Sorry for the delay on this recent chapter, I had to make sure I wouldn't make any mistakes on it. After all, it's a pivotal event having been built up in previous chapters. It's no surprise that it went through several revisions before I finally read through it and posted it to the site.

Consequently, this is a long chapter and has a lot going on. I hope you all enjoy this recent update!

Chapter 33: Worth Saving

Mid-day…clouds blanket the sky: with thunder signaling an approaching storm. Below is the volcanic island known as Dragon Island. The Ex-Queen, Belin, and the other dragon inhabitants watched the Berserker fleet move closer to their home: like a predator slowly stalking their prey…as if slowly marinating their kill.

It's true that once they realized who these people were (by noting the Skrill insignias on their ships), nothing could stop them from preparing for battle. As much as the dragons wanted peace…their island home will soon become a battlefield.

The Ex-Queen looked down at her fellow reptiles and with a stern expression that read: go…leave this place…all of you.

Deep down inside, however, she knew none of them would leave. Belin took notice of her look and knew she is begging him to take the others to safety…leave her to die.

"No…" Belin the Terrible Terror stated loudly for everyone to hear. As small and harmless as he might have appeared, the small dragon had a lot of heart and loyalty to the island, "I'm not leaving you…"

He turned to everyone else, maybe assuming one or two, maybe more, might leave for safety; however, one by one each reptile shook their heads and remained. NONE of them wanted to flee…not after everything they've been through, and certainly not by leaving their paradise within Helheim's Gate.

The colossus took in a deep sigh and nodded at them. She began to act. With haste, Galadriel the Ex-Queen orders Belin and the male Nadder to organize the other dragons into groups. There's not many of them compared to the humans, and so it's more than likely that the dragons will use hit-and-run tactics.

Not too long after, some of the boats made landfall. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and the others are quickly ushered out along with Berserkers covering their sides. The tribes set up a perimeter: guarded by archers, barricades, and catapults.

Belin and his dragon followers watched from the cliffs…they would have attacked by now: but they saw a few humans they recognized from the army: it was the Vikings from Berk. Among them is the boy that belonged to the teenage Night Fury…what were they doing there!? Why are they with these Berserkers, Belin thought. Maybe the human boy has a plan? Maybe…but where were the dragons of Berk…the two Night Furies…they're nowhere to be found. This worried the green reptile greatly. He tried telling the Queen who understood the possibility of engaging the Berkians if need be. For now, however, she wanted them to remain under cover, for she'll try and reach out to Toothless and Flint Callahan for help.

The male Deadly Nadder looked over to Belin with a side eye, "when do we strike?"

"Not yet…I didn't expect this many of them…dang it…" the 'garden' dragon growled under his breath in frustration.

Flint…Toothless…where are you guys? Belin asked in thought.

Meanwhile, back on Berk, I'm helping Astrid put the Auto Tail fin on Toothless. I use my claw and the tip of my nose to direct the warrior girl and she followed my instructions. I double-check to make sure it's on right before we step outside the forge.

"Man…that dragon's smarter than you" Ruffnut chuckled towards her brother before he snapped back at her, "at least I'm smarter than my clueless sister."

"Pfft! Yeah, right!"

"Guys! Come on…" Fishlegs halted them, "Astrid, should we call our dragons now?"

"Definitely" she placed her fingers together to her mouth and seemed to imitate the cry of a Deadly Nadder: something the Dragon Riders had learned to do in order to call their dragons from far away.

Sure enough, Stormfly came flying in before the other riders called their dragons too.

"Come on, girl" Astrid hopped on her bird-dragon.

"I hope we're not too late…" I warbled softly in dragon-tongue towards the other dragons. Toothless, who's inspecting the Auto Fin, soon came to my side and nodded…giving a confident pose for everyone, "let's hurry."

The artificial fin opened up on its own as it always did, and the sixteen-year-old Fury launches up into the sky.

Determination filled everyone, me included. I soon followed his lead and took to the sky; behind us, the others join.

As we break through the cloud cover and are met by sunlight on the other side, I gaze over to Toothless who gave a reassuring nod to me. I couldn't help but smile back, absorbing his positive energy for the fight ahead.

"Remember all the lessons I've been giving you in combat. Remember to be aware and don't overdo it! If you get overwhelmed, fall back."

I sighed, taking in his advice. He gave a side-eye look of encouragement back, "I'll be with you, don't worry."

"Right…" I nodded.

"All right everyone" suddenly we heard Astrid Hofferson on Stormfly yell out against the wind, "we're going in to help Hiccup and the others. The first sign of trouble we're going to intervene, got it" she instructed.

"Heck yea!" Snotlout threw his fist up as Hookfang gave a loud roar back.

"You got it!" Fishlegs, on Meatlug, replied, "don't worry girl, there'll be lots of food back on Berk waiting for us…I promise!"

"Let's do this!" Ruff and Tuff cried out in excitement.

