Chapter 9: Dragons in Berk

I awaken, supposedly hours later, wrapped in warm blankets. Amid my sleepy haze, I begin thinking about this feeling of warmth and comfort I currently find myself in. At first my mind believes I am in my bed and the strange dream I had will be shrugged off in a few moments; however, I move a 'hand' out of the blankets to see an ebony paw in front of my face instead.

I'm still a dragon, which means I'm still in their world. I remove my paw from view just before I look around…I'm in a house: a small primitive building with only essential items in place. It has a simple bed, the one I'm in, an even simpler looking kitchen with a cooking pot in the middle of the room.

"W-what is this place…" I warble softly, still looking around. Well…if somebody wanted me dead, I'd be dead by now…obviously wherever I am, I'm a guest…so who do I got to thank for this hospitality?

I can't help but remain curled up in the sheets and I remain in them for a while longer…reminding me of my own bed back home…how I've missed sleeping like this. I sigh softly to myself, replaying past events in my head.

We defeated the Queen of Dragons on her island…Toothless and Hiccup: they made it…they had too, at least that's what I saw before I passed out. Then that means…I'm in Berk?

A few minutes go by before I hear a door open. I lift my head up as light fills the interior of the dwelling. I squint my lime-green eyes in response, focusing on the person coming in. My mouth gapes when I notice who it is: she's just a few paces away.

It's that girl…Hiccup's friend…Astrid!

"Morning Peanut" she smiled softly, putting her hands on her sides as if to strike a brief pose.

That's when I finally left the blankets, shaking myself like a dog before walking to the edge of the bed to meet her, "where am I? Where's Hiccup and Toothless?" I asked. Then I remembered…duh, she can't understand me.

Even though she can't understand my growls and warbles, she can read my body language and knew exactly what to say back in response, "I'm sure you're just as confused as Toothless is, come on little guy" Astrid gestures me to follow before I decide to follow, jumping off the bed.

We exit what I assume to be her house out into the dirt street. I am surprised, but I knew it…I am in Berk after all. It's the first time I am on the ground, though. It looks just as it did when I flew over with the others not too long ago. A lot of the medieval buildings were currently being repaired or modified. Unbeknownst to me: most were damaged or destroyed in the last raid…the one where Hiccup shot down the adolescent Fury.

Speaking of dragons, I see some walking or flying about all over the place! Some are even mingling with their new human companions. Friends, but aren't they sworn enemies? It appears our actions on the island have changed everything, and I can't help but smile in return.

Despite the relief, a thought kept me uneasy…maybe it's the fact that this all still felt strange to me. For days now we were on the run or hiding from these humans, and now we're suddenly out here in the open like nothing happened. I guess I shouldn't worry too much…I might as well enjoy this peace while I can.

Anyway, the Viking girl gives me a short tour of the grounds, eventually taking me to a forge. Inside the structure I can see weapons and other items on walls and tables. My eyes don't focus on them long, for I see a creature resting on the other end of the building. My heart soars as I give a tooth-filled smile.

"T-Toothless!"

I run over to them. Their ears had moved up, picking up my high-pitched voice, waking up suddenly. From what I can see Toothless has bruises and marks all over his body from the volcano collapse the other day. Nevertheless, his energy comes back when his mood mirrors mine. He sets his eyes on mine, "F-Flint, you're awake!" Toothless said, giving his signature smile, before we both end up circling each other playfully in the room. For somebody I've only known for a few days, our reunion is like we were old friends…I don't mind it, like I've said in the past: he's my connection to this world. Let's face it, once I met him…I got attached to him…I can't leave his side now, at least for now and it makes sense…there's still lots of things I can learn from Toothless while I'm still here.

Astrid watches from the entrance, face full of delight too. Soon enough she catches sight of an older man limping through, noticing our tails unknowingly striking many objects, scattering them across the floor.

"And here I thought ONE Fury would be enough, but two? Now that's a han'ful" It's Gobber the blacksmith.

