myself between him and my sister, even though I didn't particularly want to be near him myself. But I put my twin's comfort first.
"You leaving this in my heart," the Original replied and I had to shrug at that.
"Yeah, that's a good point," I conceded with a sigh. There goes that option. Guess we had to do all of this with his help.
"You see, a vampire can't dagger an Original without dying," Mikael said, telling us something that we already knew. "So, it falls to one of you."
He held out the dagger to me and my sister. I could see her hesitating, her hands shaking by her side.
"You… you want us to actually dagger you?" she stuttered as I reached out to take the offered dagger. I could see Elena glance at me out of the corner of my eye but I ignored it. It was like there was this small voice in the back of my head telling me that this was the right thing to do. That he deserved this.
"Klaus will leave nothing to chance," the Original said as I adjusted the dagger in my hand. "Especially when it comes to trust."
"Well, one spends a thousand years being hunted, they tend to get a bit paranoid," I shrugged, looking down at the dagger, ignoring the vampire in front of me. "But hey, shit happens right?"
"Indeed," Mikael said, his voice low as he stared at me.
I rolled my shoulders before holding the dagger up, "Everyone ready? Mikael?"
The Original nodded and I snapped my wrist forward. There was just no way of properly explaining what it felt like to stab someone. The blade slide through his flesh with ease, causing him to gasp. Mikael reached out to grab my shoulder, squeezing hard, as his skin slowly started to turn grey.
Deep within me, I felt a flash of satisfaction as the Original's body fell to the floor. I watched with wide eyes as he hit the ground with a thump. I had enough sense to let go of the dagger when he fell and it stuck out of his chest. It wasn't the sight of a dead body that bothered me, although that still made me feel queasy. It was the satisfied feeling that I felt, deep within me, at having killed a vampire. It was disturbing and unnerving and I just didn't want to think about it.
I cleared my throat and looked away from the body, glancing at Stefan instead, "Time to make your call."

Damon made his way over to me, wrapping his arms around me, while Stefan got out his phone to call Klaus. It was clear from his face that he really didn't want to be calling the Big Bad Original Hybrid. But he didn't have a choice. He was the only one who could get Klaus back to town.
The younger Salvatore rolled his eyes at whatever the hybrid said when he answered. It must have been some kind of drivel. Klaus was a bit lame like that.
"Your father is dead," Stefan said simply and I huffed. That probably wasn't the best way to do that. The simple statement would only put Klaus on edge and that was the last thing that we needed. There was a pause before he smirked, "Oh, my mistake. Not your actual father and not dead. Mikael. Daggered. What do you want me to do with the body?"
The pauses were driving me crazy. I longed for vampire hearing in order to find out what was being said. I knew that Damon was able to listen and he would update me on anything important later. But I just wanted to know now.
"Alexa happened," Stefan started to explain. The mention of my name jolted my attention away from where I had been staring at Mikael's body. I couldn't get that feeling from earlier out of my head. And it was driving me crazy. "Mikael got into the Boarding House and wanted Elena. Alexa got in the way and managed to get her hands on a dagger. And she didn't have any hesitation in using it."
Damn straight. Even though Mikael had allowed us to dagger him, I would have taken him out if he went after my sister. I was thoroughly fed up of supernatural beings trying to kill her. And I was starting to become a bit of a badass, thanks to my training with Ric and Damon.
"Well, he is here," the younger vampire shrugged, glancing over at Mikael's body. "Come by whenever."
It was quite disturbing, having his body just lying in the middle of the room. He wasn't in the most comfortable position either, as he was still in the position that he fell in. No one had wanted to touch his body long enough to adjust it into a more comfortable position.
"It's true" Stefan nodded, his voice taking on a serious tone. Ah, was this were Klaus pulled the compulsion card? Was this the moment of truth? "I saw it with my own eyes."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Rebekah enter the room. I knew that she had been hanging around, especially since we knew that Klaus would want confirmation from her too. But the blonde was reluctant to actually watch her father get daggered, even if it was only temporary.
"That's no problem. She is right here," Stefan passed the phone over to Rebekah, who had walked all the way into the room. The blonde didn't look at her father's dead body at all. I wondered if it was because she was sad, or if it was because she would enjoy the sight too much.
She held the phone to her ear and answered, "Hello Nik."
Rebekah was silent for a moment before finally looking over at Mikael's body, "It's true. He's finally out of our lives for good." She cleared her throat before looking away from all of us, "I miss you. I'm miserable here."
I watched as Rebekah's shoulders tensed, "Good. I'll see you then, brother." She hung up and took a deep breath before turning back around, "He bought it. He's coming home."
"Now, was that easy or what?" Damon smirked behind me. I rolled my eyes, it wasn't as easy as it could have been, but we managed it. That was step one of the plan completed.
Elena gave Damon a dirty look as she crouched down next to Mikael, "Let's just get this over with."
I winced as she pulled out the dagger. I always hated that noise. It was some kind of disgusting, squelching sound. Just bleugh. My sister stared down at the body for a moment before shaking her head and walking away. But I did notice that she kept the dagger with her.
"Come with me," Damon whispered in my ear, using his hold on me to lead me from the room. I happily let him direct me up to his bedroom. It had become my safe space in the house, since Stefan didn't dare enter here without Damon being in the room. Even without his humanity, he didn't cross that line. Maybe he was aware that his brother would kick his ass and wouldn't even hesitate.
"What's up, Day?" I asked, sitting down on his bed. I scooted into the middle, crossing my legs and leaning forward.
"How are you feeling with all of this?" he sat down in front of me, reaching out to tuck my hair behind my ear.
"Well, I don't really trust Mikael, like at all, and it kinda sucks that we need him," I sighed, grabbing his hand and tangling my fingers with his. "But I want Klaus gone more. He's a threat to my sister, he's fucked up Stefan, and I'm… I'm scared that he'll do something to take you away from me." I looked down at the silk bedsheets. "He wants me to carry on the bloodline, and that means that I have to be knocked up, which is not something that I want anyway. But to make that happen, he might do something to you, and I don't think I could bear that."
"Hey," Damon hushed me gently, leaning forward to rest his forehead against mine. I closed my eyes, savoring his touch. "Nothing is going to take me away from you. I will never leave you; I promise." He reached out to cup my cheek, tilting my head up so that I was looking him in the eye, "I love you, Alexa."
My heart exploded in my chest at his words. I couldn't even begin to describe how happy they made me. I could feel my cheeks burning as they blushed a bright red and I smiled, "I love you too, Damon."

I saw next to Bonnie on Elena's bed, drawing dick pics on the hybrid photo. Bon had brought over some of the photos to look through, while Ric had handled the rest. My sister had dragged me out of the Boarding house to help her decide on an outfit for the Homecoming dance. She had left it a bit late, considering it was the day of the actual dance. But I seriously suspected that if we weren't planning on taking out Klaus, at the dance, she wouldn't have went.
Elena was pulling dresses out of her closet, holding them up against her before shaking her head. She must have gone through quite a few dresses before sighing, "I hate everything in my closet. I have nothing to wear to Homecoming."
"Maybe you should have come shopping with me and Bonnie when we offered," I smirked cheekily, making my sister roll her eyes at me. It was during Stefan's forced time-out, Lexi style, when we went. "You can look through my closet if you want. My dress is at Damon's, so you can pick anything you like."
"Or, just don't go," our witchy friend suggested with a shrug. "Let's stay home, order takeout and over analyze ancient hieroglyphic thingies with Alaric and Jenna."
"Wouldn't that be living the dream," I teased, gently elbowing Bonnie. She rolled her eyes and nudged me back.
"We have to go," Ellie laughed, shutting her closet and sitting at the end of the bed. "Caroline will kill us."
"Caroline actually has a date," Bon rolled her eyes, but there was note of bitterness in her voice. I exchanged a glance with my twin. I had carefully avoided the topic of Jeremy whenever I spoke with my friend. I knew that no matter what I said, I wouldn't make her feel better. And she didn't want to put me in the position where I had to choose sides. So we just didn't speak about it.