I turn my head to face forward. Soon we'll reach Helheim's Gate. Here we go…next stop: Dragon Island.

Hiccup paced back and forth, trying to come up with a plan to avert disaster. Unfortunately, Dagur is right next to him ushering him, his father Stoick, and the other Vikings away from the beachhead.

"Jeez, you're sweating, Haddock…come on, this'll be fun…like old times" the lead Berserker laughed.

The Viking boy next to him laughed back nervously, trying to distill the dread in the air. Stoick and Gobber looked around. They both haven't been on the rock since their last encounter with the Queen: more than a year ago. Without any of the fog, Dragon Island looked so generic to them. Above them, however, dark clouds are gathering…a possible storm is brewing.

"Hiccup, that's far enough."

"Oh, come on, Stoick…your son is a brave man, isn't that right!" Deranged suddenly pulled Hiccup into a tight embrace, rubbing the top of his head with his knuckle.

"Dagur…I didn't want to bring Hiccup along…son…return to the ship."

"He's going nowhere, Berkian…" the Berserker let go of the boy and pulled out his sword quickly in a threatening manner.

"Are you threatening me?" Vast growled under his breath, unleashing his weapon to challenge the man across from him.

"Aw, that's adorable. May I remind you, Stoick…that you made a pact with us…and I would reconsider your stance right now if I were you!" That's when Dagur suddenly brought Hiccup back into his arm, this time in a much more serious manner as if he is holding the teen hostage. Sure enough, the group of Vikings under Stoick's command withdraw their weapons but are, of course, surrounded by the much larger Berserker army. Spitelout and Gobber tried all they could to hold them back.

"Let go of my son…" Stoick warned, unphased by the danger around him.

"There's going to be a change from here on out…you follow MY orders, Stoick!" Dagur chuckled at that last part.

"Let…my…son…go!"

Before anything else could happen, the humans heard a very loud, and deep, growl from within the half-collapsed volcano…there's no mistaking it…that was the Queen!

Gobber whispered something in his best friend's ear, "I guess the kids were right."

They prepare for the worst before Captain Vorg signals the catapults to be set ablaze and fired! Soon enough, the fiery projectiles made contact with the volcano: some places collapsed and soon revealed dozens of hidden dragons! The creatures emerged to finally, and reluctantly, confront the human forces.

For Hiccup, what he had feared would happen had occurred…

Thus, it began: the Second Battle of Dragon Island.

The first wild dragons swooped down from the sky toward the Berkian/Berserker forces and chaos soon reigned. The Ex-Queen tried her best to remind the others NOT to kill anybody, if possible, but that order soon fell on deaf ears as the fight turned into a fight for survival.

Unfortunately for Galadriel, the behemoth finally emerged after one or two dragons were injured by the humans. Her roaring cry shook the landscape, sending the Vikings into momentary shock.

Hiccup stood there, next to the compulsive Dagur…who's so eager to destroy this island for the sake of his own enjoyment and thirst for violence. His devilish, toothy grin, soon dug deep into Hicc's mind. Something had to be done…now! "That's it…" he muttered, dropping the weapon given to him by Dagur and rushing forward.

The Viking boy stepped up, standing on top of a boulder as everyone (silent and having momentarily stopped their battle) turned to face him after he cries out to them all. Coincidentally, rain began falling from the dark skies above…at first, it's a drizzle but soon turned into a decent downpour.

"Dagur…you have to stop this…now!" Hiccup pleaded, not even caring that he's practically surrounded by Berserkers…

The Queen shook her head, recognizing the voice. She may be blind now, but she had a great hearing and a sense of smell (which she relied on both more now than ever) and her senses told her that it's Tooth's human: Hiccup. The colossus lowered her body, trying to pacify her appearance to win over the humans.

She heard stories of this great human…how he changed the course of history in the Archipelago thanks to his actions. Surely it can be done again, perhaps?

Dagur stood below Hiccup, now annoyed that the fighting had stopped momentarily. The wild dragons of Dragon Island retreated to higher elevations to avoid any possible retaliation from the humans.

"Why!? I'm having the time of my life right now!"

"I won't let you kill them!"

Stoick and Gobber, who were busy fending off some dragons, saw what was happening and began running over to Hiccup's side. Dagur's confusion turned to anger, especially when Hiccup remained defiant. The teen turned around and headed toward the Queen, alone. The two tribes watched in both dread and awe at what they were seeing.

Haddock knew it was for the best…he had to show them all…remind the Berkians why they made peace with dragons in the first place.

"Hiccup!?" Stoick shouted to his only son.

"What is he doing!?" Dagur exclaimed, dumbfounded yet flattered by Hiccup's brash decision to run toward the behemoth by himself.

Belin the Terrible Terror saw him coming and ordered some of the dragons to cover the giant before resting on her shoulder. Galadriel placed a paw on the ground for the human boy. Hiccup pressed onward, climbing to rest on the Ex-Queen's paw before she brought it up toward her face.

