Sooo... I have a Fairy Tail OC that I wanted to do something with from a RP a couple years back- a crystal dragon slayer that came from before the 400 year time skip in the Fairy Tail manga. I wanted a new dragon slayer that didn't have any connection to Fairy Tail, but he would have a reason to have 'died' outside of the Dragon Wars. thus, Axel Reyfalke was born! also, the whole thing where Arya became Firnen's rider was always predictable to me- it was kind of a given seeing as the two major human lynchpins of the war were humans, both with the potential to be magically gifted due to having Rider parents, so Arya was kind of a 'duh' thing to me. also... I don't really like Arya as a character- she always seemed too... intense in her ways I guess. though her whole point of ferrying the blue egg around was to see the world, but I stand by my opinion. SO This story, By Crystal and Flame, will be a rewrite from mid-Eragon onwards to be an AU- Axel has Firnen, who will be renamed, hatch for him instead of Arya, and takes the red egg with him. later on, Axel and his dragon will encounter other key people from the books, building an alliance of his own as he moves along. Save for some name drops and flashbacks, there isn't much connection to the Fairy Tail world, which is why it's not really in the Crossover section. Anyways, I hope you all like it!
The capital was in an uproar. Not even fifty years ago, a priceless treasure had gone missing, and now a second and third one had been stolen again, right under the King's nose. He stood, shaking with fury as he stared at his pedestal, empty of the remaining red and green treasures that once resided atop it's surface. First the blue, then the green and red. This was unacceptable. Closing his eyes, the king of the castle cast out his senses, looking for a rouge in the hundreds of minds he had surrounding his castle and residing within.
There it was.
A flicker of green racing away faster than even a dragon flew, it's hidden power concealed by what seemed to be a veil of shimmering crystal and gem.
"Durza… you failed to get me the Blue back… fetch me the last two, or it is on your head."
"…Sire"
Golden eyes snapped open as a cry ripped from the eighteen-year-old's throat and he shot upright. Panting harshly, the young man looked around frantically, but the only signs of movement were scattered leaves littering the damp stone around him. Axel Reyfalk winced as he felt the soreness of his back as he sat back on his palms and let out a sigh. "Well, I'm alive- that Crystal Dragon's Fleet-Foot Step was no joke…" he said, both relieved and shocked with himself. The empty cave he was in gave no reply, and the lone teen's echo bounced around until it left through the mouth of the cave. With a groan, Axel pushed himself to his feet haphazardly, arms pin-wheeling as he regained his balance and began to actually look at his surroundings, instantly seeing his weapon, a seven-foot green and black, glass-like scythe, leaning against the cave wall. His hands drifted to his sides, and he felt worn leather and cold crystal- his daggers were where they should be, thank Belsarion.
The wheels in his head began turning when he realized that he was in an unknown place. Within a cave of some sort, and the sounds of dripping water echoing from the back confirmed he had a source of water; if he had to hole up here, he'd have something to drink, at least.
To his right, a satchel laid haphazardly on the ground and the silver-haired young man stumbled towards it. As he moved, he squeezed his eyes shut, and Axel forced himself to think. Figure out where you are, he thought to himself. Find clues as to what you're doing here, and explore the surrounding area to familiarize with the territory. Then find food, water and shelter before going from there. The seventeen year old took a breath and let it out slowly, feeling his shakiness slow and then stop completely. Reaching out, he grasped the strap of the satchel and picked it up to look through its insides, make sure everything was still there as he slid down on the wall. Luckily, he found with no shortness of relief that his medical supplies, the item his mother gave to him before she passed- an instrument called an ocarina-, spare provisions…and the stone- the dragon egg, he had stolen his very first five minutes in this world on instinct. Seems he was fine so far…
The ocarina was a beautiful black and amethyst, the paint still shining and glossy over the fired clay as he remembered when his mother played it for him all those years ago; he let a few tears slip in relief when he saw no damage had come to it. With a sigh, the teen put the ocarina back and pulled the green and red eggs out of his satchel, pushing off the wall to made his way to the light around the corner, getting used to walking again as he went.
