A/N- This is my first writing adventure so please leave a review I need all the feedback I can get.

This fic is a thought thats been rattling around in my head that I gave in and decided to write out and No I have no experience writing anything other than High school essays so sorry if it ends up a little unreadable. Ive taken a few ideas from Coeur Al'Aran he's too good of a writer to not take a hint from check out his work I highly recommend them.

This is a story of Nix alongside his team exploring the world of remnant alongside team RWBY but not necessarily with them. Basically what might've happened in RWBY if there was another team that seemed slightly capable.

Hope you enjoy till next time. :)

I guess it's finally time.

I had dreamed of this for a while, trained for the majority of my childhood, but to think I'm here at Beacon. I honestly didn't think I'd get accepted. I didn't attend a prep school after all. At the time, the excitement was overwhelming, though those feelings began to morph as the bullhead grew closer to Beacon.

The beautiful view of the city below might have helped me relax, especially because I'd never seen anything like it before growing up in a rural farming village. But my blackened armor never felt heavier like my chest plate, spaulder, and greaves were working together to crush me or hold me in place. I couldn't figure out which eilíf vörður weighed heavily on my waist, the sheathed blade acting like an anchor holding me to my seat.

And it was all because of that asshole that called himself a teacher, all I could hear were his parting words

"Oh I forgot to mention Beacon is really popular so even if you get accepted into the academy there is still an initiation to get through." a devilish grin practically split his face

"So don't go making me look bad and failing I will make you regret it and never let you live it down"

turning on his heels before I could respond that fucker walked away laughing and shouted,

"They only drop about thirty three percent of kids at initiation, you should be fine!"

My excitement was crushed in less than three sentences, replaced by this nervousness and worry that only seemed to get worse.

"Thirty-three percent?" I began to mumble to myself "Over a quarter of the people here, gods. I hope more people than this applied." How many apply anyway? There's no way this is it, right?

Scanning over the crowd ahead of me, my vision was assaulted by a mix of bright colors, weapons, and styles. The mix of strange people had managed to create a crowd where a normal person would stand out. A small figure on the opposite wall of the bullhead caught my eye.

Standing against a wall near a window was a smaller girl with a much larger staff on her back. Wearing a heavy denim vest with a black long-sleeved shirt that stopped just above her jeans, leaving a little bit of her midriff exposed. Along with simple blue jeans thank god they weren't acid-washed or pre-torn, and black sneakers everything was muted in color except for a teal sash tied around her waist and fingerless gloves that idly played with her long brown slightly curled hair that reached her mid-back.

Her head turned as two cerulean eyes gazed back at me, almost bored. I could feel the heat creeping up my neck as I caught myself staring. I went to wave as a sneer crept across her face with a look of … disgust? Within the next moment, she was gone fading behind the other students to no doubt the other side of the bullhead. I let my hand drop into my lap and let out a nervous breath of air that I hadn't realized I was holding. "What did I even do?"

Not even to Beacon, and I've already pissed someone off. wonderful if Teach ever found out he'd never let me live it down. I dropped my head into my hands. "Could this get any worse?"

As if to answer my thoughts, some blonde kid was chasing another student I saw earlier while gagging. Though his skin seemed a light shade of green. And I swear I could hear a faint gurgle sound as he suddenly vomited right in the middle of the bullhead onto her shoes.

Honestly, the sight of it all made me feel better why? Maybe it was nice knowing not everyone here was perfect or even confident, maybe I felt confident I could beat the vomiting blonde in a fight or maybe I'm just an asshole.

Or maybe it was the fact I could hear way more of that than I ever wanted causing me to forget my previous train of thought entirely as my ears picked up on a lot including the small gagging sounds the blonde produced mid spew as his lungs were expelling every bit of air he had to drive the foul substance from his body faster.

Never again do I want to hear the gurgle of someone trying to breathe mid vomit. I swear this hearing of mine is more of a curse than a boon.