Mildew had a look of despair on his face. Everything he worked for to separate humans from dragons could shatter at any moment! Sure enough, he starts walking around with his staff…desperately telling the Berserkers, "this is a trick! He's being controlled by it…can't you see!"

"that's my son, Mildew…how dare you-" Stoick could not finish his retaliation, for his son shouted from above.

"Stop it, both of you!" All the others could do is look at the scene in front of them in awe, "she won't hurt anyone…please…we shouldn't fight dragons…least of us, Vikings…"

The small group of Berkians all looked toward one another as the dragons hovered idly around them.

"What have we been working towards this past year…so much…working with the dragons…creating a better society with them. Are we supposed to just…throw all that away…let our evil past take over again!? This dragon is NOT the same one I met all those months ago…she's changed!"

Dagur raised an eyebrow, slowly arching his head to Stoick the Vast, "w-what is happening before me…"

"Dragons are NOT what you think they are, Dagur…" Hiccup heard the other male, "I don't believe this dragon was responsible for all the recent raids on Berk. I believe someone framed her…but that doesn't matter anymore, what matters is that we STOP all this…now!"

The Chief of Berk examined the scene in front of him, taking in what Hiccup said…taking it to heart. M-maybe he's right…somehow…this beast in front of them has been pacified. It's true: it looked NOTHING like the monster Berk faced on the same island a year ago. Still, this is the same monster that hurt his son…almost killed him…

Gobber could tell his best friend is conflicted, so he laid a hand on their shoulder, "Stoick…" Stoick heard him murmur in his ear, "that's your son up there…you ought to help him."

"Gobber…"

"He's right, and you know it."

Vast sighed in defeat. Nodding, he said, "let's put an end to this insanity."

Unfortunately, before the adults could do anything, Dagur shouted at the top of his lungs, "the beast is open, fire already!" Not caring if Hiccup was on her or not. It appears he was unphased by it all and his obsession with the Ex-Queen prevailed. The others gasped as the Berserkers behind Dagur obeyed without question.

"No! Wait!" Haddock exclaimed. Sure enough, the catapults fired, and the flaming projectiles headed for the boy and the Ex-Queen. The former Queen heard the impending attack and used her other paw to cover Hiccup and turn around: using her back as a shield. She, unfortunately, gets hit and she groans loudly. Luckily, she's still alive and not in much pain: it's going to take a lot more than that to stop her!

"Hiccup!" Vast exclaimed in sheer terror. Stoick looked in dread before rage took over. He ran toward Dagur, "that's my son you're attacking!"

"Fire again!" Dagur orders, not even acknowledging what the Berkian had said.

Suddenly, they hear it…two approaching cries from the sky…it's what they expected to hear but none of the humans were fast enough to react.

"Night Furies!"

"Take cover!"

Everyone realized too late that two of the catapults had been destroyed in the blink of an eye and the culprits are already high in the sky again. They are soon joined by a flock of dragons.

Normally Dagur would have acted immediately afterward, but confusion overtook him when he saw humans on the back of those beasts! He gave a muted gasp in momentary shock.

The Ex-Queen turned around, setting Hiccup down on the group before he jumps off. He saw his Furies flying by: Toothless and WildWing! It turned out, Toothless is wearing the Auto fin and is flying independently beside the younger Night Fury. WildWing gave a sheepish grin as the two of them make a return pass and grab him. Tooth hurls Hiccup onto his back.

Haddock shakes his head before quickly adjusting to not riding on a saddle with his Fury, "Thank you, guys!" He smiled as the two black dragons nod back.

The boy looks behind to inspect the artificial tail fin, "you guys figured out how to put it on Toothless…I guess I should have told 'ya before, sorry" Haddock rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. Suddenly, Tooth playfully slapped the human's face with his ear, "concentrate, Hiccup! We got to take care of Dagur!" The dragon said in his language.

"This feels strangely familiar…" they heard Astrid fly in on Stormfly. They looked down at the Ex-Queen and the humans beside the beach, "it's like we've traveled back in time or something" Fishlegs noted.

"Except we need to SAVE her, come on!" Hiccup finished before the group swooped down.

"Time travel…cool…" Tuffnut grinned.

"We could totally bring back Cousin Lars to see this" Ruffnut added in.

"What if he's already down there…" her brother suggested before Snotlout finally groaned loudly to get their attention, "come on!" Hookfang descended before Barf, Belch and the twins followed.

"Ah…let's try something first…" the brown-haired Viking boy murmured before the group dived down to confront the Berserkers and Berkians. Sure enough, Belin and the other dragons from Dragon Island joined their side.