As the two humans talk amongst one another, I pounce toward Toothless as he dodges swiftly, "I'm so glad you're alright!" I said as the bigger Fury retaliated by licking my muzzle like a canine. Soon it gets a bit too much, especially once I'm covered in his drool…

"Okay, okay, stop." I exclaimed while I pull away, extending a paw to give me space from him.

The Night Fury asked, "Are you okay?" I just raise a scaly brow to him, "I should be the one asking not you!"

That's when he notices the small scar I now bear on my left chest. I look down towards it, noticing it for the first time ever, "so this is what almost dying looks like" I sarcastically mumble, though deep inside I felt pretty uneasy by the revelation.

"Heh, wear that scar with pride" Toothless smirked encouragingly.

"So, uh…where's Hiccup?" I asked suddenly, remembering what I saw on the island before passing out. The moment I mention the Viking boy, the dragon gives a troubled face…despair fills his green eyes, "he's…resting" the Night Fury replied simply.

"Resting?"

The other dragon nodded at this. I sit on my hind legs for a moment, rolling my head to the side, "can we go see him?"

Tooth looks to the humans and then back to me, "I suppose, if they let us."

I look to the Vikings and then back to him, "I think you'll have to drop hints for them."

And so, we started making our way to the top of a hill: where Hiccup's scent is taking us. Toothless had already been allowed to see the kid, but I guess the Vikings were still cautious as to let a dragon around their kind, alone.

Astrid and Gobber were confused at first, following the teen Night Fury through the village, but they soon realized where exactly he was taking us and who we both wanted to see. Both Vikings couldn't help but allow us, feeling that we deserved an audience with the boy, at least for a moment.

As we walk there, I turn to the reptile next to me, raising a weak brow:

"So…is it over?"

"I think so…" Toothless replied sincerely.

"W-what happened after the battle?"

"I saved Hiccup" is all he said.

What about the island? What about the Queen? Is she dead? Is the war over now? It seems like it is…there's dragons in Berk after all. It MUST be over, which means we can finally rest without having to look over our shoulders again.

"I've got to hand it to you, Flint. Those were some good bomb runs you did back on the island. I didn't have a chance to tell you that back then." He complimented as I chuckled in my ten-year-old voice, "I guess I've come a long way."

"You have. You've managed to relearn everything, almost everything anyways. I'm happy to see that you're getting more skilled as time passes by."

"Let's just hope my skills don't involve hurting Vikings" I scoff as he can't help but laugh nervously.

"Yea, let's hope it doesn't come to that…"

We reach the Haddock residence. Stoick is nowhere to be found, presumably dealing with the fallout of recent events. Gobber steps in, ushering us in as Astrid waits by the door.

"Now be careful, don't want either of ya-" he is stopped by the girl next to him, "they're fine" she says before the blacksmith shrugs, "alright."

Once inside I can see him: Hiccup is passed out, covered in several layers of blankets as I was. Toothless and I walk closer and for some reason I can sense what's wrong with him: he's in a coma. Like the dragon next to me, the human bears some scars on his face: particularly near his chin.

The adolescent dragon across from me, on the other end of the bed, gave an equally worrisome expression, "he's been like this for hours since the battle."

I can't see Haddock very good from where I am due to my size, so I make it to Toothless and climb on his back to get a better look at the boy, "how long has it been Toothless?"

"A day…"

I stare at the boy…feeling pity, but I think: it could have ended worse…a lot worse. We're all alive and that's what matters.

"We should leave him be, come on you two" we heard Astrid call to us, ushering us out as we decide to follow. As much as Tooth didn't want to leave the Viking's side, he figured the boy needed time on their side to pull through. Despite the situation, he's confident Hiccup will awaken soon. I suppose we can check up on the boy later…

And so, we're led out of the house as Gobber closes it shut. Astrid looks at us, scratching her chin in thought. An idea pops up in her head. In an effort in lighten the mood, she gives a soft smile to the two Night Furies in front of her, "you two look hungry. What do you guys say we get you something to eat?"

Astrid leads the group: taking us to a large structure on yet another hill, only this time it's a place that is built into the mountain. Two colossal statues of Vikings greet us that have fire pits on each side. It's what I would come to know as: the Great Hall.

