There had been no plan, no scheme, the Curious Cat had just spotted a boy sunbathing on the endless shore, and smirked before strutting up to him, wondering what had fallen down here this time.
It walked onto the beach and saw countless paw prints.
Fear.
Overwhelming terror, froze the paws of the creature.
When, when the Cat would interact with the boy, it would gain knowledge.
Every question the Curious Cat, the creature created to discover everything unknown, ever had or would have, would be answered by the boy.
The paws started to fade away as countless echoes answered every possible question.
When the Cat was done, when the Cat was satisfied and could not utter a single question more, its existence would fade away.
It would complete its reason for living.
Satisfaction, a state of being for humans and death for the Curious Cat.
A single square remained, and a single question rose above all else.
"Why?"
That should be enough, with just this an infinite amount of questions could be generated since there was no all encompassing answer. Every answer could just be questions again and again, an never ending question and answer, with this it should remain alive.
"You wouldn't get it. The Brothers didn't give you the ability to love, to place faith in the unknown. Your being can only comprehend logic and reason, sure you get emotional but you don't have emotions. The answer that you seek is forever out of your reach."
The boy didn't open his eyes, or even acknowledge the Cat's presence as he spoke.
"—"
No more questions, the Cat didn't understand the answer that was given, but… but… nothing else came to mind.
The boy yawned and stretched as he stood up, he walked over countless paw prints among the sand. "I'm feeling good right now, so I'll leave without cutting down the tree this time."