At first, Dagur and his men step back at what they are witnessing: dozens of reptiles, some of them "controlled" by the human teenagers…it must have been overwhelming for them. This is especially so because Dagur soon realized the two Furies hovering above him are the very same ones he encountered on this very island not too long ago. Sure enough, Dagur recovered from his shock and took the initiative, "Hiccup…y-you're on that Night Fury…the same one…"

"That's right, something I forgot to mention about us Vikings on Berk: we don't fight dragons anymore…we train them!"

The lead Berserker's expression changes from disappointment to sadness to anger in the blink of an eye…he realized at that moment: that the rumors were true

"All this time…you…were protecting them, those two beasts!"

The Ex-Queen in the background snorts loudly…so loudly that it makes the ground shake.

"That's right, they're my friends…and so is this Queen behind us. I WON'T let you hurt her or any of the dragons here!"

Stoick didn't want to believe this, but now he could see how much he was wrong (again.) After all, the behemoth shielded his son as if the latter were its own hatchling. Yet again the leader of Berk had to make an example and lead his people. They couldn't go back to the days of being enemies with the dragons…THEY are on their side: not the Berserkers. All these men have done is threaten them and push them to unnecessary violence…

Hiccup made Toothless fly a bit closer toward Dagur, who took a momentary step back, "Dagur…we can share our world with them. We can do so much together…please…" the boy pleaded. Mildew tried to object but is soon silenced quickly by Gobber who is next to him.

Stoick, along with the teens from Berk, all watched: proud of Hiccup and what he's trying to do. Flint can't help but feel the same, watching the scene near Belin and the Ex-Queen.

"We can make this work, Dagur…" Hiccup said, getting off Toothless to walk closer to the Berserker…much to the protest of his best friend. The brown-haired boy stretched his hand outward to the other male to try and seal the pact. Everyone, both Viking and Berserker, widen their eyes at the momentous occasion…could this be the beginning of a new age in the Barbaric Archipelago?

Toothless, right behind Hiccup, looks on…eyes shining in astonishment and hope. Maybe things will work out after all! All it took was a wholehearted speech from Hiccup!

Dagur the Deranged, still motionless, began to speak finally albeit with struggle, "y-you...you lied to me…to all of us…"

"Dagur…" Hiccup had shaken his head slowly at this, trying to diffuse the man's sudden rage.

"You were a brother to me, I trusted you!"

"Please…don't do this…" Haddock begged almost, stepping back, "You want to be friends with these beasts, fine!" Suddenly the boy's eyes widened as Dagur hastily brought his medieval sword down toward Hiccup! Toothless intervened quickly, using his tail to disarm the Berserker with lightning speed!

Everyone (dragons and humans) gasped in shock.

Captain Vorg, nearby, took his leader's attack as a sign to continue the fight, "argh!" He swung his sword down toward the duo like Dagur; however, he is halted by another blade…one of which belongs to Stoick the Vast, "how dare you…"

Hiccup quickly got on Toothless and took flight as everyone prepared for the worst.

The lead Berserker picks up his weapon and screams at the top of his lungs in response, "this is war, Stoick!" Dagur ordered his men to carry on as the catapults launched their load at the Ex-Queen and the archers fired upon the dragons! The latter group (including the Queen) manages to get out of the way successfully. It was not long after that the Berkians assumed defensive positions and used their shields to block incoming arrows and hatchets. Stoick, growling under his breath, shouted, "attack!"

Sure enough, Vikings and Berserkers charged toward one another. It's brutal melee combat…the kind you would expect to see from the time period. Flint shook his head at the battle…that was Berk's last chance at stopping all this…now it's time to act! He looks over to Belin who nodded back. Both gather dragons and form two groups to attack the Berserkers head-on: one to disable their catapults and the other to protect the first group.

Hiccup's shot at diplomacy with Dagur had failed spectacularly (though none of it was his fault.) Like Belin and WildWing, he had to act quickly and gather the others to ensure their survival. And so, he and Toothless fly up to the Dragon Riders and begin their planning.

"Well…what now, Hiccup!?" Astrid exclaimed worryingly.

"I guess we have no choice left but to fight!" Hiccup regrettably stated.

"I was afraid you would say that!" Fishlegs quivered.

"Yes!" Ruffnut shouted back.

"Now we're talking!" Tuffnut added in, clenching his fist in the air with excitement.

"Finally!" Snotlout groaned, relieved that they can finally bring "pain" to Dagur and the Berserkers.

Hiccup spots the Terrible Terror and the small pre-teen Night Fury flying toward the catapults on the beach, "WildWing's got the right idea, come on everyone: we've got to stop them from firing at us!"

And so, the Dragon Riders were off, heading for the beach to help the dragons of Dragon Island. Flint Callahan communicated with Galadriel, who is under fire from arrows and other projectiles. The behemoth nodded at his request, she sent in other dragons from another area to aid the human-turned-dragon and Belin.