But I knew that Elena felt differently. She wanted to make everything better, to make everyone feel better. This was really the first chance that she had had to talk to Bonnie about it. Most of my sister's time had been taken up with Stefan and the cave. And when she did see Bonnie, Ric and Jenna were usually there too.
"You know that you can talk to me about Jeremy, right?" Ellie offered softly, reaching out to place a hand on Bonnie's knee.
"I don't need to talk about it," Bon shrugged, but it was clear that she was just trying to avoid the topic. "He fell in love with his ghost girlfriend and lied about it. What's done is done."
I didn't know if she was honestly feel that way or just saying that to appease Elena. If she did, then it would be incredibly healthy of her. And Bonnie had always been one to rationalize her feelings. The witch was almost definitely the most emotionally healthy of us all.
"You have to talk about it," Ellie pushed slightly, a small frown on her face. "He hurt you, Bonnie. I am mad at him, too."
Bonnie smiled and shook her head, looking like she didn't believe my sister's words, "You are mad at your little brother. You'll yell at him a little, teach him a life lesson. You can't really be mad at him like I am mad."
"Bonnie," Ellie sighed, but Bonnie spoke over her.
"And you shouldn't have to be. He's your brother. So, no, I can't really talk to you about it."
Ellie opened her mouth to disagree but I reached out a placed a hand on her arm. I wrapped my other arm around Bonnie's shoulders. Both of my girls looked over at me.
"We're not going to talk about boys in general," I said, my tone allowing for no arguing. "We're going to do each other's nails, help Elena find a dress and pretend that we're all just normal girls going to a high school dance. Deal?"
Ellie and Bonnie exchanged a glance before both of them nodded. My sister shook her head at me, "When did you get so bossy?"
"At the same time you started to get so reckless," I shrugged, a cheeky smile on my face as I pushed myself off of her bed. Bonnie laughed and my twin gave me a dirty look. "Want me to bring my dresses in here? Or did you want to come into my room?"
"You two go ahead," Ellie laughed, shaking her head at me. "I'll grab my vanish set and meet you in there."
"Cool beans," I grabbed Bonnie's hand and pulled her into my room. I sat her down at my dressing table, resting my hands on her shoulders. "Did you manage to find a necklace yet?"
"No, not yet," the witch sighed and I smiled happily. I let go of her shoulders and went over to my necklace tree. I picked one out and hid it behind my back.
"Well, luckily for you, I might have found you something," I held out the necklace. The chain was black, and the centerpiece was decorated with swirls of white and black stones. It was something that would go well with her gold dress.
"Where did you get this?" Bon asked, gently taking the necklace. "It's lovely, thank you."
"Damon took me shopping in Richmond over the weekend," I shrugged, sitting down on my window seat. "And I saw it, and immediately thought of you. You like it then?"
"I love it," Bonnie smiled widely and nodded. "Damon takes you shopping?"
"Well, it was just until dinner. A new Indian restaurant had opened up and we wanted to try it. So we went shopping while we waited."
"You two are getting on well, aren't you?" Bon asked softly and I couldn't stop myself from smiling.
"It's everything that I wanted and more," I replied quietly, biting my lip in an attempt to stop my smile from growing. "He'll never show this to the rest of you, but he's so sweet and caring. And he does everything that he can to make me happy and feel comfortable in our relationship."
"I'm happy for you, Alexa," Bonnie smiled gently and I reached forward to grab her hand.
"Thank you, Bon," I squeezed her hand. "And just you wait, we'll find someone to make you happy too. After Homecoming, we'll go have fun somewhere and find an amazing man for you."
"Are you suggesting that we hit the clubs?" Bonne laughed and I shrugged.
"If my fake ID doesn't work, then Damon can compel us in. We'll take Caroline and Elena too, make it a girl's night out."
The witch shook her head with a smile, "I'll hold you to that."
I laughed, "Just tell Caroline and she'll get everything organized for us."
Bonnie nodded as that was definitely something that our blonde friend would do.

After Bonnie left our house to get ready with Caroline, we returned to the Boarding House to help prepare everything for tonight. Since it was obvious that Klaus would be bringing hybrid back up, Damon had gathered most of his wolfsbane to put into grenades.
I was helping with the actual wolfsbane solution while Elena organized the weapons on the bed, putting together cases and detonators. She had been quiet ever since Bonnie had left. I had no idea what had gotten into her but I let her work through it.
Damon was teaching me how to put together the solution when Ellie sighed, "We can't trust Rebekah not to turn on us."
I rolled my eyes as my vampire snarked, "Oh really? Cos these Original Vampires are usually so reliable."
I snorted at that. It was true. Elijah, as honorable as he was, hadn't exactly told us his plan, line for line. And then he betrayed us all in the end. Klaus was obvious. But I trusted Rebekah. She was my friend, and while she didn't like the idea of Mikael killing Klaus, she was happy to keep out of all of it.
"Bonnie was right," Elena shook her head, ignoring Damon's words. "Rebekah may be mad at Klaus not, but… he is her brother."
"Hey lying, mama-killing, dagger-happy brother," Damon rolled his eyes. "Wolfsbane is ready."
Elena carried in the grenade cases, placing on the towel in the middle of the sinks. Damon hadn't skimped out on the grenades. He wanted to be prepared for every possibility.
"There are too many things that can go wrong with this plan," my sister shook her head, staring into the wolfsbane infused liquid. "Too many people that can make it go wrong."
I exchanged a glance with my vampire before nodding. He was silent for a moment before revealing, "Well, I am formulating a secret contingency plan."
"Really, what is it?" my sister immediately asked, as I knew that she would. Elena was far too predictable at times. She had to know everything, and it often came back to bit her in the butt.
"Well, if I told you, then it wouldn't be a secret," Damon responded with a 'duh' tone. Not even I knew what the contingency plan was. But that was because I told him that he didn't need to tell me. The less people that knew, the safer it was. And I trusted Damon to tell me anything important that would keep me safe.
My twin frowned unhappily and opened her mouth. But before she could make any demands, a new and unwelcome voice rang out.
"I need to borrow a tie," Stefan remarked as he leant against the wall. I groaned as he appeared and immediately turned my back to him. I just wasn't in the mood to deal with the younger vampire's sly little remarks.
"You have your own ties," Damon rolled his eyes as I shuffled closer to him. I started to fill up the cases with the wolfsbane solution. I left the actual putting together of them to Damon. It was some dangerous shit and I wasn't particularly keen on getting blown up.
"Hmm, I'm a 162 years old and I'm going to a Homecoming Dance," Stefan groaned, crossing his arms. "I need better ties."
Elena paused in the middle of filing up a case, her hands resting in the liquid as she snarkily proposed, "You could not go,"
"I'm compelled to protect you," Stefan snorted, shaking his head at her words. "And if I look at your track record at high school dances, it's pretty tragic. With my luck, you'll go and get yourself murdered by the Homecoming Queen…"
"It's only been tragic since you arrived in town!" I shouted after the departing vampire. He didn't acknowledge my words, but they made me feel better. Of course, that feeling didn't last for long. I focused my attention back on my sister only to see her picking up the detonation mechanism and was attaching it to the case. I quickly, but carefully, snatched it from her hands and passed it to Damon.
My sister quickly protested, "I know how to do it! Alaric taught me."
"Pfft, I don't care," I snorted, moving all of the mechanisms away from her and closer to Damon. "Just fill up the cases."
"But Alexa," Ellie tried again only for Damon to speak over her.
"Elena! Remember, if one of these things blow up in our faces, just remember: only one of us heals quickly," he rolled his eyes at my stubborn sister. "And I really don't want your sister's pretty little face to be damaged just because you can't take no for an answer."
I coughed awkwardly, feeling a blush form on my face. Elena frowned at my boyfriend, looking distinctly unhappy. But fortunately, a distraction in the form of Stefan arrived. He sauntered back into the bathroom, a selection of ties in his hand. Apparently he had been raiding Damon's closet looking for some.