"You'd best hope that outside doesn't look as bad as it did when I was fighting dragons, squirts," Axel said to the egg-encased dragons cradled in his arms. "I had to fight Zirconis once- an interesting but pretty pervy dragon, though it was a shame he had to be… you know…" Axel chuckled nervously, reaching out with his magic to check on the two dragons in their eggs as he walked. Surprisingly, the little babe in the green egg reached back to him, almost questioningly, while the red egg's dragon gave the impression of squeezing their eyes shut tight, bracing for something bad.
"Hey, there," Axel said gently to the red egg. "Don't worry, you're safe. You were in a… room that I personally thought felt bad, so I got you out. I hope you don't mind me carrying you for a bit…"
The green egg rocked before falling still, and Axel smiled before looking to the light.
He reached the mouth of the cave and his eyes automatically crashed closed at the brightness, the man raising his arm to shield himself. After a minute Axel worked his catlike amber eyes open and gasped.
There were mountains and forests all around him, no sign that massive human-eating dragons had ravaged the lands, and near the center of them a small pond. Axel was in just the right position to see over the other side of the range- there was an ocean on one side, and on the other, a desert past a flat and sort of marshy-looking plain. Mist curled down from the clouds as if to caress his head and welcome him to wherever this place was, and birds cawed and chirped as they flew by in an array of colors both bright and dull. The sounds and smells and sights were many and enormous in amount, but Axel found himself not caring. Taking a dazed step forward, the teen reached up to the sun overhead with a growing smile on his face.
The warmth, the light, the life.
He could feel everything. There wasn't any smog or the sounds of magic screeching or people screaming as they died, as the near remnants of humanity eked out an existence. No evil dragons or wyverns thundering past that he had to charge in to kill- he never liked killing the dragons- he was raised by one, for Animus' sake!
"This is incredible," Axel muttered, laughing wildly and running his fingers through snowy bangs.
Grinning, he raised the emerald and ruby eggs to the sunlight, hoping the little hatchlings within could feel it as well.
Something growled and Axel instantly got into a fighting stance. Bringing around his scythe in one hand while clutching the two eggs in the other, he bent his knees and spread his stance to make himself appear larger, but no one was around. The sound came again, and Axel flushed at when he realized that he was just hungry, lowering his large scythe sheepishly.
Then a second sound, a chirp, followed by a tapping- ratatatat.
Axel's eyes widened, focusing on the only thing that could be making the racket- one of the eggs was hatching- the green one. Setting the emerald egg on the ground and patting the red egg blindly, Axel backed away as cracks and chirps and growls became more and more frequent, until, with a splitting crack, the egg flew to pieces, and in its place was a small, emerald dragon the size of a large housecat.
"Well, hello, there~!" Axel cooed, watching as the dragon licked the membrane and fluids from its wings. The little hatchling blinked up at him and the boy gasped. Golden eyes, reminiscent of the sun, just like his own… Axel was willing to bet that if he were a dragon, he would probably look like this one here.
The little green tottled around, sniffing at various stones and leaves on the ground before turning to Axel himself. Its tiny nose twitched, working out his scent, before it tottered closer. Axel reached out a hand to pick the dragon up, and the moment he came into contact, a flash of light erupted behind his eyes. The jarring crash of thunder and a surge of ice under his veins left him gasping- it felt like a Lightning Dragon had used him as a rod!
When he finally came to, the little green dragon was on his chest, chirping and nuzzling the lapels of his shirt.
"Well, then…" Axel muttered breathlessly. "That…was quite the introduction." Axel grunted as he sat up, nudging the hatchling off him and looking at the hand he had touched the dragon with, the left, which was tingling. A strange silvery mark, tinged with the faintest of iridescent greens, had seared itself into his palm and looked like the inside of an oyster shell in it's rainbow-like glory. Axel moved his fingers cautiously, and when he made sure that no more damage was made other than surface level, he nodded.
Relaxing and letting out a breath Axel surveyed the area once more and found the river, probably half a mile away from his point on the mountainside and at the foot of the earth-made mass. With a groan, Axel realized he'd have to walk to and from the river if he wanted a meal of fish for himself and the new hatchling. Stretching out his arms, Axel took off towards the lake at the bottom of the small valley paradise, the little green perched squarely on his head. First order of business before I really sit down to think, is water and food… water comes first, otherwise we'll die in a week.