Inside it is massive, with a large pit in the center where the Vikings hold meetings for urgent and/or important matters. Spread around are long tables where we can see dozens of Viking men and women scattered about: eating, drinking, talking, fighting…all the things Vikings do, I guess. This, ultimately, is what most historians know, and what I didn't really know, is called a Mead Hall.

The moment Toothless and I step in the hall, it gets quiet…dead quiet. Everyone who's sitting down, standing up or doing whatever stop…and they look toward us.

Unfazed by the action, the Viking girl leads us to a table where there's food. The humans all around us watch as we silently get situated. All around us, our dragon ears can pick up what is being said about us.

It's the Night Fury!

And the baby!

I'd never though we'd see Night Furies walking in this hall except to get beheaded.

Though, some, more actually, were giving looks of admiration. We're the only dragons in this place, so I guess for most of the people in here we're being treated as guests of honor.

"Help yourselves" Astrid says. Our eyes widened at the plates being served to us:

Finally, something that's not just fish!

In front of us is food consisting of various meats, poultry…bread…hardly any vegetables though. Hopefully I won't get constipation from this diet…but who cares, I'm going to eat like royalty today!

All around the table are hungry, drunk Vikings messing around. It's a quite chaotic and barbaric scene. Then it all dawns upon me at that very moment: this is such a culture shock for me: there's no cars…no phones…no electricity…this place is barely in light…damn…how am I going to get used to a place like this? To add salt to the wound, all my favorite food doesn't exist yet…I'm a few centuries early, and drinks like soda…sadly I won't be seeing anytime soon. It's just water…wait a minute!

I glance over to see a Viking passed out…and next to him is a nice…cold glass…of beer!? Is that alcohol!? It is! I recognize the smell! Oh, friend…how I've missed you!

I try to grab the mug with a clumsy paw from the unconscious man, but suddenly…I felt a hand slap my paw away.

"No! That's NOT for you, bad dragon, bad baby dragon!" I heard Astrid growl ferociously at me as I snarl back

Well, 'ya look at that!

These devils a'ready want to be like us

Two Vikings laugh from the other end of the table. Toothless looks to me, with a chicken leg hanging from his mouth, and I glare back frustratingly at him, "can you believe that!?" I grumbled as the Fury across from me shrugged and returned to his meal.

I'm not allowed to have alcohol…so yea…guess when I'm older. I'll have to wait until I'm twenty-one again…or is it eighteen here…do they even have laws like that in this time period?

"Well then, I'm off" Gobber suddenly said, snapping me out of my trance.

"What for?" Astrid butted in, curious.

"This old boy's workin' on something for the lad" he looked towards Toothless, who is unaware.

"Hiccup" Astrid right then knew what he meant.

"Besides, you're babysittin' today" he laughed before limping off. Astrid can't help but shake her head, raising an eyebrow at that. Never in a million years did she think she would end up baby-sitting dragons if you told her that just a few days ago.

I set down a piece of chicken, staring at it. The older reptile locks his eyes on me and with a mouth-full said, "Flint, you ought to eat more."

I raise a scaly brow to him, "you feel right at home, don't you?" For a dragon that's lived in the wild all their life, Toothless seemed perfectly adjusted after just a day here. I guess he felt the hospitality warranted our delights, especially since doing so would not arouse hostility between the locals. To me, however, he's already acting like a domesticated animal. I guess all his time with Hiccup has allowed him to quickly adapt to this surrounding. Unlike him, however, I felt disconnected. I don't know…being from a different time and place this all felt so alien to me and I felt so claustrophobic and distant. How could I ever adapt to this environment? I escaped to my thoughts.

What happens now? It appears I've done my part in helping stop the Dragon-Viking conflict and things were settling down. So…now what? Do I just…go to sleep and wake up in my bed in my human form…call everything a success and that's it? If that's the case…do I have to say goodbye to Toothless now?