"Ah, please tell me that you have a better plan than wolfsbane grenades?" he scoffed, shaking his head. He examined the ties in his hands but he kept glancing over at us.
Damon just smirked, "Never you mind, brother. The less you know, the better."
"My freedom from Klaus rests entirely upon you three executing your plan perfectly," the younger vampire retorted. "So, excuse me if I'm a bit cynical."
"You're excuse," I snorted, before laughing to myself as Stefan gave me a dirty look. It was something that really got under his skin, even before he was forced to switch his humanity off. But he never showed it then, and I loved that I got a reaction now.
"You're the one that we should be worried about," Elena snapped, before taking a deep breath. She let it out slowly before continuing. "If Klaus asks you one wrong question, the whole thing falls apart."
Stefan stared at my sister for a moment before leaning forward, "You do have reason to worry, but if I look back in our history of epic plan failures, it's usually because one of us let our humanity get in the way. Upon taking odds on how this thing goes down, it's certainly not gonna be more who screws it up." He let his words sink in before taking a step back and smirking, "I'll see you at Homecoming. I can't wait."

'don't forget to get Caroline a corsage, she will rage if you don't, and it'll probs be at me'
I placed my phone to the side and sank back into the bubbles. Damon had offered me use of his bathtub ahead of the dance. He had offered to get in with me, but that plan had been ruined by my sister calling him away.
So I enjoyed the warm water by myself for a while. I rested my head against the cool ceramic, holding up my hands to examine my nails. Bonnie had painted them a lovely silver, to make the decorations on my dress.
It was the buzzing of my phone that made me move. I glanced over to see Tyler's name flashing on the screen. I reached out to answer the call, placing him on speakerphone.
"What color dress is Caroline wearing?" Tyler answered, sounding slightly panicked. I couldn't stop myself from laughing. It was mean of me, I know, but it was the high pitch that his voice took when he reached that special level of panic.
"Hot pink," I answered, moving so that my arms were crossed on the edge of the tub. I rested my chin on them, closer to my phone. "Has she not already told you?"
"Nope," Ty grumbled, sounding as though he was in his car. "She's been too busy making sly comments about me being sired."
"Aww, Ty," I cooed in sympathy, the water gently lapping at my skin as I adjusted my legs. "She just doesn't understand. Have you explained it to her? How you really feel?"
"Not yet," he sighed and my heart went out to him. "I just haven't had the chance. She is so against the siring thing that I haven't had a chance to tell her."
It was tough for Tyler. Ever since it was revealed that he was sired, no one really wanted to speak to him. Even Caroline was keeping her distance. Yeah, she interacted with him still, but she mentioned the sire thing far too often.
And it just wasn't fair.
He never asked to be turned into a hybrid. It only happened because he was at the school. Klaus chose him to punish us for our interference in the sacrifice. But one good thing had come out of all of this. He didn't have to turn anymore. Becoming a hybrid had freed him from that. He didn't have to suffer that pain again. I couldn't begrudge him for enjoying that. That was why he accepted the sire bond; it was a small price to pay for being freed from the pain of the transformations.
"I can talk to her, if you want?" I offered, unable to see my friend suffer this by himself. It was something that got him down often, and there were only so many times that I could bake him cinnamon rolls before it got to a point where they just didn't work.
"Thanks, Alex," I could tell that he was attempting to smile, but it definitely didn't come through. "But I get the feeling that she won't listen to anyone about it."
"She is stubborn like that," I agreed with a sigh. "Let me ask Damon more about siring, he might be able to tell us something that we can use to help convince Caroline that you're still you. If that doesn't work, I'll get the wineties on it."
"Is Jenna still hosting her weekly wine club?" Ty laughed and I felt accomplished. He had been laughing less and less recently. He put on a good mask to everyone else, but I was the only one he let his guard down around.
"Yep," I rolled my eyes. "Every Friday night. Andie takes over hosting duties if Jenna can't. Your mom has made a couple of appearances by the way."
"My mom?"
"Yup. Sheriff Forbes too. I think they like talking to people who are in the know, but also accept it. Especially since they have you and Caroline to protect. It's not like they can commiserate on the latest Mystic Falls bullshit with other members of the Council."
"Oh wow. Well, at least they have someone to talk to."
"Easy for you to say, you're not the one who feeds them!" I laughed, shaking my head. "But they've agreed to let me experiment with them. And they can't complain if I get it wrong."
"Oh thank god, you've found someone else to try your dodgy new recipes on!"
I gasped, "You cheeky little shit! That's it, no more cinnamon rolls for you. That's right, I'm putting my foot down!"
"We both know that you won't stick to that," Tyler laughed and I grumbled.
"One day, I will stick to it, and you'll all be surprised."
"I won't hold my breath."
"Oh shove off," I rolled my eyes. Tyler laughed and we exchanged our goodbyes.
After hanging up the phone, I laid back in the water. I made sure to keep my hair out of the water. I had washed it this morning, and I really wasn't in the mood to wash it again. That was the thing with thick hair, it was amazing and lovely. But it was a complete bitch to dry after you've washed it.
I wondered what I could do to make things easier for Tyler. I desperately wanted to speak to Caroline for him, but I didn't want to do it without his blessing. So I sent a quick text to Jenna, asking her and her girls to look into it.
And that was all that I could do. I sighed, splashing some water over my shoulders. I hated seeing Tyler go through this. Which was another reason why I wanted Klaus dead. He did this to Tyler, for no good reason. And he needed to pay for that. Maybe that would convince Caroline that Ty was really on our side, if he helped us take down Klaus. But we had to be careful, we didn't know how far the sire bond extended. But it was an option, and one that we had to explore.

Elena's POV
I made my way up to Stefan's room. Despite having taken over a room of her own in the Boarding House, Rebekah liked spending time up there. Maybe it was because that, unlike most of the guest rooms, Stefan's room actually felt lived in. It had that personal touch. And after spending so many years on the run, it was something that Rebekah probably craved.
When I reached the top of the stairs, I saw that the Original had already started getting ready. She was in her dress, the red one that Alexa picked, and standing in front of the mirror. Her makeup was done, as was her hair.
"Getting a head start, huh?" I asked, leaning against the doorframe. Rebekah met my eyes in the mirror, a small smile forming on her face. I could see why my sister was so fond of her. The blonde looked sweet when she smiled like that.
"Embarrassing truth? This is my first high school dance," Rebekah revealed, smoothing down the skirt of her dress.
My eyes widened in shock, "Ever?"
I knew that they spent a lot of time running, but I thought that she would have been to at least one in her long life. Even if it was just to feed.
"I never really had time for high school before," she shrugged as I walked further into the room. "Nik and I were always moving around, running." She cleared her throat, "Anyway, I didn't want to leave anything to chance. Have you heard anymore from him?"
"No," I shook my head. "But I'm sure that when he does return, he'll do it with flair."
Klaus did everything with flair. He was incredibly dramatic, which was something that we should be able to use to our advantage.
"And Damon and my father are all set with their plan?" the blonde asked, turning around to face me. I made sure to keep my body facing her straight on, hiding my back pocket. It felt like the dagger was burning a hole there. But I had to do this. No matter how much my sister adored the Original, no matter how sweet she seemed, I couldn't take any chances that this plan would go wrong. And I definitely couldn't let anything happen that would put my sister in danger.
I nodded, "Yes."
But before I could elaborate further, Rebekah held up her hand, "Don't tell me. I don't want to know, I just… I want to go to the dance and leave the rest to Mikael."
I felt myself feeling sorry for her, and I wondered if my plan was the right one. But I had to do this. It was clear that Rebekah didn't want this to happen. And while she wasn't interfering now, that might not be the case later, when she sees her brother in danger.
"I know it's really hard," I said softly, keeping my voice gentle. "So thank you for helping us get Klaus back into town."