The former human narrowed his eyes and growled as his throat started heating up. Right after, Flint unleashes his plasma bolt intended for one of the weapons. His attack utterly destroys it while Belin's group defends the Night Fury along with the other dragons in Flint's group (who are also attacking the installations.)

Toothless, Hiccup, and the others went for the archers that have focused their attention on Flint/WildWing and the Queen's followers. Soon enough, the bowmen are overwhelmed.

Dagur the Deranged cursed under his breath and pointed his sword at the largest dragon on the island, "take her down, now!" The man said before blocking a Viking axe from Spitelout.

The catapults fired again, and the Ex-Queen is struck in the side. She is stunned by the attack and because she's blind there's virtually no way she can retaliate. If she did: she would risk killing her allies, the humans, on the ground. It wasn't worth it…but wait…what if she went straight for the ships, she thought to herself. Her large body could demolish the fleet relatively easily. Sure, Galadriel couldn't see…but she could still hear and smell where everything is…just as long as she doesn't breathe fire, right?

And so, she made a (questionably stupid) decision to charge toward the beach. Everyone in her way had to jump and move away to avoid getting stomped. The Ex-Queen began rampaging on the shoreline, blindly taking out as many ships as she could by using her body and clubbed tail.

The rain began to intensify and so did the battle all around. It's quite a chaotic scene. Hiccup instructed his best friend to climb higher in the sky, "all right bud, let's help take out those weapons" he said as Toothless nodded. Once high enough, Hiccup held onto Tooth's neck as they descended toward the beach. Unfortunately, Toothless only had his auto tailfin on and no saddle…and both didn't think this through, so Hiccup ended up falling off mid-dive-bomb! Flint, fortunately, managed to hear the boy's cries. He wasn't far away, so the smaller Fury rushes to them! Once there, Hiccup landed on the human/dragon's back as the latter grimaced a bit. Flint looks behind and gives a sheepish grin before the boy does the same, "thanks, little bud."

Toothless came flying in, both greatly concerned yet greatly relieved! It's not long before Hiccup decided help is needed for him elsewhere…unfortunately. There's virtually no way he can hold on at such high speeds without falling off.

"Go ahead and take Hiccup and help the other riders, Flint" the smaller Night Fury heard Toothless say to him before he nods, "gotcha, please be careful!"

"Hey…come on, you're talking to a Night Fury here" he gave a smug look before flying away.

And so, Flint takes Hiccup to Astrid and the others who are on their dragons fending off some Berserkers. Hiccup saw the group getting into some trouble near the end of the beach, and it turns out the male Deadly Nadder Flint and Hiccup had known for a while is joining their side.

Hiccup instructed the pre-teen Fury to dive down alongside the Nadder. The Viking teen saw Meatlug and Fishlegs surrounded by Berserker warriors! The Nadder shot some spikes from its tail toward the foes as Flint added his own plasma fire in as well. This gave the Gronckle an opening to smack one of the distracted men with the blunt end of her tail, "nice one girl, thanks Hiccup!"

That's when the group hears the main Night Fury screaming in…soon demolishing a small fortification before flying away. Callahan thought quietly to himself before getting Hiccup off to ride on the Deadly Nadder, "please take care of him" Flint requested as the bird-dragon squawked in support. The human-turned-dragon soon climbed higher into the sky to join Toothless's side. Sure enough, both Night Furies begin doing back-to-back bombing runs. One after another, the last of the catapults are destroyed as they fly away at jet-like speed.

"Great job, Flint!" Toothless complimented. For him, he's pleased that the former human is doing dive bombs with him…he felt Flint is a natural at it just like Toothless…like he was meant to do it. The black dragon couldn't help but give a wide, satisfied, grin. Flint panted, soon smiling back, "thanks! Aren't you glad the Queen taught me how to do this?"

"I am now" the teen dragon chuckled.

Meanwhile, Galadriel had been rampaging in the water, taking out multiple ships in the process. The men on the boats had to abandon ship and head to shore or other vessels. Belin had called upon his group (which is now a part of Flint's previous followers) to harass the humans attempting to take down the Ex-Queen. One such group of men had a ballista aimed at Galadriel. They quickly fire the javelin, and it ends up embedding itself onto her shoulder! She roars loudly in pain: it almost deafens everyone.

Belin gasped in shock but his prayers for help is answered by the sound of a banshee cry and a black dragon coming in fast like a flaming meteor!

"Look out!" One of the soldiers yelled as he and the other jumped out of the way, soon thrown back by the Night Fury's plasma blast! They, and some others who had focused on the Ex-Queen, had no choice but to retreat…it seemed as though victory is at hand!

"Thank you, Toothless" the lead Terrible Terror exclaimed as the charcoal-skin dragon winked at him. Flint came in, hovering above Belin, "how are you all holding up?"

"Better now, thanks!"

Flint nodded before flying away to avoid an axe being thrown at him.