It would make sense…my job here is done…isn't it? Why don't I get to say when I want to go or how long I want to stay…what if it's pointless…what if I NEVER see my family and friends again. What If I never get to see the bright dotted lights of a city skyline, hear the music I've grown to love over the years, see the different cultures intermixing together, or even see the chemtrails left behind by a plane? Even if that last part is bad for the environment, it's the modern feel and experience that I might never come across again…

I stood up, leaving suddenly: catching the attention of the other Fury and the girl. Just outside the Great Hall I sit on the steps, curling into a tight ball with only my head looking up at the bright blue skies above. I shake my head…even if I never really been on planes a lot, I'm going to miss watching them pass the sky. I'm going to miss out on all the future achievements of the 21st century…if there will be any…

Is it selfish for me to think about my predicament? Is it selfish for me to want to go home so bad, even after all this? How can I leave now though…unceremoniously…as everyone is in a state of respite? I've made new friends here, but I still have old ones to see back home…I am SO torn right now how do I even act the right way about it!?

I contemplate silently before I sense the dragon and Astrid behind me.

"What's wrong, little guy?" She asked, but I responded more to the dragon when they nudged my side, "Flint. Something is obviously troubling you."

"What makes you say that?" I jokingly retorted. Though after I shake my head…giving a long, winded, sigh, "what happens now…" I said ambiguously, both to myself and to him.

"We rest. We take time to let things sink in."

"They already have for me" I retort again. A look of despair poisons my face. I turn my head, meeting his gaze head on with both our green eyes locking in place, "Toothless…I'm…afraid."

"Don't be, we're here. I'm here, whatever happens I'll be there by your side…you KNOW that" he said confidently, but I wasn't as certain as he was. I gave a look to him as if to say, would you let me finish, you blockhead?

I continue, "I'm afraid…that I'm going to…disappear, and I won't see you or everyone else again."

Tooth gave a look of utter confusion, but figured I was talking like this because of how his kind disappeared when he was younger. I don't why, but I didn't think about telling him the truth in that moment. What's stopping me from telling him, especially when I could 'wake up' at any time?

I guess I didn't want to hurt him, but it would continue to plague me for a while.

In the midst of my sulking, I felt his head meet mine as if it were a way to calm me and it did…I gave in pathetically in return.

"It's okay Flint…I promise you this: you will not disappear. You and me…we're safe now and I WON'T let ANYONE hurt you or take you away EVER again."

Some time passes by. The morning had been mostly cloudy, but now it's sunny and the wind is much calmer. We had descended the town, soon meeting up with the other teens who helped us battle the Queen.

"Astrid!" The four yelled, running up to us. Their dragons were by their side, looking at our group with excited faces. They had a very friendly thing going about them…they all seemed to look up to us now…at least Toothless and Astrid anyway.

The girl Ruffnut sees me and can't help but rush over and grab me! She holds me in her arms as she tightens her grip around me!

"Ahh, he's like a pocket-sized version of his brother! Sooo awesome!"

"T-Toothless…help!" I squirmed, looking over to my fellow Night Fury with a squinted eye. Toothless does nothing, he just stands there…covering his mouth with a paw to hold in his laughter.

"Alright, cut that out and put him down." Astrid warned before Ruffnut sets me down on the ground.

"He's definitely more awesome than you, and cuter" Tuffnut retorted as his sister mocked him.

I scoff as I stomp away from the human twin, "kind of wished you jumped at her" I sarcastically told the adolescent Fury and he laughs, "I know better now, I think you're going to have to get used to being the town's cutest dragon."

"Ha-ha-HA!" I silently mocked, turning away in response. He just places a paw on my head and starts rubbing me, "I'm just jesting."

"Ha…that makes me feel A LOT better now that you say that" I playfully scoffed.

"So, they are related?" Fishlegs asked but the blue-eyed girl shakes her head, "Hiccup told me they aren't siblings."

"Wait how does he know?"

Astrid just shrugs at this. Soon enough, the same female Deadly Nadder from the Island swoops down from the skies above and lands next to her rider, "hey Stormfly" the Viking scratches the neck of the bird-like dragon.

"You called her…Stormfly?" Ruffnut asked.

"Well, you named yours Barf!" Her brother retorted before his sister gets in his face, "only a dummy would call their dragon Belch!"