"Just be careful," Rebekah warned me quietly, stepping forward so that she was right in front of me. "I've been running for a thousand years for a reason. Mikael is not a good person and he definitely can't be trusted. No one in my family can."
The blonde started to tear up while she spoke. I wanted to reach out to comfort her, I hated seeing people cry in front of me. But I couldn't risk her seeing the dagger. Maybe being taken out before this happens would be a good thing for her. She wouldn't have to see this happen. I wanted to spare her that pain, if I could.
"Are you okay?" I frowned, as Rebekah took a deep breath.
"I've spent my whole life loving and hating my brother with equal measure," her voice was shaky as she spoke. "I never thought that I'd be the one to help drive a stake through his heart." She shook her head, her blonde hair brushing her bare shoulders. "No tears, I don't want to ruin my makeup. Alexa's already helped me with it once, I don't want to inconvenience her again." The Original turned back around to face the mirror, smoothing out her dress again. I watched as she carefully checked her makeup, making sure that it wasn't ruined. "How do I look?"
"You look amazing," I nodded, smiling softly at the pleased look on the Original's face. "But you're missing one thing."
Rebekah frowned as I carefully pulled something out of my other pocket. It was difficult giving it away, even for my plan, but it needed to be done. And after everything that I had experienced with Stefan since that night at the school, I didn't know if I still wanted it. Even if I saved him from this, it would take some time for us to return to where we were before he left at the beginning of the summer.
"My mother's necklace," the blonde breathed, staring at the pendant dangling from my hand.
"You should wear it tonight. May I?" I offered, holding up the necklace. Rebekah nodded, moving her to the side. I carefully stood behind her and placed the necklace around her neck. I clasped it and stepped back.
Rebekah adjusted her hair, smoothing it back into place, before smiling, her gaze fixed on the necklace, "Thank you."
I nodded, carefully slipping the dagger out of my pocket. I held the handle firmly as I rested my hand on her shoulder. Rebekah's eyes met mine the mirror just moments before I drove the dagger into her back. She let out a gasp as it struck her heart, a betrayed look on her face.
Rebekah's skin started to turn grey, and I shook my head, "I'm so sorry. I can't leave anything to chance either. And I have to protect my sister."
I stepped back as her body fell to the floor. I couldn't take my eyes off of the dagger sticking out of her back, her betrayed expression stuck in my mind. I didn't want to do this but it had to be done. Even if I hated myself for doing it.
XXX
I called Damon up to Stefan's room to help me hide Rebekah's body. I couldn't let Alexa find out that this had happened. Not only did she care for Rebekah, I couldn't risk Klaus compelling the information out of her. While Klaus had a habit of daggering his siblings, we didn't know how he would react once he found out that someone else had done it too.
Damon had grumbled at first, muttering something that I couldn't quite hear. But once he had taken one look at the body, he sighed and disappeared back downstairs to get a blanket. Alexa didn't tend to come upstairs to Stefan's room, so we could get away with covering the body with a blanket until we were able to move it down to the basement. Her body would be safe there, no one would think to check the basement cell for Rebekah, and I knew that my sister didn't like going down there by herself, unless she was forced to. She had never told me why, but she had alluded to a traumatic experience the first time that she went down there.
I sat on the bed; my knees pressed against my chest while Damon covered Rebekah's body. He whistled and shook his head, "In the back! Harsh!"
"It had to be done," I said dully, repeating what I had been telling myself ever since I drove that dagger into her heart. "Rebekah was never gonna be completely on our side."
"Hey, I'm not judging you," Damon shrugged as he stood up. "It's very 'Katherine' of you."
That was not a nice thing to hear. It made me feel a bit sick, being compared to Katherine. After all of the people that she hurt and killed and betrayed, being compared her to was awful. I never wanted to be like Katherine, she was cruel and petty and not a good person. She deliberately ripped the brother's apart and I swore that I would never be like her. It was lucky that Damon had fallen for my twin, otherwise I would be put in a difficult position. Now I was just friends with the older brother, and it would remain that way.
"Not the way to make me feel better about myself, Damon," I narrowed my eyes at the vampire. He did have the decency to wince as he shrugged.
"It was a compliment. Sort of…" he trailed off as he sat down next to me on the bed.
"Stefan's right," I sighed, shaking my head. "Someone's gonna let their humanity get in the way and screw this whole thing up. It's probably gonna be me."
There wasn't even a possibility that it would be my sister. Alexa's been gunning for Klaus ever since she first heard about the sacrifice. And now that he needs my blood to make hybrids, she has an even bigger reason to want him dead. Alexa wasn't one to hesitate to take that final step when it came to protecting the ones she loved.
"Elena, you just daggered somebody," Damon raised an eyebrow as he looked at me. "You will be fine."
"Yeah, but I feel bad about it," I protested, not wanting to accept his comforting words. "I care too much, that's the problem, Damon. I'm the weak link. I can't focus on my anger, like my sister does, I let my emotions get in the way."
"If it makes you feel any better, she's not really dead," the vampire offered, looking down at the covered body. I refused to look at her. It made it even more real, and I just needed to focus on that.
"It doesn't really," I sighed. "You won't tell Alexa, will you? I want to protect her from this."
Damon hesitated before reluctantly agreeing, "I don't like keeping things from her. But I won't tell her what you did. Not now, anyway."
I knew that that would be the best I would get. It was sweet, how he wanted to be open with my sister. But it was inconvenient at times. When it came to those she cared about, Alexa did have a tendency to be irrational. It was helpful at times, like when we wanted to take out Klaus and she would do everything in her power to do that. But I knew that she wouldn't be happy with what I did to Rebekah.
"Thank you," I nodded with a small smile before asking, "Do you trust him? Mikael?"
He immediately shook his head, "No."
"What about Stefan?"
Damon snorted, "No. not as long as he is under Klaus' control."
I sighed, expecting that to be his answer. I knew that we needed them, but if we couldn't trust them, how could we make sure that the plan was successful? I couldn't leave anything to chance, as proven by what I did to Rebekah. This wasn't just about taking out Klaus, and removing his influence from our lives. It was about protecting my sister too. She would be at the Homecoming Dance. And I had to make sure that she wouldn't be hurt if something went wrong.
"Then we need a better plan."
"I know what to do," Damon sighed quietly. "You're just not gonna like it."
I frowned, "Why not?"
"Because when this all goes down, I don't want you having any part of it," the vampire said seriously. "I can't keep Alexa out of all of this, but I can keep you safe for her."
"What does that mean?" I asked slowly, looking hard at the vampire.
He hesitated before asking, "Do you trust me?"
I was silent for a moment. I did trust him, and even more importantly, I trusted him to do right by Alexa. It was just hard to admit. I had spent so long refusing to see his good side, to see how good he was for my sister.
"Yes," I eventually nodded and he relaxed slightly next to me.
"Then you have nothing to worry about."

Alexa's POV
I stayed in the bath until the water started to cool down and bubbles started to disappear. I was tempted to add more hot water, but I knew that I would have to start getting ready for the dance soon. And I was getting pruney. That was the downsides to baths, you could just spend so much time in them. But it was nice, when you have showers most of the time, to just enjoy being enveloped in that warm water.
I reluctantly pulled the plug, allowing the water to start to drain, before standing up. I climbed out of the tub, shivering slightly in the cool air. But before I could grab one of the giant, fluffy white towels, a voice remarked from behind, "Hmm, I do love this view."
I laughed and turned around, resting a hand on my hip, "I wondered when you would return. What did Elena want?"
Damon shook his head as he approached, "You really don't want to know."
I would have asked more, but there was a predatory air to Damon's movements. He moved slowly but surely, approaching me. His eyes scanned my wet body and my body suddenly felt hot again. My skin flushed and felt myself getting aroused. I clenched my thighs together, drawing Damon's gaze. The next thing I knew, he was standing right in front of me. My breasts brushed his chest with every breath, the slightly coarse fabric teasing my nipples.