Hiccup, Astrid, and the others heard Tooth's banshee cry as he dived and soon everyone heard it, including Dagur the Deranged, "get down!" He shouted to Captain Vorg, ducking for cover as the purple plasma blast destroyed a catapult. The lead Berserker had enough of this, "get the nets ready!"

Stoick and the others were pushing the Berserkers away, getting the upper hand thanks to the dragons on the island and the Queen's help.

As Flint and Toothless flew away from Belin and his group, Captain Vorg snapped at Dagur in frustration, "there's no stopping those two!"

"Out of my way!" Dagur then pushed him away, getting the net contraption ready. Once Toothless is within range, the lead Berserker released the net, and it ensnared the Night Fury!

Flint turned back, hearing his brother's cry before he yelled in shock, "Toothless!" Quickly and recklessly, the smaller Night Fury landed and approached the Berserker group, pupils turning to slits.

"Flint, don't!" He heard the trapped dragon shouting back…the latter didn't want a repeat of what happened on Outcast Island…or worse…

The captain grinned, revealing his blade from its scabbard. Rain strikes both: the man displaying his weapon for the eleven-year-old Night Fury, "yes, come on little devil…try and save your twin here…"

"Just get them already!" Dagur impatiently clapped back.

Flint growls, showing his full rack of teeth to the human. Little...devil...this imbecile has no idea I'm human like him, Flint thought to himself. Suddenly, several barbs strike the ground near Vorg and Dagur, sending them back! A Gronckle came in and tackled one warrior beside Captain Vorg: it's Meatlug! Hookfang and the Hideous Zippleback joined in…helping both Furies overcome the men.

"I think it's time you all get back on your ships and never return" Astrid retorted while on Stormfly.

"You think your dragons scare me!? Hah!" Dagur exclaimed confidently.

"I don't think it's THEM you ought to be scared of!" Snotlout yelled back.

Suddenly, several Vikings, namely Stoick and Spitelout, charged in and started attacking the captain and Dagur as well as the men with them. Flint rushed in to free Toothless with a claw before the latter licked the side of his face, "thanks, come on!"

Then, Tooth's eyes turned slightly oval when he saw a Berserker rushing for Flint from behind him! Thanks to his dragon sense the smaller Fury could hear them approaching and ducked before Toothless smacked the human away with his tail, "nice one" the teen reptile complimented.

Sure enough, both Furies start engaging several Berserkers heading for them. The two black dragons work together in synch: dodging, sidestepping, and retaliating with their bodies against their foes. If an ax is thrown or another type of weapon, Toothless often used his wings as a shield (more often than not to protect Flint.) Flint used his body to trip opponents and Tooth uses his body to shoulder slam others. Soon, the duo manages to draw away most of the soldiers. They are joined in by the Dragon Riders and their respected dragons.

"Retreat!" Captain Vorg ordered as they made way for the ships. One problem though: the Queen…she's still in the water, having destroyed half of the fleet!

Speaking of the Ex-Queen, Hiccup (on the male Deadly Nadder) flies in to confront Dagur after helping Belin escape death from a lone Berserker.

"I'll never forgive you for doing this, Hiccup!" Dagur decided to continue, "the Red Death WILL DIE no matter what you do to try and save her!"

"Dagur…stop! You don't have to keep doing this!"

The Nadder soon uses their spikes to ward off two soldiers trying to flank them. One retaliated by throwing a spear at them, causing the dragon to panic and fly away: causing Hiccup to fall off and into the sand. Dagur, weapon out, runs toward the teen Viking. Hiccup used his shield to block some swings made by the deranged Berserker. Immediately afterward, a Terrible Terror flew in and started scratching and harassing the older teen male, "get away from him!" It's Belin!

His attacks don't do much and the human managed to grab Belin and throw him off, "stupid lizard!"

As this happens, Toothless and Flint could see the events unfolding, and not a second after both run to save their human Viking.

Hiccup tried to help the reptile but all it did was get Dagur to disarm him. Now on the ground, Hiccup backpaddled in dread as the taller warrior walked towards him with murderous intent. The lead tribesman gave a wicked smile; however, before he can do anything: two black blurs came in and got in his way!

Dagur is pushed away by a strong tail whip by an angered Toothless and the human ends up on the ground similarly to Hiccup. Flint helped Hiccup up from the floor before Toothless got closer to his best friend. Not once looking back, the teen Night Fury arched his back and snarled at their opponent. Belin, having recovered, joins their side.

The Berserker stood up and laughed, "I would be lying if I said this isn't the greatest day of my life! Take it in, Hiccup…take in this moment and remember it forever…" suddenly, he pulled out a crossbow aimed for Toothless, "let's share this moment together!" Dagur laughed, aiming at the dragon he had longed to slay for so long now. Did this scare the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself…no…it didn't. In fact, the reptile's mouth began to glow purple from inside.

Rain drowned the tense air and in that split second, they all heard a loud bang!

