Chapter Three: Devil's Advocate (WHAT! TWO CHAPTERS IN ONE DAY?!, Yeah, I felt I owed you guys.)
Assassin was sitting in the corner of the room, his back against the wall, His left leg lying on the ground while his right leg was over the left. He propped up his right leg using it as an armrest for his right arm as he was forced to listen to Rin tell Shiro-Baka how the Grail war works. Saber Was paying attention to Rin as well: due to her improper summoning. Saber caught on quickly and started paying more attention to the resting teen Assassin in the corner by the door.
She took Stock of his equipment since he didn't bother taking it off, as no real Assassin would. She could see the glints of his metal feathers concealed in this red coat, there was also something on his back, but she could only see a slight corner of Bright red.
She took note of the chain on his pant leg, heroic spirits especially assassins didn't go for aesthetics a large amount of the time, so the chain was there for a reason.
The last thing she noticed or saw was that the assassin had slight animalistic features, like how his ears, while the size of a humans, had slight points to them like the dark elf species, and she saw how he had slightly larger K9 fangs when he yawned. But she couldn't for the life of her figure out who he was.
What Aggravated her more was knowing that the Assassin; even though he hadn't said it out loud, had likely figured out who she was, or at least had an idea. 'If my gender was actually male, he would definitely know who I am, but who is he?' she was screaming in her head.
It bothered her so much because she knew who he was, she could tell, but she couldn't think of where he was from or who he was, it was dangling in front of her face but she couldn't grasp it.
"..And that's the jist of it, any more questions." Rin looked like she was getting tired of all the questions, but knew there was nothing she could do about it. He was essentially a novice after all.
"Assassin, I apologize, but it looks like we're going to the church." the teen Assassin just huffed. "It's not your fault, Master. I figured we would have to eventually. I just wished to prolong it as long as possible." He stood up and walked to the door, with Saber following in his footsteps.
While Assassin made no effort to hide, Saber on the other hand put on a yellow raincoat to hide her gear. And Rin led them to the church. "I'm not excited for this." he spoke out-loud even if he was talking to himself. Saber looked at the taller assassin and asked "why do you dislike churches so much?" Assassin shrugged slightly and said "Sorry can't tell, secret name and all"
'I was hung in a church. Twice… they don't need to know that.' The assassin thought to himself.
Saber was still trying to figure him out, everything about him Screamed to her, something extremely familiar, but the thing that stood out the most was his distaste of churches, while it seemed random, it actually spoke volumes to her. She was actively trying to connect the dots, back in her Era the Church was an important symbol to many people, there were not many who were displeased with the sacred place. This was a large tell for who he was… EXCEPT SHE COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT!
They had Arrived at the church and the servants both waited outside, one patiently the other begrudgingly.
Even if he wasn't there willingly, he decided to grab information Via observation, and hypothesis. For example, He could sense Lancer watching them from the church grounds, meaning, just like what he knew from his time, Kirei was his master, and that information hadn't changed, meaning everything was still on track in hypothesis.
Assassin looked to his right at the girl in the yellow raincoat, and decided to humor her. "Saber, I'll put it quite simply, I know just about everything about you, minus your actual Identity, so I'll give you a hint, I was Hung in a church when I died."
Saber at first had a look of confusion until he started to talk, and now his distaste of churches made sense, and she had a clue, heroic spirits that were Hung were rare, most died in Epic circumstances, or Tragic betrayal. The possibilities of his identity was greatly narrowed. She watched him carefully as he pulled a metal feather out of his coat and his eyes seemed to be peering far away.
Assassin. Grim, was caught up in his thoughts, spinning a metal feather on the tip of his finger, thinking of his own past,
Flashback 4th century; skies above what will be Camelot
Black wings with faded red metallic tips spread in the skies, the floating islands around the boy damaged and crumbling, like the skies themselves are bleeding.
The rocks tumbling down to the blood-soaked grass below. Bodies litter the ground, Sharpened feathers sticking out of some, Giant slashes and cuts in others. The boy's slightly larger but still sharp ears sticking out.
His left eye was bleeding, the right eye, shedding a single tear. The Boy looked down to his right hand, the handle to the large curved blade in his hand.
"The Advocate of the Devil consumes all in its path, in its wake it leaves nothing but death and streaks of red. The Raven who Ravages never surrenders, Never lets up. The Stars of Corvus Light the way to the death of the many, and life to very few. Beware the night, for when the Raven is released, it gives no Mercy."
Present time
Assassin opened his eyes to reach and feel a small cylinder on his back
'The Stars of Corvus, Light the way to the death of the many, and life to very few.' he Repeated in his own head
Saber couldn't help but notice his glazed over eyes in his flashback state, The two master's finally exited the church. Rin Immediately noticed that Assassin was glaring at the church and was despondent clutching something on the small of his back.
"Assassin?" The tall boy regained focus and nodded to his master as he moved his hand away from his back. He looked to his master, his look already asking the question.