His hands landed on my hips as he leant down for a kiss. I gripped onto his top as he practically devoured me, his fingers digging into my ass. He soon moved onto my neck, nibbling on the sensitive skin. I hung my head back, giving him more access as I fumbled with his belt. Once I got it off, I quickly threw it to the floor, turning my attention to unzipping his pants.
"Bed, now," I gasped, tugging on his jeans. Damon nodded, pulling away far enough that he could pull his top over his head. He quickly shrugged off his jeans and boxers before picking me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he carried me over to his bed.
Damon sat down on the edge of the bed, settling me on his lap. I could feel his erection against my stomach as he returned his attention to my neck. I reached down to grab his cock, wrapping my fingers around him and slowly moving my hand up and down. Every now and then, my thumb brushed against the tip. Each time it did, Damon's breath hitched. But it didn't take me long to get impatient.
I pushed Damon back, so he was laying on the bed, and lifted my hips. Using my grip on his cock, I carefully lowered myself onto him. I easily slid all the way down, so he was filling me completely. I let out a low moan at the feeling, grinding my hips down against his.
Damon's hands gripped my hips as I slowly moved up and down, enjoying the feeling of being so full. He let me control the pace, content to watch me through mesmerized eyes. I alternated between bouncing and grinding, whispering my boyfriend's name as each movement brushed against my sensitive spot.
My eyes fluttered closed as his thumb settled on my clit, rubbing it in time with my movements. I whimpered at the heightened sensation, my speed increasing. I was chasing that pleasure, feeling the tension in my stomach tightened. Damon's breaths came out in low grunts as he grew closer too. I could feel him twitch inside of me, showing that he was close.
With just a slight increase of pressure on my clit, I feel over the edge. My hips stuttered in their movements, as I came, moaning out Damon's name. His grip on my hips kept me moving, stimulating him long enough for him to come too. I slumped forward onto his chest and Damon pressed a kiss to the top of my head.
One of his hands came to settle on my ass while the other stroked up and down my spine. He gave me the time to catch my breath, only moving when I shivered in the cool air. He disappeared to grab me one of his shirts, carefully pulling it over my head. He then settled back against the pillows, me tucked between his legs.
"Day, I've got to go get ready," I mumbled against his chest, but I didn't try to get up. I was comfortable in his arms, and I didn't really want to move, even if I really did have to go get ready.
"Hmm, you've got plenty of time," Damon hushed me and I gave in far too easily. I shifted so that I was resting on my stomach, wrapping my arms around his chest. My head settled over his heart as I tangled my legs with his. Damon's hand rested on my ass while the other rested on my back.
"If I get there late, then I'll tell Caroline to yell at you."
Damon laughed softly, "Deal. I wish I could convince you not to go."
"I know," I sighed, feeling Damon rest his cheek on the top of my head. "But if I'm not there, then Klaus will get suspicious. And then we might lose our chance. Besides, I'll have my ring."
"He could take your ring off. But there is another way that I can guarantee that you'll come back to me."
"What's that?" I frowned lightly, shifting my head so I could glance up at my vampire's face.
"I could give you my blood," Damon's face was expressionless, but his eyes showed his hesitance. We hadn't discussed this part of our future, instead taking each day as it came. But it was a discussion that we would eventually have to have.
I could feel his eyes studying my face as I thought. I wasn't opposed to the idea like my sister was, and I had thought about it. I guess I was just embarrassed and ashamed about what my feelings were towards it. Everyone who I knew that was a vampire, wasn't this way by choice and they hated it. But… I wasn't opposed to the idea of turning. Not right now, but down the line, yeah I would.
I shifted so that I was sitting on his lap again and I was able to look him in the eye. I took a deep breath and nodded, "Let's do it."
Damon raised an eyebrow in surprise, "Really?"
I shrugged and cleared my throat, glancing away, "I have been thinking about it. And I'm not opposed to the idea of turning, not really. I don't want to do it right now, and after graduation would be the earliest time that I would consider it. But… eternity with you has a nice sound to it."
Damon gave me one of the happiest smiles that I had ever seen from him, and it warmed my heart. And I didn't regret what I had revealed for second.
XXX
Damon had made me late for the party, as he had insisted on round two of sex after my little revelation. But I couldn't begrudge him his happiness. I knew that it had hurt Stefan when Elena had been adamant about not wanting to turn, and it was almost definitely something that Damon had been thinking about. But I wasn't my sister. She knew what she wanted, she wanted to become a doctor, have a couple of kids and settle into a normal life. That wasn't what I wanted. I loved kids, but I didn't really want any myself.
I almost gave up on getting ready and attending the party. But I knew that Caroline would kill me if I skipped it. I gave up on curling my hair and focused on my makeup instead. Despite Damon's attempts at distracting me and luring me back into bed, I managed to achieve the smokey-eyed look that I was aiming for. It went well with the navy-blue dress that I had chosen. It fluttered around my thighs, exposing enough leg that Damon teased me. The illusion neckline showed off my boobs without looking too scandalous. The neckline, sleeves and belt were decorated with silver and black beads.
I slipped on my rings and bracelet to complete the look. Due to the neckline, I couldn't wear my usual vervain locket. So I improvised with a charm in my earring. I could still taste the iron tang of Damon's blood on the back of my tongue. But I knew that I would be protected, no matter what happened.
The taxi pulled up outside of the Lockwood Manor. Somehow the gym had flooded, ruining everything, so the dance had to be relocated. Tyler had offered his home and it was somehow ready for a party. I knew that Mrs Lockwood was always ready for a party, but this was level of prepared that just felt suspicious.
I smoothed down the skirt of my dress as I stared up at the manor. Music filled the air and it sounded as though there was an honest to God band out back. There were a lot of people milling around, many of whom I didn't recognize. I knew that I didn't know everyone in our year, but I thought that I knew more people than this.
I pushed my way through the crowd to the balcony overlooking the back garden. I was right, there was a band out there. The party atmosphere was insane, and if I knew that Homecoming was like this, I wouldn't have skipped the previous ones. It actually looked like it was going to be a good time. If, you know, we weren't planning on killing Klaus.
Speaking of, I saw him through the crowd, speaking to a group of people. I didn't recognize any of them, and that made me nervous. I knew that Bonnie and Caroline were already here. But Elene and Rebekah were due to arrive soon.
"Alexa, you made it!" I glanced around to see Caroline joining me. She looked over the partying teens, looking a bit put out. I couldn't help but wonder if she was jealous of the party. I mean, she took a lot of pride in being the organizer in our group, so seeing this amazing party must really be getting under her skin.
"You didn't really give me much of a choice," I laughed, giving my friend a hug. "Where are the others?"
"Bonnie's mingling with some of the people that we actually know. The rest are on their way. Did you know that Matt was bringing Rebekah? Why would Elena even allow that?"
"He is? Aww that's so cute," judging from the dirty look on Caroline's face, my response was not approved of. I didn't see what her issue was. If Matt liked Rebekah, then he should be allowed to bring her to a dance. Rebekah deserved to be happy, and Matt was one of the loveliest and kindest and nicest people that I had ever met. He would be good for her. As she gave me a dirty look, I cleared my throat, "I mean, oh no, how dare she take advantage of our dear, sweet Matthew."
Care rolled her eyes at me, "You're the worst."
"Love you too," I laughed, nudging her with my elbow. "So you don't recognize many of these people either?"
"No," the blonde shook her head and I sighed. "Which makes me think that Klaus brought them along with him."
"That's what I was worried about," I scrunched up my nose in annoyance. "Well, that sucks."
"Is everything place?" Caroline asked quietly, glancing around.
"So I've been told," I shrugged, content that Care would let me know of any eavesdroppers. "I told them not to give me too many details, just in case. I don't want to be the one that ruins it all."
Caroline nodded, "I did the same. I don't want to know more than I have to, especially if Tyler asks me anything."
I paused for a moment before saying slowly, "Just… be patient with Tyler. He's having more trouble with this sire thing than he's letting on. He'll explain everything, but you know Ty, it takes a bit of prompting sometimes."
"Has he talked to you about it?"