Quickly looking over they see that the Ex-Queen had blindly thrown a boat toward the beach! The large vessel is falling towards the Berserker…he looks above, and his eyes widened.

Toothless grabbed Hiccup by the shirt and threw him away before jumping backward while Flint, out of instinct, launched toward the teen at break-neck speed. He used his wings to give the small dragon a speed boost where he was standing. Not being too far away, he managed to push Dagur out of the ship's path…sparing both.

The sand soon settles and Toothless shakes his head as soon as the shockwave ends, "F-Flint!?"

"No!" Belin yelled in dread.

"WildWing!?" Haddock reacts the same way and soon jumps on his best friend to look for the smaller Night Fury. It turns out: that on the other side of the broken ship is Flint/Dagur.

Dagur opened one eye to see the small black dragon standing in front of him, standing over him. Toothless and Hiccup soon joined his side with the former pulling the smaller Fury away. Dagur is confused but he deduced that this creature had just saved his life…why: he wasn't exactly sure, nor did he have time to ponder because Stoick came in and subdued him with the help of Spitelout.

By this point, the rest of the Berserkers had fled, most returning to the remainder of the fleet out at sea. The Ex-Queen had fallen back after hearing everything. The evidence is clear…the battle has ended in victory for the Vikings and Dragons! This warrants a victory cry from the Vikings, their dragons, and the wild dragons on the beach. Dagur could only turn his head slightly to see what is happening.

"You lost…it's over…" Spitelout muttered, almost growling in the older teen's ear. The Ex-Queen slowly and carefully made her way through the beach, snorting out loudly at what Spitelout had said. Dagur, stunned and shocked by what had transpired, is quickly taken away by Stoick's men.

Belin and the others flew in to join Hiccup and Tooth's side, relieved that the battle is finally over.

"We did it…" Stormfly chirped.

Meatlug jumped in, "Is it safe now?"

"For the moment..." Hookfang muttered, "those humans got what they deserved…"

"That hurt them more than it hurt us!" Barf proclaimed.

"More for you, maybe…I wasn't feeling pain at all!" Belch retorted.

"Liar!"

"Am not!"

Toothless had not paid attention to his friends and instead glared at Flint like a concerned sibling, which he very much was, "What were you thinking, Flint!?" Toothless poked his nose aggressively at the pre-teen, "you could have been killed!" He soon cried out, almost to the point of tears.

"I-I don't know…I just…" he shook his head, "I couldn't stand there…"

"You did it out of instinct…" Belin butted in. Toothless looked toward the Terrible Terror, almost telling him to be quiet; however, Flint moved in, "it was stupid…but I couldn't let him die either…"

"He was going to kill us…" Toothless shook his head.

"I know…but we can't forget who we are…right?" Callahan looked up, staring into the Night Fury's green eyes, "…right, Toothless?"

Sure enough, the teen dragon relaxed his expression and his eyes turned slightly square as a result, "right" he said before sitting down on his haunches, "at least he and his men got what was coming to them."

"No one died today…there were injuries…a lot even, but still…" Belin added in. The Terror soon directed his attention to Galadriel and went to help guide her back to the volcano to rest, "uh, excuse me…I'm coming, hold on!"

"Pfft…I can't believe you didn't fry that lizard when you first met him" Toothless said jokingly, looking back at them before turning back and sighing loudly, "listen…you did good, Flint…really. I'm proud of you."

He suddenly nudged the smaller dragon's head. Flint Callahan couldn't help but return the gesture in kind.

"Well…" Astrid butted in as if to intentionally draw the two dragons away from their moment, but they know she was not. It's not like she could understand the Furies anyway, "I guess we won't have to worry about the Berserkers again for a while…" she said softly, resting her ax toward the ground.

"So…what now, now that we kicked their butt?" Snotlout asked sincerely.

"Now, we go after 'em!" Ruffnut suggested.

"I'm all in!"

"Uh…guys…we just did…" Fishlegs retorted, silencing them.

"And we got ourselves a prisoner" Astrid almost grinned, looking over to Dagur the Deranged who is being placed on a small boat that the group can use to return to Berk. It's true: his men had retreated in whatever was left of their fleet and now their leader is under the custody of Berk. Flint silently wondered just how things are going to play out from here on out…he guessed this Berserker War ended in just one hour…he found it quite amusing.

Stoick the Vast looked toward them, momentarily leaving Dagur in the custody of Spitelout and Gobber. He walks up to the group before staring at the Ex-Queen and Belin. Not long after, he gives a deep sigh of regret. The Chieftain didn't say anything, but he didn't have to: they all know he's sorry for not trusting the Queen. Callahan doesn't blame him…after everything that happened it took a while to convince even Toothless that she had changed. It's clear that Stoick has looked past what the giant was and now he views her in a different way. The man gave a simple nod back before leaving with the others.

Once he got on the boat, Stoick leaned over and with a hard breath said to Dagur, "start rowing…" he ordered as they left the beach on the small ship.