"Alright, enough" Astrid broke them up before Fishlegs walks to her, "how's Hiccup?"

"Still in bed…" Astrid replied softly.

"Oh man…you think he'll be okay?" Snotlout joined them and asked, concern running through his veins.

Astrid raised an eyebrow; she can't help but feel a bit amused by the prospect of Snotlout being worried for the boy. Despite his outside bravado, he cared about Hiccup.

"I'm sure he'll wake up soon." Astrid finished.

"I heard Gobber put something in his leg" Ruffnut said.

"I heard it was an axe" Her brother added.

"Why would you put an axe on your leg, you wouldn't be able to walk, a hammer is much better!"

"How do you know!?"

While the teens bicker, the Nadder hops to me, examining my new scar running down the left side of my chest: it's more of a dent mark than anything…and it's not pink or red as if it were human flesh, you can still see it, nevertheless.

"How are you two?" She asked, focusing one side of her face toward us: I guess this is due to the fact she's blind when facing front.

"Okay," Toothless says, "thanks for rescuing Flint back on the island."

I simply nodded back as the other black dragon looked at me with a face of pity, "that stupid Queen…" he growled softly…looking at my scar. He wasn't mad at the fact I now had a scar, but of the fact that the Queen GAVE it to me and caused all of this with Hiccup.

"I'm fine, it hurts a little, but I would say the Queen looks a lot worse than either of us right now" I chuckled, noting the Fury's bruises and marks from the rocks.

"I'm just thankful she's gone" Tooth muttered. He was not sure if she was, but even if the behemoth is alive…she would be permanently blind from our attacks on her.

"It seems as though that is the case" we heard the Monstrous Nightmare bellow to us.

"But without the Queen, where will our kind go?" The female Gronckle bellowed back.

"Here, obviously" Toothless replied back to her.

"The human settlement?" One of the heads from the Zippleback asked.

"It smells awful here" the other added.

"Maybe the humans will help us" the Nadder shrugged a bit.

"They will. I'm sure of it" the older Night Fury finished.

"This ought to get interesting…" I mumbled, "humans and dragons, living together as one…ever thought it would be possible?"

"No" all the other dragons replied, even Toothless, "I mean…now: definitely, but before…no."

Astrid looks around, noticing all the work being done to accommodate dragons in Berk and she can't help but think not a day ago they'd all be against this idea. If Hiccup wakes up, he's going to find a TOTALLY different Berk than the one he grew up in.

Berk, however, WAS going through a transformation, much like the change going on with its inhabitants. One thing is for sure, the village won't be the same again.

Anyhow, time passed and Toothless and I rested by a cliff…not too long ago it was the same cliff he jumped off to escape the Berkians a day ago. The other dragons were resting also or were bonding with their human counterparts. The sun is high above the sky, we can feel the cool autumn breeze against our black scales.

My thoughts drifted towards Toothless…

"It's crazy…" I sigh softly. The other reptile opened an eye and turns his head to me, "what is?"

"Not too long ago we were both stuck inside a pit…surrounded by people wanting to kill us." I said softly.

"Life works in mysterious ways."

"That it does…" I chuckle softly…thinking about my predicament.

"Flint" he lifts his head, partially getting out of his curled form, "about the cove…" he began.

"What about it?" I raised an eyebrow.

"When we first met, you said you were separated from your parents?"

"Yessss" where is he going with this, nothing good I reckon.

"Well, where are they?"

I look away, "I don't understand."

"Night Furies have great senses…the best…surely, they would have found you by now?"

I thought of something fast to deflect this question from him. I glare back, "let me ask this: how do you know they weren't captured too?"

Toothless immediately regrets his stance, looking down on the ground softly, "s-sorry…"

I look away but I also feel a sense of shame too…I can't keep lying to him…but I just can't tell him the truth…not when things are looking good for us…maybe I'll tell him once Hiccup is okay. I know I keep putting it off, but the truth would hurt Toothless bad…and I KNOW it will. Silence envelops us for a few moments…before I finally speak, "as long as we're together…we should be fine" I said, "Berk will help us…like you said."