"Well, I kinda bribed him with cinnamon rolls," I shrugged. "So he didn't really have much of a choice. But do me a favor, don't tell him that I spoke to you, please? He asked me not to, but I just wanna help him."
"I won't tell him" Caroline reassured me softly. "And thank you for talking to him."
"Don't mention it," I smiled. "Keeping you lot happy makes me happy."
"You take on too much sometimes, Alexa."
"Well, if it helps, I normally express my feelings through baking. Which makes me feel better and I love doing it."
"Your food is full of love," Caroline laughed, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
"Damn straight it is."

Caroline was soon summoned away by other members of the cheer-squad. I reassured her that I was fine and stayed by the edge of the balcony. I sipped at my beer bottle, enjoying the music. It was a good band, not one that I would have expected Tyler to choose.
"Hey Alexa," Tyler smiled at me as he settled next to me. He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me into his side.
"Hi Ty," I smiled back at him, enjoying the hug. It was slightly weird though. Tyler had always ran hotter than others, and now, because he was a hybrid, he was a lot cooler than he used to be. It would take a bit of getting used to. "I see you managed to get Caroline a corsage."
"Yeah, thanks for that," Tyler shook his head. "I can't believe I forgot to get one."
I laughed, "It's cool, bro. I've got your back. You've had a lot on your mind. You're luck though, cos I know for a fact that Matt would have gotten his date one. Who, by the way, is apparently Rebekah."
"Rebekah?" Tyler sounded surprised. "But he arrived with Elena."
"Elena? Caroline told me that he was coming with Rebekah. She was in a proper snit about it," I frowned, wondering what had happened. "Have you seen my sister?"
"She's inside somewhere."
Huh, strange. Normally, if we arrived at a party separately, the first thing my sister did was come and find me. But Elena had been here long enough for Tyler to notice her, and she hadn't tracked me down yet.
"Fair enough," I shrugged, putting the thought to the side. Elena would come find me when she was ready. Maybe she was appeasing Caroline by spending time with Matt. "This is a cool party, by the way. How did you manage to organize it so quickly?"
Tyler cleared his throat nervously and glanced away, "It was actually Klaus who put it together. He said that it was a wake for his father. I didn't really press for more information."
"Huh, that is kinda impressive," I glanced around. "And that would explain why I don't know half the people here."
"I don't know them all either. But I do know that quite a few of them are hybrids."
"Oh dang," I whispered. We suspected that Klaus would bring hybrid backup. But it was insane that he had made this many in such a short amount of time. It took him ages to find werewolves the first time around. How had he found so many so quickly? "That's not good. They're all sired, aren't they?"
Tyler's silence was enough of an answer. Well, that was a bit fucked. But at least it was proof that all hybrids were sired, and it wasn't just Tyler who was dealing with that. I opened my mouth to ask another question but was quickly interrupted.
"Alexa, you made it," Stefan smirked as he stood on my other side. I rolled my eyes and moved away from Tyler.
"Stefan, so did you. What a shame. I was hoping that you had been ripped apart by an angry squirrel on your way here," I sneered, pointedly looking away from the vampire. I heard Tyler clear his throat next to me. Whether it was because I was back chatting Klaus' bestie or because it wasn't a clever idea, I didn't know.
"Ah Alexa, you have such a vivid imagination," he forced out through gritted teeth, a fake smile on his face.
"You'll see how creative I can be soon enough, Stef," I shrugged, narrowing my eyes. "And I can guarantee that you won't like it."
"Alex, don't push him," Tyler spoke quietly, giving Stefan a nervous look.
"Why?" I pouted up at him. "Cos he's one of Klaus' favourite pets?"
"No, because I don't want you to get hurt by accident," my hybrid had kept a hand on my shoulder. Almost as though he was indicating that he would protect me from the vampire. Which was weird, since he was sired to Klaus, and Stefan was carrying out Klaus' bidding.
But Stefan's next words quickly distracted me, "You should listen to Tyler. Because you are getting on my last nerve."
I scoffed, "You won't hurt me. Klaus needs me to 'carry on the bloodline'. And besides, you know that Damon will rip you apart if you try anything."
"I'm not scared of my brother," Stefan smirked and I shrugged.
"If you insist," I smiled widely at the dirty look the vampire shot me. "You should probably go find your hybrid master. He might need help wiping his ass."
Stefan glared at me, taking a step forward. But he paused when Tyler eased me behind him. While the vampire had him beaten on strength, it would take just one bite from the hybrid to fuck him up. And Stefan wasn't irrational enough to risk dying from it.
So he gave me a dirty look before slinking away.
"Alexa, you really shouldn't have done that," Tyler sighed, shaking his head at me. But I could see the smile that he was fighting to hide.
"Eh, he had it coming," I shrugged, leaning back against the stone balcony. "He's been pushing my buttons for ages. Besides, he's been upsetting my sister. I can't let him get away with that."
"Of course you can't," Ty rolled his eyes.
"Anyways, everyone gives you shit for being sired. But barely anyone does the same for Stefan. And he's even more of Klaus' bitch."
"But Stefan can be 'fixed'," Tyler sighed and I grabbed his hand.
"Hey, you don't need fixing. People just need to accept that you can't control this. And I'll do everything that I can to convince everyone else of that."
Tyler, my dear sweet Tyler, gave me a small smile, "Thank you, Alexa."
"You're welcome," I went up on tip-toes to press a kiss to his cheek. "I love you, bro."
"Love you too, sis."

It didn't long for the most unwelcome party guest to approach me. I was quite happy just chilling up above, just watching everyone party. But apparently I looked too happy, as Klaus felt the need to ruin my mood.
"Where's your date?" the Original hybrid asked as he stepped up next to me. I turned so that I was facing him. I was reluctant to let him out of my sight when he was so close to me.
"Looking to make a dramatic entrance," I sniffed, taking a small step back. I was hoping that Klaus wouldn't notice but from the small smirk on his lips, he had.
"Well, we can't have a lovely thing like you standing alone at a party," he leant back against the stone railing behind him. "Care to join me for a drink?"
He held out the beer bottle that he had been drinking from. I looked down at it in distaste before rolling my eyes, "I would rather die. And since I know what that feels like, you should take the hint and leave me alone."
"I just wanted to thank you for taking out Mikael," Klaus' sharp eyes scanned my face. I didn't know what he was searching for, but I wouldn't be the one to give the game away.
"He went after my sister," I held his gaze, keeping my tone serious. "There wasn't much else that I could do. I reacted on instinct."
"Still, I'm impressed," he shrugged, holding his beer bottle up to his lips. "It's not easy for a human to dagger an Original."
I narrowed my eyes, "I've had practice. So remember that before you piss me off, mate."
I horribly butchered his accent and I could tell that it annoyed him from the way his eye twitched. But he didn't otherwise react. I didn't know what he wanted from me, but he wasn't showing much interest in stopping me from mouthing off to him.
"Right, Elijah," he nodded, his eyes studying my face. "You seem nervous."
I snorted, "Why would I be nervous? You ain't anything to be nervous about. I'm just having trouble hiding my loathing of you."
"Let's get straight to the point then, shall I, love?" Klaus placed the beer bottle to the side and leant in close. I wanted to back away, but his gaze froze me in place. That hidden instinct screamed at me to run, but I just couldn't. "People have been after me for 1000 years. And I am always one step ahead. So whatever it is that you're thinking of trying, go for it, give it your best shot. You won't succeed."
"You sound incredibly sure of that," I forced out, hating the way my voice shook slightly. I hated how much he was able to get under my skin and scare me. I had hurt him; I had fought back. So why was I still so scared of him? No one else was.
"Oh, I am," he smirked, leaning in closer. "See, you're all controlled by your anger and your rage. You're incapable of taking that step back. Which is why you'll always lose."
"Is that why you killed your mom?" I asked quietly, unable to stop the words from forming. "Because you were being controlled by your anger?"
Surprise flashed across the hybrid's face before he put his mask back on, "Ah, you seem to know more of my dirty little secrets than I expected. "Who told you about that, love?"
