CHAPTER 1

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Katara rolled out of bed and groaned; tonight she would be having one of her biggest shows yet in her singing career. She was ecstatic, yet really nervous about the prospect of her job; it was a double edge sword, it was fulfilling, yet it could be dangerous. Her friends always told her to take more safety measures and be more mindful, but she didn't want certain things tying her down. Trying to erase those thoughts from her mind, she got up, stretched and was about to scroll through her socials, when she heard two sharp raps at the door. "Come in mom", she already knew who it was; her mom and manager in one. Kya really pushed her pass her limits and contributed to her being as successful as she was. "Katara! Why didn't you summon the the stylist as yet?" Her mother almost screamed. "Mom, calm down, I wanted to have at least one relaxing morning before I do so, and besides, it's still really early". Kya sigh "fine, and I wanted you to know that your dad and I are proud of you". With tears welling in her eyes, katara closed the distance and hugged her mom tightly. "Thank you mom, I really appreciate it." Her mom patted her shoulder as they separated. "And one more thing, since you are becoming more popular, your brother won't be able to follow you around all the time anymore." Katara looked at her mom with confusion trying to discern where she was getting at. Kya continued "and in that case, your dad and I want to hire a bodyguard for you". Katara could not believe what she was hearing; she wanted to scream at her mom for alluding to the idea of having some stranger look over her everyday in her business with no privacy. She always had an anger problem, and unfortunately, it was rearing its ugly head. Katara furrowed her brows, crossed her arms and yelled "NO!" Kya was a bit taken aback by her daughter's tantrum. She always knew Katara never wanted to be considered as weak, but she had to use reasoning that her only daughter was now heading more into the limelight and would need protection. "Katara, please understand," begged her mom, "it is for your safety, and besides, we will run background checks throughly on each of the applicants". Katara was furious at this point, and also wanted to cry out to her mom to understand her point of view; "please mom, I don't need protection, I have my friends around me all the time". Kya was getting frustrated, "katara, it will not be the same. This person will be duty-bound to keep an eye out on you at all times". "You mean they will be all in my business!" Katara bit back. Katara knew her mom was in a way right, but she didn't want her privacy invaded. She looked over at her mom and immediately her features softened; her mom was looking at her very worried, which touched Katara. "Fine, I'll accept the bodyguard.. if tonight takes a bad turn, or, if I'm having a weird feeling of being watched or followed" Katara surrendered. Although, Kya didn't like the second part, she accepted; that is as close as a yes she would get from Katara, and she knew it. "Ok penguin, mom loves you, now have your stylist come and prepare you for the day". "Love you too mom" katara hugged her mom as she walked away, shaking her head at her persuasive skills.

After a few hours, Katara was ready for the day and headed downstairs for breakfast. The table was already set with the finest dishes and she didn't had to lift a finger to prepare anything. The Hopkinson's were one of the richest people in Republic City, second only to the Beifongs. It all started when her grand father won a lottery that changed his life. Although they were rich, their parents were very humble and taught herself and her brother the values of hard work. She wanted to move out on her own, but her mom insisted she waited a year to arrange for a well planned move. Her mom always like to plan things through thoroughly. Sometimes Katara would even volunteer to cook and sweep once in a while, much to the maids chagrin. Her brother on the other hand, used his status to swoon girls and sometimes would have it go to his head. "Katara! are you in there?" Said brother was waving in her face disrupting her from her thoughts. "Yes Sokka, stop shouting, it's too early for that". "Don't blame me when you're spacing out, you seem to be doing that a lot lately" "any boy I should know about?" He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. "Sokka, if you don't stop that, I will throw cold water on you in your sleep, and I'll also tell Suki your big secret!". Sokka was mortified and gulped, knowing exactly the embarrassing secret she was talking about; him jerking off under the sheets to Suki's pics. He was completely mortified when his sister barged into his room to wake him up and caught him. Since then, she have been using that as blackmail. "ok!ok! I'm done, long as you don't involve Suki". Katara laughed, knowing fully well she had him wrapped around her fingers. "Ok I won't… for now". She walked over to start her breakfast leaving a pouting Sokka.

Katara was backstage hearing the loud echo of the magnitude of people that attended the show to listen to her and many other celebrities sing. She would not consider herself as a full out celebrity, but she was getting there. She always loved music, and only did it for fun at first. She never thought she would so many fans and maybe even a few enemies who might envie her; she shuddered at the thought remembering her mother's words. "Katara, are you ready love?" Her stage manager Keri asked her. "Hell yea! Let's do this" Katara chanted, although deep down she was a bit nervous. Her mic was fixed to her clothing and she ran out to the stage. She sang a few originals that were upbeat and the crowd went wild. She then did some slow songs and the crowd was swaying and enjoying the music. "Are you enjoying yourself tonight?!" Katara yelled over the mic, "yesssss!" The crowd screamed. Katara was sweaty and excited that her songs that she worked very hard on was being enjoyed. She was about to announce that she would be doing one more song, when gunshots rung out in the air. Everything was a blur. The crowds were scattering to safety, there were loud screaming everywhere. Katara was stunned to her spot, she didn't move, hell she couldn't move. She looked down and blood was pooling out of her abdomen. She felt dizzy and lightheaded. Her mother's words from earlier resounded in her head then everything went black.

A/N: cliffhanger! lol guess she gonna need a bodyguard after all. Who knows. Please review, I'm new to this so please be kind.