"Yes…" he curled back into a cat-like ball, "it's going to be our home now…maybe your parents are okay…maybe they're somewhere…I'm sure you'll reunite with them soon enough."

"Maybe" I clapped back softly, looking away.

Soon enough, news reached us fast from the village: Hiccup is beginning to stir! Stoick the Vast himself had been told and he approached us from the arena. He quickly led us toward Hiccup's home. I was told by my dragon friend that this man had a particular hatred for him not too long ago. Unlike his previous demeanor toward Toothless, the Chieftain now had a softer, and more welcoming, expression on his face.

"I can't thank you two enough for what you did back on the island."

Toothless chirped at him in dragon tongue, accepting Stoick's gratitude. I simply nodded, following them from behind. I guess the man by this point had realized just how intelligent dragons actually were, particularly Night Furies.

Once we got to the house, Astrid stops just short of a few paces, having gotten the news from the same source. Stoick, meanwhile, stood by the door, gesturing us to enter, "please…be careful around my son…I'm counting on you two…" he said fondly.

W-wait a minute, I need a second to let that sink in: Stoick…the Chief of Berk…is Hiccup's father!?

"Did you know he was his dad?" I asked, confused, pointing with a stubby claw.

"Not until recently."

"Wow…" I chuckled back, "that's interesting." I got to hand it to this six-foot tall behemoth that he's putting a lot of trust in us…the honor he must have for us is probably astronomical.

And so, we entered the dimly lit house again. Once again, we spotted the boy in bed, but now he is moving a lot more than before. Toothless can sense the kid awakening and relief washed over him right away. I couldn't help but also feel relieved, smiling softly at this revelation. Maybe he WILL be alright after all!

We stopped next to the bed and like last time I climbed on the Fury's back, resting on his neck to check on the boy. To anyone else that might've been there, it probably looked adorable. Upon smelling the young Viking, the dragon pulls back, giving a tooth-filled smile in response.

Hiccup finally opens his eyes and in retaliation: Toothless nudges his cheek as I hold on.

"Hey Toothless…hey little buddy…happy to see you two" he said upon seeing me on top of Toothless. Sure enough, the bigger dragon can't contain himself and starts licking the boy in the face. One wrong move sends the boy up, cringing in pain…possibly from injuries sustained from the battle. He clutches his sides in pain, but once it subsides, he finally notices where he is:

"I'm…in my house? Wait…you guys are in my house!?"

Toothless starts bouncing up and down, getting way too excited for his size! I can't blame him though he's happy that his human friend is alright. He starts moving around the interior of the house in pure excitement, and I end up falling off him in response! I grumble softly, my face having hit the floor.

"Oh Toothless, come on…" suddenly he stopped…feeling something odd below his knee. Once he lifts the sheets to investigate, his face darkened. Toothless hopped down from the support beams above, noticing the strange object around the boy's leg. I went silent…I remained very still…I know exactly what it is…Hiccup's left foot is gone…replaced by a prosthetic one. He just sat there for a few moments, letting it all sink in. I couldn't help but feel pity…he's just a kid…gosh…I can't believe this happened!

Hiccup is strong, however, and gives a soft sigh, getting out of his covers to set his new leg on the ground beneath him. The teen Fury moves in and sniffs the strange device as I slowly walked over. I can't say anything, I just give a soft low whine as Toothless does the same in response. Something compelled me to move in and jump on the bed to softly rub my face against the Viking, like a cat, to comfort him.

After a few moments, however, he looks ready to take the first step. Hiccup stands up from his bed, holding on to the bed post for support at first. The first step is hard, and he cringes at how unnatural the new prosthetic feels. Yet, he takes another step; however, but almost falls! I yelp in response, thankfully Toothless is there to offer support for him…using his head to break Haddock's unexpected fall.

"Thanks bud" he simply thanked the beast. I jump down from the bed in a bid to help, but I stop myself: noting the striking resemblance of the two right then and there.

