Ruby Rose was having a somewhat good day.
She aced all the surprise tests that were held at Signal Academy that day thanks to a certain someone, she managed to escape her sister's final attempts at trying to set Ruby up with a new friend before she headed for Beacon, She even managed to get her hands on the limited edition Huntsman monthly catalog that was almost always sold out.
This meant that she promptly opened the magazine and started reading it on the spot with her headphones on.
Then, everything went to hell.
The first sign of trouble showed up when the girl was interrupted from her enjoyment by a guy rudely pulling on her shoulder and motioning her to remove her headphones.
Then, he promptly went flying the moment she realized he and his associates were trying to rob the store, and by extension, her.
Being the good Huntress-in-Training that she was, she took it upon herself to handle these low-tier thugs by herself.
But then, the boss of the thugs, one Roman Torchwick, turned out to be Huntsman-trained, albeit an average one.
Still, the man had age and the experience that came with it, allowing him to easily evade the girl and try to escape.
Then things became even more complicated when the escaping thief ended up evading a Warhammer blow to his head by a single centimeter. The force behind the blow generated enough wind to blow off his hat and have his forehead covered in cold sweat in absolute terror of what would have happened if the blow had connected.
"H-Heh, a friend of yours? Red?"
"Nope, but after that display, I sure hope she is willing to be one."
"Nice one, Red. I'm Nora, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, I am Ruby. Let's get him."
"Hehe, let's go."
"….Kids these days are really weird!"
The ginger-haired girl grinned maliciously as her hammer shifted to become a larger-than-average grenade launcher, spooking the thief into double timing out of the place, all the while, Nora rained hellfire on the streets through the liberal use of Fire dust ammo.
Taking Nora's actions as an indication, Ruby shifted her scythe into its sniper rifle configuration and started taking shots at the thief who was now running for his life, regretting ever getting out of his hideout that night.
But the girl's happy time came to an end when a Bullhead arrived at the end of the street's intersection, allowing the thief to climb up the airship and ask for backup from the woman inside.
Of course, the moment the woman arrived at the open cargo bay doors to take out the 'pests', she ended up eating a face full of High-caliber Dust rounds and Fire Dust grenades, forcing her on the back foot.
And just in time for a full-fledged huntress wearing business clothes and a skirt with a purple cloak to land on the street, attacking the Bullhead with her full power.
Recognizing the situation for what it was, the woman inside the bullhead did not even bother to fight back and instead directed Torchwick to take them out of the area immediately.
This was how both the girls found themselves in the current situation.
"I hope you two realize the amount of damage you two have caused today, especially you, Ms. Valkyrie."
"Ehehe, sorry, Ms. Goodwitch. But the blame lies with that thief, he was threatening little Ruby over here and was about to rob her."
"Yeah, he was-Wait! I am not little! I drink milk!"
Nora raised a brow in doubt, forcing the red reaper to pout at the table, unable to come up with a counter.
"Enough. If it were up to me, I would have you detained for the night, Ms. Valkyrie, if only to drive the concept of consequences into your mind. And for you Ms. Rose, I would have sent you back home, with a pat on the back, and a slap on the wrist. But a certain someone has other ideas."
The questioning looks from both the girls soon changed when three men entered the room.
While Ruby's look changed to that of a meek child who was about to be scolded, Nora's face went white as a sheet as she gave an ugly smile worse than crying at the two of the three men who were radiating a menacing aura.
"H-Hey guys, fancy meeting you here-"
"Nora Valkyrie, how about we take it to another room?"
Nora Valkyrie's adrenalin spiked as she heard those words from one Jaune Arc, especially when he used her full name which indicated that he was beyond furious. She knew this as she saw the man as her big brother growing up wandering all across Anima.
Realizing that things were beyond bad, she immediately turned to the only person who could plead mercy on her behalf and was dealt another fatal blow to her livelihood.
"You are getting nothing but my healthy diet special for the next two weeks, Nothing else."
At Ren's words, Nora felt her world collapse around her and promptly responded with a wail that was similar to someone who had lost everything in one fell swoop, this also had the unintended consequence of spooking poor Ruby into tears as she continued looking at the interaction between the three with a terrified expression, imagining the talk she would undoubtedly have with her own family that night.
Then her mind recalled exactly who the last man in the room, the silver-haired old man was. Scenario after scenario came to her mind where the situation devolved further, including the imaginary threat of Ozpin banning her from ever applying to Beacon if things became really bad.
Then, Ruby Rose, badass Huntress-in-Training and future defender of Remnant, broke down wailing as well as she imagined her father taking away her cookies, and school Forge privileges and barring her from ever entering her dream school.
The room descended into absolute pandemonium as Ozpin, the headmaster of Beacon Academy, and his deputy, Glynda Goodwitch, panicked and tried to calm down the distraught Rose while Jaune Arc and Lie Ren rolled their eyes at Nora's cries and dragged her into another room to continue their own interrogation.
One thing was certain for the Headmaster and the Deputy. This year was going to be a very interesting one for Beacon.
The bad evening did not end for Ruby Rose. In fact, the bad evening turned into a bad week.
The day after the incident, somehow, the details were leaked to the entirety of Signal Academy, causing Ruby's peers to look at her in a new light. Some in positive, some in negative and others not caring at all.
In the end, the introverted girl with few friends ended up becoming even more introverted and was isolated from the rest of her peers.
Fortunately, this state of things would soon become irrelevant since she would be transferring to Beacon next week, at the age of 15.
And based on the behavior of her classmates, things were not looking up for the little red reaper.
The only solace Ruby could take in this entire debacle was that she would at least have some people to talk to at Beacon, excluding her sister.
After Ozpin and Goodwitch were done consoling the distraught girl, Ruby learned that Nora was an applicant at Beacon and would be participating in the Initiation test. This put Ruby in high spirits since she felt that the older girl was someone who was easy to get along with. After she accepted Ozpin's offer to attend Beacon, she ran into Nora on the way out who looked like the entire world had collapsed on her shoulders with the way she was dragging her feet forward while her companions were walking by her side, glancing in amusement at her.
It was only when Nora spotted Ruby that she regained some of her energy and proceeded to animatedly introduce the 15-year-old girl to Jaune Arc and Lie Ren.
While their first impression was not that good since their menacing aura had put Ruby on edge like she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar, they became significantly easier to talk to once they were done reprimanding Nora, allowing Ruby to proudly proclaim to her sister when she got home that she had made friends on her own.
All things considered, Ruby Rose was looking forward to her time at Beacon.