"Yes we're leaving Assassin." The boy just nodded in affirmation 'Time to deal with Hercules' Grim thought to himself, he couldn't help but feel his body tense, this was going to either be a hard ass fight, or if he was underestimated, an easy fight. He knew either way He was going to show something early in the war.
Grim reached for the small of his back again as his mind focused to a point.
Rin noticed immediately that Assassin stayed tense, more than usual, and reached for the small of his back a second time, Saber too was watching the servant she was currently in an alliance with, she could see his muscles coiled and ready to strike at any moment, like a cat about to pounce, or a Peregrine Falcon about to dive down on its prey.
Grim then saw it, the large bulky form of the berserker servant climbing over the hill with Illyasviel von Einzbern. Grim wasn't listening when Illya was introducing herself, he moved his hand away from the small of his back, as Saber shifted her feet, he grabbed 4 metal glowed with a different color light, a royal blue, a scarlet red, a darker purple, and finally a Pale blue, almost white.
That's when it happened, Berserker pounced, But The Assassin pounced first, the first feather that flew was the glowing red, the blade piercing into the servant and bursting into brilliant scarlet flames with blue whisps, the second blade landed exactly where the first hit, forming ice stopping the servant from moving and by extension healing. The Blade glowing purple connected with the arm, a black portal with a purple outline appeared, and cut off the Servants frozen arm. The last blade, the pale blue feather, flew and connected, what happened next surprised everyone, the Blade produced a large Vacuum Bubble, with wind swirling around so fast it broke the Ice the servant was trapped in, and cut its actual body.
"What the hell was that!" Shiro yelled out.
"Magic you moron." The Assassin responded, before refocusing on the Berserker.
'I know what you are Berserker, I'm not letting my guard down when you still have all 12 labors, Hercules' The Raven haired assassin spoke in his head.
The Servant started to glow, and revive, his limbs and flesh regenerating.
"Wow, a servant actually put a scratch on my berserker and it wasn't Saber, Amazing, but can you handle another round?" Illya was bouncing in her spot on the street. Assassin's eyes narrowed.
He knew this would normally be a harder fight, but she had seemingly told Berserker to hold back, just like he was without telling Rin, or underestimating him. "Fine, then I guess I'll release a limiter then."
"A limiter?" The Masters and Saber Servant thought to themselves, Even Rin was surprised that he was limiting himself, until she saw him reach his hand to the small of his back under his Jacket, he pulled out a Black Baton with red accents that extended into a staff. He spun the staff until it was in front of himself when he held his other and out and spoke
"Devil's Advocate: Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum"
The red on the Staff Glowed and a blood Red Blade sprouted from the staff, extending it into a Scythe. The assassin spun it until the blade rested behind him as Hercules got back up. Grim Rushed in the Blood red Blade of the scythe glowing a Dull Blue color, the Berserker also rushed forward at the assassin.
The Behemoth blade clashed with the Shaft of the Scythe, Grim was practically dancing around the Berserker with a gleaming spinning blade, that's when it happened.
As they were picking up speed, The assassin Smirked.
"You Played your hand… Hercules."
That statement seemed to enrage the berserker. The Limits that were imposed by order onto the servant lifted slightly, while maintaining the fast striking speed, his power in strength increased. The berserker hit the Staff as hard as he was allowed to hit, causing the Assassin to be launched back.
The assassin executed a mid-air backflip, and landed on his feet. The Assassin's face gained a slightly angry scowl as he spun the scythe above his head, and positioned it behind his back, and stood still, goading the bull that was Berserker toward him. The berserker Charged and mid stride; it happened. Suddenly Assassin was gone in a flash, appearing beside the behemoth.
There was a red flash from the Blade slashing, and Berserker's head was Cut clean off his shoulders. Falling on the ground 6 feet away with a Thud.
Grim may have whispered it, but Rin and Saber did indeed hear the Assassin say the servants name, Rin couldn't help but realize what he meant by that, while Saber looked astonished that it was so simple for the Servant to find out the true identity of another servant quickly and easily.
This made her realize that her gender was the only thing Keeping her true Identity, and The assassin likely already suspects her as the former "King" of Britten.
The master of the Berserker now was getting worried, as the servant was regenerating with his 11th Labor and his head regrew, she was starting to realize that she truly was outclassed by this servant, and he wasn't even the Saber. She decided to Recall the Berserker and make a tactical retreat, The assassin saw this and recalled his Scythe back into its Baton form, and put it away.
"Master of Berserker." He addressed her. The girl looked at the Tall servant.
"The next time you attack us, I will no longer be holding back, I have 3 limiter's, You only faced the first Limit off." Illya looked genuinely disturbed by that fact.
"I am The Servant Assassin, and I won't hesitate to take all 12 next time, Illyasviel Von Einzbern, remember that."
The Assassin Turned around.
"Master, let us head home." The Assassin then disappeared into his astral form in a wisp of red Mana. Walking away from the scene.
"I was right, That was fun"
