Chapter eleven:
I decide that I need to stick to the right morals. I have myself set up to a good point that I don't need to be threatened to do something I would have done for her as a friend… If she didn't do this. "No." I stare at her as I can tell that she is shocked that I would say that. "I would have done it if you had actually come to me as a genuine friend. However I will not let myself be threatened into doing something." I get up from my seat. "If you get in by yourself then great for you, I mean that genuinely. However you will not be getting my help. Also you can keep that project. I have moved on to other things." I turn away and head to my class leaving Haruhi sitting there staring stunned after me. I try to not show it though I am really hoping that I had made the correct decision in this. All I know is that I cannot go back on this choice that I have gone with. I shake it off and get to my work station getting to work to allow myself to focus on other things than what had just happened.
What's the worst that could happen from this?
…
That night I am sitting in bed looking out the window in me and Hikaru's room while I am pretty sure that Hikaru is sleeping next to me. I can't get what had happened out of my head.
"Kaoru?"
I blink in surprise and turn to Hikaru finding that he is actually awake.
"What's wrong?" Hikaru sits up rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
I should have known that I couldn't just keep this to myself to not worry Hikaru. I let out a breath turning to the window as I explain to Hikaru about what had happened.
Hikaru sits there quietly to listen on this and out of the corner of my eye I do notice that one of his hands clench the quilt on the bed. "She had no right to do that." He mutters in anger after I have finished telling him about it. "You should tell that professor of yours about what happened. She doesn't deserve to be in such a program for that kind of behaviour."
I do agree with Hikaru however I could see how much it meant to Haruhi to get into the program and I couldn't help feeling some sympathy towards her. "I'll think about it." I turn to look to a clearly angry slightly older twin brother of mine.
"I strongly suggest you do that. At least have a conversation with him about it." Hikaru tells me moving one hand to put an arm around me.
I lean into him and we stay up for a bit until I feel settled enough to be able to lay with him and fall asleep finally.
The next day…
I knock on Professor Jamie's office door feeling hesitant about this.
"Come in."
I come inside finding Jamie looking up from something that he is working on. I get a warm smile. "How can I help you today Kaoru?" He greets with the same friendliness as anytime before with him.
"I wanted to talk to you about Haruhi." I admit walking closer and I get a go ahead nod from him to encourage me to talk to him. "Professor. I am not going to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. I just wanted to let you know about what happened just yesterday. She is my friend but I agree with my brother about not accepting this behaviour. Even if she really looks like she could benefit from such a program." I proceed to explain and I do notice a shift in my professor's gaze at this. I can't fully read what it is though.
Jamie is quiet for a moment before finally speaking about this. "Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I had been thinking about her application. And as much as I know you probably want the best for her and her future I cannot allow this behaviour to enter into my classroom."
"I understand." I slightly bow to show my understanding. "Thank you for listening."
"Thank you for informing me." Jamie stands up from his chair as I rise from the bow. "And Kaoru?" He begins causing me to blink at him. "Don't you worry about telling me about what had happened. You did the right thing."
I nod and Jamie gives me another smile then I head to get to work on my projects actually feeling better about this.
Meanwhile….
Haruhi walks into the club room finding the host club sitting and facing her in chairs with disappointing, angry, and even judgemental expressions written all over them.
Kyouya clears his throat as if taking the role of informing Haruhi of the news. "Haruhi. You no longer have to worry about anything you may owe to us." He begins which gets Haruhi a bad gut feeling. "You are being kicked out of the host club. You can keep anything we may have given you. However you will no longer be allowed in the club room anymore. I will leave it up to everyone to decide if they still wish to be your friend."
Tamaki, who has a dark angry look on his face, speaks up before Kyouya can continue. "Friends don't threaten other friends. You clearly care more about your future than your friendship. You should have known that Kaoru would have been happy to help you as a friend." He sniffles as tears appear in his eyes. "However you couldn't help yourself. You ruined things and now you can gather anything that is yours in here. You can keep the uniform and everything. We just want you out of this club room."
Haruhi looks like she knows that she cannot argue about this. She truly had let her jealousy for Kaoru's position and her desire to get to her dream no matter what take over her making her make a poor decision. "I understand." She lowers her head keeping her voice calm. She turns away. "I don't have anything left in here. Thank you for giving me a chance." She just leaves the clearly tense room as it is felt in the air. She thinks about what other clubs she might join instead. She'll have to start all over with any sort of friendships. She is at least glad that her punishment was only being kicked out of the club room.
A few nights later….
Haruhi is flipping through the mail when she pauses at a letter from Professor Jamie. She opens it and frowns a bit at seeing that her application declined. She lets out a breath having secretly hoped that that Kaoru had not told him about it… She had her doubts that he would have and she seems to be right that he said something.
Even if perhaps it may have been by Hikaru's suggestion to do so.
Haruhi wonders what the future may hold for her now.