"The ancient inhabitants of Mystic Falls," I kept my answer vague. Letting Klaus find the cave probably wouldn't be the best idea. Even if he couldn't get in it, he could stop others from getting in there.
"Hmm, interesting. Did they have any other secrets to share?"
"None that I'll tell you," I retorted before taking a step back. "I'm going to go find someone that I actually want to talk to. I hope you choke on your beer."
Before I could take more than a step away, Klaus grabbed my wrist. He tugged me closer and whispered in my ear, "You'd be smart to tell Damon to mind his manners tonight, because if I die, I've already ensured that he'll die along with me. Even in death, my hybrids have their orders. So, you kill me, you're killing me too."
I froze where I stood, staring up at the hybrid with wide eyes. He smirked down at me and patted my cheek, "Have a nice evening."
I watched him leave, my heart squeezing my chest. I couldn't breathe, but I couldn't fall apart. I needed to warn Damon. He had to know what Klaus had done. I couldn't risk anything happening to him. I would even let Klaus survive the night if it meant that I didn't lose Damon.
I pushed my way through the crowd, looking for somewhere private to call my vampire. But before I could head upstairs, a firm hand gripped my arm. I was pulled into a bathroom, the door slamming shut behind me. I was pinned back against the door by the most unlikely person.
"Katherine?" I gasped, staring at my sister's doppelganger. She was dressed to impress and I couldn't help but wonder why she was here. Did anyone else know that she was here? Did Elena know that she was here? I hope Katherine hadn't done anything to her. "What are you doing here?"
"Not important," she shook her head before there was a sharp pain in my ear. She placed my earring to the side and caught my gaze. It took me far too long to realise that I should look away, and by that time, it was too late. "You are going to forget Klaus' threat against Damon. He spoke to you, you mouthed off, and he made vague threats about the plan not working. Do you understand?"
"I understand," I repeated numbly.
"Good, now forget that I was here too."
I nodded and blinked.
Why was I in the bathroom?

Damon's POV
Ironically, the first person that I spotted when I entered the Lockwood Mansion was the baby hybrid. As he stepped off the bottom step, I grabbed him by the arm. I forced him through the crowd and into the empty study. None of the partying teens had found their way into here. And I was determined to keep it that way.
I locked the door behind me before turning to face Tyler, "As the host, you should know that these hybrids don't make the best first impression."
The kid brushed away my words, "Whatever move you're making, Klaus is gonna be ready for you. He'll kill anyone at this party if he has to. I've got Matt getting Caroline out of here. You need to do the same for Alexa."
I paused, "Does he know that something is happened?"
Tyler nodded, "He doesn't know what, but he suspects. So please tell me that you have a weapon to use against him."
I debated whether I should show the baby hybrid the stake that was sitting in my coat pocket. But I knew that he would do anything to risk Alexa getting hurt. He was an inconvenient little shit, and I wasn't the most fond of time at times, but he loved my girl. And he wouldn't do anything to hurt her.
I held my coat open, revealing the tip of the stake, and held my finger to my lips. If there were hybrids outside, then there were bound to be some inside. If Klaus had managed to get a party arranged here, it wasn't beyond belief that he had compelled Carol into inviting some of his minions inside.
"Thank god," Tyler sighed before shrugging off his jacket. "You need to take me out of the equation too. He's ordered the other hybrids to attack if he's in danger, but I don't know how much of that would extend to me. And I don't want to hurt anyone that I care about."
I raised an eyebrow and warned, "This won't be pleasant."
The kid surprised me when he just shook his head, "I don't care. I don't want to hurt anyone."
He was impressing me. The punk had changed a lot since I first arrived in town. I wondered how much of it was because of the werewolf curse. I knew that it had had a significant impact on him. Alexa had talked a lot about the transformations and what it had done to her honorary brother. But even with the sire bond, he was looking to protect his loved ones. Maybe he wasn't completely lost to it.
"I'll leave your body in here," I said, stepping forward. "No one will think to look in here and if any of the hybrids find you, then it won't look as suspicious."
Tyler nodded before taking a deep breath and closing his eyes. I was impressed with the kid, which is why I would do it quickly. I blurred forward and snapped his neck. Tyler's body crumpled and I directed him to fall onto the sofa. After the sacrifice he had made, it would be a dick move for me to let him fall on the floor.
"Damon, what did you do?!" a voice hissed behind me. I turned to see Bonnie walking in through the glass doors. Her eyes were fixed on the hybrid take a timeout.
"What? He wanted me to," I rolled my eyes at her, adjusting my coat. "He didn't want to hurt anyone."
The judgy little witch paused, considering my words. She knew Tyler better than I did and she would know if it was something that he would do. Eventually, she nodded slowly, "Will he be alright?"
"He'll be fine," I shrugged. "He'll wake up when all of this is over and won't have anything to worry about."
Bonnie nodded before asking, "Do you have the…?" She trailed off as I held a finger to my lips. I opened my jacket, showing the witch the stake. She stared at it with wide eyes. "Why do you have it?"
"I'm the only one who can get inside the house," I replied, glancing around. "Klaus was clever to change the venue here and compel Carol away. He hasn't been outside for a while, so the only way for this to work is to either draw him outside or do it myself."
"What do you need me to do?" Bonnie asked, taking a deep breath.
"Get Alexa out of here," I replied seriously. "I don't want her anywhere near any of this. She's done her part and now she can get to safety."
The witch went to nod before pausing, "I haven't seen her for a while. Not since Klaus spoke to her."
"What did he say to her?" I asked urgently, stepping close to the witch. I reached out to grab her shoulders, keeping her focused. Bonnie looked like she was deep in thought.
"I don't know, but she looked freaked out afterwards," the witch revealed. "She came inside the house, but I haven't seen her since then. She might have gone upstairs."
I nodded, "Find her and then get the both of you out of here. I'll take care of everyone else."
"What about Caroline, Matt and Elena?" Bonnie asked, refusing to move.
"Matt is getting Caroline out, Tyler managed to sort that before I found him. As for Elena, don't worry, she's safe and out of harms way. Now please, get my girl out of here."
Bonnie's face softened slightly at my words. I knew that Alexa was the more expressive one in our relationship, and that's what her friends saw. But now hopefully Bonnie was seeing just how much I cared for my girl.
The witch nodded and retreated from the room. I took a deep breath and nodded. Now was the time to get Klaus out of our lives for good. We could get Stefan back, keep Elena safe and Alexa wouldn't be in danger either.

Alexa's POV
When I exited the bathroom, I saw that everyone was being moved outside. I dodged behind the door, and waited for everyone to disappear from sight. I had no idea what was happening, but I didn't want to be found. It was safer investigating when everyone was gone.
Once it looked clear, I slipped off my heels and slowly crept down the hallway. When I reached the main hall, I peered around the corner. Klaus stood at the front door, Mikael in front of him. From the look of it, Daddy Original was stuck outside.
"Hello Niklaus," Mikael greeted his sound, a disdainful tone to his voice.
"Hello Mikael," Klaus returned, sounding far too confident. "Why don't you come in? Oh, that's right. I forgot you can't."
Well, I was right about that. No wonder he sounded so cocky; he was untouchable for the moment. Well, to anyone who wasn't invited in. But I was willing to be that there was a backup plan to deal with this.
"Or you can come outside if you want," Mikael offered and it felt like we all knew that Klaus wouldn't accept that offer. The hybrid was many things, but he wasn't stupid.
As was shown when he smirked, "Or I could watch my hybrids tear you limb from limb."
The older Original glanced over at his shoulder before shrugging in disinterest, "They can't kill me."
"True," Klaus acknowledged, holding up his hand and pressing two fingers together. "But it'll make a hell of a party game. All I have to do is rub these two fingers together and they'll pounce."
"The big bad wolf," Mikael jeered, and I saw the Original hybrid's body tense slightly. "You haven't changed. Still hiding behind your playthings like a coward. You only forget. They may be sired by you, but they're still part vampire. And they can be compelled by me."