I followed the crowd as badly as I felt for the puking blonde. It smelled horrid and it didn't look like he was done yet either. I rushed away refusing to subject myself to the sound he would surely make again. A minute later I found myself trapped in a sea of unrecognizable faces talking to one another.

Not really knowing where to go, I had followed the crowd and was now stuck in the middle of it. Everyone around me was either nervous like me or extremely excited. The only difference being they were in groups whether it was just two or a larger group of five they had others.

I'd never felt so alone.

It wasn't a feeling I was used to, my parents were wonderful and my family was large and my sisters a tad over protective. There was never much time to myself, not that I minded it. I enjoyed dealing with their hyperactive antics and pulling them out of trouble despite being adopted not once did i feel out of a place. Just thinking about them kept me distracted till I arrived at whatever building was intended. I hadn't been paying attention to much just following the crowd. God's, was I homesick already?

Everyone filed into a large stone room with a raised stage on one side. But there were so many people here. Are they all first years? As I was looking over the room I completely missed the two people that stepped up onto the stage. One I recognized the blonde woman that was on the display in the bullhead and an older man with a cane and stark white hair I'd never seen before. Who is he?

The older man cleared his throat and began to speak.

"I'll...keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge-to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people." … "But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose – direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

Then he turned and left and the blonde woman began speaking but I was too taken aback by what the man had said to listen. "Wasted energy huh?"

It took me a moment to realize I had even Said that out loud. What did that even mean? Is all of this a waste?

Before I realized it about half the room had emptied.

Shaking myself from my thoughts I started toward the door till I spotted a familiar flash of purple along the edge of the room.

"No way."

My excitement began to build as I heard it, that ever-familiar voice in the same lazy tone. all previous thoughts that plagued my head were gone in an instant. Yep it's him, a familiar face I'd hoped I would see here, my best friend who I hadn't seen in maybe little more than three years now.

Stood facing away from me, the fool. He had his treasured suit jacket a deep purple with matching slacks. Mohair I think he called the material. I still wasn't too sure what that was, he might have told me but I probably wasn't listening. A black tie sat around his neck on a white undershirt and a pair of black dress shoes to tie it all together. His hair sat at just above shoulder length with purple tips.

Upon silently closing the distance I realized he was in fact shorter than me, perfect even if it was only about two inches I shall forever hold it above his head. My giggles barely contained as I in one swift motion reached under his arms and jabbed a finger into both sides of his ribs.

Most people don't know Ty is extremely ticklish. The boy damn near lept out of his shoes with a yelp. I'm so glad some things never change. I leapt back now unable to contain my giggles as he lashed out at me. "Did ya miss me ty?"

He spun in place and met my gaze, his face morphed through a series of emotions first anger, realization, surprise then annoyance.

"nix you son of a bitch come here so I can get even."

Without an ounce of hesitation he lunged at me. Unfortunately, he hadn't realized the armor I wore covered all my ticklish spots. It didn't take long for him to realize the mistake but not quick enough to save him. I clamped down on him, holding him in place as I attacked him. Honestly, I would have kept him pinned if it hadn't been for someone calling out to us.

A light and cheery voice rang out. "As much as I would love to sit here and watch you torture him I'm pretty sure we're supposed to move to the next building."

Looking over stood a girl in a bright orange pair of overalls that had a giant pocket just under each knee with a simple black tube top and a pair of white hiking boots that stopped at her ankles. leaning forward a grin plastered on her face with amber eyes peeking out under a tomboyish Bob cut colored like a wildfire.

"uumm right." I released my grip on Ty who immediately darted away trying to get his breath back.

"you bastard .. I will have my revenge."

He spoke in between gasps as he tried to fix his suit and hair.

But what had my attention was the familiar figure behind the orange girl. It was the one from the bull head her eyes bored into me lips drawn into a thin line and an almost angry expression on her face. My hand flew to the back of my head as I looked down toward the ground

"Sorry I didn't mean anything bad."

The orange girl was confused for a moment. "hmm you don't need to.. " a look of realization dawned over her face as her head snapped back to the other girl and quickly slapped her arm. " stop that, don't be mean." she stepped closer to me.