It might be a bit too much, especially coming from a guy who's cynical sometimes, but I guess it's poetry…it's all falling together like a rhyme. Toothless and Hiccup: they're halves…they make each other whole…the dragon's missing fin and now the human's leg…it all fell into place.

My thoughts are interrupted when I saw them by the door.

"WildWing?" I heard the boy ask softly.

I sigh, nodding back, and I run up to join them before Hiccup smiles. I climb up Tooth's back again, perching myself as I did before.

As soon as the Viking opened the door, a Monstrous Nightmare appeared: sending him into a fright! I couldn't help myself either, given the sudden appearance…it had me cowering behind Toothless! Again, not such a big credit to the Night Fury species.

"Stay here you guys…" the teenager muttered.

W-what? Does he really think-oh, right…he hasn't seen the new and improved Berk just yet…well…he's in for a surprise. Sure enough, once he opens the door, he witnesses his peers riding the beasts outside. It's a sight to behold: something Greenie here and I managed to see before him, now we're both smugly waiting for his reaction.

"I knew it…I'm dead…" Toothless and I couldn't help but snicker at that. Our laughs are immediately joined by Stoick, who walks up to him, "no, but you gave it your best shot! So, what do 'ya think?"

Below us, the other villagers notice the now-awoken boy and started coming towards him as Stoick leads him down the hill. I sit on my hind legs, looking on toward the group that had now surrounded Hiccup, Astrid and Gobber included. I look up to the much larger Night Fury next to me, "looks like everything's okay now after all." He meets my gaze happily, "thanks to Hiccup."

"And you…" I added fondly.

"Don't tell me you're leaving yourself out" he shook his head as I smirked.

"Come on, silly" Toothless moved forward, taking a short glide toward the small group.

Night Fury!

Get down!

The older reptile hopped on top of the Viking known as Spitelout Jorgenson, soon jumping off the man shortly after. I roll my eyes, giving a big smile at his antics, deciding to follow him down. I'm not as mischievous, so I just walk casually to them, stopping beside the bigger dragon. We are met by Hiccup and Astrid, who laugh back at us. Stoick moves away, having apologized to Astrid for how he treated her the past day…she took it better than anyone I know would have. Then again, she's a Viking and they're well…Vikings, they tend to shrug off such things.

Hiccup is holding what appears to be a device given to him. I realize then that it's a new saddle and tail fin prosthetic for none other than Toothless! This fin is bright red in color unlike the older brown one that had been destroyed.

"So, buds," Hiccup began with the two of us, "what do 'ya say we take this thing out for a test flight?"

"Sounds like a crazy idea" Astrid said back, "I like it" she added, making the boy blush a bit. He certainty didn't expect the kiss she gave him before, it might take a while for him to get used to that, but he doesn't mind.

It didn't take long for the boy to saddle up and get used to his new prosthetic: which now fit the new stirrup that was made for him. I am next to them when I see the red fin extend for the first time: showing a skull symbol that is painted white. Astrid mounted her own dragon, who happily allowed her presence. I am between both dragons and teens, looking up to each before they nod back.

"Everyone ready?"

I grinned as the Nadder squawked back.

"Toothless?" Hiccup looked down to his best friend, who smiled back with his gums, "always!"

We take off, soon going through the village, passing tall rock formations and new human-dragon homes being built and finished. We fly by the Square, the domed Arena and the docks below: soon being joined by the other Viking teens and their dragons. As we climb high into the sky, as if we're attempting to challenge the sun, I think to myself:

I think I might as well enjoy all this while I can. Who knows…I might find what I've been looking for all this time, and I'm not alone…I have everyone here to help me too!

We climb even higher, passing the clouds and approaching the top layers. I fly beside the other Night Fury, who turns and gives a smile to me, and I nod back, confidently looking ahead. I give a loud high-pitched roar!

This isn't the end. I suppose my story here is just getting started. More adventures await us!

To be continued.

Alright, that's the end of the first movie! I hope you all are enjoying this story so far. It's been fun writing this story these past 2 months, but there's still lots of work to be done for sure! The next chapter will cover the first episode of Riders of Berk…the first T.V. show of HTTYD. Until then, see you next time!