A female hybrid stepped up to the doorway, pulling someone familiar with her. My heart froze in my chest as I caught sight of a familiar face. Why did she have my sister? What was happening?
"Come out and face me, Niklaus," Mikael commanded, taking charge of my sister. "Or she dies."
At the threat to my sister, I lost all sense. I dropped my shoes to the side and ran forward, "Elena!"
But before I could reach the doorway, a strong hand grabbed my arm. I was pulled backwards, against a firm chest. Klaus held me with an iron grip, one arm pressed against my stomach while the other was just below my neck. But it wasn't that that had me freezing where I stood. It was the sight in front of me.
It wasn't Elena.
It was Katherine who stood in front of me. She locked eyes with me as I breathed out my sister's name. Why was Katherine here? Was she here to protect Elena? Was this the contingency plan?
"Go ahead. Kill her," Klaus didn't sound as unbothered as he probably wanted to. "I still have some of her blood, and I have this one to carry on the bloodline."
Did no one else realise that this was Katherine? Were they that blind? But I probably shouldn't complain, this was keeping my sister safe. Because I honestly didn't know if Mikael would have killed my sister if she was really here.
"No, Klaus," Katherine was an amazing actress, as she genuinely sounded scared. "He'll do it."
"If she dies, this lot will be the last of your abominations for a long time," Mikael threatened, shaking my sister's doppelganger. I reached up to grip the arm that was near my neck. I didn't know what to think about what was happening. So it was probably a good thing that I didn't need to speak up. Mikael's cold eyes glanced down at me, "And you won't have much longer with this one."
Uhhh, what the fuck did that mean? Was I dying and I didn't realise? No one seemed interested in Mikael's words, other than me. So I filed them away, for me to think about another time.
"I don't need them," the hybrid ground out, his body tense behind me. "I just need to be rid of you."
"To what end, Niklaus?" the Original Father snapped, and even I flinched. "So you can live forever, with no one at your side? Nobody cares about you anymore, body! What do you have other than those whose loyalty you forced? No one. No one."
Oh wow, I was genuinely feeling sorry for Klaus. I suspected that Mikael was a dick, but not to this extent. Not to the extent where I actually felt bad for the hybrid holding me. Mikael just needed to kill him, he didn't need to hurt him like this. Was this the reason why Klaus grew up as he did? Because his dad didn't love him and was a complete ass?
"I'm calling your bluff, father," Klaus spoke, his voice thick with tears. I glanced up as something wet fell on my shoulder. He was crying, he was actually crying. "Kill her."
Was it bad that I just wanted to comfort him? I hated seeing people cry, and that apparently extended to Klaus too.
"Come outside and face me, you little coward," Mikael sneered at his step-son, tightening his grip on Katherine. "And I won't have to."
She was staring between the two Original's a calculating look in her eye, even as she looked scared. But I knew the truth. And it was probably one of the only things keeping the both of us alive.
"My whole life you've underestimated me," the hybrid glared at his step-dad, even as his eyes shone with tears. "If you kill her, you lose your leverage. And I won't let this one go. So go ahead. Go on kill her." Mikael stared at Klaus, which made him snap louder, "Come on, old man. Kill her. Kill her!"
It was silent for a moment before Mikael laughed, the sound sending chills down my spine, "Your impulse, Niklaus. It has and will forever be the one thing that keeps you from truly being great."
And in a move that we probably should have expected, the older Original stabbed Katherine in the side with a dagger. She gasped in shock before Mikael let her body fall to the floor. I froze where I stood. Even though I knew that it wasn't my sister, she still looked like her. And it was hard for me to watch.
Klaus released his grip on me in shock, and I staggered forward a step. Mikael laughed at the look on his son's face. I was dangerously close to the doorway, to being used as the next potential hostage, when it happened.
There was a whoosh and a grunt behind me. I turned around to see Klaus on the ground, Damon crouching over him. And sticking out of the hybrid's stomach, was a white stake. That must be the White Oak stake that Mikael had. He must have given it to Damon.
My head shot back around when Mikael gasped, "Katherine."
The doppelganger smirked, pulling a couple of wolfsbane grenades from her pocket, "Kaboom."
She removed the pins before throwing them at the approaching pack of hybrids. They screamed as the grenades exploded, falling to the ground. I watched in shock, unable to process everything that was happening.
The next thing I knew, Klaus was pushing past me. He leapt at his father, the force driving them both to the ground. He drove the stake deep into Mikael's heart before stepping back. The Original let out a choked gasp before his body burst into flames.
"What the hell did you do?" Damon snapped and I glanced over my shoulder to see Stefan standing in front of his brother. The younger Salvatore looked slightly shocked and it didn't take an idiot to realise that he had pushed Damon away from Klaus, saving the hybrid's life.
"He's earned his freedom," Klaus replied when Stefan remained silent. He walked past me, over to the younger vampire. Stefan just stared at him remaining silent. "Thank you, my friend."
I knew what was about to happen. He was freeing Stefan, as a thank you for saving his life. We had failed and yet Stefan was getting exactly what he wanted.
Luckily, I didn't have to watch, as familiar arms picked me up. Damon held me close to him as he blurred us away from the Lockwood Mansion.

We returned to the Boarding House, where Elena was waiting for us. She sat in the parlor, and immediately stood up when we arrived. My sister wrapped me in a hug while Damon explained what happened. I was content to let him, and just enjoyed the comfort of my sister's arms.
"How did this happen?" Ellie frowned as I rested my head on her shoulder, glancing over at Damon. He was over by the booze table, pouring himself a drink.
"We thought of everything, Elena!" he raged, downing his glass before pouring another. "Klaus having hybrids. Mikael turning on us. We brought in Katherine so you weren't in danger. I took steps to keep Alexa safe too. Anything that could have gone wrong, we were prepared for!"
"I don't understand," my sister shook her head and I ran a soothing hand down her back. "Stefan wanted Klaus dead. More than anything. That's what we were counting on."
"We blew it," Damon scoffed, picking up the decanter as he stormed over. I watched my boyfriend's movements with worry. This was more than failing to kill Klaus. Stefan's betrayal had hurt him, more than I think he expected it would.
"Where's Katherine?" Ellie asked, but it sounded as though she didn't really care. She just wanted to keep Damon occupied and with us, not doing something reckless.
"She ran for the hills, like usual, the minute things got bad!" my vampire scoffed, shaking his head. "And who blames her?! Klaus would have crushed her." He groaned, the glass in his hand creaking dangerous. "I had him, Elena. I had Klaus! This could have all been over!"
He let out a shout before throwing the decanter into the fireplace. My sister flinched at the sudden noise, but I let go of her. I stepped forward, standing in front of Damon, and reaching up to cup his face. I forced him to look at me, "Day, hey, baby, look at me. This isn't the end, yeah? We will survive this. We always do. Just trust me."
I glanced to the side, where my sister stood, "Both of you, trust me. We're still alive, we survived tonight, that's what matters."
Damon sighed, reaching up to grip my wrists. He pressed a kiss to the palm of my hand before glancing over at Ellie, "We're never getting Stefan back. You know that, don't you?"
My twin was silent for a moment before nodding sharply. She had a determined look on her face as she said, "Then we'll let him go. Okay? All of us, we have to let him go and move on. I need to move on."
I gave her a supportive smile as Damon's phone began to ring. He wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me against his body as he answered the call, "Not interested in the play-by-play of our failure right now, Katherine."
I was close enough that I was able to hear the vampire's reply, "I'm just calling to say goodbye. I don't know what to tell you. You had a good plan, Damon. And that's high praise coming from me."
"That's not very comforting at the moment," my boyfriend shook his head. "You're going back into hiding?"
"At least my life is not boring. Goodbye, Damon."
"Take care of yourself, Katherine."
He hung up the call before resting his chin on the top of my head. I didn't know what was going to come next. But I knew that it wasn't going to be pretty.