Hiccup and the others sighed shortly afterward…this adventure is ending finally. After days of just pure anxiety hitting their guts, they can finally rest…at least for now.

"She's safe for the time being" Hiccup said, getting everyone's attention.

"The Queen kicked massive butt!" Ruffnut grinned.

"I'll say!"

"Not as much butt as me!" Snotlout chuckled before everyone gave him the stink eye, "what?"

Flint the Night Fury looks up to the colossus and the Terror on its shoulder. He sends a message to them telepathically, "if you ever need us…you know where to find us." Belin smiled, "back at 'ya, human."

Callahan chuckled, rolling his eyes in retaliation. He soon decides to fly up and hover beside Galadriel's face: giving a toothy grin toward her…man…I wish she could see this…like…really see this…with her own eyes. I guess it's the thought that counts, he thought to himself.

"I want the both of you to know this…I will do my best to be there to fight for you whenever possible…I want you all to live in peace: you deserve it…you are all worth saving."

Soon, the small black dragon is joined by Toothless who gave a humorous, cocky, grin on his face, "let's face it, they NEVER had a chance" he chuckled.

Galadriel snorted back as if to try and scare him and it worked for a bit: Toothless is momentarily startled as Flint laughs back. What he said is true though: yes, she had some cuts and some bruises, but most were minor injuries; however, then came the issue with her bleeding shoulder. Ultimately, the group SAVED her and the small community here on Dragon Island.

"The dragons are already finding some remedies to help her, don't worry. I'll help watch over her" Belin stated before Callahan nodded.

The group below congratulated each other but Fishlegs, meanwhile, appeared confused. Astrid took notice and walked up to him, "what's the matter?"

"Where's Mildew?"

"What do you mean?" She cocked her head back in response.

"Halfway through the battle…he just…vanished."

"I'm sure he's back with the others" Astrid reassured but Fishlegs still felt uneasy, "but that's the thing…I didn't see him leave with the others…"

"Well…we can search the island before we leave if it makes you feel better."

"I guess…" the chubby boy decided to drop it, "maybe I missed him somehow…"

Not long after, the Riders soon took to the skies to join the dragons (with Hiccup riding on Stormfly alongside Astrid.) Very soon after, though, he jumped off and landed on Toothless who welcomed him. Hiccup then placed a hand against the Queen's snout, "Berk is your ally and always will be."

"We ought to make sure the others make it back to Berk in one piece" Astrid suggested.

"Right" the boy nodded, gathering everyone together, "let's get going, gang!"

As everyone begins flying away, Flint Callahan lags behind…thinking about something. Toothless stopped, looking back. Soon after, he flies in to be beside the human-turned-dragon, "it's okay…stay with them."

The small dragon looked into his green eyes with concern, "are you sure?"

"All this exists 'cause of you. You're the reason the dragons here have a home…why this island is now a paradise for them and the Queen. Yes, I think…out of respect and honor…you should stay with them for tonight."

Flint shed a tear, smiling at his dragon brother…soon he nudges the larger Night Fury in response, "get back safe."

"We'll catch 'ya later, there'll be a warm COOKED fish, just how you like it, waiting for you at the Great Hall" Toothless smirked before flying off.

"Of course!" Flint closed his eyes and smiled, almost cutely.

"Make certain you get to Berk safe" the Ex-Queen gave a weak smile before Toothless nodded, "gotcha, please make sure Flint doesn't cause any trouble while I'm gone."

"Hey!" Flint growled back.

"We, and the dragons here…thank you for your help today and every day!" Belin added in, soon licking his eye.

Hiccup couldn't understand the grunts and warbles the dragons made but he knew that WildWing wanted to stay with the Queen…after seeing their previous interactions it made sense, "take care, Wild…please" the boy said before he and Toothless finally departed from Dragon Island. Flint and the other dragons there waved goodbye.

Not long after Flint slept beside Belin and Galadriel…content that he could now do so again in peace.

Meanwhile, the Berserker fleet made its way into the open ocean…on its way north. The boats were damaged and barely able to set sail. Nevertheless, the army began its long journey back to port.

On their main vessel, Captain Vorg ushered an old decrepit man into the bottom deck of the ship…where all prisoners are held.

It's Mildew…he is now being held captive by the Berserker tribe: having been taken in the middle of the battle.

Phew! That was a lot to take in. So much happened in this one chapter and I hope it resolved in a good way.

A note: there's new artwork for this story on my page "fefe46" (on Deviant Art) titled "How to Train your Dragon: Brothers (Fanfic) (Part 2).

Next update should be Friday (Sep 23rd). Unfortunately, busy season at work is starting to ramp up again, so updates might end up becoming slower as time goes on. There may be bi-weekly updates and even only monthly updates (like my other story 50,000 Volts.), so please keep that in mind.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this long-awaited chapter, take care!