"sorry about her, she's a little on edge, I'm Gwen."

she held her hand out. Thankful for the sign of friendship I took it in a heartbeat as she continued.

"The sour puss behind me is Iris, don't worry about her, she's not exactly a social butterfly." The girl in question swiftly slapped Gwen's shoulder as she continued not bothered by it in the slightest.

"I'd ask for your name but there's only one person I'm aware of that can do that to Ty and not end up in a body bag. You're Nix aren't you?"

I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. She seemed to force it out of me. "Yeah the one and only I guess you're friends with Ty then?" The group began to make its way out of the building.

"yep I met him at lodestar academy and felt the need to be nice to him after I kept kicking his ass in sparring." A grin spread across her face as she looked over at Ty.

"As I remember it, you lost just as many matches to me." Giggling she instantly responded.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night." Ty hunched over letting out a deep sigh

"I hate you both right now."

Gwen seemed nice, definitely the talkative type of girl. But what surprised me was Ty. He used to be so Withdrawn never talked much but he was just as talkative as Gwen. I guess some things do change. Iris however hadn't said much and I don't know if I'm imagining it or not but she put as much distance between us as possible without leaving the group. Even as we set up our sleeping bags for the night she had Gwen and Ty between us. I still haven't heard her so much as speak yet.

Being from a family of exclusively farmers I had a few habits others didn't. Like waking up at times others considered far too early, the sun wasn't up yet and I wasn't gonna be able to go back to sleep. As much as I loved them, my family refused to start the day without me regardless of how late I was up the night before.

Quietly slipping out of my bag rolling it up without waking anyone up. Even Ty wasn't awake, lucky bastard.

Sneaking off wasn't all that hard but I had Gwen to thank for that. She sounded like she was trying to cut a tree down with a chainsaw.

The halls of Beacon were practically abandoned. I showered, changed, and wandered for a good thirty minutes till I ran into a janitor starting his work day. using the directions he gave me I found my way to the cafeteria. Empty except for the employees in the kitchen it was strange seeing such a big school so empty and quiet.

But I needed the time to think and calm myself. My hands found their way to a small handkerchief in my pocket. black and blue plaid with Nix embroidered in the corner with a much smaller cursive A just underneath it, a gift from my sister Alyssa. The small square of fabric always calmed me as memories came flooding in every time I held it. Their smiling faces and the excitement they carried with them everywhere they went. The way they looked to me like anything I did or tried I'd always come back okay.

I couldn't go back to them having failed. I couldn't handle disappointing them even if they wouldn't admit the way they felt and urge him to try again.

Next time we meet I will be a student of Beacon. That I promise.

Ty wasn't surprised when he awoke to find Nix was gone; he was always up early. A side effect of his family trying to include him in everything and make him feel like one of them. Honestly, he thought it adorable, that and with Gwen on his left, he was pretty sure an elephant could have snuck up on him in his sleep.

Taking a moment to shake Gwen awake. Her immediate reaction was to roll on top of Iris drowsily groaning

"nooooo I don't wanna!"

Iris instantly woke up due to the new weight that rolled onto her chest.

"what the… GWEN get off me!"

She started to struggle, unable to lift the orange-haired girl who rather than move off of her decided to curl into a ball on her chest. After a good minute of Iris hitting Gwen and me not managing to suppress my laughter, Iris managed to pull herself out from under Gwen to freedom.

The two were definitely awake and the grin on Gwen's face suggested she wasn't quite as out of it as she wanted us to believe much to Iris's annoyance.

Well, at least this is a decent promise for an interesting year.

"Come on you two, let's get going before we get left behind by everyone else, and we should find nix. He tends to get into trouble on his own." quickly collecting her sleeping bag Gwen hopped up

"Oh? Don't tell me he tickles everyone he sees before regardless of whether he's met them or not. Oooh, what if he does it to a teacher?" I'd be lying If I said the thought of it didn't make me giggle. Nix getting detention on the first day here for 'attacking' a staff member.

Knowing Nix's luck, if he did decide to do it he'd end up randomly picking for some dumb reason like she looked the grumpiest. And if his gut was right she was probably the strictest teacher at Beacon.

"No he's not that hopeless while I will admit that it was surprising I did the same thing to him before I left. Honestly, I've had that coming for about three years now." Man, three years huh? Hell, three years ago I was a little taller than him. I guess the saying is true time flies.

"Do we have to?"

The conversation came to a screeching halt, the girl seemed to shrink a bit under our gaze. "I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just not comfortable around him."

with a deep sigh Gwen beat me to a response. "Iris I understand but come on he's different aside from being Ty's childhood friend he's definitely not a bad guy." Dropping her head in defeat "Ok I'm sorry just ignore me."

Shooting Gwen a questioning look she simply shook her head the meaning was clear, not right now. Giving Iris one last look we moved on joining the morning crowd to the showers and changing rooms eventually making our way to the cafeteria.

Gwen was walking backwards talking to Iris apparently the two had kept in contact after Gwen moved. Gwen was talking about how she and Iris first met the other girl, chipping in to correct a detail or add her own.

When a guy we passed suddenly stepped closer and shoulder checked Gwen hard.

Gwen stumbled back unprepared for the shove. Iris caught her before she could fall. The guy let out a chuckle as he walked past "So you're just as much of a push over huh?" I was too surprised to react being caught off guard entirely. I mean who just does shit like that? The guy has short light brown hair with a larger build.

"I'll remember him for later." I whispered to the girls.

"Only if I get to help." Gwen looked at me with a devilish grin spreading across her face.

"deal but let's get some food first we can torture him another day." I was surprised at the amount of excitement I had at the prospect of exacting revenge but my stomach had other ideas.

The room was filled with drowsy students still waking up, wait was that coffee? "yes!" My excitement startled the other two "Sorry they uhh ... they have coffee." Their only response was to shake their head and let out a little giggle.

"You have a problem, you know that right?" Gwen started pushing me away from the already claimed caffeinated cups. "What? I'm not so bad I'd steal other people's coffee, and it's not a problem just a preference of drink." she just rolled her eyes and pushed me toward the breakfast line.

"There he is." It took us a minute to find Nix after getting breakfast he was sat in a corner of the cafeteria on his own. No tray in front of him or anything for that matter just a roll of paper towels just out of arm's reach down the table as we got closer he was rubbing his hands through his hair. "You good man?" He jumped in his seat slightly and spun to look at us

"huh? Oh yeah sorry I didn't wake you guys I got up pretty early." He just smiled back as we sat at the table around him.

"Nyo foob?" Gwen asked through a mouthful of waffles Iris wasted no time in scolding her. "At least swallow your food before you speak." resting his head in his hands nix responded

"Nah, I got my food a bit ago. I was the first one here." he awkwardly scratched the back of his head as his ears flattened and stayed down.

"Hah called it your family still has you on their schedule huh?" I slapped Nix's shoulder playfully but the last thing I expected was for my hand to come back a little sticky "What's on you Armour dude?"

He jumped back a little and reached for the paper towels "Ah shit sorry I spilled some chocolate milk on me a bit ago. I must have missed some sorry." He had an awkward smile as he hurried to clean his Armour. Looking across both Gwen and Iris had a suspicious look in their eye then shot me a questioning glare. I shrugged at them.

He seemed fine for the most part at least. Iris dropped it but Gwen held my gaze. She seemed unsure and a little worried until Nix finished and turned his attention back on us. Finally dropping her gaze Gwen immediately turned to Nix, a toothy grin spread across her face

"So, got any funny stories about little old ty over here?"

Damn it I should've known it'd be one of the first things she'd ask, and judging by the evil grin on nix's face I'm not about to be spared. It was then as if an angel crying out to save me the PA system blared to life. "All first year students please make your way to the cliffs for initiation, thank you." Gwen huffed as we all finished our food and made our way out of the cafeteria safe from social destruction for at least a few more hours.

"So nix you were about to tell me a story?"

Son of a bitch.
